Memory

Two year ago, SHC had it’s first overnight & overseas event :

2D/1N – SHC Overnight Gathering @ Sijori Resort, Batam.

The idea was originally poached by Terence but relegated to my charge simply because I volunteered to help him with the logistic.  And so, I became the EO of this event.

On the morning of 07.07.07 – about 40 of us SHCians met at HarbourFront for this trip.  It was a very wet morning, raining meow meow & woof woof but it didn’t dampen our spirit despite the fact that some of us met for the very first time.

Two years on, many of these trippers became solid supporters of SHC.  Some even became EOs for SHC events & activities – ad hoc or regular basis.

Looking at the date today, got me all nostalgic.  I not only have had alot of fun but also got to know many fun loving gals during this trip.  I also found a buddy in Dolly & great friendship in Yew Kwong.

I wonder if others, who have gone on this trip, felt the same way,…. experience something special…. or otherwise…..

…… Willing to share?

….and thanks to Yew Kwong and Terence, here are photos for your viewing :

  1. Lily,

It was my second outing with fellow member, the first was at the Botanic Gdn where I met so many unassuming and friendly people. I was going through a lonely patch in life, and here I am able to relax and get to know so many new friend. I am thankful to Pheng Sok who introduced me here! This is where I get to meet Terence and Maria!

The Batam trip was even more fruitful as I get to meet more new friend. I felt so good to be here among simple folks and sharing in the fun. We had enjoyable meals together where I get to know more new friend like Lily, Dolly, Tim, Yew Kwong, Agnes and so many other to name here!

I felt a sense of belonging here and cherish the time spend here. I was always looking for other activities to join but found it lacking, therefore I begin to organise games and events for fellow member!

Thanks Lily for re-igniting the memories!

    Dan

  2. Hi All Who Were There

The memories were fond ones. We hd so much fun dancing through the nite n members kept requesting 4 extension.

Tim ws at the Ferry Terminal early that morning 2 assist Lily.

Remember the 4 guys n 1 beauty dressed in swim wear played in the pool. Cant remember who took those shots. If u hv let us post them here 2.

Remember Norlinda got so upset n angry that she cant understand the guide who spoke in Mandarin. Later that evening she became the most loved person. She ws seen helping 2 serve food 2 the members as the place were short handed.

I wish this trip will be repeated.

  3. Yes, the Batam trip brought back fond memories. It was our overseas trip, we had the whole hotel all to ourselves, I could still remember the shuffling of letters between two connecting rooms, altho only one room was occupied. Still a mystery to this day.

I still remembered some of us taking turns to rub Buddha’s tummy. So much to say. We got to know one another better. I love the trip. It was nostalgic. Thanks Lily for refreshing our memories. A great reflection.

  4. To meet to know
    And then to part,
Is the sad tale of many a human heart.

I remember this quote that was written in a card when we said goodbye to our schooldays.

  5. Silor silor, Lily, wow time passed so fast hor.. yet another July 7 liao.. Long live ever-lasting frenship…

Har, Terence, got rubbing Buddha’s tummy meh, I bo leh, must b busy shopping ard 4 goodies lor.. Dolly

  6. Dear All,
I can imagine the fond memories you all had even tho’ I was not in the SHC circle then. Thanks for sharing and bringing everyone down that memory lane and if possible, we should try and rekindle that, so Lily, how about organizing it for Aug monthly meet to give those people like me, a chance to feel that nostalgic moment? It’s always nice to venture out of S’pore once in awhile – give it some thought. Thanks & Rgds, Lisa

  7. Oh yes…I rubbed the smiling Buddha’s tummy for Happiness, some said for luck & Health, and some even said can strike lottery. hehehe…….

We enjoyed so much at the night Karaoke with June Lim wanting to sing “Jambalaya”, again & again. Terence and his bottles of Whiskie and Molly kept pouring beer & liquor into our glasses, so busy making us drunk.

The Batam trip was the 1st SHC overnight / overseas trip which excite all of us. It was so FUN that we make a lot of noise in our hotel room and very strange, we received a written note from the next connected room….eeeee, don’t want to mention lah.

Looking at the group photos, it seems like everyone had slimmed-down, especially Yew Kwong & Tim. I also learned my 1st MJ lesson from Danz which I kept yawning & yawning. The rest were very hot at playing “Part Kow” (cards) with Tim always being the Banker…… those were my fond memories….. :)

  8. Lily, thanks for the memories and more thanks for justaposing the fotos, making the recollection of the wonderful time we had together exactly 2 years ago, more vivid as if we are living thru it all once again.

In the fotos, I see my arm on the shoulders of Yew Kwong. The shoulders remain as broad ad sturdy today for my hands to rest on.

In another, 5 hunks and a beauty posed to tease. But what went on in the water cannot be told but suffice to say that she never had it so good.

Sitting on the bed, I was exhausting all my tricks at blackjack to no avail until Lily came by, quietly plonked next to me (and thereby composed me), volunteered as my financial controller, collecting and paying and so calm my nerve. Needless to say, my losing streak abated.

Yes, I know this is not what you guys are expecting, it’s on gambling, and surely a man with enough self-esteem and who even corrects people of their own mistakes, shouldn’t gamble. Sigh, needless to say, that is also the reason why I gamble, I myself know the bad habit that I cannot change. But I guess that with enough willpower and determination, I will surely make it and not gamble. My daughter keeps asking me to change, but it is not as simple as it seems. I hereby say this, before each and every one of you here, that I will do my utmost to try and change this bad habit of mine.

The penultimate paragraph was written by my daughter who chanced on my writing this posting, and too wd like to have her say…………..hopefully I can meet the high expectations of my daughter. :)

  9. aiyah…I wrote something..but instead of submitting, I kaypoh kaypoh went to see the beauty and the 4 beasts…and now my submission disappeared…aiyah, will rewrite later.

  10. here’s what i intended to write yesterday…

Oh yes, the nite was real memorable for me..the dancing…first time dancing after almost 2 decades!!.. yes 2 decades!!!…feel so so young again :-)))
And yes, after the dance, which was after midnite, chatted in the room with Nor, Nee and Ann..and must hve really got carried away bec our next door neighbour must have reached the stage of “buay tahan” whn he slipped a note to tell us…”I can hear every word u say but my wife is sick, be considerate and lower your voices!!!”….suddenly we got so silent…:-))) It was so funny….one minute we were so noisy, next minute we all “diam diam” eyes big big…:-))

I like a lot of people in that group and feel very happy whn I meet them in functions after the trip…tho the functions not that many as I am a rather inactive member :-))

  11. Hi Yew Kwong/Lily

I still remember vividly that these photos (4 hunks and a beauty) were snapped on 8/7/07 at about 12.45am(according to my camera) whilst on our way back to the hotel room after our disco/karaoke session. It was rather dark and I heard male voices in the pool but dared not to move too near as initially I thought some hotel guests were illegally having their skinny-dip. But then, I heard Lily’s voice and armed with my camera, I started to capture them in the pool. Being a newbie and unfamiliar with them at that time, I was bold enough to invite all of them out of the pool to show off their physiques and posed for shots. Actually, I wanted to see how flabby they were but to my surprise, they were above average – is a compliment hor!

A few days later, a saga started. Lily accused me of keeping the pictures for my personal viewing because the guys got my email except her. I was very puzzled as why Lily claimed that she did not receive the photos because her name was within the cc list. It was Yew Kwong who later pointed out to me who was William Lee in the email list? Then, I realized that it was due to carelessness that I had clicked on William instead of Willocq Lily from my address book. On other hand, I quickly sent an email to my Uncle William to explain to him in order to thwart him from having the impression that I was having fun despite my dad’s passing not long ago at that time.

Anyway, many thanks to Lily n all who helped her for making the very 1st SHC overseas trip so successful and unforgettable. Still recalling…….…………………

  12. Hi Dan, Yew Kwong, Terence, Dolly, Ah Nee, Tim, June & Veronique – Yes, we really did have a very good time.

    I remembered :
    – Norlinda was full of complaints.
    1) tour guide spoke Mandarin. 2) dinner portion so small. 3) want extra beds but later changed her mind when beds were delivered.

    – Joy very sulky face…. later found out that she was worried about mosquitoes as dengue was at a peak at that time….. heehee, now you’ve H1N1 to worry about.

    – Gwyneth asking for individual receipts for her claim.

    – AnnTo who almost missed the boat…ehmmm… literally.

    – The fun-loving people at the K-o-K cum dancing session.

    – The midnight swim followed by “casino”.

    – The morning after ghost stories at breakfast….haha.

    – The wolve whistles & wows the gals gave to the guys as they walked by in their swimming trunks.

    Yeah Lisa,
We should do it again but not with such short notice lah! Besides, there are enough overseas trip nowadays.

    Dear Charles,
We all have to say our goodbyes sooner or later. Just count the blessings that we have at least met and became friends. True friends never leave. Bad ones…. well, it’s good riddance to bad rubbish lor.

  15. Hi Lily,

How time flies, it’s 2 years since. Nostalgic! Thanks dear, reminding me of my narrow “miss”. Thank God I managed to catch the boat that day; …. that boat which held the fondest memories and the most memorable trip in SHC……

Will this same boat set sail again? What will it hold the next time? Lily, I rather you not touch this boat; use another when the next time arrives.
