  3. Hi Conrad,

Though I have been living around Kovan area for almost 30 yrs, but have not venture further up to Sengkang/Punggol. This is a golden opportunity mustn’t missed. Please register me for this walk, very eager to get familiar around the neighborhood and see how big & deep is the Serangoon “longkang”. Cheers!

    Ah Nee

  4. Dear Ah Nee

I live in Sengkang for the past 12 years and still have yet to explore those routes which Conrad has planned.

Would love to join but unfortunately Jan 09 I have other prior arrangements already.. (sigh..). I hope in the near future, there will be a walk along the same route again.

    Cheers – Pauline (^.^)

  5. Hi Conrad

The last time I visited Serangoon River there were fishing boats unloading fish. Now you have to show me where the river is.

    Please include me.

  6. Hi CT+SL,

Please register Linda Chua as she was unable to login. I will be there, too.

YK, Linda has joined SHC many moons ago. I will send you her email address for you to reset her password.

    Thanks :D

  9. Wow, EO Conrad,
Your walk event veri lah-gu mmenn! The crowd is growing ….
You know, we (near economically unproductive aged) folks may soon be perceived as having a “protestant” walk and putting up an illegally gathering at HG ……. fka “Cheng-San” zone ……
Better apply for permit from CISCO Security first …. hahahaha ::)))

Hey! of course, I m only joking!!!!

  10. Yes!..indeed the walk very laku!..now i also sum yok yok..but when i see the timing…alamak, banyak susah la..
Next round do morning walk boleh?..ooppss!sori..just wanna kacau only :)

  11. I too join Ivan-L to say, well done Conrad, for enthusing so many to this Walk. Even the Piped Piper will come to you.

The walk ends a bit early though but if you people are game to walk longer, further, I know of a place where you’ll experience smthg totally different.

Years ago, many got slit in the throats and buang in Buangkok. That slaughter house is still standing but hidden in the thicket and bushes and I know where it is.

As nite falls and when the moon is full, you’ll hear the murdered cry in chorus and even see some running, headless. You’ll hear tang tang tang tang, the sound of folks furiously beating tins and cans to frighten away the spirits.

The chicken farmers are still afraid………..very afraid.

  12. Hi Conrad and Sally,

We have not met, as I am not in on a weekend. However, I am pleased to say you have set an example of what it takes to be an EO. You think of everything and you plan the head to the toes.

You have also given encouragement to other SHCians who are thinking how and what it takes to run an event or an activity. Well done.

And on this note, I am sure Charles Wee and his pioneer team are just as pleased.

  13. Congrats Conrad & Sally! I would love to join this walk but unfortunately I have a friend from UK who’s only free to meet me on the 9th and at 4 pm too! Hiazz….

I hope to join in the monthly walks as I’m too lazy to do long distance walks by myself.

    Cheers
    Ros

  14. Hi Conrad
would like to join, but can’t confirm until tomorrow morning. can i just show up last minute? (if can, thanks. but dont wait for me if i dont show up at 4.30)

  15. Hi Conrad and Sally
I live very near to the route, much as I like to join in the walk, I am currently not fit enough to walk the complete route yet.
However, I would like to join you people for dinner after your walk because, I missed the fun of of meeting you all for a few months already.
    Thanks.

  16. Hellooooo Bpk Chin #50,
Glad to hear/know that you will be joining us for this Long-Kan walk. But hor ….. although this long-kan is big and filled with blackish-water …. there are no lobsters to be “tiao”, so after walking, where can we have low low cost lobster-shimi?? Kovan heartland mall or have to go further up by Bus Svc #101? …… Many food lobang but hor …. many china girls there …… also.

  17. Hi Conrad
I would be grateful if you can tell me exactly which exit of the Kovan MRT will the walk terminate as there are 3 exits.
One leads to the Heartland Mall, one leads to Kovan Melodies and another one exits at Simon Road
    Thank you.

  18. Hi All,

Afternote: We should congratulate ourselves – by some account, we have covered 5 km and 1000 steps in 2 hours. Tiring but satisfying.

  19. Hi Conrad/Sally,

Appreciation both of your effort arrange for the walk, really feel fresh upon completed the walk & thanks Ah Nee bring few of us for the cheap & delicious dinner.

    Judy

  20. Hi Charles,Ivan Lim,Sockie etc…,

    V. sorry for moving off in a hurry and couldn’t join all of you for the Kovan market food stall talk after the walk. :(

    I will join another time.

  21. Hi Conrad & Sally,

Thank you for organising this walk, An eye opener for me after residing in the North East Zone for almost 30 yrs….see how much have I missed…..cool & serene Punggol Park, the long stretch of “longkang” /river and the cycling & walking track. At least for now, I know the route to cycle / brisk walk around my neighbourhood. Cheers!

I have dinner with some new / not so new members after the walk ended at Kovan. SK Chua; Maureen Lee; Irene Poh; Judy Lim; Angie Ng; Daisy Yeo; Frisna Tan & Sarah, thanks for your companies and nice to know you all. :)

    Ah Nee

  22. Thanks to Conrad and Sally, I get to revisit Serengoon River again. It is totally unrecognizable to me. It is like admiring a young pretty China girl but still appreciate the old wife at home, more.

The walk was better than the Mutton Soup and ‘Or Lwak’ I had for dinner. But the beer afterwards with some nice SHC people was very pleasant. Thanks for the company folks.

  23. Conrad and Sally

Thanks for organising the walk. I enjoyed it thoroughly – admiring nature as well as meeting new friends.

    Kudos to all.

    Regards,
    Gabriella Chua

  24. Hi Conrad and Sally

Thanks for organising the walk around my neighbour. I was born in Hougang had since been living around AMK, Bishan and now back to Hougang again for the last 4 years or so. In all these years, I had not not been exploring the place…. lazy I guessed, so it was great to have the opportunity to explore own ‘backyard’ with fellow SHC memebers, thanks to both of you for this event.

Had a great time chit chatting at Kovan Foodcourt after dinner and Terence should be glad to know that, the men finally outnumbered the gals by 6 to 4 (Charles Wee, Charles Chua, Tian Soo, Sam Soo, Fetzus, Ivan, Gingko, Christina, Alice and yours truly) and then down to 6 to 2 after Christina’s and Alice’s departure. It was then back to 6 to 5 when we met up with Ah Nee, Marilyn and Suzhang for coffee at Tangerine Cafe for drinks till 11+pm If not for the closing time of the MRT line, think we would have stayed and chatted some more.

Fetzus had too many packets of crackers and Charles Chua helped relieved him off 5 but we walloped and ‘relieved’ both of them off a few more by the end of the day….sooo thanks guys for the crackers ya

    Cheers
    Sockie

  25. Hi Sally & Conrad

If not for the both of you, I would not have known this corner of Singapore at all! Thank you for making it possible.

It was a great walk with nice weather and of course nice company.

    Till then
    Daisy
