Direct Selling is one of SHC’s taboos

Direct selling is one of SilverHairsClub’s taboos.

Organising a talk or seminar with the intention to promote or sell a product
or a service to members is considered Direct selling. This taboo was
implemented in Oct 2005, when SHC was started, as a platform for
SilverHairs to meet and make more friends. The idea then was to prevent a
situation whereby members use the Club’s platform to promote and sell
products and services.

While some audience do benefit from the talks, other audience may feel
they have been falsely led into buying a product or service by attending these
talks. As such, the club had made direct selling a taboo.   The same
applies to MLM.  This taboo may sound silly and narrow-minded to some
members.   But sitting in an audience towards the end of the talk when
you know that a product is going to be pushed to you can be discomforting.

Members who fail to observe this taboo may be removed from the club’s
membership or may not be allowed to use the club’s forum.  If in doubt,
please contact admin@silverhairsclub.com.

  1. Terence

I admire your efforts in constantly monitor that the club’s rules are followed. This is especially on the rule of no Direct Selling and MLM. We are already inundated with spam in our computer, handphones and mail box. It is good to belong here where we can expect that each of us wants to get to know each other as friends and not as a target for marketing.

But it is not always clear when we read a post if a person is genuinely sharing his/her knowledge or trying to make money from us. So I suggest that those of you who have attended any function here which you feel have violated club rules, should post the facts so that the rest of us do not fall into the same trap. Sometimes it may be a question of opinion but if the facts are spelt out, the readers can make his/her own judgement and decide who to avoid. It is impossible for Terence to attend all functions and he should not be the only one bearing this burden.

  2. I do support Tian Soo’s remarks. Those who have the intention to promote their DS or MLM should not try to post in the website to mislead members. If he/she has the intentions to “sell”, he/she should get to know the members first then invite them to their products promotion at their own premises so as not to discomfort the rest of the members around. If they have the intention to share knowledges or new ideas of benefits not relating to any of the “sales” should be encouraged to do so for the benefits of all members.
