Monthly Gathering/Cycling cum Pot-Luck @ Changi – Sat, 17 Sep

Hi fellow cyclists – beginners as well as the regulars     emoticon

I went to Changi Beach Park (twice) to recce it’s suitability for a change of cycling venue and found :

  • The park serene and much less crowded than ECP.
  • There is a bicycle rental kiosk next to the Bistro@Changi — $3/hr (good for those who do not wish to cycle 2 hrs)
  • Parking is free after 5pm and the nearest parking is :  Carpark 1 although Carpark 2 is also very near.
  • There is a clean and airy public toilet (with shower cubicles) at the same location.

Perhaps, you would like to take a look at the following links :     emoticon

Buses that go there (stop right outside the kiosk along Nicoll Drive bus stop B10) :

  • # 9  –  from Bedok Interchange
  • #19 –  from Tampines Interchange
  • #89 –  from Hougang Central Interchange

Buses that go to Changi Village Terminal (a short walk to kiosk along waterfront) :

  • # 2 – from New Bridge Road Terminal
  • #29 – from Tampines Interchange
  • #59 – from Bishan Interchange
  • #109 – from Serangoon Interchange

This place is ideal for our Monthly Cycling cum Pot-luck Picnic.  Clean and scenic, with amenities.

  • Meet at :  the pavilion next to bicycle kiosk.
  • Time :  4 – 4.30 pm
  • Date :  17 Sept 2011 ( YES, THIS SATURDAY ! )

  1. Hi,

Im new and alone and would like to join in not cycling but how to do i start to mix with u guys and who should i look for and where is the pavilion next to bicycle kiosk.

    Thanks
    dtan

  2. Hi Diana Tan

Welcome to SHC. You don’t have to cycle if you do not feel up to it. It is perfectly alright just to join us for the pot-luck picnic. For newbies, makan session is the best time to get to know others as we are all in close proximity so jokes and conversation can be shared easily.

There are several pavilions in Changi Beach Park. The biggest one (just a rectangular structure with open sides) is next to the one and only bicycle rental kiosk (right next to the cafe ‘Bistro@Changi’). For location map of Changi Beach Park, you can use google map and type in Changi Beach Park. Here’s the link. http://maps.google.com.sg/maps

If Sam Huat is coming, he will bring the “Silver Hairs Club” banner. If not, just look out for a noisy bunch of ‘not so young’. If you arrive after 4.30pm the rest would have cycled off but I will be around to jaga the food and wait for late arrivals.

I will provide you my mobile contact via email. Looking forward to meeting you this Sat.

    Regards
    Lily

  3. Ooo …… Tian Soo

Nice of you to join us. French loaf and wine will be great. Don’t know if Daisy is going to bring curry, if she does, her curry is lagi sedap. I’ll gladly change my dish if she is coming with her curry.

John Howe is going to get his Indonesian maid to cook something special, Charles is bringing a special cake, Carly with her dry mee siam (haha Lina, you’ve got competition) …… I am salivating already.

For those who are unable to bring anything, there are plenty of food stalls around there and a bistro right where we will be. So, no worries. We can always go for dinner afterwards, if we are still hungry.

  4. Morning Audrey

Mmm …… honey glazed chicken wings, yummy!
Joy smsed me to tell me that it is she and not Joyce.

Joyce is the seasoned cyclist that came to support us last month.
Joy is …. eh…. not sure if she can cycle. Haha.

See u gals this Sat! :)

  5. Hi Lily @ #4,

I am not bring any ‘special cake’. Just an ordinary cake from an ordinary Joe. Dunno what it will be, have to see what is on offer on that day!!!

Don’t you think you have enough food? No need to stress the other cyclists from doing extra duty. They may only be interested in cycling. Anyway, like you say, there is a bistro/cafe which sells food. If the potluck is only tasting portions, we can adjourn to a light dinner in the cafe. Better to be spontaneous than regulated. Otherwise we might be eating till the morning.

  6. Andrew Thio and Rene Leong

I have cleared the cobweb from my new bicycle and pump air into the tyres. Come and cycle with me this Saturday. Pretend we are going to Pengarang with Yew Kwong.

  7. Hi Suzhang
Haha…. u MIA from cycling for so long, it takes food to bring you back eh?

    Hi Ah Nee
Douglas is out of town I think. He was the one who told me to post this cos he is busy.

    Hi All
Come for cycling or for food or for both. There is no obligation as mentioned in my comment #2 and #4. Douglas, Diana, Andrew and Mega did not mention bringing any food and that’s fine.

    Haha Tian Soo
You are a funny guy. Your comment made be giggle unlike someone whose comment made my blood boil. Will trash him come Fri and even though you guys will be there, don’t try to protect him ok?

  8. Hi Lily,I am coming but no cycle.

Need to reseve my energy for next day cycling to “Orang Asli Village in Johore”

Will bring what ever I can get hold of.. ^_^

    ET

  9. Hi Eileen

No problem if you don’t wish to cycle this time round. Wah, orang asli…. over here, we have the orang manja in our midst. Heehee. Cya Sat.

  11. Hi Lily

Appreciate your effort in organizing. Ah Nee & Douglas too, thank you!
    I’m coming this Sat.
Will be bringing longan w/ almond jelly.

Hi Lydia Soh, Wendy, Patrick & Veronica, if you’re reading this, hope you all come along too.

    See you!

  12. Hi Lily
:-)I will be at Changi Beach on Sat with a 6-pk icy-cold beer.

:-)Can u postpone the trashing of orang manja from Fri to Sat? I will be early so as not to miss out on the action. Must I bring AED/O2 concentrator? just in case…? :-D

  13. Hi Gingko, Rene, Kum Hong, Peggy & Yatsing
    Welcome. Noted your contribution. Cya.

    Yatsing
No lah, not nice to trash orang manja in public lah? Infront of buddies, they will speak up for him and turn the trashing into a joke mah.

  14. Hi Lily
I’ll try to make it but wont stay for the potluck. I have a long ride early Sun AM and need to get enuf shuteye. :)

    TS @ 17
That’s fast. When I bumped into you, yr bike was still in storage!

  15. Hi Andrew Thio,

Now we have you to lead us for the cycling trip! thanks for coming.

Dear all, how to have a great feast without plastic cups, plates, spoons & forks, chopsticks and paper towel etc??? I will bring all these, so the rest no need to bring hor.

I think Ah Huat now “tak boleh tahan”….got so much to eat, what are you waiting for, “ka meh lai lah”, TS want to “yum seng” with you leh. :)

    Ah Nee

  16. Wow, Lily, Douglas, ANee, responses good hor, can I take this outing as monthly gathering since we hv potluck picnic lor? Pls say yes hor, as if not, Sept bo monthly gathering leh? Cheers.. Dolly

  17. Hi Andrew Thio
No worries. You can take your leave whenever you need to. No hard and fast rule. Just come and enjoy the good company.

    Aiyo Ah Nee
Dolly said Sam Huat needs to be in JB this weekend. So, cannot join us lah. Dolly, tio bo hah?

    Dolly buddy
Douglas, Ah Nee and I have no objection to combine this event with the monthly gathering if you wish. In fact, it was our original intention but not sure how our chief Terence feel about it, so did not propose to you. Now that you asked, I will include you as one of the EOs and change the title of the event.

    Cheers

  18. Hi Lily n Ah Nee

Good, good, your post has attracted a lot of response.
To those who are new, do come for this gathering, its not necessary for oneself to bring something for the potluck.

Hi Daisy – can we taste your chicken korma again :)

I am still outstation and should be back 17Sep morning. Will bring some goodies from Penang.

    Cheers

  19. Hi Lily #30,

Well done in your efforts to revitalise the cycling activity. It takes some creativity and perserverence in making each and every event successful. Thi sone is of course a novel idea.

As to it coinciding with the SHC monthly gathering, I leave the decision to the Club manager. I see it going ahead, so all the best.

    Terence Seah

  20. Hi Lily

Haven’t been to any monthly meeting for eons and cycling too (though I am still a L-plate cyclist)……if I am still not brain dead by the end of my workshop I will try to fin my way there from Suntec City. No promises but will try to grab something on the way there.

    Sockie

Sorry to borrow this post for a side comment hor….. Yesterday, Terence was just saying I am gong-gong when it comes to IT (becuase I reformatted my PC about 4-5 times before) and when I got home in the evening the PC went dead on me AGAIN. This time round I called in the IT guru and guess what he said…… the only way is to re-format the HDD AAARRGGGHH …… lucky I burned mid-night oil to get the photos for ‘One night in Chinatown’ out on time but the Sep walk and Aug meeting photos will have to wait a little bit longer :0( Looks like I am going to be an ‘expert’ in reformatting of HHD hahahahaha

  21. @Lily: haha.. Yes, what is there to look forward in life besides food.. Rene is right! Sek tuck hai fook !! I dun want to be lying there one day thinking of my favourite food & can’t eat… So eat & be merry while you can..

@Rene: am glad you can come & join us.. Dou c kin ! Lol..

@Ah Nee : I left the bag of cups in the office. I will hv to go & get new ones!

  22. Audrey
    Lilian included liao, thanks.

    Richard – Welcome :)

    Sockie
Don’t worry about bring anything lah. Coming from a workshop, just come with 2 bunches of bananas like AndrewY lor …. (leon sor jiew in Canto) haha.

Suzhang – fully agree with you and Rene.

BTW, you all might want to bring something to sit on hor. there are no benches in this pavilion. Just hard concrete floor.

See you folks tomorrow. Rain or shine, we will be there.

  23. Guess I’ll have to make an effort if I want to get out of the gloom.

I’ll be coming Lily, Ah Nee and Suzhang. My pots are dry though and they’re on the shelves. Now’s my turn to partake of Lily’s and Caroline’s food. Shall think of something to bring but for now,my mind’s struggling to get out of sleep mode.

    Till tomorrow. C ya!

    Daisy

PS: Douglas, you not only tasted the korma the last time but you actually eat them!

    Daisy

  24. I will bring Toa Payoh famous glutinous rice kueh / “koo chye” kueh or cabbage kueh instead. Old Change Kee curry puff won’t be nice to eat if it’s cold.

During one of my clearing of the storeroom, my son wanted to throw away the army plastic floor mat, luckily I keep it and now I can use it for the picnic. We are ready for another party……cya!

    Ah Nee

  25. Calling, calling Wendy, Lydia, Veronica & Patrick, er.. did I miss anyone of the newcomers during the last cycling event? Do come and join us today.

I cycled to Changi Village two weekends ago and the area is really scenic. You’ll enjoy it and it’s worth coming.

No bring food, don’t feel like cycling never mind. You can choose to walk the area, just eat, like I intend to and more importantly, for the camaraderie.

Come, come, see u later. The dark clouds have lifted!

Ooops… bad English in last comment, “ate” it should be instead of “eat”.

  26. Yay, so many old friends coming for the fun. So glad. :D

Thanks Ah Nee – for remembering to bring disposables. I completely forgotten to get them.

Thanks Lilian for registering Ann Lim. She smsed me but told her she need to register as this also a Monthly Gathering. Don’t want to get into trouble with our CM tio bo?

Dolly, I will print out the name list for registration purpose.

  27. To all the dearest EQ of the events for the day 10/9 .. thank you very much for organising today event.. its was wonder, this event would not be successful without all of you… and you folks out there who came from all direction jus to join in today event.. thank you.. for coming ..

    cheers

  28. Audrey

You wrote your comment #46 all in one sentence. Sounds like you are drunk!!! There were still some wine left, but no cock….already broken. So we have to throw them away.

  29. Oh dear Tian Soo, when I left there were only the 2 guys, Hou Chong and yourself still there. Whose cock was it that had got broken? And you threw it away too? I know there was some ice left and you could have kept them in the ice to have them reattached!

Sounds like you are drunk too? Cork! he he he he he he……

  30. Glad to know you have arrived home safely though.

After all the story making on cock, sleep well now. Don’t wet yourself otherwise a lot of explaining to do.

  31. Ooops..TS i m not drunk..otherwiose i wld not hv reach hm safe n sound…sorie for the typo error >>EO nt EQ.. my apologies..
TS looking forward to c u ya.. nice chap

  32. Hi
I’ve just added the link for the photos taken by Douglas. (After the Registration List.)

    Heehee…. GT
Some of them were a little mabok, not necessary from wine or beer, but don’t know from what lah. Because I noticed their minds were super slow that afternoon. For eg. when we were playing a game where one has to shout out a word and the next person was to continue with another word that begins with the last letter of the previous word and so on. Very often we get to hear : “Eh….. ape ends with what hah?” or “England ends with g right?” You get my drift? We really laugh alot that day.

It seems that most participants are in favour of moving our cycling venue to this CBP instead of staying at ECP. So, we’ll see how it goes …….

  33. Hey Lily

This game sounds like fun! Since it wasn’t purely from intoxication, guess it was from sheer enjoyment of great company that made one failed to connect the dots.

    Then again, could be dyslexia……….keekeekee.

Good to know that after just one ‘try’, participants like this new venue.

    Great job!

  34. Daisy#48, you naughty,naughty..

Lily, yes what a nice place you have chosen, with shelter and concrete flooring.

I did not read the post properly and almost ended up at ECP, until Douglas sounded out to me. Thanks Doug for acompanying me home.

Well I have a wonderful ride to the Orang Asli Village the next day,but did not see any of them, all went hiding when they see a herd of cyclist coming.
