Do you have an electronic sewing machine? and can provide a sewing service?

Hi fellow members,

I would like to find someone among our club membership, who has an electronic sewing machine.  It should have the capability of storing the SilverHairsClub logo and the words "SilverHairsClub" in its memory.

In the early past, we had explored a T-shirt for members, but we have not been successful because we were unable to confirm the numbers.  At the same time, there are so many varied brand names and designs.  We gave up the idea long ago.  The idea surfaced again, so let’s give it another go.

However, we do have the SHC logo and an established brand name "SilverHairsClub".

What I am looking for is a member who would offer this sewing services, laying the logo or the name "SilverHairsClub" on a T-shirt or blouse or skirt, provided by the SHC member.  This can be an old or new shirt or blouse, any colour, any design or size.

I am hoping this person with the sewing service can provide this service for a fee of $4.  However, members will pay $3 for each logo imprinted.  No pick up service.  I have not thought further of other details.

Meantime, if you can provide this service, please contact me at terences@SilversHairsClub.com.

  1. Hi Terence Seah,

You may contact Karen Thio. She is v. good in this kind of workmanship and a v. creative women too. :)

My suggestion only . I not trying to criticise or poke fun of the logo but I to offer my constructive criticism.

I noticed on top of our silver hairs club logo , a few strands of hairs only.
So pathetic ! Is it depicting us as senior ah peks and ah sohs ? Ha! ha!

I am sure among our newer and wider pool of SHC members , they are some v. creative people who may come out with new ideas.

    My 8 cts. worth.

  2. Hi Steven,

With regards to the logo, I am always all ears. Although I must say we don’t have a strong anti-current logo view from members. Let’s hear from others too.

  4. Hi SusanT #4,

I guess that as long as it can store the logo format, and can sew the same logo, repeatedly, it should be ok.

    Tell me what you have.

  7. Hi Tian Soo,

Glad you like our current logo.

For the benefit of members, the name “SilverHairsClub” was conceived as early as early 2005. We started by trying to locate a word to reflect the group seniors over 45. So, we used SilverHairs. Then, we thought a club is the best way to reflect the place of gathering, even though we had no physical club.

Then, we decided on the use of the word club, with the idea of using different venues in Singapore. Finally, we decided on SilverHairsClub.

After months of marketing, we relised that we had spelled Hairs wrongly, because in English, the plural is still Hair, not Hairs. But the marketing and advertising costs have already sunked in, and it would cost too much to change the name. So, we stood by this name since.

How was the logo designed? Didn’t know how to use a draw program. But I had a mouse. So, the design was done totally using Paint and a mouse. This explains the cranky shape of each hair.

To make the hairs grey, I painted the lines grey. Finally, the logo and name take shape and form. Why 6 hairs? Don’t know. I remembered it was the limitation of the mouse, so cannot have fine design.

Folks, this is the background to how SilverHairsClub and the logo came about since 2005.

  8. Hi All,
Just to add a bit on this.
If ever sewing the SHC Logo is possible on shirts etc.
Please add the website/URL too with the Logo!!
We need to do something about publicity and making it easier for “others/non-members” to locate/find us ma!!
We need MORE new ACTIVE blood for the club…if not, it will die a natural death…
p/s: OLD BLOOD CELLS are dying at a faster rate than you know it hor!!

  9. An excellent idea Ivan. I like the idea too.

So far, we have not been able to find someone who can do this task for us at an acceptable rate. Anybody likes to do this service as indicated in the main Post?

    Terence Seah

  10. Boss,

What quantity of these logo do you expect the club can garner from the active members? 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 100, 200, 500?

Without a quantity, very difficult to even talk to an entity especialising in this……

The Golden Mile Army Surplus Market is a place you can start looking for such a specialist at reasonable rates!

You don’t even need to have/bring the clothings from the members for the works.

They make these in a “cloth badge format” and you can then sew it onto any shirts / Tees / skirts / shorts / underwears / panties / bras / socks etc.

  11. Hi Ivan #13,

Your suggestion is something I will definitely pick up. Makes sense, convenient and probably cost effective too. thank you.

    Terence Seah

  12. Hi Everybody,

We had a contact for someone to provide us a service to make the SilverHairsClub cloth badge. It costs $6 each. If you have another contact that can provide us a lower cost, please do let us know. Thank you.

  13. Hi Ivan #16,

Thank you for helping out. I dont have a proper artwork, but it will be like the logo we have at the top left of our Club.

It will have the hairs and the words “SilverHairsClub” or “SilverHairsClub.com”.

Not particular over the size of the batch or patch, as long as the words are clear. In fact, I favour any colour, mixed colours, different sizes. An assortment is also ok, but may not be practical. SHC is made up of different groups of people; so variety is good.

  14. Ivan Lim has done an excellent job with designing and making a special T-shirt for the 128 km RIR cycling event.

We had been looking at the possibility of having a T-shirt for the general membership. One interesting trend is the move towards Dry & fit materials, instead of 100% cotton. From feedback and response, if we can get a 100 shirt order, the price per T-shirt would be around $15, including an embroidery. If we get less orders, the T-shirt with embroidery can reach $20. If we over order, then we will be stuck with the stocks. We have not made a decision yet.

There is also the difficulty of deciding on the size. And how to deliver the T-shirts to the individual.

After considering the various issues, I shall put this idea on hold.

  15. Terence, you are a regular traveller to BKK, why don’t you get it done over there? I know for sure that it will be very much cheaper.
