  30. Dear Dolly,

There is constant mention that the D & D is “strictly restricted to registered members only”. Can non-members come too? How do you verify who is or isn’t a registered member? I see non-member on the list. If non-members are accepted than more people will come.

  31. Dear Lily,
This requirement is set by Terence – our founder leh…

All those appeared in the D&D list are definitely members as told by Terence and I am surprised that you find some non members on the list. Pls let me know who are those and write to me separately to my email address dlgummy@hotmail.com and I will verify this again. Thank you.

As our main intention is to create a platform for all SHC members to mingle around so as get to know each other coupled with the fact that we have many times, problem to get a venue big enough to cater for so many members at one go. Hence, we would still prefer to open this to SHC members only otherwise, it would defeat the purpose of this event.

Non members (must be 45yrs and abv) who wish to attend, can do so by register as members of SHC first – This is a must.

Pls feel free to give me your thought if you feel otherwise… Thanks…

    Dolly

  32. Hi Lily,

all participants must be SHC members. Usually, they can register on this website. Or they send an email to me, which is checked against our database.

    Terence Seah

  33. Hi Dolly Lim & Terence Seah,

I am lucky just 2 days before closing, please include me for the coming D&D. Will pay up via check to the said address given.

    Best Regards & Have a Nice day :)) :)) :))

  34. My friend ah loong son has served time and is coming out of changi on 23 mar 07. He asked for 5 tables to wash away the smell with his brudders. How? Of cos no way bcos they aint SHCians.

Difficult for them to register as members? 50 clicks on the computer, esier than doing the italian job. So how? No small quandary but hehe, it’s Terence’s problem..

Seriously, if one doesnt want to be left out of an enjoyment, it’s not too much an asking for that little effort fr him to join SHC & be part of the “family”. Not least, he gets to learn how to do the on-line chat with Yew Kwong, fishing lines & cups provided for free.

    Dolly & Committees

  36. Is there another way to pay instead of by cheque as we don’t have cheque facility. Can payment by made by ATM to someone’s account?

  37. Terence
I will bring a coffee maker & 1 big sweep. If the big sweep wins a prize, the profit will be on a sharing basis of 50%. Just see who is the lucky person.

  38. If only 1 ticket and it hits a prize then that winner is really very lucky so why deprive him/her of 100% luck by chewing 50% off him/her leh?

Btw, the draw date for that ticket shd be on 28 march 2007 or later otherwise bo pakai hor.

  39. If 50% is owned by the contributor, then it makes Tim the biggest winner for he is contributing 10 tickets hor.

I believe contribution of items is at own’s will and solely and truly unconditional. Otherwise we need to set it right by bundling it with a legal contract for the winner to sign in event the winning comes true hor.

  40. Aiyah, once ah liu pek bequeaths, he lets go everythg lah, too troublesome to tie a surveilance camera here & there & start monitoring with satellites. However if the winner of the lucky sweep does win a prize, nice of him/her to sponsor a tree-climbing contest, ah liu pek’s fav past-time.

  41. Aiyo, Yew Kwong,
You are making the prizes’ coordinator vry vry headache le… Actually was thinking that lucky winner will get coffee maker as well as half big sweep ticket liao so now how har?? So serious meh.. must legised it har… wahpiangz…

Linda, I don’t mind get half big sweep ticket if really tio 1st time lor.. after all, cos of you, I got the winning ticket lor… hehehehe

  42. No headaches lah. I also want to contribute myself to make your coffee (sounds “coffee maker”) for members on that night. Members must bring own water n coffee (2 or 3-in-one).

I also want to top Tim’s 10 tickets wif another 10. Lucky recipients must sponsor tree-climbing contests if they strike the top 3 prizes.

Tim, its time you get yourself tune-in leh.

  43. Yew Kwong, are we not too early for the firce 7th moon bidding…….me 10 tickets, you wanna match must at least put up 11 ticks……….nice if you win the top prize then climb the trees in skirts………….Benson, camera ready, tak?

  44. As you wish, I change the number to 11 tickets lor.

Me would like to take you on tree climbing not just me climbing alone. Otherwise no fun and excitement.

So Benson, we want a good shot from the foot of the tree hor.

S$25 is really very affordable for a D&D but with prizes and more, might be too hard a bargain to strike so perhaps for those who wish, donations will go some distance to help make it a lot more interesting.

We should have old songs. If you are a hot spot, with old and evergreens, raise your hands. We need you during the evening.

I must thank Clara for the “forming circle n holding hands 2gether” break. It brought me back to the days when we were young n innocent. Perhaps we should include kampong games in the next round.

Anyway I enjoyed it although I was really more worried for our safety that coconuts may land on our heads.

Include kampong games in the next round? Ok, you & I will do a horse-fight with Patrick-Terence…..no prize guessing that Patrick & I will be the warriors.

At the rate prizes are coming in – of cos it’s happy news – each of us might get to take home 2 prizes. And since I love to bounce, will volunteer to be a bouncer so everyone shd hv no worry that their prizes will be in safe hands….hehe, maybe so safe that you’ll hv to file a proof of ownership to get them back, subject to contesting interests, injunction & whatnot.

The Civil Service Club at Bukit Batok is spanking new, having been opened only last year. It is 10 minutes walk from the Bukit Batok MRT station.

I volunteer to be on the Lucky Draw Committee. I will write the names of the people attending and put them in a goldfish bowl (anyone volunteers to be the auditor?) Last name drawn will win the goldfish bowl (or biscuit tin if I can’t find the golfish bowl). Sorry no water, no gold and no fish. I can do other stuff related to the lucky draw as well – like labeling the prizes, handing out the prizes, etc.

Haha, perhaps at our age, it’s more apt to wear that sash declaring us “Auntie Solverhair” or “Uncle Silverhair”; more befitting if it says “Ah Por Silverhair” or “Ah Kong Silverhair”. But I wont contest however seductive the tile may be, forseeing that I’ll prop up the cellar, what with Patrick atop me grinning like having won toto?

Grow old we all must and grow old graciously, we shall all try. It’s easier to find a suitable aphrodisiac than the evasive potion that stops ageing which, since time immemorial, emperors & their concubines failed to find.

Gosh, this is really tough. But, the job is still far from finish. As usual, with all events, we find an Event Organiser (team leader) to take us through to the details. Well, finally, we manage to convince Dolly Lim to take over, and lead the details.

For those who are new to the culture of the SilverHairsClub, this is usually what we do. We start the event, but we have not skills to finish it. So, we hand over to someone whom we think has the experience to work the details. Thanks Dolly, she just agreed today.

A meeting will be called soon. I know everybody is excited. At the same time, I must thank Molly Chua who is a member of Serangoon Gardens Country Club. The ballroom is a nice place, and you will love it. Thank you Molly.

On this note, I wish to acknowledge the vast network and experience of SilverHairsClub members. Ask, and there may be someone within the club to help you. Thanks Molly.

So Dolly, I will find the first meeting date, and the rest, I leave you and the committee will enjoy ie planning the details.

And, thanks to Christie Chee for recommending the Penthouse. It was beautiful. The skyline was superb. But, we thought another occasion. There are just so so many beautiful places in Singapore. Thanks Christie.

I’m gonna dance all night I’m gonna dance all night And still I’ll beg for more! I’m gonna spread my wings And do a thousand things I’ve never done before ….dadadada…dadadada..

Dear SHC members, Sing the above lines to the tune of “I could have danced all night” from the movie “My Fair Lady” and you would have got some idea of the excitement I feel about our very first D’n D. So, you guys and gals out there if you’ve not put your name down for it, do it now before it’s too late. Jokes aside, Terence, I notice you’ve included me in the committee. I’m glad you did ’cause I was just thinking of volunteering for it. Talk about “Great Minds Think Alike”! Now to quote Clara Chay, I want to sponsor 5 prizes with “a willing heart and a smile”. I would like to donate my services as prizes. No, no, don’t roll up your eyes in horror at my audacity. It’s not what you think! I’m merely offering 5 vouchers which will entitle the winners to 5 free line-dancing lessons, terms and conditions attached. The terms and conditions refer to the time and place where the lessons will be held. I know these vouchers are not in the same league as whiskeys or sweepstake tickets which can send you to seventh heaven or turn you into instant millionaires but they involve a lot of time and effort on my part, okay! So, please don’t look my gift horse in the mouth, okay!

I’ve got to log off now, otherwise no time to practise singing the song about the princess who must take poison.

Yes, thanks to Dolly for agreeing to lead the committee, Molly for facilitating the comfort of a ballroom to us, and Christie for putting in a penthouse as another exciting option. If I am needed anytime earlier to pounce b4 I bounce, pls call me @ 96695702 or email tnotswit@hotmail.com

S’goon Gdns CC brings is nostalgic to me. Known as SG Sports Club then, it was somewhat laid-back. We played soccer with the ANZUK forces. Game was only a name; spoiling for a fight was our aim. So with crunching tackles, fights must surely ensue.

We also had the hippies slouching in a corner, lighting up marijuana & blowing at convent schoolgals. It was up to the gals to pick the atheletic us or the dysfunctionals for wkend parties.

How time flies….no soccer field, no hippies but a club that allows us to hip hop, come 24 March.

    Hi Terence,

It is my pleasure to do something for Silverhairsclub. Next time I will buy you beer. Take note that visitor parking lots are limited but one can park along the private housing estate opposite the club. Do not obstruct their gates which is very important as they will call the traffic police to come down and summon the cars.

Let me know when the meeting will be set and we can all discuss the dinner menu as well as other arrangements.

See all of you soon. Hip hip hooray.

    Hi Terence,

I would like to contribute one set of Home Microbrewery System (deluxe) as a Prize to D&D at SGCC on March 24, 2007. I would love to attend, but I am not sure of my schedule in 2H March 2007 as I still freelance & travel overseas. So one will need to pick up the prize, if I am not around here.

Parking lots are very limited for visitors in SGCC, however one can park along Reglan grove and other side lanes near SG Post Office with usual precautions.

Very true. Every wkend, almost the entire spore descends on s’goon gdns………no bar-top dancing, no progress package given out so just dunno what the lure is? It’s easier to find a centipede – livid & kicking – in one’s bowl of mutton soup at chomp chomp than to find a parking lot there.

Well, it being a D&D, I suppose the ladies will invariably dress up & like to come in their gowns, v-backs, t-backs………..you cant run after a bus like that so no choice but to come in cars.

In comparison, we guys will breeze in. Even if we were to see the king, it’ll still be a shirt, pants & shoes.

So how? Maybe we can all agree to dress down for the nite, coming in our most comfortable attire….t-shirts & denim jeans? Like that, we can enjoy more, hv no inhinitions, can all jump up & down, dance high & low.

    Think abt it…………………..

Hee, Yew Kwong, I throw you a challenge………if you come v-back, t-back, bare-back or carry a hand bag, i’ll do the same. Terence, dont laugh………you dont need to bear so long as you come dancing with the zoo’s sun bear.

Btw, how the kelong did YK know that “…..the ladies will be carting home all the prizes……….”? Rigged? Haha, if that’s the case & YK is an accessory to that, I’ll make sure I put him in a handbag and take him to a sifu to learn the finer art of building kelongs.

If inconvenient ladies dont hv to be in gowns, difficult to move around, elegant pant suit, over the knee dresses, just dress nice not so casual as in just tshirt n jeans(for ladies) guys nice t-shirt n jeans will do (right? organiser) Its just that if its a formal occasion ladies like to take the chance to dress up.

Just a suggestion, for those who are donating prizes, can you wrap it,put a sticker to state what is it.Then bring to the function, the organiser can just take it and put it down as prizes for lucky draw. This saves their trouble of having to collect so many, wrap and bring there.

We have to think of hw to collect the $25 for the D&D too.Have to collect earlier in case places, food booked and no show then who is going to pay for it.Hope we make it that we dont entertain last min gate crasher,as food might not be enough.we will book for the number of people who confirmed n paid

    Tim Liu Says:
    January 23rd, 2007 at 3:42 pm
Seriously, pls dont take me too seriously on my suggestion to wear t-shirts, jeans & flip flops. It is thru the kind gestue of a member who is also a SGCC member that we are offered the ballroom at the club so any flippant show that nite wont dont her fairness or justice.

Yes, we shd try to make payment earlier, in time for some amt to be put up as a deposit to SGCC. Obviously gate-crashers will, at best, be frowned at.

    Dolly Says:
    January 23rd, 2007 at 4:47 pm
Yew Kwong – judging for those response signed up, high chances, most prizes will be taken up by at least 80% ladies so that you are right to say that these bags really come handy for them. hahahaha. But worry not as I am sure that they are still prizes for you guys lor…

Tim, I fully agreed with Christie for ladies to dress up for D&D, after all this is the first Silverhairs D&D. I am sure we ladies are definitely prefered to dress up despite of some inconviences pertaining to transportation la… they can always taxi-pools which I understand maxicab take abt 10paxs at $35 to meet at 1 designated pick up point, I will try to get more info on this and will update later.

Christie, as for the prizes and collection of $25, I would suggest that we leave them for the time being till all committee members meet up for the 1st meeting to discuss various options and designated duties of individual members. How abt that??

    Tim Liu Says:

A good idea to cab-pool in a 10-pax taxi. I’ll expand it further. Book a cab driven by a 45+. Pay for his ticket at the D&D. Top it up with a lucky draw handbag for him to win and that joker will drive all 10 home for free. Costs for each – $25 divided by 10 = $2.50, cheaper & safer than chasing buses in long skirts & high heels.

Smart & casual? Sure, we guys are casual all the time which also makes us smarter all the time. (Again, seriously, do pls dress in a manner comfortable but also befitting the ocassion and decorum).

Hahaha, YK, I where got huge biceps? But I do keep a set of forceps with the right size to pull out anyone who wants to crash the gate for a free date even if his nagging mother wants him to quickly find a mate.

Pls register now to avoid the last minute close fight between unregistered n registered members for eligibility to D&D when the quota of 100 is reached.

    Hi Dolly n Committee Members

Since planning and collection of fees for the event is already in progress, should the registration closes on 15 Feb 07 (even if the number of 100 is not reached) or when the number of 100 pax is reached (may continue after 15 Feb 07)?

If this point is clear, preparation work will go smoothly without disruption. I believe there are a lot of work to be done by the Commitee members.

Next, I have a suggestion. Members who are contributing items for the event should categorise them as “consumables or prizes”. This will greatly ease the work of those in-charge.

    Dolly Says:

Hi Yew Kwong, Come leh… I cheo you in to be committee members la… aimai….

I guessed Terence must be buzy to update the guest list. As of Feb 7, we have 87 members signed.

I have discussed with Terence that we will try to stop at the 100paxs mark however, if members sign aft this mark, we will put them in KIV list first. Like I said, registered is not considered as confirmed until payment is rec’d. Nvrtheless, we will definitely tackle this after CNY when committees next meet. Now, abit bo-sim cos CNY is ard the corner lor..

Yeap, we are thinking of how to handle these sponsored gifts from members and how to categorise them accordingly. Actually it would be even better if sponsors can email me at dlgummy@hotmail.com (if they don’t mind) directly pertaining to this and their values so that we can do what deem fit.. what say you?? Pls comments if any…

You are definitely vry right, we need every help one way or another to ease some of the work load lor…

Thanks for the valuable input. Much appreciated….. Dolly

  46. Buay luan la. I cfm 11 tickets. Therefore 10 + 1 + 11 = 22 lor.

I appreciate recipients who win the top 3 prizes remember to sponsor the tree-climbing contests.

    :) :) :)

  47. On, Yew Kwong, re the tree-climbing. In fact, I hv borrowed tarzan’s loin cloth (so if you do see him now, he’s truly orr ee orr tarzan bo cheng kor)> You can try talking to jane for her’s (was told it’s a sorella).

Perhaps, it’s apt to explain the many chances one stands to win with one sweep ticket.

Each ticket has 4 portions, 3 of which will have to be scratched to see the numbers. If the numbers match the respective wednesdays 4-D draws, you win $60. To win any of the big sweep draw prizes on 28/3/07, all the 7 numbers will have to match (if the last 4 numbers match the last 4 digits of the top 23 prizes, you still win $60). Phew, complicated? Not at all, if you win.

  48. Wah!

This D&D is getting so complicating lah!

First, Tarzan coming in his loincloth but bouncer Liu is coming in his gorilla suit.

Then talk about tree-climbing… which is what my good friend does as a hobby and can demonstrate to interested SHCs… but that’s another story. But are you insured?

Aiyah! Then got this scratch & win draw with so many chances to win provided you can understand the rules. I better go play the “rolling” numbers at the Toto stall opposite the Serangoon Gardens Club whilst you guys draw lots to draw your sweep tickets!

  49. Aiyio, with 1 big sweep ticket can stir so much “fun & excitement”. Can we have more positive thinking on sharing the prize with the winner if the ticket strike? I would like to hear more like what Dolly had said. Don’t you think that the recipient shares the luck with the contributor & not taking all by herself or himself?

  50. Talking abt “scratch n win”, tat reminds me of crabs. Hvnt eaten them 4 a long time, perhaps more than a yr ago.

Mayb one round of it will help boost the chances of striking the big prizes at Toto, Big Sweep n 4Ds.

  51. Alamak, lau siong, so cheem and confusing.
    Ah Lian no understand.
One day, Ah Li papa, then pouncer. Now got golilla in solela and tarzane in loin cloth.
BTW, chlistmas over, who bringing the tlee for the tarzane.
Looks like the guys all out to get the lottely ticket.
Eating crabs make you more crabby. Yu sheng is over otherwise, you can eat it everyday until the D day.

  52. Haha, Kenneth, you ok? Tarzan no coming lah; only his loincloth is. ah liu is coming but neither with a gorilla nor its suit but tarzean’s loincloth.

Insured for tree-climbing only if you know you’re going to fall. And if you know you’ll fall, why climb? So why insured if you’re not going to fall?

Do me a favour, can? Show the winner how to scratch & if you’re a natural like me who can do the sumokong scratch, I’ll join you on stage to do an imprompto scratch danz and get everyone to bring home this scratch habit….

Linda, dont worry, we all know where you’re coming from. It’s fair to express your thots, usually there’s no right or wrong. We all try to build the mood up to a crescendo for the D&D so all kinds of nonsense we say esp fr this ah liu pek. (Btw, most of us came fr KK hospital which was abt the only maternity hospital then).

Eating crabs boost chances? Alright, learn smthg new 2day. What abt eating bananas for guys & water melons for the gals? Yew Kwong, pls wait, dont rush to climb the tree for the bananas…..they’re still unripe hor.

Thanks, Veron, you gave us a tongue twister…..it helps to slow this ah liu pek from further mental deterioration……….

  53. Ah liu pek.
Me from kwong wai sui, the hosp.only for cantonese then.
So, no tarzane and gollila appearing.
Sumukong is just as good. This is the year of boar and not monyet.
How about the pig snort & grunt on stage
in addition to the sumukong scratch.

  54. Veron, you from kwong wai sui meh? Kwong wai siu lah……..hehe, ng hoe lun kam kong hor, mata hui jook ke leh.

Great idea to have the pig snorting & grunting on stage as Kenneth & ah liu pek scratch off armpit hairs, silverhairs……….all hairs.

  55. So solly!!

I’ll not be at the D&D to watch all the antics! So Ah Liu will have to put on his act solo!

Don’t forget the char kiak, juggling three crabs, scratching, and at the same time bouncing off the gate-crashers and non-payers from the front door!

I can’t wait to see the photos when they’re posted.

  56. Hi Harvey Campbell,

  57. This time monyet mati pun tak jadi………..

It’s timely to remember how hard and the many hours the D&D Committe – all volunteers – have put in to make it a nite for us all to enjoy & remember. But as we cant have the same personality with similar likes & dislikes, the programmes & games may only please so many. So may I implore all to nevertheless show our appreciation & support. Only then will the nite walk the talk we all want. Cheers !

  58. Dear Terrence,
I had e-mailed you asking you when and how to pay The $60/= and even gave you my handphone No. 91065818 but you have not reply or contact me. Our register number is 40 n 41. Are we still eligible for the Dinner and Dance on 24.3.07 at Serangoon Garden Country Club. Please reply or contact me as soon as possible. Thanks

  59. Leong, I can understand your disappointment. In the same breath may I also seek your understanding that Terence takes on a demanding job which also requires him to travel very often. With so many names – 125 at the last count – he and the Committee cd only do what appears to be the best i.e. inform thru open posting how payments shd be made. I am sure you’ll agree with me that it’s nil possible for them to contact us individually, mindful that they are volunteers with their own work & family commitments.

It’s very encouraging that you support SHC and its activities. May I please urge you to continue to be with us in this happy ark sailing the tranquil seas, and rest assured, there’ll be more fun activities as we hoist the mast higher to take the full wind.

    Cheers, my friend !

  60. Yeap, Leong, we can understand the disappointment for not being able to attend the first SHC D&D nite. As this is our very first planning for D&D, flaws will be there somehow but I am sure that you that you wont get missed out the next time round in any event as I am sure that the next organizing committees will be more attentive enough to ensure everyone will not left out next time…

Hope to see you around in other activities.

    Cheers, Dolly and the Committees

  61. Helen says,
Just attended 1st time SHC gathering at 18 Bali Lane yesterday & looking forward to join the D&D event so to meet up with all the members who are there. Very unfortunate to know the seats are limited. Since it is a SHC D&D can the number be extended to all members. Thank you.
Also Alice glad to see you again.
