GREAT PARTY!

It was a truly enjoyable D & D and kudos to one and all who had a hand in making it a success. Maybe next year we can stretch the party a little longer? It was nice to finally put a face to the names on the website.

Nice meeting all of you, see you at the next event.

  1. May I join Catherine to talk abt “hand”….a truly enjoyable hand….so smooth, soft & boneless ….in that warm handshake which seemed to last forever and reminded me of the famous hainanese chicken rice…..So different fr Steven’s hand which was like that 5-finger mountain locking sumokong away from partying for 500 years..

Yes, we must stretch the party a little longer next time, maybe make it a 72-hour event spanning over the entire wkend. You dont need to sleep when there’s so much food, dancing, lucky draws. And good company.

  2. Still not dance enough and want more? So much energy – vow! I’m very tire when return home and sleep immediately until 10:30 the next morning.

Will you join our line dance this Wed.

Thanks for your drive. Nice to have the chance to talk to your mother on the way. Such a charming woman in her 70. Sorry, I can just speak Cantonese.

My e-mail address is wcyeung28@hotmail.com. May I also have yours e-mail address. Thanks

  3. Hey Tim! – U sure are a man of many talents (well….at least 2 that I found out about at the D & D, that you do very well – write and sing)U can give the getai singers a run for their money hehe! Hopefully we can expect a repertoire of songs from Mr. Liu next year – Yeh!

A 72 hour event IS stretching it a little, dont you think? Maybe you dont need to sleep but the ladies certainly do. Lastly how in the world does a ‘hand’ compare to chicken rice? Anyway shall take that as a compliment or better be dumb than glum. Cheers!

Tim, what had Catherine’s hand to do with Steven’s hand ?

Btw ,what is locking sumokong????away from partying for 500yrs. Pls. enlightened me.

Tim ,you should consider yourself lucky if you can live 100 yrs. not to mention 500yrs.

  5. Hi Catherine,
Seems like only the guys are asking for a 72-hr stretch event hor…
You are definitely, certainly rite… 72-hr stretch too much for ladies…Maybe slightly after 1am shd be ok lor… Well leave this to the next year organizing committees to ‘headache’ la… :)

  6. Yes, Catherine, I too thot so highly of myself one fateful evening 5 years ago when I sang at a getai. (Still sobbing)just into my early lyrics, you know what….the goondu band changed the music to a funeral song. SBKL. So with my fist over my heart and swearing it with more conviction than reciting the Pledge, I vowed that there’ll be no repertoire for me even if someone sends his leopard tua to frighten me.

Yes, it’s impt to sleep. Patrick can sleep on my arm but being a good butty, he sure will make space for others and go for Yew Kwong’s thigh. If you want that space, pls pls speak out & pls pls dont be dumb hor otherwise someone else takes it then you become glum & grumble the whole nite, then how? Dolly, dont worry lah, I hv 2 arms.

Hainanese chicken rice is served boneless too, tender & succulent………

Steven, you asked “Tim, what had Catherine’s hand to do with Steven’s hand ?” Yr hand is that of a bro, Catherine’s hand is that of a sis. See the difference? Or was I mistaken with you?

Sumokong, aka Zi Tian Da Sheng, is a mythical character created by Wu Chern Ern in his novel “Journey to the West” (Si You Ji). Sumokong was born out of a rock, crowned himself king of water-veil cave (sui nien dong), created so much havoc that the king of gods (yu di) invited him to become another diety but in truth, gave him the task of looking after horses. Incensed, he stole yu di’s mom’s fruit of longevity to eat, and was finally capped by buddha in his palm (which was called the 5-finger mountain) and was locked up for 500 years.

No, I’ll consider myself unlucky if I get to live 100 years…..without you around to bring me laughs, will there be any meaning to live an hour longer?

  7. Hi Andrew – have already replied to you giving you my email address. Keep in touch.

Tim – didn’t know of your ‘traumatic’ experience 5 years ago. But why not be innovative and sing a repertoire for funerals instead? Might be start of a new business! (No offence intended for anybody just taking a jibe at your comment) Never say die (no pun intended) till you try!

Dont need your arms cos I have my chicken rice ones and to put in your words ‘tender and succulent’ aiyo sounds like good eating rather than sleeping.

Steven – need to know if you have posted the letters already. Thanks.

  8. Andrew, you didnt ask for my email address or invite me for a danz? Ha, ma lat lor no good huh? Kam, dim jo heng dei ah?

Me sing at funerals? Ha, even the dead will sit up to laugh and miss his flight home. Yes, I’ll never say die; when the time comes, i simply die but not b4 I wave you gdbye. Then you can cry.

I helped Steven to post the letters. Wonder why he has so many friends in mandai zoo.

  9. Catherine, thanks for you e-mail, sure will keep in touch.

Tim, how can a man invite another man for a dance? Not reasonable, ah. Sorry, I don’t quite sure about the meaning of “ma lat lor no good hub? Kam, dim jo heng dei ah?”

I guess it should be ” man no good hub? Then, how to made friend (brother) ah?” in Cantonese. Am I right? Vow, it take me days and nights to figure it out.

  10. Correct Answers :-
    1. Can. And reasonable. You’re conservative. And shy?

    2. Right, clever.

1 out of 2 correct, you passed, promoted, congrats !

  11. Hi Tim
Thanks you for give me an promotion. This means my hard working to figure out the answer days and nights is not wasted

    Hi Catherine
Still have not received your e-mail

  12. Andrew, I asked the qns at 9.58 a.m.; you answered them at 1.15 p.m. on the same day. So this means that your working hard “days and nites” is on something else. Dont worry, yr effort wont go wasted one lah, it will come if not in the day, then at nite; if neither, then in twilight.

Meanwhile, ah liu is ready to send you one, want? Like they say, if no mermaid, sea cucumber also good.

    Ok, will catch up again.

  13. Hahaha dear Ah Liu san, you never fail to make me chuckle. You have good talent to be a standup comic (good waste of talent) In these trying and stressful times, everyone needs a good laugh and you can certainly do the job well! Take the top prize for gift of the gab! Hip hip hurray!

Andrew – I have tried resending email and realised I have omitted the 28 from the email address. This time round you should be receiving it. Bye for now

  14. Tim wrote…No, I’ll consider myself unlucky if I get to live 100 years…..without you around to bring me laughs, will there be any meaning to live an hour longer?

I am so “touch” by what you said.In my next life, and if you are to reborn as a woman, you will definitely be one of my choices for a perfect life partner who can bring me laughter everyday. Ha! Ha!…

No wonder they say “Laughter is the Best Medicine” and with you around ,would there be a need for a doctor?

  15. Hi Tim ,

Thanks for your detailed explanation of the Sai yau Kei and the 5 fingered mountain.

This reminds me of the Kung Fu hustle Chow Sing Chee movie where he flew into the sky and uses the Buddha’s Palm ( Fait Sow ) to fight with his enemy.

Not to worry your 2 letters were safely posted at Clementi MRT Stn.

Catherine, let’s go to the “Secret Garden” to continue our discussion otherwise,Ah Tim will sebuk sebuk lah!

  17. When the jester took the deep bow, was there one – just one – in the discerning audience who saw the tears welling in his eyes? Destined as such, the jester soldiers on, clowns on till he drops dead and up stand another jester.

Now, back to showtime with Syeven.

Why must it be me and not you to be reborned as a woman? With longer legs which makes you more leggy, you’ll make a more voluptuous woman than the Fann holding the Wong, and top choice for a life partner and double up as a part-timer.

Yes, Steven, talking abt kung fu, never in my wildest imagination did I know that 30 years later 2day, Jin Yung’s wu xia novels have become literatur materials for schools. Me still think that Ba Jin, Lu Shun, Cao Shue Jing etc
    write better recipes on morals.

“Secret Garden”………garden of Eden? Adam ate that god-damned apple there and we guys are made to suffer. You wont be that lucky to be offered an apple but a whole D24 durian to swallow. It’s already a load for us to carry adam’s apple, now where do we put Steven’s durian? What the hell is this

  18. Hi Ah Tim,

Are you one of the members in the SHC admin censorship board network ?

It seems not even one of the comments you posted has been censored before ?

Comments posted esp.the one you mention abt Steven deep ventured into Gloria Jeans …….. is a bit too far.

I had been laughing and enjoying your “CREATIVE MIND” at work.

I take it as a joke but other “sensitive” members would not have felt the same way.

Caught you Tim Ah Liu ,
the Secret Gardens is not what you had in mind. It is a place where we can share music, musical concerts or songs with other SHC members.

    Steven

  19. Steven,

I aint in the SHC admin censorship board. It’s nice of you to keep a vigil for me to ensure that none of my comments is removed. Thank you.

“Gloria Jeans” was the brainchild of my friend. The original excerpt from him reads like this “….and me headed to Gloria Jeans for coffee and chit-chat….”.

If it was sensitive then why did he post it? If it wasnt bcos even to the dumb-witted, Gloria Jeans cannot be a pair of jeans worn by a lady named Gloria. So, my asking him to venture further with his head cannot be a case of my venturing too far and into the rarefied zone of sensitivities.

You seem to hv this uncanny power to read others’ feelings. Do pls teach me.

Since the apollo episaode I hv chosen to be a little more circumspect and hv not failed myself so far.

So you caught Tim Ah Liu in regard to the Secret Gardens bcos you think he doesnt know what it is, where it is? I too like that cosy place tucked away in a quiet part of Middle Rd where its owner will tell me how good his biz is. You know him? I do….NH also runs a spa. He isnt sensitive and will be happy to buy you beer and Gloria, a pair of low waist jeans.

Thanks, Guest. I am obliged to you for saying it so kindly of me & being among the enlightened folks here.

Well. Steven is actually quite fun to hv around. He is cute, albeit cute at our age is usually frowned at as being “lao cute”, not exactly flattering. Hehe, without his teasing ah liu, the latter wd hv little to do.

  20. Hi all,

Seems we should make the D n D an Annual event lah , judging by the response of people who have enjoyed not only the night itself but months before the event.

The enjoyment people derive in preparation for the D n D , reminds us that it is not the end that matters but the journey and how you enjoyed the journey that really matters.

So is not our life a journey , so let us make the best of it, of course going to Chiang Mai, Xiamen adds a little variety. But nothing adds the kind of zest , interest and spirit to work on something for hours just to perform for just a minute.

So i suggest our next D n D event should allow more participants to come forward to perform whatever they want , sing a song , tell a story , do a dance, a magic show etc. EVen if 100 of us wants to perform let it be , at 1 min each , that will be just 1.30 hours of entertainment at it’s best. Why , because the 100 people would have enjoy hours of fun, enthusiasm, and determination in preparation for their performance. This is something even money can bring this kind of joy. I for once, never thought we all would have enjoyed line dancing the way we did, it was because of the team spirit , the demand to do well , to perform that helps everyone to be focus and to make time for it.

REad , what Andrew just said about wanting to play a song with his old lover , it brings a happiness that is otherwise forgotten in today’s materialistic world. We should put all such concerns aside at times and be more concern of how dance steps , words of the songs we want to sing and know our journey to more golden years is here.

    Cheers

  21. Hi,
Thanks for the input and suggestions but why not leave your name behind so that you can at least give Terence a chance to narrow his search for the event organizer for D&D next year har?? You should be SHC member since you hv attended the D&D rite??

  22. It’s no secret that the D&D Committee wanted to give us a great & memorable nite, and they delivered with pomp and grace. Thank you Committee.

But to say that they had derived enjoyment in the journey of preparation may be a little off the mark but that’s now water under the bridge.

Every big event is a mammoth challenge with a lot of give & take so I am pleased that Guest is enthused and he/she might like to take the lead next year. God willing, I’ll walk the talk (Steven, you come along?) with him/her.

    Cheers
