  1. How can I resist…. Good company, soothing music, beautiful place… mmmm, I am game!

Terence, I think you need a new calendar leh… Sunday is 29th.

  2. The reminder reads : “Don’t forget mats, umbrellas, sunshades.”.

Well, btwn 6pm & 7pm (duration of the performance) there wont be much of a sun to shade. But then, you cant be taken seriously as one who appreciates the arts if you dont carry an umbrella and wear a hat.

I still keep that very big, foldable straw mat which I used to take to the parks much later in the evenings. Yes, how can we forget the mat and the many wonderful things it can do for us………. which brings back the smile. Or agony?

  3. Something interesting n enjoyable which U guys may want 2 do.

Bring bread or bread crumbs (cutting up the slices into small pieces) along to feed the fishes in the lake.

Prior to this day, you can accumulate your bread leftover. U just need to dry them under the sun. Once they are dried, you cut them into crumbs n keep them in a bag or container.

At least U know that your unconsumed bread are put into good use.

  4. I would love to attend. Will bake some banana cup cakes for those attending. Sorry cannot bring coffee or tea so its BYO. Oh yes must “kiap” the clothes pegs to my eye lids so that I wont fall asleep in the afternoon. C U there.
    Warmest Regards
    Caroline Gee

  5. I’m new. I joined a day after D&D registration closed, so cant get to go to the D&D,(sob… sob…) Not going to miss this activity, please count me in. Rain, shine or thumderstorm, will be there. Ya, pot luck why not, so we shall have good food, good music, good company ……

  6. Hi all,

This is free and easy , lah, come rain or shine, no admission tickets or rules or whatever .

Only problem is how to find each other.

Will surely join in if i am around, pot luck is definitely a good idea.

Music, wine, and more food the better.

Before the concert let’s bring our music and dance together.

Patrick, Tim, Yew Kwong can tell your jokes and pull out all your feathers.

To be comfortable bring any seat or stretcher.

Also an umbrella as u’ll never know the weather.

Who knows where to find any shelter?

    Cheers,
    Allrounder

  7. Ha ha Terence. From your reply at item 3 above, you changed the date from 28 Apr 2007 to 29 MAR 2007!!! Ha ha… I am so mean to be nitpicking. We all know it is 29 APR 07.

  8. Hahaha, Terence, you very the steady, man ! Clara becomes Joy, 29 becomes 28 so butties, dont be surprised if we see him wearing the red triangle outside the pants this Saturday, a bedsheet hanging on his back and a gas tank tied to his butt for propulsion.

Btw, today is Wednesday and maybe Terence wants us to get rich and was actually hinting smthg………lucky numbers 2829, 2928, 2289, 9822,2982………?

  9. Hi. I’m new and keen to find out more about the club. So what better way to combine what I enjoy (light classical music and greenery) and getting to know other members.

    See you there.

  10. So how ah? We are having potluck or BYO. I m game for anything. Sorry Terence and Yew Kwong. Cannot bring my Hainanese chicken rice because too heavey lah. :( Next time when no need to walk so far then can. :)
    Warmest regards
    Caroline

  11. Do check here http://www.sbg.org.sg/visitorinfo/usageparktc.asp for the terms and conditions for the usage of garden premises.
We shall be having a mini potluck on that day. Do indicate what you are bringing so that there will not be too many of the same food. Do not forget to BYO your water for consumption.
Most of you would have been to the Botanic Gardens and would have no problem getting to the venue. For those who have not, we will meet at the Tanglin Gate entrance along Napier Road and go in together. More details later.
Meantime, keep your ideas coming on how we can make this a memorable event.

  12. A mini pot-luck? Great !

The last time I brought a dead duck to the east coast potluck; am now contemplating of bringing a live-duck. If Caroline is coming with her hainanese chicken then let the birds socialise first while we prepare the bbq pit.

No objection if Steven walks his dog there too – we just hv to make the pit a little bigger.

  13. Ah Tim Kor,

Sorry, Steven will not be bringing
his “sum kon ting”, his pet dog chow chow to the park for fear that Ah liu might “savage” it.

    Steven

  14. Hi Steven,
I’m not attending the gathering on 29 Apr. Not sure about Terence. Can I pick up the specs from you? Will write to you later. Thanks.

    ivy

  15. Hi Ivy,

    Thamks for your prompt reply.

It is OK now as Terence has indicated that he would be coming on 29/4. I will just pass my old specs to him.

  16. Hi Oi Cheng

Suppose you are going to start soon listing the people attending the gathering and the items for pot-luck. To start with, I am bringing curry and maybe sardine puffs. Note that we have to abide Botanic Gardens rules & regulations, so the gathering probably stroll around the gardens, sit around chit-chatting making new friends and listen to soft music.

  17. Presumably, Oi Cheng is busy. So, I’ve compiled a list of those confirmed attending, in accordance to their logged-in names and order. Oi Cheng, hope you don’t mind my being busy-body.

    1) Tan Mary
    2) Ann
    3) Terence
    4) Tim Liu
    5) Lily Ho
    6) Yew Kwong
    7) Caroline Gee
    8) Ann Lim
    9) Guest (Allrounder)
    10) Debbiely
    11) Melissa
    12) Linda Chang
    13) Oi Cheng
    14) Steven
    15) Clara

Actually, instead of bringing lots of barang-barang, it might be better off just to bring some snacks such as pop-corn, chips, etc. By all means, those who want to BYOB, feel free to do so. It should be free and easy. The less hassle, the more enjoyable. We can always go for late dinner/early supper afterwards.

I’ve been to Botanical Garden FOC concert many times. Depending on the performance, it’s quite crowded with children and dogs running around. You’ll have to be there early enough to get a good spot and it’s definitely no fun having to lug stuffs around in the humid afternoon. It’s quite a long walk from the main gate at Napier Rd and only starts to get cool after 6.30pm. The nearest gates for those who drive, are the Burkill and Tyersall gates. There are other nearer gates along Tyersal/Cluny Park Rd but no parking. There is a multi-storey carpark at Nassim Rd which is FOC on Sunday.

I usually just bring along 1 or 2 packets of chips and buy my coffee from the kiosk there which also sells cold drinks and ice-cream. There used to be an ice-cold drinking fountain inside the souvenir pavilion, not sure if it’s still there.

  18. I confirm my attendance. Also, Lily’s sharing is instructive.

Altho another pot-luck can be exciting but with so many dogs running after children and adults chasing after the dogs, chances of their tripping over our pots of curry, sharks’ fin soup can be very real. The Straits Times might give a full coverage of the pandemonium with photos of silverhairs pulling their hairs in exasperation the next morning. So, maybe the bringing of snacks, tidbits which can be easily passed round is a better idea.

Ok, usually you just bring along 1 or 2 packets of chips but this time hor, you’ll hv to either bring more packets or bring the provision shop owner there to sell the snacks. No pressure here, it’s entirely your choice.

  19. Thanks Lily for compiling the names. Wasn’t sure how I could submit the post though Terence tried to tell me. Anyway, thanks to Yew Kwong, I finally managed to put up the post. But Terence how do I attached previous comments onto my post?

  20. Terence, your “I am coming to” almost made me cry. You must have put on every pair of the almost 100 specs to check & label their powers accordingly. Glad you are recovering ……..that’s why I hv fallen in love with this kindly gentle gentleman who always has a heart for the underprivileged, poor or despondent.
