  1. Hi Terence and D & D Committee members,

Congratulations to one and all for the highly successful first D & D function. My wife, Kristy, and I enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. It was very well organised and the spirit of the members were high. Although this was our first participation in the SHC activities, we were made to feel very much at home. We have already made some friends like Jie, Rene, Tim, Charles, Richard & Shirley.

We would also like to thank Steven, our good friend, for introducing us to SHC.

    Robert & Kristy

  2. Hi all,

I am very happy finally to meet who is Tim Ah Liu Bocelli whose looks similar to Benson Koh,our SHC professional phtographer ,other NEW members like Catherine Yeo, Nancy Tay,Norlinda M ,Anne Ho,Benson Koh,Yew Kwong ,Shirley n Richard Lam,Gibson, etc.etc…and some who are interested in travelling, dancing, karaoke, ,garden, cycling and it was so thoughtful of Terence to introduce me to 2 pet lovers.

Tim indeed can sing very well in his Hokkien song and was very sporting too.No wonder, he called himself a “Bocelli”

Thanks to Terence and the SHC party D and D committee . They had put in lots of EFFORT and sacrifice their TIME to launch this very Successful Event.

I truly believed everyone of us was enjoying and having a FUN time. It helps to bring back the beautiful memories of our “younger”days.

If only all of us could ” Turn Back the Clock”, remember the lyrics from the popular oldies song.

We would be looking forward to our next SHC D and D 2008.

Will it be an Annual Event ?

    Steven Chan

  3. Good morning one and all. Thanks to Terence, Dolly and Company for the great party. It has been a while since I truly enjoyed myself. It was great meeting new friends. Everyone was so warm and friendly. Did a good workout on the dance floor. I am looking forward to the next gathering. Now I can put a face to the familiar names I see on the blogs. Take care and have a nice day :D
    Warmest Regards

  4. Many thanks to the Committee for bringing to us a hugely successful D&D. They blended well with each everyone of us and were very professional in more ways than one, mindful that they probably held a event of this scale for the first time. Congrats to a good job done well and surpassed our expectations! My heartiest appreciation also goes to fellow members without their warmth, spontaneity & desire, the D&D wd not hv been such a resounding succeess.

Looking ahead, perhaps, we cd get that larger-than-Patrick pillar out of the way so that every movement is seen unobstructed and nobody gets to cheat a step (esp in dancing)

Thanks Robert, it too was my pleasure to meet with you and Kristy.

Btw, Steven, if my “yeh kong” sounded more hokien than mandarin, I’ll try to woof whoof the next time so that you wont miss the love I wanted to tell you in my song. That you think I look like Benson flatters me. Frankly, you were very funky.

By saying so much abt dogs & cats when Terence seeks suggestions on the next D&D, surely, you arent looking to demarcate a corner for pets to play, dance and then ask us to share their “vegetarian salmon meal and kangaroo meat meal …which help to reduce dog allergies in sensitive dogs.”? Arent you carrying the saying “every dog has its day” a tad too far?

  5. Good Morning to all. Our sincere thanks to Terence, Dolly and her organising members. We have a great time dining and dancing. Perhaps for the next D & D, we pay a bit more to have a live oldies band or a professional Mobile DJ to charge up the evening till midnight (if we have good music, 11pm is a wee bit early). Overall, a job well done. Cheers
    Jeffrey Fong and Maureen Tay

  6. Hi All,
Glad that most of them enjoyed the D&D and I would like to take this opportunity to list down the names of the committees who had worked so hard for this first D&D

    1) Molly Chua and Susan Chang to liaise with SGCC on layout, food and bewerages. Molly is also the coordinator for hula hula contest.

    2) Joyce Chee and Irene Seet – games’ coordinators. Joyce also add as disc jockey for the nite.

    3) Mary Tan and Irene Chan – Lucky/games coordinators

    5) Clara Chay – Lead Singer of the SHC jingle and MC for the nite.

    6) Ronald Wi – Coordinator for line dance performance.

    7) Yew Kwong – Collection of D&D payments and helping out in the stage backdrop…

    8) Joy Chuang – Registration and picking up those lucky draw numbers.

    9) Benson Koh – our event photographer for the nite.

Though we have our differences in opinions and ideas but I am glad that we are able to come to a compromise to get the event going.

Also thanks to Steven, Lisa and Harvey for their help on that day also…

  7. It was a successful, wonderful, enjoyable D/D nite. Thank you for the unity, co-operation, in working as a team…. The friendship doesn’t stop here ….we are looking forward to more good days, friendship and companionship ahead…. cheers

  8. It was a successful , wonderful and enjoyable D&D nite. Thank you for the unity and co-operation in working as a team..Cheers to the friends we have and friends who yet to come along….

  9. I agree with Fong. I enjoyed dancing very much that night but I think I would enjoyed it even more to hits like “I saw her standing there”, “Love Potion No”, etc. My favourites. And Tim, whenever I feel down, I just need to read your comments and I will be in stitches. Thanks for bringing all the laughter to us. Pls continue with your good work. Cheers to everyone for the lovely D&D. Maybe next year we can have a theme party. Wat do u thing? :D

  10. Hahaha… Caroline…. you are the best person that Terence will be calling you for the next event organiser liao…

Gosh, we just had the D&D last Sat and you are thinking of next year D&D liao… wow-man, you are really fast la… Me just a sigh of relief that it was finally over and done le… hehehehehe… Dolly

  11. Hello Dolly, You and the committee did a great job. I am sure you feel a bit sad it is done. This running around makes you feel so young again right? Aiyah. Like I said, havent had so much fun for such a long time time. 11pm is the time when the night has justed begun but its the end for us. Like what some members said, maybe next year we pay more and get a place where we can have late closing hours, maybe also can dress retro and relive those good old (I mean young days). Aiyoh, a “live” wil be so good. Of course we need Dolly to be around to help otherwise we have no experience like what Chinese like to say, “che kuay kang kong” – green horns no experience. My colleagues and family were so eager to know what we in Silverhairs Club can do. Boy were they in for a surprise. They half expect me to go home and complain. When I told them how much fun I had, they were so envious lah! don’t he he he ok Dolly. Next year we La la la (pull pull pull) you to help. Once again, thanks for the lovely evening of fun and laughter, food and joy. :D
    Warmest Regards

  12. Eh sorry so cheong hei. Makan already so goyang kaki and nothing to do already. Forgot to ask what happened to Yew Kwong. He had one too many that night. Thought he peng sun and have this hangover until now. He always have something to say how come so quiet. Hope you are ok huh? Take care
    Warmest Regards

  13. My friends and I really enjoyed the night. Everyone was so spontaneous at the dance floor. We also enjoyed listening to our “SHC Idols”. It was also real fun watching each best dressed couple giving off their best. Many thinks to the organising committee for doing a great job.

Looking forward to the next event.

  14. The first surprise was the ballroom; its decor and the setup. The backdrop was well done; The word SHC was supposed to be made with balloons. I was aware we did not hire an external team to do the setup. No budget. This was 100% SHC made. Very nice indeed.

Suddenly, not in the program, and out of the blue, Harvey took the mic, and he did not stop until we all went home. He must have been a disc jockey before. Surprise, but great job.

The music was good. We did not have a mobile disco, but everything was almost pro. Turns out very well. A few cracks; but the pros brought everything back to schedule. My eyes were sharp enough to notice Ronald behind the mixer. He really has an ear for music. And, we have Joyce who told me to get off the floor after the 1st line dance, as I was beginning to embarass myself. Thanks Joyce.

Do you know why Mary Tan and Irene Chan were standing behind the prizes table? Gosh, they thought of everything, making sure each of us had something to bring home.

Has anyone ever been to a D&D wearing name tages? These were made by Dolly, and I thought they were very well done, and very appropriate. Please keep them for future functions.

Never ask me to organise games. But Joyce and Irene Seet were just great; young at heart, and still manageable by SilverHairs standard. Great entertainment. They did not make us do musical chairs.

And, of course, our offical photographer for the night, Benson Koh. It will take a bit of time, but he promises to get the photos to us in a few days. He shot for us at the last pot luck.

Ronald and Clara both sang the SHC Jingle. For the time and effort; this is really commendable. For the lyrics, this makes great memories. SHC has many talents; Ronald and Clara are two of them.

Keep a watch out for our two Hokkien singers. Do you know who they are? On a scale of 1 – 10, I would give both of them 9 and 9.5 (10 is excellent).

Susan Chang did not control the flow of wine and whisky. So, what happened was there was this lady who went around with a few bottles of whisky. I think her name is Molly. She gave me almost two full glasses of whisky, no ice; and I cannot remember what she looked like, and what happened between 10 pm and 1am.

And finally, for Dolly to bring everything together; with a team of committee members selected way in advance of her appointment as Event Organiser. Wow ! Do you know what is the punishment for doing such a good job?

  15. Aiyoh, Caroline, I always thought I looked young mah even before this running ard leh…
Yeap, party ended at 11pm was abit too early but we still enjoyed most of the hours lah…

Yes, next year, die die also must make sure that Terence only cheong those plcs tag with late closing hours plus convenient transportation services lor.

I am sure that there a lots of hidden talents in our SHC groups, just that Terence need to scout scout here and there only la… and he is really good at this la… Of cos, I can help out if time permits lor… Dolly

  16. 72hrs is a problem hoh especially for the ladies…, it is a beauty regimen to have sufficient sleep to avoid wrinkles and black eyebags. Do u know what will happen after the 72hrs ? the magic begins, the clock struck, and the beauty turns into a …? (try to imagine)haha.. BUT Guys you can go ahead, you can rock, spin, turn around the clock hehe until u see stars !!! Having a mobile disco is a good idea for the next round, we just need to pay more as it is only a yearly event..Rgds,clara

  17. It was good leadership for Dolly as the chairperson to personally acknowldge & put on record the contributions of each & everyone in her committee. With that, we see the close of a class act, without, however, close our keen anticipation for the next D&D even as memories of that evening continue to live on.

If Carol says she enjoys “Love Potion No” then even cupid wont know what to do with her. I dont believe a concoction of basic instinct, love, lust, betrayal, sax…ingredients in a successful soap opera, will suit her. But if she is looking for Love Potion No. 9, I hv the last bottle and, for a candlelight dinner @ lau par sat, it’s hers to keep. She’ll never again need any che kuay or soong kuay, green kang kong or black king kong with my LP No.9 putting her on song and making her so song.

Think anyone can knock Yew Kwong out with volka or john travolta? Maotai or maotzetung? No way, not even mohd ali or mohd sultan.

That nite hor, ah liu quietly sneaked a drop of LP 69 into his brandy and within seconds he slumped on his chair, hanged his tongue 1 side and went on a hot date with chow kung, thinking of 69, 96…whatever.

  18. Aiyah, we dont hv to jump & jump thru’out the 72 hours lah…….we guys also need to sleep ok, so yes, a very big place where we all can sleep together, jump together and then go back to sleep, and waking up to see each other the way we honestly look like………….hehehe, but pls hor, the rule of the game doesnt allow anyone to run away, whatever he or she may behold. Mask is allowed though.

  19. Aiyah Tim. I was typing away and did not check. You are right. Its “Love Potion No 9”. My favourite karaoke and dance song. Really you are hilarious. Just cant stop laughing. My colleagues think I have gone bonkers. Every morning I open the website hoping you will write something so that it will start my day right. You never fail to deliver. I am not waxing lyrical but its true. So Yew Kwong you ok? Still no news. Have a nice day everyone :D
    Warmest Regards

  20. Hi Terence,
I would like to add on extras on what you said that la…

    1) Backdrop and ballroom set-up : Yeap, you are very very right, it was so much nicer then balloons which was originally planned -hahaha – din’t I told you that we are full of surprises.. and all these credits must be given to Steven – adding so much beautiful artwork on top of the lettering and Yew Kwong do all those glittering touch-up. Blowing of balloons definitely hv to give credit to Lisa Ong and Irene Seet as I saw them very busy blowing balloons after balloons for this deco.

    2) Though I dont deny that Harvey was good, in fact too good but I still prefer to give Clara this credit as one can see that she was trying her vry best at MCing…

    3) Ronald Wi’s & the group line dance was really fantastic and I am sure they are going to have alot of ppls persuing this interest…

    4) Credit to Joy Chuang who man the registration of members in a smooth manner.

    5) Lastly but not the least, I must really salute to Irene Seet, you know, she only told me aft the event was over that she had a fall b4 the D&D nite and her back hurt badly but she din asked to be excused from her duties at all…. good and responsible…

It is pity that later, I realised that Benson was not in our group photo when he asked us to line up for a photo shoot which I felt that it will be less perfect…

Aiyo, Terence, 1 chinese song (Tim) and 1 hokkien song (Patrick Yeo) la…. chinese and hokkien sound alike meh… I wonder???

  21. Very sory, I am quite bad in remember names.. Anyway, well done to Dolly and the committe who organise this event. looking forward to meet all of you nice people.
    Cheeeeers.

  22. Closing:
    collected $3,210
    Place, food and drinks $2,814.
Balance: $396 (As I don’t wish to hold this amount, lets carry forward to next function).

All sponsors, thank you so much. and All helpers, thank you a lot. This has helped us to save a lot of cost.

    See you next year.

  23. I have no doubt that one of the big sweep tickets hit the first prize of $2 million for the March 28 draw. Cogratulations ! Now this lucky winner can retire……..Malacca, Johore, Sarawak, Tibet with all his e-ma ku-j in tow.

  24. Kudos to the Terence, Dolly and all committee members for a wonderful evening at the D&D. Never had so much fun for a very long time and glad to note/know so many other wonderful SHC members.

Though unable to get to know everyone that night but I’m sure this is just the beginning for many more fun time with good friends.

Looking forward to more events of SHC. Regards, Lisa
