  1. Hi all,

Trying to promote JB, Malacca and KL/Genting as an enjoyable shopping, holiday, or short term retirement living destination.

JB, Tebrau City which about 15 Km from the causeway boast the largest, newest, modern Shopping centre in Malaysia. Plenty of shopping, supermarket, hair saloons, Harris Book store (biggest in JB) and good and cheap restaurants catering from authentic Thai, Chinese to Western cuisine.

Car, driver available at $60/$100 half day/full day rates, starting from 9am to 3pm and 9am to 10 pm, inclusive of petrol, toll ,etc. and pickup within central locations.

So get your group of friends, max of 4 and plan for whatever kind of trip your want to discover. Hoping that we can learn, enjoy and discover how we can enjoy living in the best of both worlds.

Take it easy relax and enjoy doubling your money, to discover, and enjoy Malaysia and the wide variety for local foods from Satay Chelup, Ice Kachang, Nyonya food, or Chicken Ball Rice, with me as your freelance guide, at this reasonable cost to cover expenses and time.

Hotel can be arranged up to personal preference from $12 to $50 a night per person. Safe, clean and authentic Perankan Long House Stay.

Limited period only of freelancing, next time it may be in BKK, or Chiang Mai or Hanoi.

    Cheers,
    Allrounder
    SMS of call me 91519301

  2. Allrounder, you said you’ll provide freelance guide but wd you protect them if yr charges are accosted ………..or worse?

For a small fee, I’ll provide you protection; in turn your charges can ride on my protection.

    Ai mai?

  3. Hi Tim, Charles and all,

Take this as a cheap limousine service, that is on call.

So all you have to do, is for you to gather own group of up to 4, fix your own time and date and refer to the rates that i charge, and if you find that is acceptable then call me.

You can make a trip with your own family, friends, etc and choose any place that you want or even visit your own relatives at your own time, just like a private limousine that is at your call.

No additionial charge only the daily rates as quoted above, no need to pay for meals, accommomodation etc to the driver. You can even pretend you don’t know me, cause it may not be even be me, as it can be someone else. However your privacy is assured for whatever reasons.

Also there is no need for protection, etc as i am trying to promote the idea that Malaysia is a safe place but if you do have your own insurance ,etc that is of course good.

    Cheers

  4. Hi Ronald, and everybody else,

I am keen to form a 4-some group to explore some old, seaside/fishing village type area, within 2 hours from Singapore.

Hopefully, there are still good and cheap playgrounds in Johore, for food and relaxation.

Ronald, you know of a place?

Anybody, like to join this group. Including me and Ronald, we need two more persons. We would make us of this car and driver service. I am ok for a two-day one night weekday. Who’s interested?

    Terence Seah

  5. Terence dear, if I read it correctly, Allrounder is providing a guide service for a fee. Dont think he is minded to pay himself and also guide himself at the same time. So looks like oyu need to find another 3, not 2 to make the trip.

Wkdays out but most wkends ok for me.

  6. Hi all,

I can be included or not included in your foursome or group.

Terence, i suggest your list the dates you can make the trip and let others join, this will be easire.

I am available most of the time, weekday or weekend.

    Cheers

  7. Hi Terence,

Charles is interested but he needs to know when you can make it,for your so called ‘ discovery channel into Johore ‘ to look at suitable hangouts.

So Charles you can also join me on my Tuesday shopping trip, as posted.

    Cheers

  8. Hi Terence,

Yes, I like “old but not rundown ;) seaside/fishing village type” too. Ronald, know of such a place?
My work schedule is still tight but might be available on certain weekends. Terence could you give some dates..

    Cheerio!

  9. Hi Allrounder

Mon being my last day of work, I can join you (Tues) 12 Jun for the JB trip. Just to confirm : leaving at 10am coming back to S’pore around 4pm right? And where do we meet?

Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

  10. Dear All Rounder and all SHC members,

Just a word of caution when shopping or dining in JB. Although I have a property in JB, I hardly go there myself since the day I got robbed of my car and money. That was 7-8 yrs ago but the trauma is everlasting, believe me.

It’s good to hear that we now have some SHC members going to JB as a group and there’s always safety in numbers than alone.

For ladies, pls do not carry handbags and flash your cash when taking money out to pay for things as you never know who’s watching.

I may join you all in one of the weekends. Meanwhile, do enjoy yourselves and watch out for each other and take care. Regards, Lisa

  11. Lisa, sorry to learn that you’re a victim of a JB robbery. The encounter must hv been terrifying. And thanks for alerting us – yr caution to the gals is very timely.

I used to roam abt at century plaza in my younger days, buying uncensored vcds as I had a hankering to bring them home and so beat the system.

I wore shorts & tees, parked my car nvr in the basement carpark but at the road-side along residential houses, waggled abt with a cigarette in hand like another low-down loafer. I had the walkway to myself.

(Haha, dont think any of my butties here want to start smoking for a day’s shopping/dining?)

Personally, I now prefer to go a bit away from JB……..it’s not too long a drive to segamat, muar, batu pahat (still johor towns) or even malacca where lurking danger is much reduced.

  12. Hi all,

Just to round up a little on the feedback so far.

Weekday trip, Tues 12th Jun, – Charles, Lily
    – as stated the cost cover pickups around central areas for your convenience, comfort and safety to and fro.

Weekend Trip – Terence ( waiting for your date) – Chris Chan, Charles. Lisa hope you can join us and show us your place and also of places that you know as you used to hang about there before that unfortunate incident.

Lisa, also thanks for your caution and yes certain guidelines before going there – never act flashy, wealthy or over dress , wear old clothing, drive old car like mine, and act poor like me – less reason for them to rob us.

By the way, i am hoping that these weekly trips and outings can help to boost some confidence among SHC members of visiting Malaysia. I know of some ladies that go that for monthly trips on their own, to JB Central by bus for their monthly beauty makeover all by themselves in small groups of 2 or 3 or even alone.

For info , have just made 2 trips to JB shopping at Tebrau City and can assure all ,there are plenty of Sporeans shopping and enjoying the trips there, though some waiting time is required to get through the causeway.

So looking at the numbers of S’poreans making the weekly weekend trip there and going through all the hussle, it does seem it is not all that bad or scary, but good to go in a group, for many reasons also.

So for those who do have some reservations, do join us to have the comfort in numbers and with me as some kind of protection i.e why i keep my long hair, moustache, old scruffy clothes etc.

    Cheers

  13. Ron, Charles, Lily,
Hmm, looks like I am going to miss your Tue, 12 Jun outing.

Don’t forget the beautiful juicy Malaysian fruits eg the purplish flesh dragon fruit, chempadak and the Mata Kuching. Have fun.

    Terence

  14. Hi Ronald,

How’s your time for Sat, 23 Jun? Saw two other persons Tim and Christina may be available for a Sat too. I look forward to have a day enjoying the space, fresh air and the company of SHC friends.

If your diary is clear, I am ON.

    Terence

  15. Hi Terence and all,

Ok 23rd is good, since on 24th June we are having the sing-along. So Tim, Chris, Charles and Steven ( hope you have recovered now and can join us now), please confirm.

    Suggested plan, for further discussions.

2nd Link, Leisure Resort Retirement village,
Pasir Gudang area, Hong Kong area, Pengarang, Senai Residential Area.

Also, Tebrau City Shopping Centre for a little shopping and dining.

    Cheers

  16. Altho I am bolting at the idea, my coast isnt so clear at the moment. Might hv to spend 1 day of that wkend with my kid b4 school re-opens on Monday 25 June.

  17. Hi all,

For the 23rd trip, we have 5 people already but on this coming Tues trip there is one more vacancy. Joy am taking it that you will be coming along right, for this coming Tuesday trip ?

Maria, sorry about it this time, but will be planning another trip next month and will post the details later on.

However if there is another person who likes to drive we can always formed another group to convoy on the Jun 23rd trip to Malacca.

    Cheers

  18. Ronald,

Am not planning to rent a car this time. But, for next time, do you know of a car rental complany in JB. Reliable though.

I am confirm to join you June 23, Sat.

    Terence

  19. Hi Ronald

I would like to join you, Charles and Lily for this Tuesday’s trip, but as mentioned, I am trying to get leave. My boss returns from his overseas business trip tomorrow and I will know by then.

  20. Charles, Lily and I were the first participants in Ronald Wi’s short escapades to the region.

It was the first time I met with Charles, the first time I chatted with Lily and the first time that I trusted my life in the hands of a man with shaggy hair and moustache.

Ronald was a great ambassador for Singapore and followed all traffic rules. Johore is safe as far as the places we went to, and we came back in one piece.

I enjoyed loafing around the place and eating like I have never eaten before. Thanks to Ronald, Charles and Lily for your great company and I look forward to the next escapade.

Am now resting at home and going back to work on Friday…

  21. Dear Joy/Ron,

Yes, I think Ron is great guy to have when I back pack. To bad, I am just too old to be on the road again. My last troubadouring trip to Japan almost cause me a very very long spell in bed. Long story…

Keep it up Ron, I may want an exclusive from you someday soon.

    Regards,
    Edwin Chen

  22. So there were 3 first-time experiences……….some kind of virginity lost, heeeee, but obviously worth the while.

See, told you that we do hv chivalrous guys in SHC. If you really want to remember this man with shaggy hair and moustache to whom you entrusted yr life, you shd take somethg from him as a souvenir. Yes, 2 strands of his moustache and 3 strands of his shaggy locks – the silver coloured ones.

Btw, we hv a few Rons here so normally Ron is for the dashing Ron Lai, Ronald Wi is that handsome guy with a lot of hair aka Allrounder and Ronald Lee is that suave fella who loves long sleeved white shirts.

  23. Hi all,

For this coming 19th Jun,Tuesday trip, it will be more a golf trip, so if there is anyone who wants to know what it is like to play at a nice golf course like Palm Resort or Palm Villa do join us. Cost overall including golf, lunch and dinner will not be more than $50.

For info the trip on Tues was easy going, as there was no queue at the causeway to and from , so we managed to clear the customs in less than 20 mins each way.

    Cheers

  24. Ronald, ok confirm my participation for the tues golf. Must remind you again you need to tolerate my terrible hits. All is for fun and fellowship.
    cheers.

  25. Hi Charles,

No worry had seen many others through such a stage. Golf is individual game against all the natural and unnatural elements, wind, water, rock, trees, etc.
So will treat you as just another element and part of the game lah.

Any one else who wishes to join us in this golf discovery or escapade to learn with us are welcome.

    Cheers

  26. Hi Allrounder,

I have a property there and nobody is living there. Can be used for stopover and maybe stay the night.

I usually stay the night and return in the late morning to avoid the jam in the evening.

  27. My deceased grandmother used to remind me that all houses hv to be occupied otherwise smthg else will, and they neither pay rent nor want to leave.

Well, maybe Allrounder shd really round up everyone and then they take turns to stay there.

Anyhow, very nice of Daniel for this generous gesture.

  28. Hi Daniel,

Can sure take up your offer, sounds great, if it is in Malacca ?

Please SMS, me as i do have your hp number.

Or why dont you join us for this leisure trip with Terence, Steven and others to discover more about easy living in Malacca. You can come down with your family, if not i have a list of names (3 or 4 now) of people who want to go, and they can join you in another car ?

Of course you don’t have to accommodate all of use, as we can find hotels easily.

    Cheers

  29. Hi all,

Seems the weekly JB Trips is improving with a good partner Daniel coming in to provide more resources, info and experience.

Lists of things you can do on Weekly trips to JB. Additional driver and car available by Daniel. So we can have 2 cars going in at times, or anyone of us can take turns.

    1. Overnight stay at Daniel’s place – possibly also of buying local veggies, fish, prawns, etc to have a good cookout at his place. By the way Daniel can cook Perankan Food, so must try his cooking one of this days.

    2. LIst of things to do
    a. Shopping/dining at Tebrau City – reasonable cheap Dining starting from M$10 for a set meal, Thai, Chinese or Western
    b. Car repair/servicing – Daniel recommended a good shop , in M$ , so good savings.
    c. Durian Fiesta Center D24 good buys M$10 a kg – besides Carefour
    d. Local veggies and fish, etc – same place
    e. Remittance of money to Malysia at Maybank to avoid paying S$30 , if you need to do this , can do it for you.
    f. Shoe repairs – at M$ for a good repair, (leave it there , shop and come back to collect)
    g. Seasons CAfe – daily special at M$6 for a good pasta set lunch, and nice Cheese CAkes at M$33 only or M$4.20 a slice.

    h. Others good food recommended experiences – Daniel – Duck rice , Lily – Beef soup, Ronald – Bak kut Teh -only 1100 to 2pm (sold out after 2pm)

Ok , hope many others who are familiar with JB can come forward like Daniel to share whatever info , ideas you have to share, with those who want to go to JB and to discover retirement opportunities there.

I am hoping that it can be a small blue helmet kind of effort, where members explore and expand ideas to benefit the group. To encourage more people with resources, like cars, vans, houses to come forward everyone has to understand in any co-operative ventures everyone has to benefit a little in monetary term. This is the idea of starting a co-operative , sort of blue helmet in a very informal and small way. A Minute scale of the Iskandar’s project ,retiree’s way ?

Not everyone can be like Terence in organising an acitivity like the Sing a long where he foots 60% of the bill for everyone and also 100% for some.

Well, cheers to Daniel for coming forward and sharing his resources ,info , idea and time.

So to all those who want to go for the JB shopping trip ,join us on Tuesdays and ask for what u want to see or buy, we want to improve the list of things we can do there or shop.

  30. “…hope others familiar with JB can come forward to share whatever info……..”

Ronald, very brave of you to ask for “whatever info” which must necessarily include the hot spot at jln wong ah fook after 9 pm when bevies, throngs, hordes, kampongs of quahs, kwas, kuahs gather to pamper you like a shiekh. Or a mini Iskandar if you like.

No, you dont wear a small blue helmet to meet them but a raincoat tight as a straitjacket which, and you’re right, can explore & expand for maximum benefits. Compulsory.

  31. Hi Ron,

I am glad I have found friends like you and Terence here in SHC.Not forgetting the two sexy Ah soh’s who came along.

  40. Hi Ron Wi,
Sorry to hear about your muscle tear. Are you sure its OK to make the trips. Your inability to return to Phuket for now is our gain.
Yes, I am still very interested in both trips…..to JB and Malacca so let me chope space for both trips. Let me know the details. Mary Chan I believe is also interested.
Hope to hear from you soon……..Jie.

  41. Hi Ron Wie,

Sori 2 hear abt ur muscle tear. Ai yah, didt knw u r planning the Malacca trip on 29-30 Sept. i will b gg 2 Malacca on 15 Sept and bak on 16 Sept wif my kakis. 2 soon 2 join u, prbly nxt tym.

    Cheers

    Dennis

  42. Hi Ronald Wie, I think I went to the wrong link.
I’m interested in your plan to go to Malacca either on the 20th or 29th Sept.
As for the weekly Tuesday trip to JB, I won’t be able to make it as I still have classes to teach on Tuesday evenings for the month of Sept.
Please “chope” (using Jie’s word, hehe) a place for me for the Malacca trip. Thanks

  43. Hi Dennis Wee,
    Thanks.
I haven’t been to Malacca for ages. I’m wondering if it has changed much.
I think you must be the gentleman who lives in Pasir Ris right? So how’s the response to the morning walks suggestion? Do you and your wife walk very early, like 6am? I will join in if I can drag myself out of bed, haha. I usually rise at about 7am or so unless I’ve had a late night but it might be fun to do the 6am walks like I used to do at the ECP many years back.

  44. Hi Mary C,

Yes i m the gentleman who lives in Pasir Ris. I dont walk so often. I usually cycle in the morng alone as most of my kakis hf 2 tek care of grandchildren. At the moment, i hf stopped cycling bcoz of work. I do p/t work. i m a semi-retired man.

I m trying 2 post on SHC website but i juz cant do it since last sat. M still try….ing, probly will lose my patient and give up the whole idea.

Hf spoken 2 Terence abt it. He is try…ing 2 help.

Anyway, will try again and see how it goes

    Cheers

    Den

  45. Hi Dennis Wee,
Keep trying and no need to apologise. Everyone makes mistakes. :-). I understood perfectly what you meant, even if some others don’t, haha.

  46. Hi Ron,

Would have liked to join in on this JB trip. Unfortunately am house bound this month of Oct.
As for the Malacca trip, any time after Oct, if you are heading that way, let me know. As you know I still have some unfinished business there…..besides, I do enjoy the trips.

    Thanks and keep in touch……..Jie

  47. Hi Ronald,
    Thanks.
Like Jie I am housebound, so no trip to JB or anywhere else for the moment.
It’ll have to be in November, like Jie.
So, hope to be able to join then,
    Cheers.

  48. Hi all,

Just to like to say that since I am taking a long holiday before deciding what I will do next year, I can start doing the JB Daily trip now and then. I have had some requests and people asking me about the JB trips.

So if anyone is keen to form a small group of 2 to 4 persons, just drop me an email or sms at bswi@yahoo.com. Just a min of 2 persons will be good enough, if you promise to be good company.

As I am easy going so I can tolerate quite a range of characters and to enjoy myself at the same time while I try at the same time to be more familiar with JB as my second home.

The Daily trip can be for shopping at Tebrau City, Sentosa Chinatown, Pelangi Plaza or Holiday Inn Plaza or any other interesting places that you know of.

Cost is only $10 per person and pickup is from Central MRT stations, however will send you back to your house at the end of the day, to relief you of tugging your shopping home.

    Cheers

  49. Hi all,

About JB Day trip, preferably on any day except Tues. Weekends can be on a case to case arrangement. Sorry for not mentioning this as I have class and other program on Tuesdays.

    Cheers
