  1. Thanks Daniel for the out-of-the-hole questions for our helpers at Suntec. I shall answer them here.

    1. Why no need to pay for membership?
*** SilverHairsClub is for seniors, for those who are still working or have fully retired. SHC is intended to run at low costs. We use existing premises in countryclubs, restaurants, and nice venues. We do not operate a physical club. Everybody makes our own name cards. We sing ourselves, we laugh at ourselves. We entertain ourselves. We operate on a low costs. We run a virtual club SilverHairsClub.com. We try to have our members organise one activity for other members once in a lifetime.
    .
    2. Who is in charge? Is there a committee?
*** Technically, we are activivity based. Each Event organiser or Event coordinator is in charge of the activity. Supporting members help out in the event. A full time committee is thus not required. Short term role playes volunteer from time to time.

    3. Is your Club registered?
*** We operate as a soccial seniors club. Just like a group of Karraoke singers, a regular group of golf playyers, a group of travel partners. Our members prefer this organisational format.

    4. What are you doing this for?
*** For me? It’s for the benefit for seniors who are looking for friends. Is there anyone who wants to be lonely? Look at the many small groups of friends that have surfaced as a result of finding friends from within SilverHairsCllub.

I enjoy meeting the friends I have met.

    5. How many members do you have now?
*** Some 3 years ago, I I stop counting. Some come and some go. Let’s just say a few thousands. The numbers are confidential.

    6. How do you verify the age if members sign up via online?
    *** We trust the member.

    7. I want to sign up right now. May I?
Yes, there is SMS, email, a QR scan and register, or go thrugh our website.

    8. I don’t have a computer/email address – how?
We require all members to have an email address. This is because we do not have members to man our membership process.

    9. I am a businessman. Can I offer discounts to your members?
Individual members may join as Corporate members. Corporate members can discuss with the Admin for corporate gifts and discounts.

    10. ?????, ??????????
(I dunno English…can you explain in Chinese?)

Feel free to ask any queestions, if you think the public will ask.

  2. Hi Terence

There’s an error in the duty roster. I’m only available to help on Sat, 27 July from 4 – 6 pm.

Pl delete my name on the Sunday slot from 6 – 8 pm.

    Thank you.

    Regards…..

    1. Thanks Geraldine. I have made the corrections. Good to have sharp eeyes around.
I am still short of a few people to man the booth on Sat or Sun. Can you take a session of two hours?

      Terence Seah

  3. Terence

Please register Boon Liang and me to hep out Judy Lim on Sunday, 28 from 1600 to 1800 hours.

We can only make it for this time slot. Hope this is fine with you.

  4. Geraldine/Boon Liang,

Oh yeah, I will not be the lone ranger to manage the booth.

Both of you the kind thoughts much appreciated.

    Thank you

    Judy

  5. Hi Terence
I believe your comment should be for this post :

Hi Dolly, Ah Nee, Caroline, Karen, RichardW, Frisna, Pearl, Lily,
Why are you not volunteering to man the booth for two hours during Expo “Life Matters”.
I have been waiting for you to raise your hand, on an event like thiss. It is important that the Club gets support from the senior members; and you are one of them.
We still have plenty of slots, so if you can put on your cap, a dresss and your name, let me know, and we shall put you into the schedule.
    Terence Seah
    – – – – – –
    My dear Terence,
Of course we will support our SHC monthly cycling activities.!

Dolly, Ah Nee, Lina, HC and I will be there on Sat morning. Our slot is from 9.30am to 12 noon. We will be there earlier as we hope to video our fellow cyclists who had special permission to cycle into the exhibition hall as part of the 1st day opening. (Max 6 cyclists allowed.) You were in the email loop so we assumed you knew.

As for other activities, you had told us old timers to take a backseat and to let the newbies take over. We are doing just that. We are good at taking instruction eh? I must say…. the backseat is very comfy. Thank you Terence.

    1. i Lily,
I am always pleased when I see interaction among members. Supporting the cycling activities. Giving opportunities for other members to take new roles is wisdom but it is equally important that senior members members support these members.

Membership drive is important to the growth of SilverHairsClub. I wish and hope to see members who have benefitted from being a member come forward to volunteer their services at the Booth.

  6. Hi Terence

I hear your call for helpers but I am already busy participating in one of the activities Daniel and you come up with in your poster…DO NOTHING.

  7. Hi Terence,
I had offered to fold flyers for you on Wed to Friday at home and that will be more than 2hrs work that I’ll put in to fold them. Since you live near me, its nearer for me to collect & return the flyers to you than me going to Suntec. My baby can also be in the car while I collect & deliver back to you.

Shall I collect the flyers from you tonite and return to you Friday nite?

  8. Hi Pearl,

Very nice thought. The first thing that strikes me is the baby. You have a baby?

Re the flyers, they will be available in reams, on fri 2.30pm. It is easy to fold at the booth, as there are bulky. Almost 10,000 flyers, not easy to transport around.

We can fold them at the booth E14.

    Ts

  9. Hi Tian Soo,

Daniel’s scrip in the flyer has caught your attention. That’s great. Just what he had in mind. Keep busy, and come along if you have some time. I see our booth will be busy. Would you like to bring one small chick to entertain the public or watch some worms coming up from a box of soil, and being pecked by the chick?

    Terence Seah

  10. Hahahaha, Tian Soo,
I like it when I cracked up in the morning like this. Your words and humour never fail to tickle my funny bone ….

  11. Terence

Yes, I sure would like to bring a small chick, who likes big worms. But at my age, I will be happy if I can get an old duck.
Forgive me, I am hyper from too many cups of coffee this morning.

  12. Organisers allow us up to 8.00 pm on Friday for us to prepare. Take a look at the guideline:

    Occupancy for shell scheme booths:
    •From 26 July (Friday) 9am –8pm

•Access to dress up booth on 27 & 28 July:
    8am –9.30am
-All stands must be ready by 9.30am on 27 & 28 July and no further set ups is allowed after 9.30am.
    •Tear-down Time: 28 July (Sun) 8pm –10pm
–Items not cleared by 10pm will be discarded

But you said we’ll be there from 2.30 pm – 5.00 pm only. How come? There are others who might want to help after 5.00 pm to fold the flyers – remember you have 10,000 flyers to fold. I dont think it’s a good idea to fold on the day of the exhibition – cannot do things kadang-kabut style OK boss?

    1. Susan and everbody.

      No Kadang kabut, No lah.

Everybody is free, see how fast our hands are.
I have asked someone to talk with a printer who can orint and machine-fold. If that is the case, then, we may not need to fold.

Can I ask for more help?
i need some help for someone who can pick up the overhead projector from my office at Telok Ayer Street. If anyone can pick up the projector and bring it along on Saturday around 0930am. This would be great. Let me know.

Also, if anyone has high white table tops, similar like those we use for Thai disco dancing, can borrow two tables. We have a small smooth, so cannot have too many high top tables. This is for people to chat around. Really, we cannot have chairs. no space to move. Even the chicks or the ducks cannot move around.

We like to create a friendly club environment.

      Terence Seah

  13. HI Everybody,

We now do not need to f fold our flyers. The English versioon will ll be completed by Friday morning. So, confirm, no folding required. Thank you.

    Terence Seah

  14. HI Terence & all.

I noticed that sunday 6pm onwards, there’s nobody manning the stall?

Judy’s slot is from 4-6pm. I plan to be there around this time, and can help out. Some of the drama team members will be there too.. i.e. if they’re able to squeeze out some time from their hectic schedule! HA.ha… Guys.. do turn up & support TienTien & ChiamChiam ok?

  16. So good to see so many hands raised just in a matter of one day. I believe we all want to make this a very successful event just like other events in SHC. Besides we can take this opportunity to talk about past, present and future activities. Also we are going to see many members whom we have lost touch.

See you on Sat n Sun @ Suntec.

  17. hi Terence I will be working on both days hence can’t fix a time that’s why didn’t raise my hand. thought just drop by. maybe I can help after 6pm either day.
ALL THE BEST! May the exercise bring lots of new active members!

  18. CALLING ALL members of the Men’s Night

Lets turn up in full force to support this event. Treat it as visiting another crazy Suntec Bazaar on a Saturday and/or Sunday, but this time with a better purpose. Spend a couple of hours there and we shall then have something to talk or laugh about at the next meeting.

Tian Soo, thank you for your interest in one of my suggested activities. Haha, honestly I like that too. But variety is the spice of life so lets try something different this weekend.

  19. Hi Theresa, Lydia, Frisna, Karen, Sally, Hew Lee, and members,

Thank you for responding to the call of support to help man the booth this Sat or Sun.
    Appreciated.

We still do need more support to meet all the passer-bys at our boooth. Please let me know if you can come to help out. Pass the word around to come and help.

Sam, I am very pleased to have your presence in the Club again. We are most pleased to see the clowny Sam again, but in the same old format.

Anybody game to bring a mahjong table and game set?

    Terence Seah

    1. Hi HelenK and members,

  22. Hi Terence,
Noticed that my name has pulled out from the slot on Saturday,
    July 27, 1000 – 1200 hours. Please advise.
    Thanks and regards

    Richard

      1. Re the Suntec show and membership drive, we have just enlarge and develop photgraphs to decorate the inside of the booth walls. Jasmine Teo is in charge of the internal decor, and shall arrange the photos on the wall.

The grandest picture is A1 size. I would have it AO size if the resolution was higher. All other pictures are A2 and A6 sizes. The pictures are from the recent Cabaret night, walking and cycling activities, monthly gatherings, some travel, fishing, sing, etc. Some date back 5 years ago.

If you like the pictures, please sign up and collect on Sunday 8pm.

        See you.

        Terence Seah

  23. Hi Terence,

    Please include me for Sat’s time slot, 27 Jul 1630 – 1830.
I have 2 other scheduled events this Saturday and will rush over to Suntec after my first event.

See you all on Saturday! Cheers,

    may woo

  24. Harlow Terence,
I volunteered for the Sat slot at 4 to 6 pm. I said I would try to go earlier if I can to help out in the 2 -4 slot on Sat . I think you got me mixed up with somebody else. I can’t be in charge of the booth at the 2-4 pm slot.

  25. Aiyoh Terence,
Your number of helpers on Sunday is pathetic. I can’t promise you what time I can be there to help out but I will try to be there sometime in the afternoon between 2 to 6 pm.

  26. “Three angels appeared and their dedication
Helped complete the work to our satisfaction.”

Heartfelt thanks to Yoon Chin, Goh Ah Lam and Thomas Lau for their invaluable help in decorating the booth today. :)
Thanks, Terence, for the delicious snacks and drinks. We had a meaningful time at the booth. :)

      1. Hi everybody,

Here is the estimate count of our permformance on Sunday.

        Printed flyers: 10,000 copies.

        From 10am to 9.00pm,
        Helpers distributed 1,800 copies,
Email responded to be members 550
SMS responded to be members 120
Record on guest book – unaccounted.
Register on website – unknown yet.

The results are excellent. Now, it is how we attract the new members to our activities and participation.

        Terence Seah

  27. NOT bad huh?
I’ve emailed to my (eligible) friends telling them to visit our booth.
    Please tell your friends too.
There are other exhibitions – a Travel Fair if I am not wrong.
    See u at Suntec today.

  28. Job fair too! Signed up for After Life arrangements (iya funeral la) to. Wah got such thing as “Boutique” funeral, everything looks very pretty no need to be scared. Payment through insurance policies no need cash.

  29. The official photographer at Taipei Night, Boaz, will be there from 4.00 pm. See if you can grab him to take nice pretty handsome photos that will capture lively happy faces cos it’s not everyday that he’ll be with us. Hmmmmm, now where’s my pretty eye lashes and wig gone to?

  30. For the helpers who don’t mind tapping on their mobile data it will be helpful to give visitors a better insight into what they see in SHC online which you can access from your mobile Internet. Takes only a few seconds to access our website but think of how fast and many more will be recruited.

  31. And Thomas Lau our origami master has done a mammoth task folding 1000+ beautiful origami models as free gift for visitors. And as of now he is still folding!

Well some helpers refused at first to give away to visitors but then went home with a few pieces themselves for their grandchildren! Helpers, appreciate your teamwork and support to give out the origami models free to visitors – this is part of the overall plan to entice more sign ups. Thank you very much.

  32. Insurance War

Company 1 – We protect you from childhood to coming of age.
Company 2 – We serve you from toddler to toothless
Company 3 – We nurse you from pregnancy to palliative
Company 4 – We treat you from womb to tomb
Company 5 – We watch you from ejaculation to resurrection

    Life matters, indeed !

  33. Wow, my cycling King YK, thanks for sharing!

I would think the staff should not put other stuff on the sample table; unprofessional, indeed.

It should be presented with no clutter; this final stage of our lives should be a dignified affair. My late dad’s send off was simple and dignified and for that, we were very pleased amidst our sorrow and felt at peace.

  34. Very happy to meet up with old frens (whom I thought had abandoned or did not wish to see me), meeting new ones and doing my part as a member to help to recruit.

Equally great to see members showing up and doing their part to get more new members. Awesome!

Hopefully those who left their contact will join us and be active in our club. We need new blood to add creativity and excitement.

  35. If things go well, we shall see at least a thousand new profiles on this blog. To the visitors who are now browsing — WELCOME to SilverhairsClub forum page.

Register as a member now and join our activities.

  36. Hi Friends,
If you are new to our Silverhairsclub you may like to view one of our activities – our annual dinner & dance. I have upload last year D&D video of the Arabian Nite Dressing and Bellydance Competition and special performance by Veronique and our Indonesian guest. Click below hyperlink to view video on Youtube, Cheers.. Bobby

  37. Hi everybody,

Many of the new members need help to learn about the culture of SilverHairsClub. Others need to know how to participate in activities or even to organise one. They need guidance. From experience, Singapore SilverHairs can take between 1 week to a few years to understand what SilverHairsClub is all about.

If you like to help the newer members, and can guide them towards benefitting from SilverHairsClub, let me know and I shall assign at least one new member to you to follow up with.
