Share with us any inconvenience that may have caused you by the fire at a telco’s facility.

Thousands of end users were caught by surprise the unexpected inconvenience caused to them after a fire broke out at the telco’s exchange station on Wednesday, 9 Oct 2013.  Businesses lost their customers and takings for the day; punters missed their winning opportunites; subscribers scrambled for connectivity with their friends; lovers, friends etc missed their dates or were late for appointment.

Where were you and what were you doing at the time when the disruption began?  How did you adjust to the inconvenience?

Read my comments on my story.

  1. Hi May.. where is your story? How do we access it?

Fortunately, I was not affected by it at all .. but I can fathom the inconveniences it would have caused me. When my phone battery runs flat when I’m outside, I already feel cut off from the world ! HA..ha…

  2. Hi Lydia, thank you for being the first to comment.

Here comes my story and not so bad la. My friends were grumbling so much, some called their telcos incessantly to check and complained. I only called my telco on Day 2 evening. We have 4 users at home and I’m the only one who cannot connect to the mobile network. Less than a week ago, I switched to the same service provider as my family members’ to enjoy 25% discount on phone bills.

    DAY 1 – 9 Oct 2013 (Wed)
I was working happily at the comfort of my home when I realised that my laptop was lagging at close to 4 pm. I said to myself…. this time must really replace this old machine liao. I have been using it for a few years and it is probably time for a replacement. My land line was down so I phoned my neighbour with my new mobile line.
My neighbour told me in an embarrassed tone that all her internet related equipment at home had suddenly stopped working due to non-payment. We chatted for a while as my son stepped home. I asked him to check the wifi connection but he didn’t take any action. He said it was no use as there was a fire at the phone exchange base that afternoon. Called my neighbour again, called my friends, called my sister, etc in case they can’t reach me and would be wondering what had happened to me. I prefer to talk.
It was a peaceful evening for me the next few hours – no watsapp messages, no phone calls (mobile and landline), no web surfing. My mobile network also died that night.

    DAY 2 – 10 Oct (Thu)
Still no connectivity, so I decided to step out to work instead of waiting for the signals to light up. At workplace, the only consolation I have was that I could tap on some weak mobile network signals, use the office phone to make contacts, etc. But it had been very exhausting for me to do finger typing on the small phone screen and cramped sized keyboard. Went home, skipped dinner and went to bed at 9pm.

    DAY 3 – 11 Oct (Fri)
Hurray! The system was up early in the morning. I decided to share my little story and also to be a little kay-poh to out how badly affected that some of you had been. I live in the north and many homes & offices were badly affected.
Today, I worked like a dog as we have an event tomorrow morning.

Hope to hear from some of you, soon.
    Regards, may
