  1. Hi Yew Kwong,

    Will be there for cycling.

Ronald Wie, Put on your skates but you cannot go far OK. Eileen has appointed you to be her personal coach. You want to take in some more new learners? And please remember to carry your own slippers!

  2. Hi Yew Kwong,
I would like to join in the cycling, but I’m a beginner and can only wobble, so I will definitely be left behind. Any other newbies like me? Then I will at least have some company.

  3. Janet Loo,
you gotta be kidding. Tandem bike? Who’s going to be the one controlling the bike if both can’t ride? I much prefer to wobble on my own.
Anyway, we can keep each other company while the rest is zooming ahead. See you there.

  4. Haha! Mary@9

Tandem bike is quite something… who’s controlling the brakes and who’s doing the pedalling?? And can you control the steering, too?

I bet Tim would love to ride with you and watch you wobble on the tandem!!

  5. Kenneth @ 10

No wori abt who’s taking control of the brakes. Wen riding on a tandem bike, the front one steers n the back one pedals. U c braking is consensous n automatic. Wen the need arises, both pairs of legs will automatically hit the ground. LoL.

  6. Kenneth @ 10
helo..u very naughty!..how can u let Mary & Janet wobble, u shud come & ride beside them & give some support lah..

Anybody wanna try the pasir ris connector b4 4pm session?, we can start earlier, cycle & recky this new route & end at MacD..for those not joining the CNY lunch
    Douglas will lead us rite?

  7. Oy Kenneth, you cheeky fella. Perhaps you could lend a hand? (On the handle bar I mean)

No tandem for me. Want to be able to see where I’m going. Don’t want to see only somebody’s back.
So I will wobble my way.

Incidentally, I tried riding a few weeks ago and fell twice, bruising my left ankle. Hope I don’t fall again. So ‘paiseh’, hehehe. I think the bike was too tall for me.Think I will come with knee guards, ankle guards, elbow guards… what other guards are there?

Then if I still can’t manage it, I will ride tandem with you ok? ;-) Hahaha.

  8. YK, yes, please, I’m coming. Cya!

MaryC, serious, you will also need a bottom guard because without it you’ll feel like a roti prata after 3 hours on the machine. And some ghee too to reduce the friction. We’ll also be stopping at the jetty, so is the bodyguard proposed by YK @16 above meant for this? or for some other purposes?

Norlinda, if you are thinking of the Connector to Pasir Ris, we’ll have to start at 1pm, 2pm! How, I have low melting point, leh.

  9. Hi Yew Kwong,

Unable to join this Sat. After tim sum lunch, got to go to my nephew’s birthday party. Will join u next cycling session.

Ronald Wie, Appreciate u being my personal coach for cycling. Am blessed. Am afraid that after absent from cycling for 1 month, my fear might crept in again. Cos I have to start all over again with balancing & controlling of d handles without falling.

Mary Chan, U r not alone. U hv company. There r few ‘L’ plate learners. I am one of them.

    Cheers, Eileen

  10. Haha, John Howe. I have never been that long on a bike to get a ‘roti prata’ bottom. I’ll see if I can find a cushion small enough to bring along. ;-)

  11. MaryC, On my 1st lesson on 19 Jan. I was screaming loudly once the bike starts moving. I wore elbow & knee guards but not head & body guards…Be a bit kiasu.

No pain no gain! I got aching arms, thighs & backache d next couple of days later. Well, I believe once the’L’ plate is off, I’ll be on d road to victory. Tnks to all my coaches in advance…

    Cheers, Eileen

  12. Lina,

We make sure Nor don’t “sebok” carry Ronald Wie’s Flintstone slippers. Ronald Wie, if you ask us to “tongpan” your slippers, we will throw them into the sea…ha…ha…ha….

Wow! Terence first time cycling with us, thats interesting & exciting..Wei wei Tim, you should come also, very good execise for your heel.

Andrew, how are you feeling now, still not recovering huh..you take care ok. :)

    Ah Nee

  13. Hi Ron Wie,

Ah Nee, lets have some pity on Ron lah! He’s doing a good job teaching new cyclists so I will volunteer to look after your slippers. How about that?

  14. Ah Nee, still the same: “recovering but not totally”.

This Sat cannot come to the DimSum and cycling is because I’ve another appointment, not because sick. I’ll take good care of myself. Thanks for your caring.

    Andrew

  15. Lina, as much as where you get the best pork cutlet from, it has to be from a hog (and not from a dog). So the best sun visor has to come from the sun.

    Too hot to handle?

Nvm, try the next best……..Terence’s young son isnt as hot, try him..he has many sun visors with his dad’s favourite donald duck printed on them.

  16. Hi cycling kaki

Nor#13- can we start off at 8am so that we could have ample rest as I would like to attend the monthly cycling meeting and join Yew Kwong for dinner.

Along the way to Pasir Ris, We will enter and try the Tampines Mountain Bike Trail.

Meeting Pt: 7.45am-Bus Stop beside Tanah Merah Mrt Stn,going towards Airpor

    Who are coming

  17. Good morning Yew Kwong,

Pls include Susan & Molly in the attendance list, they said they are coming.

    Lina,
Remember to bring the gloves I bought for you. Btw what you mean by sun visor (without the crown), I will bring my Visor for you if you want to put on. I prefer my sun-glasses leh.

    Ah Nee

  18. Yew Kwong, me coming? Caroline, beh sai come meh… come lah.. after dat, we can hv loh hei dinner leh.. since we cant make it for lunch loh hei mah.. rite.. Lily….

  19. Hi Ah Nee,

The sun visor is similar to the one you have, but can’t find it here. Maybe not looking at the right places. It’s useful in addition to sunglasses if the sun is strong.

Don’t bother to bring it, if it is just to lend me. Will remember to bring the gloves. Thank you..

Look forward to cycling with Molly and Susan.

Tim #27, Thank you for your wonderful suggestion but don’t remember Terence bringing his son leh!!

  20. Lina @ #32

    Remember…

Ride with your head bare to turn back the brain’s biological clock and reverse the effects of dementia and memory loss.

Use the type of sports visor without the crown. Cheap, good and easily available. Streamlined enough to ride. Other than the brain, try to wrap-up and keep as much skin protected from the ageing and damaging effects of the sun. If you are riding you won’t feel hot.

    For more see http://silverhairsclub.com/2008/02/1449

  21. Wei wei Yew Kwong,

I have a suggestion where to go for dinner & “Loh Hei” after the cycling. We can book “Seafood Station” at 887, East Coast Road (former Singa Inn, where the Golf driving range situated). That place have ample parking lots and is still at East Coast, so we don’t have to move around much. Food is OK, I have celebrated my father & mother birthdays there twice. How?

    Ah Nee

  22. Lina, what do you want..Terence’s son’s sun visor or Terence’s son?

If it’s the first, Terence can bring on his son’s behalf; if the latter, well, Terence will bring his son and the little boy’s sun visor becomes incidental and most likely, a non event.

Terence reading, get yr son ready to fly in…………must wear long pants not rubber waist-band shorts, to look more an adult. Ok that valentimne’s day is 2 days past on the sunny 16th.

  23. Lina @ #25

They use to give sports visors free at company
events, exhibitons and other public events.

See “headwear/caps & visors” in this on-line catalog
    http://www.apparelcatalog.net/

    Their website is here
    http://www.6express.sg/
They have an office at #01-22 Parklane Shopping Centre at 35 Selegie Road tel 6397 7377

Try them and let me know if there are better sources.

I am looking for the range with solar owered accessories like fan and radios for the flea market.

  24. Hi Yew Kwong/KT,

Thanks for the info on sports visor. Will check it out.

Tim, No need for Terence’s son anymore lah. I know where to find it already!!

  25. Ah Nee @ 36

I shall lv e booking 2 U. Will gv U e head count by Fri morn.

Tentatively, we can cfm booking for 1 table. If more than 1 table but less than 2, we will book extra seats 4 those 2 sit outside while waiting 2 form another table. Tks.

  26. Hi Yew Kwong,

???????? Veronique and I have embarked on a “built-up” regime. We start with the CNY Dim Sum lunch then straight to cycling. After melting down the kalories, we continue with the eating. Please count us in for both cycling and dinner. Eat, exercise and be merry! As to putting some meat on me, ummm…she can keep trying ;)

Cycling kakis, see you all again!

  27. Hi Steven,

Glad to hear from you, welcome back…..you want to join us this Sat cycling follow by “loh hei” dinner? To update you, remembered we used to cycle to the end of NSRCC golf course, now there is the new cycling connector that link right to Changi village & Pasir Ris. Come & see for yourself, its very interesting, See you. :)

    Ah Nee

  28. Hi Yew Kwong and others,

    Miss all of you greatly.

I will there for cycling and dinner to make up for lost time.
Thanks and a belated “Gong Xi Fatt Choy” to all of you.
    Steven Chan

  29. “Lo Hei” Ride (88 kim)

Rene will lead one long (I think it will be the longest) distance ride from East Coast Park rite up to Changi (location of Air Show) at 3 p.m. If U are keen please meet at usual place n join her.

  31. Welcome AndrewK, Nor and Charles……

Calling all those who have indicated their interests in ‘Riding Passion’ –

Alicia Soh, Ah Nee, Joyce Tan, Dennis Wee, Terence Seah (our MM) , Tim Liu, Lina Ng, Daisy Phua, Margie, Boon Liang and any others from this thread.

16 Feb cycling is a time to shed off your extra kilos after those CNY goody cookies.
Those who are attending CNY Dim Sum lunch, we shall proceed to ECP after the lunch to meet the rest (those not lunching at Fortunate Restaurant) at MacDonald. Thereafter, rent a bike and we shall speed off at 3:15pm latest, all the way to Changi Beach/Village and be back on time for those who want to join Yew Kwong’s group for dinner.

Preferably, put on your glove and a helmet (if you have, is optional). Maybe, pamper for those who want extra cushion for the 3 hours rider (depending on the group speed)

Thanks Lau Tar for putting up an Ad on my behalf.

23/24 Feb Airshow cycling will be on separate posting.

    Cya!
    Happy riding

  32. “Calling all those who have indicated their interests in ‘Riding Passion”

Thanks Rene, for remembering me tho a wee bit inaccurately insofar as my riding prowess is concerned.

My riding passion started after attending a yearlings sale in the late 80s…..

I was too old & too heavy then to ride professionally, neither was my balance good enough the make the amateur ranks.

Sure, if you want me to show off whatever little I hv in riding, 16 Feb can be a good day. also to shed off my remaining kilos after recent weight plunge in tandem with the STI index…..

Preferably, I wont put on gloves and a helmet but carry my persuader (whip) and wear a skull-cap.

Yes, i am prepared to choong chu jiang hu………but first, please find me the stable to rent a horse, preferably not a filly but a mare………only then, it’s “Happy riding”…………..

  33. Dear YK and Arn Ee (sounds like calling ah yee or auntie in the latter),

Just received a msg from the Red Cross. After wishing me HNY & H Birday, they ask me to “join us at the Bloodbank@HSA on 16/2..join us to save lives….”

So this Saturday, they’re coming for my blood so I am spoilt for choices, and wont decide till that day, me my blood & all to the most volutuous suitor…..auntie or missy.

Seriously, pls let me – the “fun fool shoo zi” – decide on that day, can?

  34. Hi all

    #28
due poor response,Feb 16 early morning ride its now cancelled. instead we meet for the:

    “Lo Hei” Ride (x km)
I will be there @2.30pm for shop talk with those coming early for the ride starting at 3pm. see u

  35. Dear Rene

Thank you for initiating the “Lo Hei” ride – challenging, manageable and full of fun.

    Cheers,

    Andrew

PS: If I am serious about cycling as part of my exercise regime or cycling fellowship (if travelling permits), might consider to invest in one good bike.

  36. Hi Rene,

Thank you for taking us on the longest ride. It was great to have the company of Dennis W, Boon Liang, Charles, Andrew and Douglas.

Charles, thank you for letting me ride your bike.

  37. Helo Rene/Douglas..tks for leading

Alamak AhNee & me kena left behind..then don really know the way,we just agak-agak brave ourselves to look for the rest.So we thot we hv accomplish our journey only knowing Charles said we completed only half the journey when we ‘blakang pusing’ from Changi Ferry Terminal!..apa lah?hehe..sori guys

Nonetheless its quite an enjoyable good ride, on the way back we met Jade all alone lost at one of the rest kiosk…kesian!

Nice meeting u Andrew Kuan..next time boleh jalan lagi lah.
Very glad to have u back Steven Chan, pls join us in the coming activities..we are all with u buddy!

  38. Hello Nor,

Changi Ferry Terminal is at Changi village hawker centre wat, why, we didn’t complete the journey huh? Apa macam, yesterday I was very amaze and happy….now must try again at our next cycling event. No wonder Lina said, wow! you so clever huh…so fast you reach changi village already…….hello, then where are we huh, we saw the signboard pointing to Changi Ferry Terminal leh. Nor, on the way back, we met Joyce Tan, not Jade. Jade is coaching the ‘L’ plate learner. Anyway, I enjoyed cycling with you guys & gals, especially yesterday’s “lo hei” ride, very challenging and fun. :)

    Ah Nee

  39. Ya lah, Im also puzzled?but thats what Charles said to me.
Alamak, sori Joyce Tan,got u mixed up with Jade!so paiseh

Anyway, Lina adviced we better not go this thursday cos its too far & really ‘terok’?
Perhaps we can try another time, when my pamelo tak sakit!

  40. Hi Nor/Ah Nee,

That long distance cycling took us nearly 4 hours (with rests in between), and that was not exactly a slow leisurely ride! So it is a rather tough journey unless you are quite fit.

But with just 3 girls, not too safe in case something happens. Better to cycle with a bigger crowd. So we better do something on Thursday if you are on leave. Ah Nee, more housework?

Ron Wie, Sorry I abandoned you early and so did not help you carry your slippers. Anyway, see you on 7/3 for Chinese?

  41. Hi cycling kakis,

It was so good to see all of you once again. I am blessed to have such caring and understanding family of friends in SHC community.

You sure made my day and thanks for welcoming me back.

I must say I am still a bit “quiet” ( not my normal cheerful self) as I had not been fully recovered yet.

  42. Andrew Kuan..

Jangan pakai bahasa yg ‘alien’ lah..saya pun kurang faham, simple or kampong malay boleh ok :)tku terima kaseh.Jumpa lagi lain kali!

  43. AndrewK, Boon Liang, Charles, DennisW, Douglas and Lina.

Thank you all for your support and participation in my first ‘long distance ride’ lead. It was encouraging to see this has generated some interests and wish that more enthusiastic riders will not be deterred by ‘bike issues’ and the distance. There’s a Will, there’s a Way! We will wait for you.

3 cheers to ourselves for completing the ride and look forward to more refreshing experience to different paths and places together with all of you.

Watch Out for the next destination in ‘Riding Passion’

    Ah Nee and Nor,

Regret that you girls have been left behind or ahead of us. It really puzzled me? Lina told me you 2 were behind trying to catch up but Nor, you called me that you are at Changi Ferry Terminal without passing us. There is only one PCN, how could we miss each other? You and Ah Nee fly like ET?

  44. Hi all

Changi Ferry Terminal and Changi Point Ferry Terminal are two different location.

The 7 of us were at the Changi Point Ferry T. which is near Changi Village while Nor and Ah Nee were behind us at Changi Ferry Terminal. They were about 10-15mins behind us and we thought they were actually ahead of us.
    regards

  45. Hello Douglas & Rene,

I am determining to make it the next round. Nor you must agree also huh. Thanks for the clarification of the 2 Ferry Terminals. Rene, I wish I can fly like ET….can overcome all the obstacles…he…he…he… but can’t resist the famous “Nasi Lemak” stall at Changi Village leh. Will Watch Out for the next destination in ‘Riding Passion’. see you, all the cyclist kakis. :)

    Ah Nee

  46. BTW, Rene and others who took pictures of our ardent journey to the “extreme” East of Singapore last Saturday, 16 Feb:

Please post the pictures for all to appreciate the long journey from MacD to CV.

  47. AndrewK and Lina,

Boon Liang has forwarded our pics to YK couple of days ago and is awaiting for YK to sort it before uploading.

Excited to see the Magnificent 7?

    Cheers
    Rene

  48. Hello Douglas, Rene & riders of 16 Feb,
Yes, photos was send out to YK on Monday nite. Choto! Our friend is bz and may take a while to load the pics for all to see.
Meanwhile, I believed Rene & Douglas can’t wait to see more passionate riders to join in, the more the merrier. Dennis would agree, right>|?

  49. boonliang.#98, the venue/time for this sat’s ride was change due to logistic reason.furthermore, I think its more convenience to meet at McDonald so kakis can (1)rent bike (2)make a U turn back to Mcdonal if the distance is too far to cover.

    regards

  50. Terima Kasih, Magnificent 7

Saw the email version – beautiful people in exotic pictures with excellent sceneries.

Will wait for Terence to upload to the SHC site.

  51. Douglas…u mean we were only 10-15mins behind?so close & yet so far!never get to take photos,no nasi lemak makan2 & all
and very ‘jealous’ that we din get the title Magnificent7!sob!sob!

We were left behind bcos..when we were abt to start, ahnee suddenly wanna join after some pestering from me…then she ‘buay tahan’ quickly start renting bike lah..put on her other attire & all getting ready & equip for the ‘maiden’long ride..alas!by that time, u all sudah jalan..hhhmmm kesian we kena left behind.

Nvm..ahnee next time must cepat jalan & bring our own camera..just incase we kena left out again..we can stop & take our own photos!..haha

  52. Nor,

We are only 10-15 mins behind, should have continue the journey to achieve the Magnificent 7 /9 title hor. Sob..sob..but then we wasn’t sure of the direction mah. Nor, shall we send our individual photo to Boon Liang, ask him to cut and paste to make it Magnificent 9!…ha..ha…

    Ah Nee

  53. Wow Ah Nee & Nor, you both boleh hor….
can cycle such long distance. Luckily, I didn’t go, if not next day sure pengsan.
Did you all wear pamper? as recommended by YK..ha.ha..

  54. Suzhang, actually never under estimate yourselves..c like ahnee after i pushed her butt then she wanna jalan..she also surprise she almost made it!
hey! next round we go together & be Super10!

Today I very malas..at home whole day sleeping, lazing around watching TV,now American Idol ,cakap2 in this forum..hhhmm!what a life!..shiok! hehe
Tom going VivoCity to catch “Ps I love you” with my daughter!

  55. Hi Nor/AhNee #02,#04

You are right,it about another 15mins ride from Changi Ferry Terminal to Changi Point Ferry Terminal. You were almost there lor but not there hor, but don’t fret,we go another time ya

Lina told you to proceed to the hawker center where we had our drinks and in front of that popular nasi lemak stall.

We didn’t have time to eat becos our EO Rene keep looking at her watch. Thanks Rene for initiating the ‘Lo Hei’ ride.

Lina, on behalf of everyone, thanks for the drinks,I can’t remember who paid for the curry puff though but thanks anywhere.

    Suzhang#05&#06
What Nor said is true, don’t under-estimate urself, you’ll have been there and done that if you give urself a chance to try it
