Have passport will ride, Sat 12 April 2008- UPDATE

Hi Terence and all bike lovers,

There are some  bike lovers from SHC who feel cycling once a month is not enough. To these group of bike lovers, how about cycling from Tg Pengarang to Kg Sungei Rengit.  emoticonThis route will brings us back to nostalgic era of 1960s Singapore. emoticon     It could be an unforgettable and a memorable ride for some of us. The trill and joy will be rewarded at journey’s end.  The atmosphere will always be remembered for a long time.  The return journey is about 36km,  emoticon  a distance slightly less than from McDonald @ECP to Changi Village and back.

Upon arrival at Sungei Rengit, we may have seafood for lunch, walk around the town, maybe buy some dry seafood products or freshly baked tau sar piah.  emoticon   Sungei Rengit to Dasaru is but a short distance. emoticon

    1. Douglas….I’m with you all the way to Tg Pengarang. Thanks for organising this trip. Perhaps after this journey, next trip go further to Desaru. (overnite) Ya?

    2. Hi Douglas,

Thanks for organising… if you don’t mind my speed, please count me in. Don’t want to miss out the thrill and joy of riding on a different land.

      Cheers / Joyce

    3. Hi Douglas,

Tentatively, 2 of us will join you guys. Will reconfirm closer to date. Rental bikes are required.

Pls advise whether full gear is required, e.g. helmet, gloves, goggles, etc. Any other requirements?

What will happen if, touch wood, tyre is punctured? Are there any bike shops along the way to have it repaired?

      Cheers.

    4. Hi Douglas,

I am not one of the magnificent7 & Super7, but very keen to join you all leh…….don’t want to miss this thrilling experience lor. Hello, Rene, Lina, Norlinda…..ai join mai? Joyce, you must guide me hor, first time cycle with passport wan, a bit scare leh. What to bring huh?…..what happen if tyre punctured huh?Alamak! the boat ride take 50 mins huh….don’t know can take it or not.

      Ah Nee

    5. Hi Ah Nee,

Bus ride for 15 mins., you can’t even manage, so how to handle the boat ride for 50 mins..

As for me, I will have to think about it first.

    6. Hi Ah Nee,

Tell you what is good in Tg.Pengarang. Seafood – lobsters, and a lot of delicious food. So boat sick nevermind, cos got rewards in the end.

    7. Lina, so got yummy food..you want to join or not? I think I can overcome the motion sickness by taking a lot of dried gingers. But hor, I wonder if we have to carry the bicycle up & down the boat…what if the water so choppy & the bicycle so heavy….aiyo, I better don’t think so much…want to join , just go lah.

      Ah Nee

    8. Hi Ah Nee,

Aiyoh, you worry unnecessary. Got so many macho man to help you carry the bicycle. Don’t stress yourself out lah. Just pretend that you are fainting and they sure to carry for you.

I went there when I was a kid and was amazed to see black chickens running about. Got lots of good food but don’t expect to do shopping there, OK. I am going to think long and hard before I decide.

    9. Heh Ah Nee and Lina:

When you have experienced travelling in BMW, you will be able to handle all kinds of physical challenges and your dimensions/paradigms soar. You would understand your physical bodies better.

With BMW – Bus, Mrt and (brisk distance) Walking plus luxuries CD (car and being driven)real-life experience, your perspectives and life journey of serendipity move from good, better to GREAT.

In the past, I cannot sit on a bus for ten minutes or even find travelling in MRT strenuous though I exercised (then) twice a week.

Now, I would take bus to KL/PJ instead of driving, using the white space while travelling to listen/learn new and fresh things.

Take opportunities to experience life-long BMW CD, you will find the world is so much bigger, wonderful and hilarious beyond the 700 sq km.

    10. Hi Andrew,

I am fine travelling by BMW. Can go on the cockscrew roller coaster. Not a problem for me. So Ah Nee, we go lelong car at Flea Market as advised by KT. Want or not?

Bring your car there after your tennis match OK. And say goodbye to your car for the last time. Will be waiting for you.

Andrew, great to plan your time well and make maximum use of it when travelling.

    11. Andrew, I am much better than before, at least I can sit in MRT quite comfortably but have phobia in taking Bus ride, so I try to avoid it. Lina, why you have to think long and hard before you decide? Go there and catch black chickens for brewing “Herbal Chicken Soup” lah.
My “Lau Pok Car” still can bring me around, so don’t want to lelong yet. I will change my car when I strike TOTO or 4-D…he..he..he…

      Ah Nee

    12. Ah Nee,

Having read your comments, I am very amused with its content.

Initially when I read this posting my first reaction was “WOW not bad, back to yesterdays – very good leh .. kampong style” but I only have “L” plate license!; not sure qualify or not to complete the journey. Besides it surely sound VERY INTERESTING and DEFINITELY NOT TO BE MISSED.

You are “licensed” to ride yet you have so much thinking to do.

Would it do you any good if I join you as well and together with Joyce accompany/guide me along? That would make three (3) slow riders as a small company – how about that?

At any point of time should any of us “faint” I am sure the macho guys around us will be ready to assist us…. right Guys?

Douglas, I am for it, please add me to your list and I will need to rent a bicyle.

      Thanks, Grace Kok

    13. Hi Douglas

I will join u and the others.
r u using ur own bike? Wen u mentioned return journey 36km, wat abt going there, another 36km?

Boon Liang: r u using ur own bike?

      Cheers, Dennis

    14. Hi Grace kok,

Good ! u join us, so I am not alone. It should be very fun I think…..touring the kampong area by bicycle instead of by coach or bus. Some more hor, got yummy seafood leh!

      Ah Nee

    15. My O Mine! Douglas, how R???…got slow riders already thinking of fainting and tyre punctures before sailing. Luckily no one mentioned about wearing floats on them and on their bicycles. Guess we have to get a few more season riders or sub-contract a few bangladeshi to carry bicycles for these wobblies!! Hehe

    16. Hi Ah Nee at #14

Taking Singapore air-cond buses is safe and clean. Put on your MP3, you will be as youthful, bright and lively like any 20 somethings.

      Relive your maiden days!

Cycling along countryside in Tg Pengarang and Kg Sungei Rengit will be fine and fun.

    17. Hi

Sounds fun and adventurous, would really like to join. But then second thoughts, have not ridden a bicycle for abut 20 years to and fro about 72 km, can make it or not (I am thinking to myself)? Have to think long and hard before can say yes, yah?

      sb

    18. Dennis @ 17

I think return journey 36km means e distance to n fro is 36km in total.

      Hi Gals

Nid not 2 wori so much. Go n njoy. Lv all e wori 2 be killed by sumptous lobster, chilly crab, pepper crab, fresh fish, picking duck, salted chicken meals wif delicious durian chendol dessert n some glasses of red wine b4 we head home.

    19. YK,

      Thanks for the encouragement.

I could buy leaving the worries behind but having “so much seafood and wine” – not sure if we could make the return homebound journey? If we do end up “ma bok” quite likely you and other able bodies may have to piggy back some of us and our bicyles home …. :D

I am sure both Ah Nee and I would certainly look forward to that day of enjoyment and laughter …. hee hee :)

      Cheers, Grace Kok

    20. Sound interesting. Nee/Lina – I am coming too. Sue come and join us aimai. Got good and cheap food I guess. Dont forget must bring ringgit also.

Doug – I need rental bike.

      Tks
      Molly

    21. Si lor, Molly, me oso sum yok yok liao.. i 1 2 go leh.. but cant cfmed nw lor cos still on consultn on skin sensitive prob lor but c-ing improvement liao..

So Doug, can cfm ltr bo?, say like aft D&D aisai bo?

But hor, y rental bike in SG har, pengerang, bo bike rental meh.. i remembered c-ing bicycle rental shop leh last yr wen i was there 2 pray lor.. maybe, bic is SG beta condition lor.. sori, abit ks, balancing act no good so scared scared lor…

Weiwei, Grace, i hor, not so wori abt mabok.. but hor.. wori abt …. i tink hor.. must cushion wif adult pamper liao.. tio bo?

    22. Dolly,

This will be my very 1st time going on long distance (as compared to the monthly EC strip). If you think adult pampers are required, I will try to borrow …. :D

      Cheers, Grace Kok

    23. Hi Douglas

Thanks for initiating this long distance ride. Hv heard about you but hv not met you. You seems like some very sporty guy, still so fit to go long distance – and even exploring overseas… that’s good !

I am not a good cyclist and considered slow as compared to Nor, Ah Nee, Rene & Lina. I fell in Ubin (though not serious) before so kinda of phobia when comes to strange new places. Ubin was my 1st experience cycling on muddy ground. Guess I hv to learn to adapt while there….slowly but surely.

Lina, why ? I thought Ah Nee already can’t hold a candle to you when comes to cyling. So why must still think twice ? and I heard you’ve got a new mountain bike… wow & an expensive one…. So the more you must bring it there to try out lah…. It’s me that hv to think hard before deciding. Molly, I heard you….guess if I go, you better stay close to me…don’t be like the last time, zoomed so fast & disappear. Anything happened also don’t know…Hey, will hv to piggy bag all our barang-barang behind our back during cycling ah?.. or is there a place or locker for us to put our stuffs ? Guess hv to stick mozzie patches all over me and bring extra clothings like the last time…hmm….. still hv time to think about it, but Douglas, can tentatively put in my name ? Programme sounds interesting so am quite tempted to join in the fun.

Boon Liang, if you’re going to get a Bangladeshi to help with bicycle & stuffs, I really don’t mind to share with you..he.he..

      Thanks,
      Suzhang

    24. Halo! all my cycling buddies,

Lai ah lai leh! this trip is very adventurous and thrilling wan you know. Dolly & Grace, no need wear pampers, we are not going for long distance ride, I hope so, this trip hor, macam holiday tour. In this case, no shopping, but it will be cycling, eating , viewing and chasing after kampong chickens. Lina may want to catch some black kampong chickens to bring back Singapore for brewing “Herbal Chicken Soup”. Molly, I told Sue to join already, but she not “sum yok yok” leh. Also Lina must think very hard, don’t know have to think about what? This morning when I told Norlinda, she quickly mark her calendar liao….. Lina, Lily, Sue and the rest, stop thinking, register yourself pls..he…he….he…its gonna be fun under the Sun, Sea, Sand… :)

      Ah Nee

    25. ANee dear, hv 2 wear cushion just in case la for me n grace lor.. pengerang definitely not so smooth as ECP hor.. 36km 4 u hor wet2 h20 lah but 4 me, bo siang mah.. nyway.. will join if i can la… pampers or no pampers lor.. tio bo.. Grace… :)

Sue, no scared no scared, u got me.. haf pass 6 2 tag along mah even Molly zoom2 all d way la.. :)

    26. Dolly,

I do quite agree with Ah Nee for not having the pampers.

At 36 km, this is approximately 12 x the length of our regular ride from bicycle kiosk to Bedok Jetty. I think (hopefully)I can make it without the pampers. Being a slow rider, at the worst, either walk or pull the bicycle along lah … hee hee :D.

      Cheers, Grace Kok

    27. Hi Ah Nee / Grace,

As compare to the regular guys (eg. Boon Liang), women generally not up to their standard. Douglas is a good organiser, guess he would arrange to have the ladies taken care of.

Douglas, forgot to mention that i need a rented bike too.

      Thanks/Regards, Joyce

    28. Hi Doug, like to go for the lobsters, (main attraction, heard they are fresh, cheap and good) so 36km may not be enough to burn up the calories. Need a rented bike. Thanks

    29. Hello Douglas, you pergi mana? MIA huh ! all the cyclist so excited, so many Qs but no As. I hope we can rent bicycle at Tg Pengarang and not at Changi village. Whatever the case, I need to rent a bike. Lina, I bring my bicycle rack for you this Sat, so no excuse of not going to Tg Pengarang huh. Charles, no need to think about the distance lah, you go….Lina will go….

      Ah Nee

    30. Hi Douglas

Ah Nee has a valid point about rented bike. If possible, get them at Tg Pengarang. Pls advise.

Likely to join the countryside tour.

      Cheers

    31. Wah this is so interesting…hve never cycled outside Singapore. So tempting, what with the seafood makan and the tau sar piah!!. I would like to wait and see how big the group is gonna be…if more than 20 then I am in and I need a bike too..:-)))The more people the merrier, so that we can all help each other fix punctured tyres, loose chains, bruised knees :-))).

    32. Hi all,

OK, I will join you gals to Tg. Pengerang. Just felt that it is still a long way more to commit. The new jetty at Tg. Pengerang is ready, so will not have any problem with having to carry the bicycles. And there is always help at the jetty,if you give a small tip.

My friend, said that if we want to rent the bikes from Sg. Rengit she can arrange it for us. But have to take a taxi to Sg. Rengit. Rental much cheaper but bicycle not as good condition as those from Changi Village.

My friend also suggested that we should cycle to Desaru from Tg. Pengerang, but maybe

    33. Hi all,#40

to continue: another time, as per Douglas. Also, some cyclists are not comfortable to do that long distance.

The distance is definitely not what Charles is worried about. He cycles much further than that. So Charles, want to join us?

    34. Dear Ah Nee & Dolly

My ‘sum’ does not ‘yok’ leh? Ah Nee @ #30 said : “Macam holiday tour.” Yeah right!? ‘Holiday tour’ to me, means ‘R & R’ type. Definitely not the type having to worry about getting sore butt, getting sun baked, and peddling hard in the sweltering heat. No, thank you. You guys enjoy! May be, I’ll get like minded people to join me in my car and meet you there. By the time you guys arrived, we would have had our lobster lunch and sipping our coconut drinks while waiting for you folks to show up. Ai mai?

    35. After back from cycling at 5pm, we can all proceed to Tanamera for tennis lesson yah. Timing just nice. Buy some food from Pengerang and we can hv dinner by the poolside.

Sue – I hear you, will cycle side by side with you. Bring a small haversack and stuff your extra clothings inside.

    36. Good idea, Lily, bring your car and advance party.

Molly : really R&R the whole day, 12 April.

Also can stroll across to the food courts for dinner/supper after tennis, swimming or gym.

    37. My dear Lily, your “sum not yok yok” huh, this trip is as interesting as Bangkok trip what. Except no shopping only mah, and instead of walking, we are on the Bike lor. Not your taste huh…no wonder you didn’t show up during the 2 Pulau Ubin’s trip last year. How about another trip to Vietnam or Cambodia? :)

      Ah Nee

    38. Dear ANee, I m sure dat our dear Lily wrk on dat Sat la cos I remembered she told me dat Kelong dat Sat, she is off lor, dat y she can go kelong…

    39. Ah Nee

Walking or should I say strolling in air-conditioned mall is very different from peddling in hot & humid outdoor leh. Compare apple with apple – not, apple with orange lah.

I’ve cycled in P.Ubin 5 times in 3 years before I joined SHC. Once, I even went cycling alone with my then 10 years old daughter (just the 2 of us).

Vietnam or Cambodia huh?? Sure, why don’t you be the EO. I’ll be the first to show my support. Ai mai?

    40. Lina, am glad you are joining, so now I don’t hv to think twice. We can hv fun cycling together ya.

Dolly, 1st time cycling overseas for you too? That’s good. At least I hv company if the rest go fast.

Molly, you ok or not ? after the long distance at Pengerang, still want to go tennis? I think I’ll pengsan lah..

Lily, come lah…join in the fun. How often can we cycle to Pengerang together ? Switch your sat with someone else lor.

Erh.. AndrewY, you not joining us? how come you MIA for so long ah ? Hope everything’s fine with you.

    41. Molly, you said you’ll cycle side by side with me. I doubt very much you can do that… you are like speedy gonzales…zoom !& you’re gone.. think Lina also cannot chase after you. :)

    42. Oh I’ve forgotten to mention.. Douglas, I need to rent a good bicycle too.

Boon Liang, no need your bangladeshi already. Lina said can give small tips… so solve my problem. :)

    43. Sue – I promise to cycle side by side with you and the group at Pengerang. Bcos we are in a different land and this is my first time there. We will not leave you behind to fall again. We will protest you, 1front 1back 1right and 1left. How abt tat. He..he..he

    44. Ha.ha.. just joking lah… I wanted to tell you also not to “gay-kian” to cycle on your own, in case someone kidnap you…

Wei, you want to protect me or protest me huh? that’s what friends are for hor ?..he.he.

    45. Hi Suzhang at #49

As mentioned at #38, likely; though schedule might change.

Can’t join you folks for kelong due to ICPAS AGM on 19 April afternoon.

Mark my calender for 12 April already.

      Cheers,

    46. helo! Douglas..i also wanna go ah!

aiyo these few days..so busy till not time to forum!

i also can standby ‘puke bag!hehe

Lina..i will help u chase black chicken for yr herbal soup!then why u need ‘pampers’?..how to run around with it?aiya..susah to catch lah!

      alamak!..no need to bring so many barang2 lah..very leceh!..just extra Tshirt,thin towel,water bottle,cap,sunshade,poncho,mosquito repellent(small spray kind),lipstick & most important….passport!…so ‘weird’go cycling with it!

Lily…go lah..Yew Kwong going, so how?..u asst mah?..but hor..if u need to work..bo pien ,so kesian..then we will missed you lor

      Ok…must tido now..zzzz..yawn!yawn! :)

    47. Douglas, MIA?
Douglas some more questions for you.
What is road condition of the cycling route, paved all the way or sections with loose gravels? Many hills, steep slopes or generally flat? What is the overall traffic situation? narrow, how many lanes?
Any photos? etc.,, etc. Any views from other SHCs welcome.
      thanks

    48. MIA ? Maybe Douglas went to Pengarang to check and make new roads for us to cycle lah.
Charles, what ? how many lanes ? traffic situation ? this one not highway leh…..what do you expect huh? Think you ought to look out for chicken, dogs, cats, etc. when you cycle even…he.he..

    49. Calling for Andrew Yeung,

MIA ? Anyone knows what happens to him ?

He has been very active with us and suddenly “disappear”

Andrew pls, respond if you happen to read this.
      Thanks.

Pls. share with us what is bothering u ?

We are here to help. Just talk.

    50. Hi all,

Douglas,yr idea of cycling in m’sia is an excellent one,its a challenge to all bike enthusiasts.

      However in an emergency :-
I am concerned of tyre puncture.

Are there any bicycle shop along the way or we have to tag the bicycle for miles and slow down the rest.

And in case of stormy weather, are there any shelter?

Charles, good question abt road conditions. M’sian roads are different from S’pore. There are bumpy and sometimes full of pot holes. Be prepared for this.

    51. yes Suzhang, if the route consists of Kampong roads, then you are very correct. Look out for chicken running around, cow dungs, perhaps we may meet Selamat along the way. Bring camera along so can show proof of his escape.

    52. StephenC, first you MIA, now AndrewY MIA. If AndrewY does not respond within 24hours to your posting, maybe you may want to organise an island wide search by SHC members, maybe extend the search area to HongKong as well. Then we have two major searches going on concurrently, Selamat and AndrewY.

    53. Hi guys!!

I’ve been to Pegerang some years back and I don’t think there should be any worries about punctures and road conditions. Although I didn’t cycle (but took a taxi from the jetty to town) but went there to eat seafood, the whole group of you guys should have no concerns whatever.

The ferry ride is a bit long now because of the reclamation of Pulau Tekong as the boat must take a long detour.

So, enjoy the ride, nature, laid back kampong atmosphere and…. the seafood!

    54. Hi Nor #51,

I don’t need pampers lah, Nor. It is Grace Kok who says she need them. My backside is already ‘seasoned’ with so many sessions of cycling lately.

      Steven #62,
As I am using my own bike, I will carry a bicycle pump, a tubing and whatever is necessary in the case of a puncture.

Our friend, Tim a bit ‘xiao’ today. Got my cake making in the dancing and walking thread. Luckily did not get on this thread, otherwise Douglas will think I am ‘xiao’ also.

    55. Hi Lina # 66,

Not to discourage others, what if your tyre is punctured by a shred of glass. Even bicycle pump would be of no help unless you bring along too a spare tyre.

    56. “…..My backside is already ’seasoned’ with so many sessions………”

Sit up folks cos more of her confessions shd follow……………….

    57. Andrew Kuan #56, Yes, I think Sue is refering me.

      Hi Sue and Steven,
Not MIA lah. Just busying on some matters and haven’t read the SHC site for a while. Luckily, today an e-mail from Caroline reminded me it’s a long time I haven’t connect to all the good friend, then I saw your calling now. Thanks for your concern.

Hope to see all of the good friends soon.

    58. Charles
I’ve already responded to Steven’s calling, no more islandwide and HK search is required for me.
One such search should be more than enough. Don’t make it “one wave not calm yet but another wave is coming”

Furthermore, thanks for looking me so up to put my name in the same level as Selamat, ha ha.

    59. Joy
Now, I know what you mean the SHC friends are calling me.

Why you don’t tell me clearly? Luckily, I read the website today, otherwise, if I don’t respond to Steven’s call within 24 hrs., and initiate an islandwide and HK search, it’s all your fault, you know?

    60. Lina – (#66)

You are so carried away that you even read the thread incorrectly! Surely having seasoned your backside it is no wonder you do not require any pampers.

Is it not obvious for any seasoned cyclist that he be able to ride freely and comfortably without any cushions?

The PAMPER requirement started with Dolly (#27 and #28). Though I may be an amateur rider, I did agree with Ah Nee (#33) that perhaps there is no need for pampers at all.

To all experienced and regular cyclists – you are the BEST!

    61. Ha ha dear Andrew Yeung, selamat datang sini and selamat malam. Apa khabar? We must go eat nasi lemak to celebrate your appearance. Out of hibernation ya?

      Joy

    62. Hi Steven #67,

For tyre puntured by a shred of glass, advisable to insert a piece of note ($). Carrying a bicycle pump and tube would suffice.

GraceK#72, Sorry about that. I think cycling pants would be good.

    63. Hi Charles, better don’t anyhow joke ok ?

AndrewY, glad you came out of hibernation. I know weather are pretty cold these days…. don’t hv to sleep so long right? Thinking how to make more money for retirement ? So, are you joining us on this adventurous cycling trip? Heard there’s alot of nice & cheap seafood. Don’t miss this opportunity ya?

I guess next time SHC website should have one category for “LOST & FOUND” or “LOOKING FOR MISSING PERSON”..he.he.. no need to go island search & save advertisement fees.

    64. Hi Andrew Yeung,

We are very glad that you responded and you are OK.

Pls. join us for Sat walk at Bukit Batok Nature Reserve, We all missed you.

    65. Hi cycling kakis

wow, so many comments,Thank you, thank you,for the interest shown. I had been busy lately and not MIA, Now,how to answer to all. Here are the general answers to the thread posted:

      1. I don’t want to turn you all into an armchair cyclist, be there, see it, breath it. How often do you carry your passport with you for cycling. Since no one had cycled from Tg Pengerang to Sg Rengit, lets go and experience the thrill and excitement.

FYI, I had cycled from Tg Pengerang to Sg Rengit a few times, sometimes with 1 partner also boleh go.

2.There are NO bicycle shop at Tg Pengerang.

3.The total distance is about 36km. Charles, the road is empty at times, no vehicle, no people leh, just us cyclists. There is no bump, no pot holes and no hills and if it rains, there are bus shelters to look out if not we enter people’s house ya and Nor, please no catching of black chickens ya, we don’t want to start a chicken war.apa macam, boleh.

      4. Andrew I ride beside u, please mount an external speaker so we all can hear the music.

5.Boonliang,Dennis I heard you whispering to Grace that you all will be cycling up to Desaru. You go ahead ya, I wait for your return at Sg Rengit. BoonLiang,Dennis,I may need you as point man for the ride if the number exceeded our desired figures.

      6. I take it as all will need rental bike except BoonLiang,Dennis

7.We close registration on 6 April. I will post all the names of people going and requiring rental bike.

      Anymore questions?

      regards
      douglas

    66. Thank you DouglasC, you have answered all our questions. Just one final question- if we are going to be a large organized group cycling, attracting unwarranted attention, will some enterprising officer stop us to ask for money since we don’t have any permit? besides we are Singaporeans, very rich!

    67. Hi Douglas,

Thanks for enlightening us on all our doubts. Now we can enjoy our riding tour. Charles, don’t put on Rolex watch, wear only old & baggy T-shirt & short pant…macam beggar…then the enterprising officer will “siam” us …he…he..he…Hello all my cycling “BUDDIES”…I am the troublesome one, just in case the water is choppy and the Bike is heavy and I am a bit tipsy giddy, can one of the MANCHO BUDDIES take care of my bike pls. I try to eat a lot of dried ginger on that morning..oh gosh!….50 mins boat ride, I hope I can overcome it.

      Ah Nee

    68. Hi Charles #81,

Don’t worry, I am non Singaporean and poor, so I will protect all of you. Aiyah, only rich people worry about such things!

(my girlfriend from Tg. Pengerang said just to be careful – what else to do).

      Douglas, I won’t be needing a bike.

    69. hi charles#81
kampong folks very peaceful one, the place is laidback type, do not fear the deserted road, we ride with peace of mind ya.

water choppy-yes but boat ride beautiful leh, can notice the huge reclaimation off P.Tekong and did u ever wonder that tall mountain at the distance if you r looking from Changi Pt towards P.Tekong. we will be somewhere near that mountain. thrill ??

    70. Douglas, since Ah Nee has addressed my concern,i comfirm my participation. I will bring along my own bicycle. But may i suggest no singapore flags on bicycles and no loudspeakers hanging on bike otherwise the kampong folks may think our bicycle entourage is an election victory parade and may refer us to the Authorities. ha ha
BTW Suzhang, you are in top form now. Saya sudah kalah. Ta boleh tentangan awak.

    71. Aiyo, Charles, i tot by den, their election ovr liao meh.. apa macham la…

    72. Hi Dolly,

M’sian election is this sat.. Charles, got too much attention from the girls, so don’t know what he is saying anymore.

      Ah Nee #83,

Must secure bicycle tightly, otherwise can fall into the sea.

    73. Hi Douglas

I am a new ‘recruit’. Looks like all of you know each other very well.

Please include me for the 12 April cycling. I would need a rental bike.

      Thanks for organising.

      Cheers
      Siew Hoon

    74. Hi Ah Nee,

With so much chit chatting and excitement over the cycling challenge, your mind will be distracted from sea sick.

Just DON’T THINK abt it. just let yr hair down and ENJOY.

    75. Hi Douglas/YK/Lina ,

After the assurance from Douglas YK and Lina , I will take part in this exciting CYCLING CHALLENGE of Tg. Pengarang to Sg. Renggit.

Pls. reserved 1 TALLER rental bicycle for me please.

Thanks and looking 4 ward to this excitement.

Pray hard no rain on that day to spoil our fun.

    76. Calling for Tim /Wong KT /Andrew Yeung /Catherine Yeo /Robert n Kristy /Ron Lai n Annie,

Do join us for this fun and exciting cycling nostalgic event in Malaysia.

Not to worry, we will stopped along the way at intervals to have a break along the 36km. journey. Not DHL Express Service.

    77. Weiwei Siew Hoon, no lah.. i dun noe who is Douglas lah.. but hor.. just join lor.. we will definitely noe each other 1 way or another lor.. rite.. Nor/ANee/Sue/Molly/Lina
      etc etc…

    78. Steven, I hv been reading this thread.

To my mind, it’s some kind of an endurance ride with the first and last cyclists as far apart as 5 km any 1 way. Looking out for each other in unfamilioar territory becomes important.

It does hurt the butt (even a seasoned butt like Lina’s) and calls for a lot of alertness as the (few?) vehicles roar past. Which means that while folks can ride alongside each other to chat, they must be quick to swerve back into a single file once the revv of an engine is heard.

While there’s no doubt that it will be fun – food & exotic shopping galore – it can be a trying & gruelling experience.

I am not as fit as before – too lazy to keep fit – and will hv to think hard b4 making a decision.

    79. Hi Tim at #97.

Thanks for your concern regarding our safety and what to look out for.

You can give yourself a try.
Maybe you are much fitter and overcome this challenge than you thought.

    80. Hi siew hoon#91 and Dolly#96

Dolly is correct,we don’t know each other. I was trying to second guess siew hoon’s gender. I only came to know some members when I join the monthly ride, after this event, I hope to see more kakis at the monthly event, so do come and enjoy ourself.

      Tim#97
Its a thrill to cycle in unfamilar territory, firstly,u don’t know when u will reach there, what the surrounding is like. u don’t know whats at the end other than what other armchair cyclist said. it will not be a problem for u. remember,we are not on a race.

After this ride, your other rides will never be the same again.

    81. Hi again, guys!

Tim has highlighted a few cautions:

It’s a 36km ride, so new riders please be careful.

It’s a country road… so watch out for countryfolk, speeding pirate taxi drivers and, of course, chickens! By the way, black chickens have really white feathers.

      Bring along a first-aid kit.

Bring along a spare inner tube: this is better and quicker than trying to mend a puncture. So you need a pump, correct size tube, a couple of plastic tire levers, spanners to remove the wheel. Otherwise, just hail a passing “taxi” and get a ride to town.

I am content to be an armchair cyclist for now. And Tim, I know what’s at the end… a sore bottom for you!

    82. Nay, Kenneth, at the moment I am sitting on the fence, watching intently whose backside is sore and with my concocted oinment (add a special seasoning for Lina’s seasoned backside), will rub for a fee not for free…..a 70% discount for the gals tho.

Jokes aside, there will be stretches of the road which go up and then come down, making it impossible to watch for oncoming traffic (likewise for drivers in the opposite direction).

Where you need to push yr bikes, pls do so but on the sand/grass path away from the bituman roads. Safer that way.

    83. How can a younger man than me who used to be an athlete in many games now becomes an armchair athlete?

There is a Chinese proverb about a smart young scholar (Chu Gao) during Chu Dynasty. His father was a top general.

Chu Gao always advised the Chu Emperor on the art of war and state welfare.

On one occasion, there was an urgent campaign against the country, the emperor believed in the mastery of this young learned man and appointed him as the Lead General.

The final result, he was badly defeated, was surrounded and been killed.

The story’s moral : ???? (winning battles on paper only).

Tim is a real talent, far from that “learned textbooks scholar”, it is time for him to come out of the Kong Ming’s hut.

      Cheers, Cheers, hurrah!

    84. Helo Steven @60..saya burung hantu bukan ayam kampong lah…apa macam hvnt cycle think of tyre punctured..must be optimistic..nothing would happen..only we will enjoy all kakis for 50mins..very rare rite?..
ahnee,Dolly,Sue,Lina..bring kacang2, keropok & with Molly around pouring her sweetest drinks..sure best lah..hehe

Btw Douglas..can the ferry take in so many bikes?..im concern..must make sure everybody hv life jackets..most important hor!..safety first..no need to worry..
Ahnee can learn swimming … enormous swimming pool!hhmm

    85. Hi Douglas

I wld strongly suggest we fix e number at 20 for tis maiden trip. Subsequently we can increase the number once we find managing the group smoothly.

    86. Hi Steven

I have been following this thead for quite sometime, I have been to Pengarang once, is only a very small old town, with very narrow road, I will advise cyclists, be careful, don’t cycle in one BIG group, cycle in one single file. If you are there, go for BABY LOBSTERS in the restaurants, not expensive, ask for different ways of preparations. Three are also many fruit-farms, taste the various fruits, that includes durians.

You may have to leave me out, do not want to sore my butt, with such a long journey, but I only have to say…..BE CAREFUL.

      RONLAI

    87. Hi Yew Kwong #104

I fully agree with you, so kakis, sorry ya, we can only accept 20 riders for this trip,

We will organise another ride for those who are unable to make it this time.

      regards

    88. Hi Riders

Since we are riding out of Sg, its advisable 2 be equipped wif the least riding gears, a helmet n a pair of gloves. Moreover these gears can be used again during our monthly cycling or on other cycling occasions.

Carrefour is selling “Prowell” helmet @ $31. Quality is quite gd n it comes wif a detachable shade. The gals can take size “S” n the guys “M”. The frame inside the helmet can be easily adjusted by turning a knob.

U can get the gloves from any sports shop.

    89. Ahh….

      Import distribution opportunity.

See some nice arts and craft. On forex gain, you can make 2 times the money on many items even groceries.

Ask them to send lorry to Singapore for 15 Mar flea market. We’ll take delivery on your behalf, set up retail and storage for you.

Start a real business for real money. Start from the flea market.

    90. Hi Doug,

1 question 2 ask..Wat is the cost 2 ferry ur own bike over?

Hey, i didnt mention abt cycling 2 Desaru. My cycling standard is nt dat good yet.

      Joy: r u nt joing us ?

Sue: Agree wif u..we must have a “Lost N Found” or “MIA” column.

      Cheers, DennisW

    91. Hi Ah Nee #83… where got macho guys… even Charles needs Lina to protect ..he..he..so you better take care of your own bicycle. Sleep early the night before and have plenty of rest so you will not hv sea sick..
#84 Lina, how could they tell if you are Sporean or non-sporean ?

#103 -Nor, already bringing alot of stuff in my bag, doubt can carry keropok, it’s bulky though light. Buy from there lor.

    92. Hey Dennis, you calling me at #109? I am quite a chicken-hearted person and not adventurous enough for this. Although I learnt to cycle before I started school, I haven’t pedaled since 28 Dec 1997.

So, you have fun ya! And invite me when you cook the black chicken soup. Yum…

      Joy

    93. Hi Nor at 103,

Ooh! faham sekarang burong hantu, taK payah tidur , just toot,,,,,toot semua malam.

Not pessimistic but must be realistic.

Tyre puncture is common esp for a long stretch of long and winding roads. And in case of emergency we must be prepared.

Better to be kiasu ! Sporean mentality.

    94. Hi Yew Kwong

Is it a must to wear helmet? It’s very leceh rite?.. got to carry so much stuff & take care of own bicycle?

Some more @#100 – Kenneth suggested bringing 1st aid kit, pump, correct size tube, a couple of plastic tire levers, spanners etc.. wow, who’s carrying all that ? I know I can’t as I don’t hv all these things. Lucky me. :)

No wonder Kenneth prefers to be a armchair cyclist, but am sure he will miss all the fun!

    95. Hello Sue,

No macho guys meh? nvm…got strong guys what, don’t worry lah, 1st aid kit, bicycle pump..etc the guys will take care, we gals take care of Norlinda’s keropok, “sng buay”, sweets, biscuits, chocolate…etc mah, he..he..he.. looks like going for a pinic. Sue better wear helmet, for our own safety, not “leceh” lah. I try out my son’s helmet just now, but its not my size leh, I guess he will adjust it to my size. Also remember to bring “hong yu” for the mosquitos, just in case the mosquitos wanting to join you touring Pengarang..he..he..he… :)

      Ah Nee

    96. Hi Ah Nee

You bringing helmet? guess I won’t purposely buy one for this event. Afterall, we only cycle at EC most of the time, don’t need one right? Don’t worry abt those nitty-gritty thingy, I will surely equip in my bag. Nor, don’t forget my mozzie repellent which I hv left in your bag the last time we went Ubin, ok? That’s very impt to me. And don’t forget the sunblocked lotion ya.. if not “chow-tar” ah.

    97. Hi Ah Nee/Suzhang,

The helmet is necessary for your safety. And there is no good to carry the helmet, just put it on your head! I will be carrying my 27 1/2″ tube (bigger than the normal bicycle), pump, levers and whatever is necessary. But don’t know how to change the tyres, ha! ha!

We had a good time laughing after the walk at Sakae Sushi with Veronique, Gingko and others.

    98. Hi Douglas
I am a new recruit. Would like to sign in for the cycling trip on 12 april. Please kindly register me in. I need to rent a bike. Thank you

      Cheers
      gladys tan

    99. Hi Douglas

I went to Tg Pengarang in year 2006. There is a bicycle shop in Tg Pengarang itself. There are about 50 – 80 bicycles in that shop and condition of the bicycle is acceptable to Singapore standard. Cost is about RM12 for each bicyle. From the jetty take a cab to the bicycle shop and cost is about RM1-2 each for 4 in a cab. As the island is quite barren, wearing long sleeve shirt and a big hat to avoid the scorching sun is advisable.

    100. Hi all

      Suzhang #116
It is better to wear helmet as suggested by YewKwong. The helmet could be use during monthly rides or whenever u ride ur bike.

Don’t worry too much on tyre puncture. The EO will take care, hope tis nvr happens but after the Selamat case, Murphy’s law applied. I am not an expert on changing tyres ya but can try.
Bring a poncho just in case.

      Nor#103
Ferry similar to the one u took to P.Ubin, the different is u have to carry ur bike from the jetty steps to the rocking boat and from the rocking boat up to the jetty steps at Tg.Pengerang. ;)

Please be careful with the bike as I don’t want to tell the bike owner to collect his rental bikes from the bottom of the sea ya.:(

There are enough life vest on the ferry as required by MPA, only 12ppl per ferry + bike

There is a way to store ur bike on the ferry, I can only demo 2u on that day. I am not good in using words to explain how 2 store ur bike.

Norlinda, u sure u don’t need rental bike? Than I wait 4U at Simei @6am and we cycle up to Changi Pt. I am using my own bike.

      Ron #105
Fresh Baby lobster is definitely on the menu, if there is a good catch.

    101. If there are many of you, consider a convoy. Have a van or, at least, a motorcycle with side car to follow the group. Take turns to drive the support/emergency vehicle.

It is good for safety and security reasons. And it can be used to carry first aid, emergency overnight gear, camper, food and some additional luggage.

For those who cycle it is safer to travel light. You can then even travel for days on end, if the need arises. Sometimes it may be wise to build in some flexibility and resilience into an operational plan for contingencies.

For example, if the group is caught by heavy rains or floods, it is sometimes better to stay put than to rush back to base. A few hours delay for a storm to blow over may make a lot of sense.

    102. Douglas @ #122

We are still some time away. But be ready to re-appraise the situation closer to the time. Two factors to watch out.

      (a) Mat Selamat case may cause problems, not the least, unnecessary delays. If he is not caught by then it may escalate.

      (b) The surprising Malaysian election may be unsettling. And it did create some episodes of concern the last time BN lost its lower house majority. Don’t be caught in between cycling from one kampong to another.

If so, bring along an armoured vehicle instead of van.

      Hee-hee.

    103. Hi Lina #119 & Douglas # 122,

You’re serious ah? Got to wear helmet ?
But I won’t be getting one. Can we rent from the bicycle shop? eee…but guess it’s stink lah. So how?

    104. Hi Suzhang

Good to be safe, protected and careful, then sorry.

A helmet and gloves are basic personal essentials for safety and protection in cycling.

    105. Andrew @# 125

      1) To the masses it is. But you are right. To observers, it is neither surprising or unexpected. The right word then should be shocking.

2)How long did the US take to catch Osama? Think about it. Our security system has always been focussed on keeping people out. Which detainee in Singapore in his right mind would leave his comfortable cell, square meals and cable TV for Mandai jungle and mosquitos?

Before MS, you can always take a boat straight out of Singapore without being challenged. Your radar capture turns red only if you are heading to shore.

    106. Lina @ #126 #128

Once upon a time in Spore. Long before I put on sunshade to go outdoors. I use to cycle to school. From Orchard to Bras Basah and Orchard to Bukit Timah. Motor cycle would be cooler with the chicks but my mother was aginst it.

Might consider. Anybody with a van to offer? I volunteer to take escort/shopping/takeaway detail. What is a little sacrifice for friends?

Historical re-balancing of power foreshadow great changes. Also portends to great opportunities and threats. Depends on how you see it and how you take it.

BTW, how did you guys intend to bring the shopping back. Make sure that you buy two of each. Strapping two durians, one on each side, makes for better balancing. Take a photo. Hee-hee

Low hanging fruit is the strength of S$ to RM. This is the certainty part. In times of uncertainty, assets will dive.

Come to think of it, change small van to big van with plenty booty space. The Great Malaysian Sale is back again.

      Yippeee!

    107. A @ #132

“Correction: Good to be safe, protected and careful than sorry.”

      Stood corrected.

So says the pack. Life can do with a little lubrication too.

    108. So, you can to bring your convoy of armour and advance party for your friends on April 12?

Be the leading general and surprise everyone with your protective strength and pleasantry.

    109. Hi Douglas

Can reserve one place for a yet to be registered qualified member. Rental of bike is required. Will expedite with the registration today.

      cheers, alicia

    110. JuneLim..
wah!…u just manage to get in the tuckboat!..u r the no.20 indeed!..& registration is now closed. If too heavy..we have to unload u!..haha

wondering where’s Rene the magnificient rider!
      apa macam not going?
      Douglas..your ‘partner’ hilang oredi ah?

Hi EO Doug, hope u will consider taking in Alicia Soh. Just 1 more!…The more the merrier, we can help look after each other…unity is strength. :-))) But of course the last say is yours pls.

    112. Hi KT, #136

You see lah, you consider and consider until application for cycling closed already! But you still have an alternative. You can come and escort us in your Mercedes, OK. See you then.

    113. Steven..U r on rite track! burung hantu is going, so will perch on the ‘tallest man’ to foresee any obstacles!..boleh?
Sue &118..alamak sori..mana itu repellent ah?..must be somewhere in my hse..if not i will bring new one..don worry..remind me to pack hor!

Douglas @122..what u mean by 12 ppl per ferry+bike?..does that mean if 20 of us hv to go different ferry?
Btw..thank you for suggesting to wait for me at Simei at 6am??..helo..then siapa want to accompany from my hse?..apa macam..still dark leh..bukan takut hantu..takut orang!..
plus if like that, by the time at Penggarang..no energy liow!
I will be ferrying my bike with my personal ‘chauffeur’..hehe

    114. Norlinda @ 146

12 ppl per ferry means “the boat is licensed to carry max 12 passengers at any one time”. The same standard rule applies to ferries taking ppl from Changi to P Ubin.

    115. Nor

Nor #147 – Thanks. You were correct. I have already registered earlier. The one who is interested and whom I called buddy is my ex-boyfriend, now hubby, got it?

June #144 – Thanks also. Very touched. I remembered you, my coach for the fan making
      session.

      cheers, alicia

    116. YK..oh i c,tku..in that case..we must be divided into 2 ferries,4 boys & 6 girls per ferry since we hv 8 boys & 12 girls,so ngam ngam ho!

Wow!..looking fwd to this event! But first we must go Flea Mkt cum mthly gathering & cycling this weekend..then we have the most exciting event of the year..D&D..sure gerek!(shiok)
Penggarang seem so far leh!..cudnt wait!

    117. Alicia..alamak!..kesian yr hubby cant come along..now he ‘buay tahan’ got baby lobster, chicken soup, durian, rambutan, bananas etc is it?..hehe
      JuneLim..u susah!..she said can remember u leh..wah!..u her fan-making coach?..tiok bo?

    118. Hi Alicia..wrong no. Me not the one teach make fan :-)))

EO Doug, in this case pls do consider taking in one more, Alicia’s “buddy”. :-)) 12 to a ferry boat, so we still hve to take 2 boats. Also if Alicia’s buddy comes along, we hve one less to look after :-))) The buddy can look after her.
But of course, the last say is yours pls. :-))

    119. Hi again!

Just search Yahoo or Google for “Pengerang cycling” and read all the interesting (some old) posts for tips and more info!

I read that the residents don’t appreciate your riding two abreast… Tim, you got something to say?

    120. Douglas #122 Good that you are having Baby Lobster in the menu. No problem in getting at Pengereng, they usually have tank-full, alive and swimming happily to be scooped up for your dinning pleasure. Pl note they will always give you steamed, but you can always ask for butter lobsters or any other ways.

AndrewK # 125 & KT # 135 Subject matter TABOO isnt? Terence is coming along with a……..?

      RONLAI

    121. Thanks Lina, Ah Nee, Douglas,Yew Kwong & Andrew for those good advice. I know safety comes 1st. But I think I still don’t want to get one as I know it’s going to be a white elephant later. Is there anyone I can borrow one from ? If not, I will go without one, it’s ok – I will take extra care… ha.ha.. if not along the way, pick up one coconut shell to act as helmet lor.
      LOL.

    122. helo Suzhang..u don hv helmet, can share mine lah..eh, i only bring repellent for yr mozzie bites..yr kelapa kepala..not insured hor!

YewKwong said he will buy pretty helmet for me..u ask him to get for u also lah…maybe got more discount!..aiya, just buy one lah…then when we take group photo we’ll look ‘stunning’ mah!..i dont want u to be left ‘bald-headed’!haha..wont be white elephant..even it wud turn green at yr home as a decor art piece!..hhhmmm

    123. Hi Nor
I can’t stop laughing at what you say lah… how to share ? Who say my kepala not insured? I am insured from top to toe ok, worth money meh… he.he..maybe I’ll go get PA lah since so much emphasize on safety… seems like a dangerous ride there. Isn’t it about the same kind of ground like Ubin?
You so vain… people put helmet for protection you want to look “stunning” becos of taking photos? apa macam? The most I don’t take lor, so won’t spoilt your photos lor, ok?

    124. Hi puteri Norlinda ,

You won’t melt in the sun leh.

Tak payah helmet. Panas dan banyak susah. Lecheh !

When you are about to fall, put down one of your legs on the road, and exert a push on the bike and continue to balance and just cycle all the way.

In that way,you can never fall.
      Try it to believe it.

    125. Steven

I think U hv 4gotten tat Nor dun hv legs of ur length. If she tries ur method 100% percent she cant balance herself unless U stay by her side 2 receive her fall.

Believe it or not, a helmet is a sound investment n it will last U a long time. Moreover, it can be used as a weapon 2 beat off intruder. ^;^

    126. I do agree with Yew Kwong on the usefulness of the helmet.

Assuming tun seri dr kestari is hiding somewhere in the jungle where he keeps his helmets which wd all be turned upside down now to keep water for drinking and rear some fish to eat, keeping him alive & nourished.

When he’s outside say at busy orchard rd, he cd sit next to his row of helmets for kindly sporeans to drop their loose change.

Frankly you cant live without a helmet these days cos the future is too unpredictable and there’re just too many rainy days ahead….

    127. Helo Menteri Besar Tuan StevenChan!

You wont know when u fall..mana ada orang tahu when they wanna jatuh!..that’s why its call accident..betul tak? helmet also will protect our heads from the scorching sunrays..if not our brain can melt, get migraine lah!nanti pandai jadi susah!..haha
Ya lah..saya don hv graceful long legs like yours!
furthermore, i heard some roads are bare..no trees/shades along the way?..so must really use sunbloc >100spf!
my dear Sue..its unlike Ubin hor…maybe some but think mostly on the country road…real road!..if u lucky cows & goats will also use same path!..hehe
am i correct Douglas/Charles..pls enlighten your adventurous experience..hhmm

So..i believe the helmet is something worthwhile for safety..invest a little, u wont regret..its worth it!

    128. Hi Nor#62
I am more concer about u not wanting to rent the bike leh than about the cows and the goats.
Its true about the scorching heat as we are facing the morning sun.

    129. Hey!!

I was talking with a friend who’s a keen cyclist and foodie:

He says that the “mini lobsters” are really crayfish!! So don’t be disappointed!

Also: He believes helmets are over-kiasu… no recorded case of cyclist having a helmet that saved his life. Cycling helmet is made of foam and perforated for ventilation… no protection from sun either.

You need sunblock and mossie repellant more than you need a helmet.

    130. Kenneth#164
Most western countries, helmet is compulsory and not kiasu, its a matter of time before we follow.
Its possible crayfish could pass off as baby lobster, any kakis knows the difference.

    131. Douglas,

I think we had this discussion/debate of crayfish and baby lobster some time back. Quite an interesting discourse on it too. Anybody….remember this.????

    132. 1) An investment in a helmet (and gloves) to give sense of security and to protect the most vulnerable and precious head and hands, is invaluable.

When one falls at a traveling speed, the head, body and limbs are exposed to injury risks. The covered hands help to break fall, otherwise they too will be bruised or injured.

Better safe and be protected than to be sorry. It is a worthwhile investment even for one-time travel.

Would one not wear long-johns when one travels to places rather cold or to suffer sicknesses and miseries?

      2) A lobster, whether normal, giant or baby is different from a crayfish in taste and constitution. Selling off crayfish as baby lobster is another matter.

    133. Douglas@163…u mean we will be renting a mountain bike for only $10 a day?..my bike is too masak2 is it?..if that’s the case..ok, i will rent a bike as recommended by chief lah…i thot my bike nicer ..hehe

Kenneth..u very jahat! ..say we all not only kiasu but over-kiasu!..apa macam
Im sure helmets are made to protect to a certain extent..furthermore we gonna cycle for a long distance at a foreign land, many of us not use to the surroundings/conditions & all…so better be safe than sorry rite?..hhhmm

    134. Hello Suzhang,

So you still hesitating whether to buy or not to buy a helmet huh. My advice is to buy one lah. Remember, we wear helmet during Retreat at Bintang (Pyramid Obstacle), we also wear helmet during our STADA course (one of the outdoor programme), again we wear helmet during our Sentosa Luge & skyride, so you see the important of wearing a helmet. Kenneth, apa macam…..you don’t see the important of wearing a helmet meh. This friend of yours, don’t believe in helmet huh, guess his head must be made of Iron lor.

      Ah Nee

    135. Hi An Nee,

So you are back already. It is quiet without you. The bicycle rack is excellent. Thank you. Took it to Sembawang Park yesterday and had a ride there. So I get to keep it for as long as I want?

Hey, a must have at Tg. Pengerang is the buttered lobster.

Anybody got a bicycle helmet to lend Suzhang.

    136. Hello Lina,

Back home already, but I look dark leh, must blame it on the hot sun & sea breeze lor. Wow, at least the bicycle rack is useful for you. You can keep the bicycle rack as long as you want lah. Lina, beside buttered lobster, must eat chillies crab & drink coconut juice also, these are Norlinda’s favourite.

      Ah Nee

    137. #164 Kenneth, frankly I agree that I need the sunblock & mozzie repellent more than the helmet..haizz.. but after all the emphasize on protection and safety…ok, ok..I surrender! I’ll go get one if I can. Oh Rene, you’re not going right? do you have 1 I can borrow ?

#156 Nor, have YK bought your pretty helmet yet? How come pretty huh ? macam got lace or flower on it? apa macam?… If I can’t borrow from Rene, then need YK to get 1 too, but pls just get one normal one, no need to be pretty one ok ? YK, if you still hasn’t get for Nor, pls wait for me. I will let you know soon via sms ok? Thks.

    138. Wei Ah Nee, so now you are darker than me har? Didn’t you put on sunblock ? Oh dear, this weekend & next month still hv to go under hot sun, so you better wear long sleeve Tee or the artificial long sleeve that you bought in Bkk lor. :)

    139. Suzhang,

How about Molly, she got helmet or not? Not forgetting June Lim, Norlinda, tomorrow you remind her of getting one hor. Grace kok, remember to ask Yew Kwong to buy for you, what colour you want? Nor want a pink…nice meh?

      Ah Nee

    140. Oh yeah hor, forgotten to ask Molly.

Wei, Molly do you need pretty helmet like Nor ?

Eh..I don’t want pink ok… such an outstanding color. I’ll take black. If I don’t use it next time, my son or daughter can make use of it too – more practical isn’t it? Oh yeah, Nor/Ah Nee, are you getting gloves too ? I think I’ll need one pair since I am getting helmet, might as well make it complete, rite? Molly, you need glove or not?

Yew Kwong, can you get gloves too? I need a pair of black, Size: M. Pls let me know if it’s possible. Thanks.

    141. Wei Lina

Can you make up your mind about going cycling this Sat ? Spray lots of perfume lor if you scare of smelly ok? Don’t worry lah, we all will smell the same as you. Think smelly better, so the flea won’t dare to come near you…ha.ha.. :)

    142. Aiyo, i think hor.. I 1 2 gostan balek liao.. must hv helmet, gloves, etc etc.. so many barang2 2 bring leh.. vry lechey leh.. I reli cant imagine hor dat i wear helmet 4 cycling leh… Sumore, mountain bike, i dont think I can handle la.. rite, YK, I dont recalled ever rented a mountain bike b4. If tis is so, den, I beta opt out liao… rite???

    143. Hello hello Dolly,

Bicycle, no reverse gear lah, so “buay sai” gostan hor. Don’t like that leh, put on helmet only what, who knows, you may look stylo milo like a pro riding a mountain bike. Who said rent mountain bike? A comfortable bike is sufficient lah.

      Ah Nee

    144. Ha.ha..Dolly, Ah Nee is correct lah.. why want to gostan now? You are not alone. Most of us will be wearing helmet & gloves lor, like Nor say will look stunning when taking photos meh. Some more with sun glasses, all will look like a gang of mafia & look the same lah. Can’t imagine what those folks at Pengarang would think of us. ha..ha..

    145. Hi Suzhang at # 108,

….Can’t imagine what those folks at Pengarang would think of us.

” Ah Ow Chout San. ”

Looks more like a batch of aliens.

    146. Hi Dolly at # 178,

…..YK, I dont recalled ever rented a mountain bike b4.

If tis is so, den, I beta opt out liao… rite???

Dolly, don’t let the word mountain bike scare you. It just like a normal bike with more gears meant for rough terrain.

Not to worry, we are not cycling across mountains but on a flat road .

    147. Hi kakis

      Hi Yew Kwong

can I meet and discuss with u on this coming ride to Pengerang during this sat’s monthly cycling meet.

Alicia #142 Ur ex-bf is on waitlist

      Thks,
      Susan

    150. helo Douglas@183…earlier I oredi mentioned @146 that i will ferry my own bike..meaning no need to rent lah..
then u ask why i dont rent(confusing?)..so i assume thot my bike not up to standard for long ride & must rent mountain bike?..
sori..my saying got Dolly & Steven ‘scared’!
I also don see Lina & rest no remarks on renting…they also bringing own rite?

I no need to buy gloves..cos that time ahnee bot for us oredi lor…during one of the cycling event

    151. Hi Norlinda Puteri at 187,

      Sudah naik pangkat. Ha! ha!

I am not scared. I had always been cycling a mountain bike around my vicinity and once with Charles to Bkt. Batok Reserve.

I had also cycled to the Kepong Forest Reserve in K.L., M’sia.to see the gigantic trees which yield valuable timber like chengal , rembau ,jelutong etc whenever I go back home.

    152. Lina @#175, after bringing up yr kids you hv become lazy…..helmets got holes cant patch up meh?

If you must be lazy, no problem, go see mr seah kim singh and borrow his turban which is cemented inside…..the one with the mickey mouse embossed on it, you cant miss it……

    153. Andrew…Yes, I am bringing my bike lah..ada ‘driver’ to angkat for me..
as I am comfortable with my own..& its quite new..so i dont think will give problem.
Looking fwd to our fellowship ride!

    154. Hi Yew Kwong

Don’t need to buy the helmet for me anymore. Am borrowing from my brother, which he uses it for roller-blading.

Lina, you bringing the extra pair of gloves for me right ? Thanks in advance.

      Cheers,
      Susan

    155. Hi Alicia #194

Please ref to my post at#182 – I was refering to WKT’s post at#143.
      WKT is on waitlist.

      see u n ur ex-b/f 12 Apr ya,

    156. Hi Douglas,

WKT is only pulling your leg. He is not interested in cycling, only fooling around. I think he will come in that armoured vehicle instead.

    157. Hi Nor /others,

I see 20 over emails from different SHC members talking abt HELMET until my kepala pun sakit terok.

Improvised instead by wearing a thick turban.

    158. Steven got the idea there, Dolly singh & June singh…you may want to consider wearing a turban instead, if you find the helmet is too “leceh” ha…ha..ha….. :)

      Ah Nee

    159. Lina @ #197

My word is my bond. Provided that you read everything that I say.

I volunteered to drive an escort vehicle. If the group need one and is prepared to hire one over the other side, I will drive it for you. Everybody can then enjoy cycling without worrying about carrying too much weight.

Budget tight? Try your skill at choosing the winning five for the Singapore National Dish at the SHC Flea Market. Who knows. You might win a stretch limousine on Mon.

I won’t drive any vehicle, armoured or otherwise, through the immigration now whilst MS remains free.

Now isn’t that irresistible. No. Don’t have to thank me. It’s my nature to be helpful and giving.

      Hee-hee

    160. Hi Ah Nee #199

Ha.ha.. I think wearing a turban is more leceh lah. Don’t think Dolly know how to tie and isn’t the cloth very lengthy? More mafun to bring that along right? apa macam?

    161. Steven @ #202

      Nah ….

Not chauffeur. After my shopping where have enough space for you guys. White bread alone at Income has increased from $1+ to $1.30. The official sub-5% inflation must be referring to air.

Besides I have reverse claustrophobic. I have a fear of not being out of confined spaces like the cabin of an air-con vehicle with good rock and roll music.

      Careful of acid rain.

      Hee-hee.

    162. Wahpiangz, Sue n ANee, si mi peng you har.. ask me 2 wear turban.. lagi susah la.. sim like tis trip vry ‘gao nan tu’ 4 me leh.. ‘siang now jin’ liao… :)

    163. A secret that I am duty-bound to share with my fellow SHCians.

Know why Terence likes to be called by his last name?

It relates to the cloth bundle, usually seen as a hear gear, which comes handy outdoor and at picnics.

Open it up, tie the 2 ends each to a tree and you get a hammock. Still open, lay it on the ground and start romancing.

So gals, try it out………..you’ll love it.

    164. Hi all,

Saw S.T. advert today 14/3/08 at carrefour, mountain bike with 18 gears and alloyed rims.
      u.p. $168 now special offer $79++,

For those who had NO mtn bike this is a good time to buy and practice cycling every day to mentally prepare oneself for our
F1 cycle race at Tg. Pengarang to Sungai Ringgit.$$$

At end of riverbank you will find buried gold nuggets.

So hurry down while stock lasts.

    165. Hi Dolly #205

Just joking at #203. After yesterday cycling at EC, I think it’s not only “gao nan tu” for you but for me too. Don’t think I can take the hot sun & the long distance ride afterall. I think I’ll go “chow tar”. :( hmmm… can we hop onto a vehicle or smthg if we can’t cycle halfway?

    166. Hahaha!! You guys!!

You’re only going for a “jaunt” along a country road and you’re talking about how hot, how unsafe, how you need helmets, gloves, etc. etc.

First, you NEED to train… your legs to cycle the distance.

Then you need some bike skills like how to avoid a chicken.

Then you got to learn how to quickly get to side of the road to make way for the roaring trucks and beatup cars that thunder down the byways.

No riding more than two abreast… safer this way.

Bring a hat, lots of sunblock, water and a few more dollars (ringgits) in case of an emergency.

I was half-joking when I said that helmets are unecessary… but bicycle helmets are a dismal joke… have you seen one?? Made of foam and plastic covering, vented (to prevent overheating) and shaped like a stunted torpedo?

Do you know that the US CPSC (safety standard) means that it is certified to protect your head only in an 11-mph impact with a jagged surface like a rock or kerb and only a 14-mph impact with a flat surface?

That’s why the kids’ safety website has a recommendation on bicycle helmets… they don’t ride at more than 14 mph.

Yes, Susan, your brother’s roller-blade helmet will offer you more protection.

Or, you could opt for the turban… can absorb sweat, quite adequate protection seeing that turbans are also substitutes for helmets for motorbikes, use as a hammock, and also towel, and to cover up when you take a dip in the stream!

      Enjoy your ride!

    167. Hi Kenneth

You can sit back & laugh hor ? How come you are only good at giving advice ? What about joining us there so you can be our guide, lead us & be our demo ?

I will definitely opt for my brother’s helmet, turban for you to protect your head when I come back !

    168. Hahaha!!

Susan, please take my advice AND wear the helmet if you feel unsafe.

I’m taking my own advice and not cycle that distance until I’ve had some training/practise. So I shall miss out on this Pengerang trip and not be your guide and the “demo”… as to how to fall without a helmet.

Meanwhile, I shall learn how to tie a turban should I meet you on the way back!

    169. Seah Kim Singh, looks like many more are coming for your turbans. Unfortnately folks like Kenneth will hv to be placed on the wait-list but he can, while waiting for his turban, play with K Singh’s donald ducks and ducklings…………..

    170. Hi Yew Kwong

You mean trial cycling not runs is it?…. but how come on 24Mar, Monday & at 13:00 hrs. It’s going to be very hot at noon. Anyway, I hv to work that day. Will see if I can just go for 1 trial. Will let you know if I can make it.

By the way, Douglas, do you think the bicycle kiosk will be opened at 7:00am ?

    171. Hi Douglas
I am a new member. Please sign me up for the cycling trip to Penggerang on 12 april. I need to rent a bike.
      Thank you

      Regards
      freddie tan

    172. Hi Douglas

Please sign me up as I am also a new member.

      Frankie

    173. Hi Suzhang

Bike shop is open at 7am, special arrangement for that day.

    174. Douglas…
I think i will need a rental bike…bcos YK said my bike not pretty enough to go Penggarang…susah lah!

WKT..u tak pening kepala ah always think of investment?…sleep also see not only dollars but banyak2 currencies…be like us better lah…only see sheep & moon..so peaceful

      R Leong…are u Rene?..so long never cakap2?..mana pegi?very busy ah?..glad that u are coming.

    175. Hi Douglas/Yew Kwong

Could we have the trial on one of the Sat. instead of Sunday ? Sunday normally reserved for family, so unlikely to join you guys if it’s on a Sunday. Saturday about 4:00pm would be good as 13:00hrs can be very hot. Could you guys consider pls ?

Nor, Lina, Ah Nee, Molly, Dolly, Rene,
Would you gals be able to join in the trial ?

      Thanks
      Susan

    176. Yeap, Sue, u r rite, I oso dun prefer Sun as it meant 4 family get-2gether 4 me lor..

Sori, YK/Douglas, I wun b joining any trial rides in March’08 or rather till D&D is over la.. Rite now, reli vry bz.

    177. Nor @ #222

      Peace. Me too.

Some people count sheep to sleep. Others count money. Sama2.

You don’t need a rental bike. You need a puncture bike. Dua pun puncture. Then get the handsome knight on white bicycle to “tumpang” you. Kaki tak susah.

Just put hands around waist and clasp yur fingers together. No finger or licking good. No touch-touch.

He ride, you sit. Use brain, not legs.

    178. Hi Susan

If you are unable to train on Sundays, than practise with others this Sats 22Mar. try to cycle up to Changi V within the 2hrs.Soree,I can’t join this Sat.

Please post ur comments here if you want to attend the trial runs on 23,29,30 Mar and 5 April.

For Trial runs, all kakis must try and cycle up to Changi Village within 2 hrs, otherwise you will be holding us back during the trip to Tg Pengerang.

      Nor, rental bkie noted

    179. Hi Riders

Once again pls be reminded 2 chk validity of ur passport. It must be valid for at least 6 mths from 12 Apr 08 otherwise U may b turned bck at chkpt.

    180. WKT @223
U very jahat but still cute!If u r the handsome knight..then saya use brain lah…if not, saya tompang my adorable sheep pun boleh lah..hehe

Douglas,tks..I just need a good rental bike (kiasu!)..dont think i can join the trial runs on weekends, but will try to ask my buddies Ahnee & Lina to join me one of the weekday while im on leave nx wk.

    181. Hi Nor #226

All the bikes are mountain bike, not the one that we rent from EC McD, so its much better and faster.

Good to hear u practising with ur buddies,I can see anak lobsters waving.

    182. Hi Douglas,

I like the phrase ‘I can see anak lobsters waving’. So you are full of imagination too.

Suzhang, Nor, am not too keen on the trial runs cos I practice at Bishan Park in the evenings. Happy training.

    183. helo Lina
U pagi2 sudah cakap2..so today jadi or not? the weather not good leh?shall we hv lunch & go movies?

Douglas..nvm abt training..i always cycle on my own on weekends..don worry abt me..im fit & rugged lah..not the ‘lembek’ kind!..hehe

    184. Hello Nor, Lina

If all of you are not going then, I won’t be going too. No point to go for only 1 trial also, rite? Won’t do any difference.

Douglas/YK, guess you guys can go ahead if you want whether on Sun or Sat. So sorry, pls leave me out then. From EC to CV, you mentioned takes 2 hours, but at Pengarang we hv 1 whole day, isn’t it? so how come not enough time?

    185. Hi Lina
Most men are imaginative, some over imaginative, others over creative and too pro active, but me, passionately hyperactive cyclist lah.

      Nor,
I have seen you cycle and I know you can make it.

    186. Suzhang,

We try the trial runs next month, if we have the time, Lina, June Lim, Nor, Grace kok, Molly, Dolly …boleh? Nor will buy “Rojak” on the way, this will make our trip more ???…….he…he…he…this trip suppose to train our stamina ????

      Douglas,
We have one whole day at Pengarang, so no need to rush, but it will be good if you plan some kind of itinerary / schedule, and stick to the timing. We will try our best not to hold back all the pro cyclist. Meanwhile, me & Suzhang will work very hard at our Gym. :(

      Ah Nee

    187. Hello hello,

You know who I am calling….all of you stop “cakap cakap” and get ready by noon. Think Vivo city is best. c….u…. :)

      Ah Nee

    188. Douglas..tku terima kaseh for acknowledging my cycling stamina!
      So..anak lobster & ayam hitam…we are coming, tunggu!tunggu!

Suzhang..u know why not enough time?, bcos we are visiting makan2 places, then stop under a shady tree for durians & rambutans…maybe got coconut tree to climb..then the last ferry wont wait for us u know, get the idea :)

    189. Hi Susan #230
We don’t cycle whole day in Tg Pengerang. Most will pinsang

The distance from EC McD to Changi V is almost the same distance as from Tg Peng. to Kg S.Rengit.

The 2hrs, one way, is meant for slow riders.

The return journey ie, To/From will take about 4hrs.

Our lunch and rest at Sungei Rengit is about 2hrs.

Ferry one way is about 1hrs.

Another 1 hrs for certain ppl who wan to admire black chickens, beaches and maybe entertain someone’s punctured tyre tube

This is a big group and for most its the first time, and you know lah, first timer very kanchong type, so I expect some delays along the way.

We MUST be at Tg Pengerang Jetty before 5pm.

Its safer to be early at Tg Pengerang Jetty to catch the ferry back to Sin.

Do try and practise on your own if you are unable to attend the Sat/Sun ride.

      regards

    190. #235
Douglas, thanks for clarifying. Don’t worry lah… think we shld be able to make it at 5pm at the Jetty. I will try my best to complete the journey.

#234, Nor, apa macam, still want to climb coconut tree & eat durians? Fat hope !! U still hv the energy ah?

#232 Ah Nee, do u want to join me early in the morning using the bicycle at the gym from next week ? Haizz

I better get ready now..if not my buddies will scold me..late again!

    193. Nor,
u banyak imaginative, focus on ur cycling hor and less on pisang, apa macam nanti u pengsan and lembak like pisang. but pisang is a good energy booster for cycling.enjoy ur pisang

    194. Hi Nor at 38,

Chabut (SOS run for your lives) becos Nor is going to makan them all baby crabs, lobsters, and black chicken. Shell too.

      Sedap! sedap! Shell pun makan.

    195. Hi Yew Kwong/others ,

I like to join all of you for the 1st.trial run at Mc Don ECP at 1pm this Sunday 23rd.
      Pray hard no rain.

Don’t think of the 3hr. cycle ride, think of the reward at the end of our destination –
Changi Village -famous for Changi Nasi Lemak. SEDAP -nya.

    196. Hi Ah Nee, Suzhang, Nor,

Don’t worry about not being able to make it back in time. We can stay at my friend’s house in Sg. Rengit. So we have lots of time eating durians, rambutans, climbing coconut trees, chasing black chickens, eating pisang and of course playing with the anak lobsters.

Douglas, you seem so serious when we first met you. But here, you can really joke. Getting familiar with us. Wait till you get to know us better!!

    197. Hi Andrew,#245

Yah Lah! Let him find out slowly. Must put on good behaviour at first. Then slowly show our true colours. Otherwise, he will really pengsan. Maybe, he even more ‘terok’ than us. Ha..ha..

    198. Hi Lina #44 &#47
wan2b naughty can, wan to be familiar also boleh wan, apa macam over imaginative ka. but tks4d feedback, hahaha

      Andrew#46
urs is dry run, mine is live run, let us run 30Mar to CV. See U

    199. So Lina at #244

So there are many reasons to stay over at the fruit village longer right?

Fresh and varied durians, rambutans, raja/kuning pisang, (mangoes?), kampung chickens, anak/adik/abang/cucu/datuk lobsters – too good for city dwellers to miss.

Untuk MBA, suami atau isteri raja, boleh!

    200. Hi Andrew#250

Me using personal issued weapon for full dress rehearsal and for the nasi lemak attack at CV.

R U using ur personal issued weapon for the full dress rehearsal or U b collecting from the weapon store.

    201. Hello Ah Nee,

I hear you calling for me… wow out of office (20/3/08) so quickly that I missed you. Please note that I will phone you on Monday hor … will you be back to work leh?

      Cheers, Grace Kok

    202. GraceK, ya lah, Douglas said; have to fall in for full dress rehearsal lor. So asking you want to join us for a cycling trip from EC MacDonald to Changi Village, thereafter for a sumptous Nasi Lemak meal, ai mai? We can do this next month on 1st week of April. Can call me lor, monday will be working… :(

      Ah Nee

    203. Ah Nee,

Exactly! better listen to the expert as he surely must have his reasons for doing so ……. will catch with you……:D

      Grace Kok

    204. Hi Lina #244

I think you are not responsible with your comment that time is not important because you are not responsible for their tardines, but as the EO, I am responsible for their safe return to Singapore.

We depart as a group and we return as a group period.

    205. Hi Douglas,

Don’t take it seriously, Lina #244, She is just joking only. Of course we go as a group and come back as a group. Oh ya, was wondering if we need to bring a mini first aid kit complete with some basic medical essentials for this trip? Also, roughly how much ringgit to bring?

      Ah Nee

    206. Hi Douglas, Mike and Alicia Soh ,

Thanks for the wonderful 4hr ride to Changi Village and back.

I enjoy the nasi lemak, the scenic view of Changi coastal track ,the airport’s runway and most important of all your company and fellowship.

I had a tyre puncture on my back wheel caused by a short but sharp barnacle shell.Luckily for me it was close to Changi Village and the bike shop was still opened. So repair was fixed and able to cycle back.Otherwise…

It was good weather :- cool and cloudy day. Cant ask for more.

Now we are more mentally prepared to take the Pengarang F1 challenge.

    207. Hi Douglas,

Ah Nee knows me better, I am only joking lah.

Steven, glad you manage to find some riding kakis. So they were a bit late. Must get Douglas’s phone number.

    218. Dear EO Doug. I am backing out from this P cycling trip. With much sadness mind you as I love such trips. Reason being I hven’t done any of the cycling trials. And I can’t make it for the last one tom as m still hving a bad cough….that kind which starts with tickles in the throat that makes u cough till your tears roll down..:-))) Frankly I think I can make it to P and back..(I am rather active, 2hr briskwalk on Sundays, with regular exercises during weekdays). But nevermind, I console myself that this 12 Apr Pengerang cycling trip will not be the one and only one..:-)))) There will be more in future right? Sorry to hve caused any inconvenience. Best Regards.

    219. Hi June,

      Yew Kwong,

Please help update those who had paid by indicating against their name in above the post

      Thank you.

    220. Hi June

Since you are quite an active and fit person, am sure you would recover within the next three days.

Since the last cycling trip after the CNY lunch, I did not have any cycling trial too but jog thrice/ four times weekly.

Hope you can still make it in 9 days time.

      Warmest regards

    221. Hi Nor

I have got a new passport and will be using it for the 1st time on Pengarang trip…hmm… so no need to worry about me… its a brand new one.

Molly, I have paid YK $40 bucks on your behalf last nite.

JohnH, Lina also paid for you, so you owe her $$ ya. Sorry you need to sacrifice your beauty sleep for those beauties there…he.he.
Do you need to bring your bed along??

    222. Wei Lina

Have you taken your favourite food ? I’ve finsihed mine. Today’s weather was good but it’s very hot. Luckily the rain only came after we finished cycling while on the way home.Heng ah!!

Am really tired after the long distance ride. Glad I was able to make it after much endurance. Was thinking how come this stretch of Changi Rd seems endless…..but alas, we managed to reach CV. Now both legs are aching but not as bad as last month.

Molly, don’t be discouraged or give up ya… dont seems like your usual self as you are quite determine normally. Hopefully your hand will be recovered by next week. Please go & see a doctor if you feel discomfort. Take care ya!

    223. Hi all

We had our final trial run this morning from McDonald to Changi Village. We had a wonderful fellowship filled with laughters and fun follow by lunch at Changi Village Hawker Centre. Some of us had the popular nasi lemak. On the way back, we stop at the East Coast Hawker Centre for another round of drinks. Those who attended today’s trial run at 10am are :

      (1)Douglas (2)Frankie (3)Joyce (4)Alicia (5) Mike (6)Gladys (7)Freddie (8)Susan (9)Ah Nee (10) Lina (11)Molly (12) Steven (13) John H (15) Dolly (16) Caroline (17) Ron

Thanks all for the ride, see you for the actual event next Sat. I will share the schedule and itinerary for Pengerang Trip via e-mail.

    224. Aiya, Douglas beats in posting this leh.. I was about to this myself n declared myself as pass leh…evendoe got fell down leh but hor, I did complete the whole course.. so I pass lor… :)

    225. Thanks Douglas for sacrificing so much of your time for us in the 3 trial run to Changi Vilage n back to ECP Mc.Don.

Thanks for preparing us for the Pengarang Cycle Marathon

    226. Hi Douglas

Oops, sorry I’ve forgotten to thank you.. yeap, thanks alot for the encouragement & some of the tips about cycling yesterday. It’s much easier going back EC… seems shorter too. Guess, its becos of the few stops along the way for ice-cream, drinks, etc..& yes, yesterday we had a good time.

Looking forward to having another fun time at Pengerang with the rest.:)

Dolly, so are you ready to join us again? Hope you have more confident now. :)

      Cheerio,

      Susan

    227. Thanks Douglas for an enjoyable outing and also for getting my bike fixed.

So malu. Nearly give up and wanted to take taxi home after lunch. If not for Dolly’s encouragement and your patience, I would have done it. Glad I rode the bike back to ECP so that I could use up the calories from the plate of sinful nasi lemak.

Also thanks to all my friends who encouraged me all the way, sharing jokes and laughter.

Ron Oz was wondering how he is going to tahan the 7+ hour flight back home with his hurting pomelo.

      Caroline Gee

    228. Hi Douglas,

Thanks for the trial run yesterday and with so much fun and laughter too. I guess now you are thawing out with us and find us a crazy bunch of gals.

With good bicycles, Caroline and Dolly you would both be able to cover the distance with ease. So do not be disheartened. Molly, hope you elbow heals quickly. Told you Susan, with each trial run your leg muscles get stronger. The only thing I cannot tolerate is the heat!! Cya.

    229. Hi Douglas @ 282

Number 14 is missing. Good we have a group of fit and strong people.

See you all this coming Saturday, 12 April for the wonderful ride.

Hope June Lim will recover fully very soon, can still make it !

    230. Hi Douglas and all, sorry could not join you all in the practice, but at least I have done a trip from EC to CV once.

Good to hear you are all prepared for the actual cycling trip to Pengarang. AndrewK, did not see you at any of the cycling trips at all but guess you are prepared for the unexpected I guess.

Some advice given to me by some cycling groups that have done this Pengarang trip, John and Eunice. Sorry you could not be with us this time, as the numbers are already filled up.

For all newbies, be prepared to cycle on the main road, where there are cars driving on the same road that you cycle, going in both directions.
My first motorcycle ride on Malaysian highways was scary as cars drive as close as possible to you. Sometimes the lorry drive past at high speed and even as they pass by you, the wind draft can sway you to one side. The noise from the lorry can also unsettled you so you have to learn to keep your balance.
At one time, a taxi was coming towards me while overtaking and was not giving way to me even when i was on my right side of the road. Guess what i had to give way to him jumping out to the side of whatever road that is, to save my life.

Not frighthening anyone but just trying warn you all to be prepared, in case, you have to jump out of the way , be prepared to do so. No time to argue who has the right of way if you are riding a bike/bicycle and a taxi or lorry decides he has the right of way.

Just want to know how else we can be prepared. The last time I went to Bintan I got stranded there till 5am in the morning almost could not make it for work on Monday morning. The reason the few ferry trips were cancelled/delayed due to heavy thunderstorm and high waves.

Sharing, about what else we can prepare, Douglas, do you think the shop can provide a spare tube for us to bring along incase of a puncture ? Will also bring ‘Bo Chai Hin’ in case of diarhoea, etc.

Looking forward to a good adventure, fun and fresh seafood galore.

    231. Douglas – Tks much for the trial run on sat. We all enjoyed ourselves too much. Appreciate your kind assistance.

Joyce – Tks to your friend on my behalf for rendering her services. Forgot her name.

Dolly – You also puat toh har. Must be on your return journey yah. What a coincidence the two OLLY puat toh.

My return journey was long and the heat was terrible.

Tks to Nee for the plaster.

    232. Hi Douglas

Molly sent me an sms. She wish to withdraw from this Pengerang trip after her latest accident yesterday. Think she has phobia about cycling now. She needs a break & also to recuperate from her injuries to get ready for the kelong trip on 19. Due to the unforeseen circumstances, would apprec. you cud refund the $ to her.

      Thanks,
      Susan
      (on behalf of Molly… I think she can’t type now….) :(

    233. #291

      Hey RonaldW,

After reading what you have metnioned, you made me nervous lah… I am scare to cycle on main road. Douglas, can we use the kampong or side road, where there is not much cars or lorries?
I rather avoid the chicken & ducks than to avoid the cars and taxi. Hmm.. sounds dangerous leh.

    234. Hello Suzhang,

So disappointed, Molly cannot join us on the Pengarang trip huh. I was about to tell you that we better keep an eye on Molly, she seems to cycle so fast and disappeared like “flying fox”. Dolly, please remember to slow down when reaching a bend or cornering, if not sure, just get down and push bicycle. Take care and hope both of you recover soon. :)

      Douglas,
Thanks so much for your guidance during the Trial cycling trip. It was so hot and the route seems so loooong. Wow! Suzhang this trip not bad hor, all the time ahead of me, I pedalled like mad but the bike don’t seems to “cheong” leh….he…he….he…I like to blame on the bike. :(

And you RonaldW, you forgot to congrat all of us leh. Some more made Suzhang nervous and frightened me. On that day, you be our traffic warrant officer, can? apa macam…..now I am not “sum york york” but “sum chuak chuak”…..

      Ah Nee

    236. Hi Ah Nee,

Having 2nd thoughts ah? Don’t think Douglas will be happy with Ron W’s posting. I thought kampong got chickens and ducks and suddenly RonW say taxi trying to kill him. Ha..ha..ha.. Will have to go and check it out myself. RonW you watch too many dramas!!

    237. Who riding in the van with me? We’ll take care of the rest.

You should be good at general first aid. I know only one trick. M2M resuscitation. For guys, hope that you have a life made out in 6 figures. 10% goes to me if you want to live.

I’ll put in a TV and we can watch the current drama endings. We’ll also buy durians all the way up to what’s-the-place-called-again.

      Hee-hee

    238. Hi all.

      Andrew K,

The girl fell and got hurt, so can understand the rational fear, but what happens to your leg, hope yours its not serious ya.

We now have 22 participants and since Molly and Andrew are withdrawing we would like to thanks them for their contributions hahaha

      Susan

Do not be too concern with Ronald W’s comment. He has never been to Tg Pengerang by bike, he may have been to other places where the traffic is heavy.

We will be cycling on the road as it is the only road from Tg Pengerang To Sg Rengit. I had said earlier in past post regarding triffic. the road is deserted at times with no/few traffic.

I share your fear as I am also a timid guy who hates cycling on the road. If I had not been to Pengarang a few times, I would also like to withdrawn after reading Ronald W’s comment.

I have seen you cycle and I have full confidence in you. I will not have accepted any ‘slow’ inexperience bikers if the road is not safe for cyclist.

Please ride with peace of mind, enjoy the fellowship and hopefully the weather is much kinder than last Saturday.

After this ride, we will have lots of laughter whenever we mention Pengarang. The first time is always the best of time.

      regards

    239. Aiyo, Suzhang, y so easily got distracted by oth’s rmks har… no fear la.. I m sure u can overcome this la..

Silor, Molly, I oso pua toh on d way bck lor but not as serious as urs.. But hor, cc is very pain hor. I am thinkg of going but first hor, I am going 2c if I can get a cycling pant wif plentiful of cushions 1st. YK, John told me dat Mustafa shd hv n shd b much cheaper den sports shop, is tis correct. I slept almost d whole day so din go out n check2, bo bian, lkk liao.. :)

    240. Hi Nor,

So you are back from your JB Condo. “Kesian” me and buddies, sat cycled from EC to CV and then back to EC. During the journey, I am thinking you relax relax at JB, me….poor thing cycled without you, no “sng buay”, no fruits & sweets, no keropok and rojak to eat, no wonder my journey seems like never end. Btw, Douglas bought the helmet for you already, its red colour same as mine.

      Ah Nee

    241. Heloo Ah Nee

I know you all must be very tired after yesterday’s trial run but its Lina who choose the colour and paid for Nor’s helmet

      Dolly

Maybe you would like to check this shop for your cycling needs. I will email you

    242. Dear Douglas

It is the tightness around my left thigh after some speed running and 2plus hours of tennis recently. No injuries, just want to be careful not to exert unnecessary pressure.

Thought it is wiser to rest so that the muscles can recover. I listen to my body.

50km might be too long for my tender muscles. Half that distance of cycling, I might consider.

Hope to receive the refund for an outing with Aileen.

    243. Andrew

The total distance from Tg Pengerang to Sg Rengit and back is less than 36Km, it is much shorter than from McDonald to Changi V and back. There are no hills along the way.

You have no problem with your psychology : ‘mind over matter’ ya, and you should be cure by wed.

    244. Hi Steven #285

Yes, I have been attended all the 3 trial runs. I love outdoor activities and I also need the exercise.

You are also a good sport in many ways and I believe you also love cycling as a form of exercise.

      regards

    245. Hi Caroline #288

I feel more malu than you leh, For the record, I caused the punctured ya. but thnks to you, I had a nice ride to Changi V, no sweat at all leh. Don’t forget ah kor ok.

    246. Hi gal bikers

It seem most of you really fell down from the bike. I just can’t believe until I saw with my own eye how Dolly fell slow motion infront of me, I tot she was doing a stunt.

After this trip to Pengerang, I would like to volunteer myself and guide some of you, who are interested, in learning the basic riding skills and technics so that you will not fall again in future cycling activities.

Those interested, just let me know.

      Regards

    247. Douglas

Apologies for this belated post, but thanks very much for letting me join in the ride from ECP to Changi Village. It was most enjoyable and I’m paying for it with a sore butt. Told my daughter about the bike ride and she was really envious.

I have also become envious of the many activities (like last Saturday’s bike ride) through SHC that I am not able to participate. Maybe I should consider retiring to S’pore????

More important it was great to meet the many people through SHC. I shall make a separate post about my stay in S’pore and first-hand interaction with SHC members later.

I’m now recovering from a pulled calf muscle from playing tennis with my daughter after my return to Melbourne. Silly me I forgot to do my warm-up and stretching exercises. So to all you bike riders, REMEMBER to do your stretching exercises before you start your bike rides — we are not young and our muscles are not like what they used to be!

Best wishes and have fun riding in Pengerang.

    248. Hi Andrew K,

      1) Sorry for not attending the activity on 5/4 becos too tired from the bi-cycling trial 36 km to Changi V and back to Mc. don.

2)…..It is the tightness around my left thigh after some speed running and 2plus hours of tennis recently.

Eeh! Andrew, beware you are not that young anymore. I think you had over exerted yrself recently.

      Rest more,take good care.

    249. Hi Douglas,

Like you, cycling is my passion too. Thanks for informing us of this NEW park connector to Changi V and planning the exciting Pengarang
      Bicycle ride to S.Renggit.

      Have wheels will travel.

As if not enough, went for another trial run from Changi v to Mac don 36km with Wesley on Sunday 6/4.

Never expect the connecting park to C.V. is so picturesque with cool sea breezes which extends to Changi beach.

It was so exciting to see long Changi runway where air planes land and take off at close range and the greenery on lining on both sides of the cycling track.

This brings me back to my days where our TAR lecturer brought us into the cold Genting Highlands to see and report on the highlands forest as part of our Botany taxonomy project.

Felt heavenly, everywhere you are surrounded by greenery where tall trees can grow to 100m or more in height. At some places, the sunlight just filters thru.

The rewards at Changi Village were getting to taste the delicious Nasi Lemak with yummy sambal sauce and goreng Raja pisang, fried coconut tapioca, fried green beans, fried yam and fried chempedak from Million Star food stall.

And so goes to our Pengarang ride, don’t think of the long ride but think instead of the delicious fried/steam baby lobsters, crabs and drunken prawns.

    250. Hi Ron Oz,

Thanks for joining us in the Changi V trial run.and sharing with us the Oz way of life.

I was very impressed with your stamina and good health at yr age.

You may appear elderly but “Young at Heart”

Hope to hear more in the forum from you abt Oz lifestyles and any interesting events.

    251. Hi Ron Oz,

Thanks for joining us in the Changi V trial run.and sharing with us the Oz way of life.

It was good to know you.

I was very impressed with your stamina and good health at yr age ansd fully completed the 36 km.ride.

You may appear elderly but “Young at Heart”

Hope to hear more in the forum from you abt Oz lifestyles and any interesting events.

    252. Hi Ah Nee

I am actually quite scare of cycling on roads. Remember the last time we cycled from Nor’s house to EC ? I was so frightened lah. How to jump off the bicycle when we meet with on coming traffic? Douglas taught me how but guess I can never do this stunt. :(

Doug/Dolly, thanks for the encouragement & assurance.

Oh Nor, I put on your helmet on Sat. becos there is no place in my basket to put, so I wore it.
My sister happened to have a brand new one at home, which she bought it for her roller-blading. She has not even used it yet, so I borrowed from her & guess what, is the same colour as yours & Lina. :)

    253. Hi Suzhang,

Must get a few more tips from Douglas on how to get rid of the bicycle when one is about to fall. He said just throw away the bicycle and not follow the bicycle and fall together with it, right. But then must decide which side to throw, right or left, got cars or not. You should have no problem throwing away your bicycle. Don’t have to consider so many things. As for me, how to throw away the bicycle, when it is my own bike. Douglas, want to advise?

    254. Thanks Ah Kor Douglas. Yes, I would like to learn the basic skills in riding and technic.

Btw, the ride is better now with the raised seat and have mastered climbing up/down the bike correctly.

      Many thanks for volunteering.

    255. Hi Steven @ 314 & 315

I feel so good to hear that you are impressed with my stamina and fitness. They are the rewards from my early morning swims.

However, just got back from seeing the doctor about my calf injury. The ultrasound scan showed that I’ve torn my calf muscle and I’ve got MC for the rest of the week. I need physio treatment to mend the muscle. So, to all you bike riders, do make it part of the routine to do some stretching exercises (especially for the calf and thigh muscles) before you start your rides. It is a very painful injury and you limp around like a “pai kar”.

Furthermore, Steven, it was really good to have met and known you too. I do remember our chat about healthy eating. I will post a list of what foods to eat and what to avoid to help lower cholesterol levels in your healthy eating thread soon.

    256. Dear All Passion Riders,

After so much preparation and hard works putting in by Douglas and all participants, i’m sure all of us already feeling the excitment of riding in Pengarang.

This is really a good opportunity not just to give our body a good work out but also to ride in a different environment. It’s more worthwhile when we are riding with people who have the loves for cycling.

I’m sad to see a few withdrawals, reasons given as unfit or needed more rest. Guys and gals, perhaps you’d like to learn that a recent recce trip was conducted prior to all the trial sessions here. Despite his busy schedule, our EO has taken all necessary steps to ensure that our trip could be an enjoyable and a safe one.

My experience from Tg Pengerang to S.Rengit is truly unforgottable. The total distance is shorter than what u did frm EC to CV. Although we were riding along the road, the traffic were few and hardly any big vehicle passes by. We enjoyed watching chickens and some monkeys playing in the yards but they won’t get in your way. You can expect more than what i can put down here, pls prepare yourself according to instruction and there’s not much to worry about. All general precautions should be excercised at all time as we are all adults, right?

Fyi, Pengarang is very popular to Singapore cyclists who love cycling over there during the weekends , just last saturday alone, ALL bikes from the cycle rental shop in CV were fully booked for this purpose.

Molly; June and Andrew – I hope you’ll make a fast recovery and be with us this Saturday. Am looking forward to seeing all riding together…

      Cheers / Joyce

    257. Hi all,

Sorry if you think i was scaring anyone away so that the remaining people can eat more la, Lina not that. I always think it is better to think of the worst that can happen and be prepared for it. When you are mentally prepared your body can perform better when needed to, so dont get a fright and a heart attack or something like that.

On that same note, I will prepare myself for an overnight stay lah, so if needed to can enjoy that as well. Come back by morning ferry lah ?? Then we can dance the night away, anyone bringing a CD/Mp3 player ?? No need a tent a simple light rain coat can be used as poncho also. Torchlight, pampers, sunblock, etc ? Cheers

    258. Thanks Joyce. Am much better now, but feel like the lungs so perforated from all the coughing this past week :-)) Anyway, I better go for cycle trials next time such cycling trip comes up. I hear of torn calf muscles, throw bike away whn falling etc etc I bit chuak chuak :-))I no more spring chicken. Also don’t want to let EO worry abt me. He has lots on his hands already. Sorry, I very longwinded..but let me salute all EOs again (the past ones, the prsent ones and the future ones). Without them the club is a bore :-))
Hi Andrew, so u are down and out too? Never mind, 3 days u will be fine :-))))

    259. Douglas, I am interested to learn the basic riding skills and technics, pls include me in your list…..so that I will not fall in future cycling activities. Lina, since you “sayang” your bicycle and can’t afford to throw it on the ground, you throw yourself lah ..ha…ha…

      Ah Nee

    260. #317
Haha. Lina, you made me laugh. You mean when we fall we still need to consider which side to throw? Don’t think we hv the time to think about that, if really happens…haha..

I think it’s the other way round, if it’s your own bike, you don’t hv to worry, but becos mine is rental, so the more I hv to worry lah… if broken, must pay them back. :(

Hi Joyce, thanks for the feedback on your “secret” mission with some of them.

Am looking forward to this trip on Sat.

      See yah,

      Suzhang

    261. Hi Douglas,
Both LLP (Caroline) and LKK (Dolly) aft passing with flying colors are now confirmed to join the Pengerang ride this Sat, pls include our names. Hip hip hurray :)

I will make arrangement to pay YK asap.

    262. Dear June

Not down and out, just want to be responsible to self, family and loved ones.

I can still play tennis and will be running my usual thrice weekly 3 km but at a lower speed and intensity. To ensure no torn muscles or strain.

By Grace, very very seldom fall sick. Just have to be wise when the body gives signals to slow down, time to rejuvenate and needs rest.

See you again on Sat, 26 April for tennis.

      Warmest regards

    268. Dear Nor

Thanks for your concern. Last week, possible over-exercised.

Good to receive early signal during tennis games with three veterans last Saturday, to slow down for my body to recover properly.

Enjoy your ride, lunch and fellowship. We can still ride together at another occasion.

I have a tri-colour helmet: silver, grey and red; a common colour – red.

    269. Well, everyone has shared their views and little experiences..just to add that I’m glad and wonderful to have Caroline, Ah Nee, Nor, Lina, Dolly and Susan (Live wire group) joining in, thts g8t & come on Molly, stay on track with all of us lei..bring along your “Koropok”. We will be there to help each other, enjoy the scenic kampong sights, breeze along the coast n most seafood, hehe. We will ensure this GREAT PASSION RIDES to Pengarang will be THE MOST MEMORABLE as we will be 1st SHC Pioneer group. EO Douglas has done a g8t job with the many trial runs on weekends from EC to CV. (patience and self sacrifices, cycles to & fro Simei on every trips – I salute him). Gentle reminder- Passport, SunBlock, Sunglass, Sun Visor or Caps, a small towel, Extra T-shirt, 100plus/mineral water- at least 2 bottles (do not buy in can), Long Sleeve Tees, Helmet & Gloves, Good pair of track/cycling shoe, check & ensure shoe lace is not loose), Rain coat/Poncho and lastly medicated oil (in case cannot tahan the heat). 272. Dear passion riders,

I am ON lah…not so scare now after so much assurance from everyone. Ya lah… this RonW, come & kachau kachau us with his scary stories, etc. apa macam!

Dolly & Caroline – a big salute to both of you for having “passed” with flying colors that day… Even though all of us complained about the long distance & how hot we suffered under the blazing sun, I am sure most of us felt it was challenging that we managed to complete the journey to & fro.

Thanks Douglas for sacrificing your time with us. We will definitely support you.

#310 -Douglas, I am interested. Pls include me.

Boon Liang, thanks for being our pointer. Am sure when we need help, you will be there for us. So sad.. :( JohnH wont be able to make it this trip. John, dont drool when we are having anak lobster ya !!

Ok, I am all excited & looking forward to seeing everyone this Sat.

      Good nitzzz

      Susan

    273. Hi Passionate Riders

      Ron Oz –

Thank you for the fellowship with us shcian Pty Ltd, singapore branch. We enjoyed your company very much.

You are a better rider than some of us considering that we are just a bit younger than you. You over-stretch yourself becos you were riding too fast. Take care and do some stretching exercise for your sore muscle.

    274. Susan

when you are about to fall off the bike, just let go off the bike handle and let the bike roll/fall off.

DO NOT hold on to the handle and fall with the bike. Don’t sayang the bike. Let go, I rather have a damange bike than be injured.

Hold the bike handle lightly just like your steering wheel, don’t squeeze the bike handle tightly with you palms becos after prolong rides, when you shake hands, you will be squeezing the other person’s hand tightly and may injured his hand.

You have to learn how to mount the bike and move off from a stationary position. How to apply minimum pressure for maximun force, this is where the gears comes into play.

      Caroline

You have improved but with constance practice, you will be a better rider.
The bike seat has to be at a certain height for better riding. You now realised the different.

      Ah Nee,Carol,Susan,Lina,Dolly –

will highlight bike technics for a safer ride when we meet again.

    275. BoonLiang @337..
Glad that u r coming along..poor Eliza tak boleh join!
Aiyo..so many barangs to bring ah?
      Only bring sunglasses,poncho,sunbloc,small towel…sudah lah..oopps!..passport & Ringgit..most important.

      ahnee say yahoooo!..i replied..yabadabadoooo!!

      Ok lah..everybody tido oredi..zzzzzz

    276. Hi Douglas,

Are you finding replacements for those who dropped out. If so , I heard John and Eunice had their names up in the reserve list but somehow or other their names were left out totally. So John and Eunice can consider joining in and in a way help those who could not make it to have their refund if this is arrangeable ??
I know you and Eunice have cycled there before and also knows how the lobsters should be cooked or eaten. So let us hear from you.
For those who had dropped out, please don’t think it was intentional by the stories that i shared, in fact Tim in #97 mentioned them before but it did not scare anyone ?
About roaring trucks and getting out of the way.
If there is one thing i looked forward to is the long strech of seaside and lobsters on the table. Nor Indah, you better stop at one lobster else you will become Nor Susah, and Ah Nee becomes Ah Nui and Lina becomes Bigna.. but with trip back ,ok another 2 more lobster(baby) also can lah. Preparing myself to exercise and diet now.Cheers

    277. Dear Ronald and all

Your “warning story” did not scare me except to be beware and alert of possibilities.

I listened to my body and decide to do the next appropriate thing : to rest it for complete rejuvenation.

All blessings and well wishes to my 24 friends who will be at Pengarang for a well earned holidays. You have our prayers in Singapore. ENJOY !

We shall cycle together at another occasion.

      Warmest regards

      ???

    278. Hi AndrewK,

Thanks for taking what i say in the right light, as i always believe the flock of birds that fly together will do better with one or 2 birds that seems to be wandering in and out fo the group. There serve as scouts, giving early warning of dangers, bad weather, birds of prey ,etc. At times they are the first to be sacrifised to be the decoy.

Partly also being in the military for over 33 years, having contingency plans A,B and C is somehow ingrained in me.

But is good to know though some were frighten a little but they have also been toughen mentally and now phsically by ‘Douglas’ on tips on how to fall. There is always a need to know how to fall in everything we do, even in life and love.
In fact in Judo, the first thing you learn is how to break your fall.

So now, I can look to an enjoyable trip, nice stretch of sea breeze, company of friends and a good seafood galore lunch (but not mini lobsters)as everyone now seems to be ready for this getaway adventure. Trust me, I have the safety at heart of everyone, even though I know Douglas and all of the rest have the same at heart too. But I always believe, with everyone sharing what they know it will better for the group, as everyone see different aspects of things.

So allow me to go on, making this the hottest topic of the year.

HOw come in #97 Tim wrote “It does hurt the butt (even a seasoned butt like Lina’s) and calls for a lot of alertness as the (few?) vehicles roar past. Which
means that while folks can ride alongside each other to chat, they must be quick to swerve back into a single file once the revv of an engine is heard. ” and none of you were scared ??

So I must be good scary story writer lah? ? Andrew Yeung must thank you for the story writing part. So I must as well add another 2 more stories, real life stories that happen in Northern Thailand just last Nov period during the heavy monsoon season.

Both incidents happened without anyone expecting that it can happen as these 2 place of tourist attractions were very popular and well patronised.

So even during the continuing heavy rains that stretch for a few days, these 2 tourist spots were still open on that specail Thai holiday. Two rather nfortunate
but on hindsight expected incidents appened which many wondered how it could have happen with numerous safety checks and measures in place.

One favorite spot was the waterfall, which suddenly had one of the high banks on top of he cliff giving way, due to heavy rains that ironically had stopped on that day.
What many did not expect was day, the ground after days of being stressed gave way.
The second spot was a favorite ride by a sort of long narrow boat in a caves. Again due to over flow of water, those who went in the caves were suddenly caught off guard by the rising tide and had no way to
      escape out of the caves.

So AndrewK, with your prayers and all our training and precautions, we can look now to a good, fun and enjoyable trip. And I do admire you for standing up to withdraw based on listening to your body, at our age it is better to be left out than be sorry. Cheers to all.

    279. Ah Nee and Company
      (Lina, Molly,Susan,Dolly and Caroline, Nor),

Happy to hear that you all made it to CV with a breeze. I am sure we will have great fun on the 12th.

Dolly – Jie You -we shall all make it-together!
Molly – Hope you will recover quickly so that you can come join us.

D’Tg Pengareng .. here we come .. hee hee :P

      Cheers, Grace Kok

      Grace..Yes! that’s the spirit we want..common everybody..we can do it!..just do it!

    289. Hi passionate riders

Most of you had done the trial run from McDonald to Changi V. These trial runs were to prepare you mentally and physcially for the ride from Tg Pengarang to Sg Rengit.

I am very touched by the determination and courage shown by some of the girls who really tested their limits because of the keen interest in this ride to Sg Rengit.

During the trials, some fell and got bruises, some had serious injuries but still they attended and pushed on and overcome the fear of the unknown ride to Pengerang. Some held in awe when they saw the endless Changi Park Connector, it was frightening as it was so long, yes it was, but no longer now because you had been there and done that.

Changi Park connector is acturally longer than the runway. You have conquered it liao, The return journey from CV to McDonald surprisingly looks so short. alamak, didn’t realise that. The legs and butts may feel sore, but the good feeling effects will always remain.

My orginal plan was to have 12 riders which I know its easy to manage but than the response grew so how to turn away those who were able to complete the trial runs.

Due to the great response, I had to seek four kakis as point man to assist in the planning. The four were Rene, Joyce, Boon Liang and Dennis. We did a recce on 22 Mar, 1 week before D&D. Thank you all point man.

We had seafood lunch at Restoran Seafood Sg Emas,Sg Rengit. 2 table for 12 April had been reserved. Nor,Nor, we were informed, food is halal. apa macham, boleh.

I would like to say SORRY to all those who fell, got injuried ,muscle pull, loose knee cap, flatten pamelo, sunburns, cuts and bruises, apa lagi, while undergoing the trial runs.

Thank you for standing up. We ride this Sat’s from Tg Pengerang to Sg Rengit.

      Regards

    290. Alamak want to tutup mata oredi then saw u said food is halal…saya tau lah…most food in Msia semua halal!..if not tak ada bizness!

Thank you Doug..now really wanna tido hor..selamat malam..& mimpi indah!

    291. Hi Bikers,

Enjoy the ride and food at Penggarang.
So disappointed that I will not be able to join you all as I still need to recover from my injury.

      Have fun.

    292. Kesian, Molly, still nursing on the injury hor.. Hope u will b recovering soon…

Nor sayang, I tot I read sumwhere abt 7-11 bikers so concluded dat both Carly n I sure failed 1, hence can oli join 881 – hehehe.. typo error in earlier comt lor..

    293. Take care Molly and you can join us for the next bicycle ride.

As a teenager at 12, when I know first how to ride, I was WORSE than you.My bike almost went into the drain with my legs trapped . I called for help. Luckily, my neigbours hear my scream tolong ! tolong and pulled me and bike up.Nothing to paiseh about.

It is thru mistakes that one learns and be better the next time.

    294. Dear Douglas

I have the feeling of missing this trip alot.

But my instincts told me thrice to rejuvenate and rest my left thigh. When I first called you on Sunday afternoon reluctantly, I remembered a couple of my RI classmates, national athletes, who refused to rest despite of early warnings.

They had surgeries and took months to recover. Their performances were never the same.

I might join you folks for breakfast and see the shop/choice of bikes available there at Changi, this Saturday morning at 7am, possibly have a shorter cycling ride (P Ubin) with Aileen.

      See ya.

    295. Aiyoh, GraceK, Dolly, Steven, Caroline, Douglas, Nor and everyone cycling to Tg Pengerang, I really envy you all.

I really must try cycling again, now that my bruises have gone and the fear of falling is not so sharp.

Have fun riding to Tg Pengerang. Take care. :-)

    296. Dear Douglas,

Is my pleasure to be one of your point man.

Thank you for encouraging me to be back on life track. Was a breeze cycling along the runway. Compared to Dick’s love for Rick to overcome his disability, I felt very very little.

Big man who is guilty conscience are unable to get back on their feet and face the world.

      Rene

    297. correction @370

Man can overcome ‘Disabilities’ with faith, strength and determination but not ‘Guilt’. One is unable to get back on his feet and shame to face the world.

    298. Dear Molly

A pity you cannot recover on time for the trip. Dont fret. I am sure there will be other opportunities for another riding escapade.

For now, nurse your injury and get well soon.

      Take care

      Warmest Regards

      Caroline Gee

    299. Wei wei Dolly. You are right. We can only be in 881 not 7-11. One way already one to die apa macam.

But then we have so many bikers ready to encourage, push, pull, carry, “chang kuda”, whatever, its worth taking the chance.

      See you all soon :)

      Caroline Gee

    300. Well said, Rene

When and where there are love, joy and peace with determination, focus, discipline and diligence, all difficulties and obstacles will disappear.

They become precious lessons and worthwhile invaluable experience.

Out of them, are blessings and no lack for the faithfuls.

See you folks soon and at next cycling trip after I have fully recovered.

      Cheers,

    301. Dear cycling buddies:

I was looking forward to the joy and excitement of this cycling trip but unfortunately had to withdraw from it as my mother is unwell. The test trip on 5 April held promises of a fun-filled day that’s going to come our way. I’m going to miss all that, no doubt about it.

Susan: Ya lor, I’m not going to feast on the anak lobster that’s on the menu. The best you can do is take a bite for me every time you take one. Ok?

Incidentally, please keep a constant lookout for our dear LLP and LKK, hor. Make sure they are always in sight. Dolly and I were at the tail end, looking like lost sheep, during the test trip. The rest were nowhere in sight. Luckily, the track ended at the water, so we were able to find our way back to rejoin the group.

I really envy all of you. Can only hope for a miracle to allow me to participate. In the meantime, have fun and a great day at Pengerang.

      Cheers and take care!

    302. Muacks muacks, Ah John, har nor, LLP n me were talkg abt tis last nite who will b knight enuf 2 exchg bike wif us, if urs not good if u r not ard.. but now, hor, sin u officially ask them 2 lookout for LLP n LKK den we r vry safe liao..

But hor, if Susan is going 2 take extra bite on anak lobster on ur bhaf, like dat, she sure 2 kena or bak cak 1 leh.. cos she is taking 2 shares meh.. tio bo.. u 1 2 hai her har.. no good leh…

    303. “Rejuvenate”…..big word; “recover”…simple small & correct word to use but wont show that he was from RI where he spent only 2 years but he talks like 20 year, too ashamed to even mention once of the secondary school which nurtured him for 4 years, to just make the cut for RI………………

      (Kinky Solomonk)

    304. Molly dear, hope you are much better now, surely will miss your presence this saturday’s Pengarang cycling trip, but nvm, we will have fun again on the Kelong Trip. So take care and see you soon. :)

      Ah Nee

    305. #375
Hi John, hope you are coping well. Kesian rite, you can’t go but still have to worry so much for us. I wish you are there with us too, so I don’t hv to eat your share of the anak lobster lah… too high in cholestrol u noe…

Incidentally, who is your LLP & LKK that we need to look out for ?

      #376, Dolly, can you take John’s share ? ..ha.ha..

    306. Hi Ah Nee

Molly besides nursing her injury has another bigger task to do….

Molly, hope you are feeling much better. Don’t exert yourself with too many activities ya. Pls get well soon for our next week trip together. Don’t forget you are the driver and we depend on you for a safe journey there.

      Take care,
      Susan

    307. Hi Pengerang cyclists

Because I am on MC and very “eng”, I have checked the weather forecast for you. The forecast for Johor Bahru for Saturday is scattered thunderstoms. I just hope that the thunderstorms don’t scatter to Pengerang and you have an enjoyable ride. May be a good idea to pack a poncho just in case.

    312. Dolly, your muacks, muacks si simi? And then Caroline, yours is muah, muah. Apa ini?

Aiya, Suzhang, I shouldn’t answer in public who LLP and LKK are? Next time when I see you, I will whisper in your ear,ok? If you can’t wait, maybe Ah Nee knows. Ya, Dolly, is right. I don’t want you to kena or pak kak. So, you just split your portion into 3 and when you eat, you say, 1 for Molly, 1 for John and 1 for yourself. Haha.

Caroline, I felt good doing what I did for you. It’s certainly a pleasure to be able to help relieve you of your hae hae. Sure, I’ll be more than happy to ride with you and the gang again.

Ride on, buddies! Have a pleasant trip! (I can only sigh. So sad)

      Take care,

      Susan

    326. Molly, a friend of mine suggested doing this for a bad cough.
Rub some vicks on both soles of your feet and put on socks. Keep them on for the whole night. Try it and see if it helps.
I think you should get something from the doctor to control the cough.
      Take care

    327. Dear all passionate riders,

I have an enjoyable time with all of you today in Pengerang. Thanks Douglas & all his assigned pointers for making this event a memorable & unforgetable ride for all.

It was really an experience to be riding on a strange land and away from home. :) Glad that I made it even though I experience a little cramp while riding back. I would also like to thank Douglas & Yew Kwong for helping me.

Thanks to all the guys, especially Douglas, YK, Boon Liang & Dennis for helping us with the loading & unloading of all our bikes onto the ferry.
Thank to young Brian for giving us a helping hands too. :)

Douglas, thanks again for giving us the assurance and confidence, without much we gals wont be able to complete this ride.
Your detailed plannings for this Pengerang trip also helps.

I must say, overall everything was great. The weather was in our favour, even though there was a slight drizzle, but it was cool & and nice after that. :)(much better than last sat’s the ride to CV )

Looking forward to more of this ride again.

      Cheers,
      Suzhang

    328. Dear all 24 of you who had successfully completed your adventurous trip :

Met Yew Kwong, Douglas, Lina, Grace Kok and son, Boon Liang at the Changi Village after my dinner just now.

      They were tired but happy.

Look forward to the next organised trip(s).

    329. Hello all the Super24 riders,

I was so happy when I reached the jetty after the 36 km ride, I shouted to Suzhang who was in front of me that WE MADE IT !!!! yahoooo…..

Thank you Douglas for making this Trip possible and all the guys for carrying the bikes up & down the boat. It was an enjoyable & fun cycling Trip. Have passport will ride, Sat 12 April 2008.

      Ah Nee

    330. Thanks Douglas Ah Koh for the wonderful time today.

I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Your appointed “helpers” were really great. All of them were most help especially in helping us carry the bikes for us, making sure we were all right all the way.

And my hats off to you for being so patient with some of us who were like slow coaches.

Fine weather, good company and those tau sa pia and be teh soh are so good.

      Verdict: EXCELLENT!

      Warmest Regards

      Caroline Gee

    331. Hi Molly,

….it is the ribs that is still hurting when hard coughing or sneezing.

The symptoms that you had described above sounds like you have a slight hairline fracture to your ribs.

Go for X-ray to allay your fears.

      Take good care,
      Steven Chan

    332. Hi Molly

If your rib(s) hurt, you ought to have immediate thorough medical check-ups. Esp if they involved also bones.

Please go to CGH specialty clinic asap.

      Warmest regards

    333. Hi All,
Thank you everyone for your concern. I will be going to the doctor next week for checkup. Hope all turns out well so can enjoy my kelong trip.
      He..he..he

    334. Thank you Douglas and his assistants for a good cycling trip and for doing all the loading and unloading of bicycles. We girls were fortunate as we did not have to lift a finger.

Thank you Carly for your sugared ginger and Dolly for your Lavendar scented heat powder which gave an air-conditioned feeling in an otherwise, humid, warm day.

Nor, Gingko saw our cycling photos on Boon Liang’s handphone and gave our vain pot “Aminah” another name. She said Charlifah was a better name!! Ha..ha..ha.. You like the name?

    335. A very BIG Thank you to EO Douglas and the rest of the team leaders,Renee ,Yew Kwong,Boon Liang and Dennis the Adorable for making this event a great success and WONDERFUL memories for all of us. They even took the trouble to sacrifice their time and effort to recee the route to ensure our safety.

Although we are in our lates 45s to 60s,as Mary has pointed out age is just a number. We are still YOUNG at HEART and able to endure the long and tiring 36km. under hot sun,no shady trees along the roads as in our ECP connector path to Changi Village and we had 1 member with call name Charlifah, a Geylang Bapok joining us.

The other 1/2 of journey,we were blessed with some rain that cools down our sweat soak bodies like in a steam sauna.

Ron Wie,next time pls. do not “scare” members with your stories of speeding lorries and cars that cut into the bicyclist lane.

As long as we are cycling along the cyclist track and keep to 1 single file and lookout for motorists,we are SAFE.
Moreover, most of the journey is so straight with just 1 right turn to Sungai Renggit.

How can we be lost under the watchful eyes of our EO and team leaders ?

Thanks Lina for bringing us where to buy freshly made direct baked from the oven tau sa pia and be teh soh. The ta sia pau was so fluffy and the melted sugar was just nice, just sweet enough.YUMMY!

Thanks to Boon Liang , the back cyclist to ensure that we do not go off track and volunteer to carry my heavy bag filled with 1.5l of 100+ isotonic drink and 4 extra T-shirts to change along the way.

Thanks to everyone for the great fellowship and looking 4 ward to another EXCITING and ADVENTUROUS trip to
      Desaru ? Douglas Ok?

I would like to ENCOURAGE more SHCians to join us in this FUN activity and esp.for those who are fat or obese, this is a more HEALTHY and BETTER way than taking slimming pills or embark in expensive slimming programmes that cost 1000s of $.

Pls. do not take as an offence of the above para but to speak my mind. And it is up to you to agree or disagree.

Btw,Yew Kwong pls. post our officially SHC stamped cycling trip photos in SHC website of Pengarang besides sending to our individual emails.

      With Appreciation.
      S.C.

    336. Hi RonW,

Luckily, I went to Pengerang to check it out myself. Road is wide and straight. No taxis trying to kill us lah, Ron. Don’t exaggerate. In fact, the cars all ‘siam’ when we cycle. How not to ‘siam’ when we are in such a big group.

But did not see black chicken leh. Maybe too busy on the lookout for that killer taxi. Steven, you are most welcome.

    337. Hi Lina,

…But did not see black chicken leh. Maybe too busy on the lookout for that killer taxi.

I saw a few kampong chicken running around in the front gardens of the kampongs.

      Did you come across any?

Btw, black chicken has white weather but black flesh. Strange indeed I thought it has black feather instead ie why called black chicken.

    338. Hi Douglas and all certified SAC Pengarang members. SAC stands for Singapore Adventure Club, but in this it stands for Senior Adv Club.
It is definitely not an easy thing to organise such a trip, and especially with Douglas being very accommodating in accepting anyone who wishes to join in. The responsibility is very high and sometimes the organiser can cave in to demands from groups of people, in wanting their friends who may not be prepared for such trips.

So Steven, about the scary stories it is meant with good intentions to weed out those who do not have the basic riding skills and those who not prepared yet.
Accidents occur when over confidence or when complacency sets in, and after being o n this trip, I see that it is that road certainly deserves some caution. On the good side of the scary stories it did puch many people to make a greater effort to trained harder, improve their basic riding skills and also to be mentally prepared. Steven you are a good guy to be with on a trip, can see you from a mile away, a good beacon. Only concern with you please do not make loud verbal negative comments that the locals can hear, this may just incite some locals to rob us or whatever out of anger.

So thanks again to Douglas and his team of passion riders to sacrifice their love of cycling to organise this trip.
I know it is a different thing all together to ride as such passion riders, pushing the limits and conquering new peaks of performance. So thanks for this special effort of sharing your passion of cycling with us all, coaching the many trials and the recce trip.
Cheers to SSAC, Douglas the Chairman or President, how about next Desaru overnight trip ???

    339. Steven @ #425

Incredible. We grew up with black chicken in our herbal diet. And people were actually looking for black feathers!!!

Little wonder. There are those still putting their money into FDs and Aunty Trusts. Hee hee

“The Silkie is a variety of chicken believed to have originated in eastern Asia. Silkies generally have a fluffy appearance due to their feathers lacking functioning barbicels; essentially, all their feathers are very much like down. Their unique appearance and their quiet temperament mean they are often kept as pets.”

They lay eggs for your breakfast and provides a healthy tonic if you bear to eat your pets.
The Black-Bone Silky Fowl is a special bird in China. As a kind of folk invigorant and a source of traditional Chinese medicine, the chicken is used to reinforce body immunity and protect from emaciation and feebleness. It also treats diabetes, anemia, menstrual cramps and postpartum disorders.

Anybody for a black chicken rice dish for 1st May SHC flea market?

I was going try keep some of these beautiful birds for pets. But the chicken flu scare complicated the matter. See here for a nice photo.
      http://www.physorg.com/news77370660.html

Chickens are like politicians. White feathers with black inside. Black feathers with white inside. Put them in a white coop and you will have a recipe for global mess.

    340. Ron # # 427

Simple. If you can’t prevent the inherent risks, learn to manage the risks better.

Black bicycles followed by white van.

    341. Hi Steven

      Say glorious and blissful things.

Colours are wavelengths visible to the eyes.

Who determines that they are for funeral: man-made religion of bondage.

Every colour has its significance and meaning.

      Cheers,

      KYL, Andrew

    342. Dear all passionate riders

I must admit its not easy to organise this ride with riders having various riding standards.

This is a favourite cyclists route for Singaporean, its quite safe as motorists always gives way to cyclists. There are no hills to challenge, it is an easy ride as the road is similar to Changi PC.

The ride was successful because all of you make it a success. We enjoyed each others laughters and fellowship, we shared our tiried bodies, powdered each others back and give comfortable words of encouragement. we help one another on loading and unloading the bikes from and to the ferry.

Thank you Boon Liang,Dennis,Joyce and Rene for being an excellent team leader.

We will always remember this first oversea ride from Tg Pengerang to Kg Sungei Rengit,

      cheers,

    343. Hi All,
      1) I would like to give mine my thanks for Douglas for never ending patience to let us join in the cycling track overseas.

      2) I would also like to extend my greatest thanks for all team leaders (Group1 and Group2)for their good coordination and kind guidances rendered to all of us during this trip.

      3) Next, I also would thank new members for being so accomodative evendoe they are season cyclists as compared to ‘new bird’ like us. They never did 1 said that we are not qualified 2 join but always ever ready to welcome/encourage us.

I enjoyed this cycling trip very much despite the fact the RonWie earlier warning fo cars, bike, dangers, ete, etc..

I also especially proud of the fact that we accomplished the ride at much earlier timing dat Douglas had planned for us.. Is’t we are glad hor – Caroline hor… Imagine le.. LLP and LLK still can ‘cheong’ hor…

Last, but not the least, I enjoyed this trip very much with every one of you..

Once again, thanks Douglas and his team of passion riders… Hip hip hurray… :)

    344. Hi Ah Nee

Yes, we are now the super 24 riders who rode oversea and had our passports stamped by the Malaysian Immigration at “Tg Pengelih” and not at “Johore Bahru”

Nee, glad you have overcome your fear, see no sea sickness and no puking.

SuZhang – glad you also overcome your fear on road cycling. The ride was shorter compare to the ride from McD to CV.
The return journey also seem very very short.rite?

Lina – alamak, I miss seeing the the wild boar,(I love eating wild boar meat esp. roasted one) but I saw a few monkeys, black cow and kampong chicken.

    345. Carol Ah Mai – Thanks leh, you are not a slow rider, you were just enjoying your ride.

Dolly – wow, riding with you can really stretch my distance without realising it, you are a good joker, thanks for being sporting.

    346. Hi Steven,#422

Hey, don’t make me laugh leh! Laughed until my tummy ached last night, now you still want me to laugh. Please lah, Clarifah is not a Geylang Bapok. He is from our Pengerah cycling. You have to ask Gingko or Nor for the answer. Nor, thank you for the rambutans and jambus.

Dolly, remember to buy the heat powder OK, then we’ll use it when we go to the Kelong this Sat.. Dennis W, you can borrow the powder from me OK, and use it wherever you want, lah.

Ah Nee, Han’s Gathering and Thai Disco is on Thursday and not Wed.. So apply leave on Friday, OK.

    347. Aiyo, Douglas, i noe i noe lah.. u bo bian lah.. I was sharing wif caroline aft d ride while blo blo at her plc dat wenever u ask me 2 rise d bike seat abit higher, i always mai lah mai lah until on rtn less than 15mins, I finally asked u 2 rise higher, wahpiangz, reli so ez 2 ride aft all, legs not so tired lor.. Regret not listen 2 sifu’as adv earlier.. stubborn as a mule lor..

Hai, Lina, dun worry, I remember d ‘pang pang’ heat powder lah but den tis am, i wen 2 regular shop aft brisk walkg, they told me no stock for S size 1 only left wif M size 1 n said dat stock will arrive next wk lor.. I will definitely try 2 get them 4 u lor, either S or M size 4 kelong use first ok..

Yalo, ANee, u blur blur liao har.. mixed up with date..

    348. Lina & Dolly,

“Har nor”, too many events & dates lor. Every monday when I report to work, I “chuak chuak” leh, quickly check office calendar & SHC calendar, trying very hard to remember them. So the monthly gathering is on Thurs huh, follow by Thai Disco….and then Kelong….”Wow pianz wei” people around me keep saying nowsaday I so active and “hip” leh, thats why today I very “kwai”, whole day stay at home and look at the 4 walls & climb up and down & KLKK…so boring lor :(

      Ah Nee

    349. Lina @ #436

Goodness, last night I really laughed till I teared. Luckily no denture!

How come today, there is C..l..arifah? Is this the Geylang Bapok you and Steven found? C..h..arifah is the beauty in your Pengerah trip la. If you go on like that, I will continue laughing even in my dreams tonight…

    350. Ah Nee,

You very li hai. Today you so kwai, stayed home n looked at 4 walls, climbed up n down n KLKK. And found all these activities so boring. Lu chin kiang cho hee. By the end of the week they will say to each other: “we have been fooled!” Hahaha, clever Ah Nee!

I have one suggestion for you. Next time go round and look at all your neighbours’ walls, then won’t be so boring lor.

Alamak, looks like you have become the latest victim of the Terence syndrome, getting your dates mixed up. Tomorrow be more alert ok?

Glad that all of you had a great Pengerang outing without any mishap. Congratulations! Sad that I wasn’t part of the action! Well done, especially to Suzhang, Caroline and Dolly. All your fears and concerns simply melted away in the Pengerang sun! I’m so proud and happy for you. Muacks, muacks, muah, muah!

I must tell you all something. A few hours after your Pengerang outing, three of the members were already dancing rock n roll and singing “A Hard Day’s Night”. Can you guess which three? These three really run on super-charged alkaline.

Till we meet again, have a good week ahead everybody.

    351. Everybody tido oredi, now then i got chance to yak a bit..if not later busy in ofis, no time to cakap2.

Firstly wanna thank EO Douglas & his team leaders for organising & took real good care of us.Its a breeze cycling & enjoying the seaview & greeneries..with only little showers on the way back…no sweat!

Lina…the correct spelling for the vain Aminah is Sharifah..bcos he wore a tudong!..he must look very decent & demure sweet kampong girl!

Even we don see any black chickens..we saw black cows looking at us seem like asking..”what are u people doing sebok2 & bising2 in my kampong”!..hahaha..but when i want to photoshoot..alamak cameran tak ada pulak!

Steven @422…its not a tiring 36km lah..only yr legs too long,so maybe the bike don suit u?

    353. Hi Dolly,

Not to worry. If you cannot get nevermind. Have one at home but not Lavender Scented. Just the normal one.

Gingko, don’t laugh anymore today. Otherwise, you might fall off your chair!Sorry wrong spelling. Should be Charlifah! (My keys are sticky.) Concentrate on your work today, OK.

John H, what’s the prize for guessing all the 3 correctly? If it’s a ‘muah’ then I’m not guessing. You try to come to the Thai disco, OK.

Ah Nee, so you not only active, but promoted to “hip” oso. You are really cute!!

    354. Hi Pengerang riders

    355. Hi Nor at #141,

…… Eh..cannot say pple fat & obese u know…very sensitive issue..maybe more diplomatic words like…if u wanna lose some extra kgs..this is the way to exercise.

Ya lah. Sometimes too direct with comments but meant no harm.Must learn more from kak Nor.

Awak banyak “diplomatic” are you working in the Public Relations department?

    356. Douglas and all you dedicated cyclists. I really enjoy reading your thread.
Your ride to Tg Pengerang is a great achievement. I can only read about it and imagine what it’s like. I don’t know if I will ever pick up enough courage to do something like that, but it makes me more determined to practise my cycling, which I will, as soon as I can make myself get a bike, hehe, whether rented or bought.
Hope to join you all again one day. :-)

    357. Hi Mary Chan,

If Grace K can do it, so can you!!

Ron-Oz, the term ‘overseas assignment’ sound so professional. But we only cycling, leh, on 2 wheels, not by aeroplane to do some assasination job.

    358. Haha Lina,
GraceK is a league away from me. I still wobble and after the 2 falls I had, I’m nervous about getting on a bike again, although I WILL try again.
      Thanks for your encouragement. :-)

    359. Hello Steven,

      Cheers, Grace Kok

    365. Hi Douglas,

Heard that …your PIP (plan in progress)to cycle to Desaru very soon ? ????

Pls. do NOT have it on 27Sept ’08 as I do NOT want to MISS out this EXCITING and THRILLING Cycling to Desaru and overnight too.

On the 27th Sept , it clashes with my SHC Chilli Padi Dinner Buffet which I am organising for SHcians and needed to be around to ensure all go smoothly.
