A fast way to contact dancers via SMS

Let’s say you have organised a dancing event for this Saturday night.  And you would like to contact other SHCians who love dancing.   So, you write a Post, inviting members to attend.  Then, you complain that this website does not permit telephone numbers to be published.  And, not everybody reads this website every week.  So, some would miss out on the event.

Well, the Event Organiser can now inform "Registered and Interested" dancers via the SHC sms system.  Here’s how I think it can be done.

  1. The Event Organiser must be a familiar face at SHC monthly gatherings; and members know him/her.  Must have been a SHC member for at least 6 months.  Your date of joining is prefixed to your registered name.
  2. The Event Organiser must write a Post on the dance event, on this website.  If needed, the EO can request Admin to send an sms to inform the registered dance group.
  3. All SHCians who love to be informed of any dancing event can register their names with the sms server.  Those who do not register will NOT receive the SMS.  You can de-register anytime.  For more details of the dance event, the member must still check the Post on this website.  How?  I shall inform you this week.

Notes:

  • SHC will not release any telephone numbers of members.  Members will only be informed via SMS; the EO will not know your telephone number.
  • The EO will have to compose and send the SMS message to me, max 120 characters.

This service will also be made available to other sports, hobbies or interest groups, if there is sufficient interest.   Strictly no politics, race, sex, religion, direct selling and MLM.

    Thanks you for coming up with such a good idea! Do register me. Your suggestion is good but may be more tedious and it certainly save us cost on trying to individually sms each dancer.

    Of late, a few group of dancers have on their own organizes smaller group to go jamming. These impromptu jam depend on email and sms.

    Let’s wait for more responses to get it off the ground!

  5. Let’s start with the Dancing kakis first. SHCians who would like to be alerted of dancing events (not classes) via sms, can register as follows:

    sms Dance “your full name” “postal code” to 9178-7097.

    You should get a response from the SMS system within a minute or two.

    Good to have you raised your hand for the job of SMS manager. I should be able to put up the tasks of the SMS manager, sometime before the middle of the year. I am looking for two persons, and the term would be two years.

    The job is not difficult, although creativity would be key. Catch up then.

  9. Well, we have started with the “Dance Kakis”. This Dance Kakis group can be informed via SMS if there is an event, not a class.

    Next week, we are going to launch other Kakis groups, where there has been expressed interests. Besides informing members on this forum, organisers can inform the Kakis group via SMS. Please note the SMS system is rather stupid, and will not chat with you. The system will only acknowledge your registration in the kakis group, and if there is an activity, it will inform the whole kakis group via sms. If you like to add other groups, please mention the suggestion here. The planned groups are:

    Dance – Can be line, ball, social.
    Mahjong – You must have a place, then you can invite.
    Tennis – play with other like-minded tennis enthusiats.
    Badminton – healthy exercise.
    Swimming – shy to swim alone. Try the swim kakis.
    Movie – Need a friend to see the latest movie in town.
    Coffee – chit chit chat, high tea, anytwhere.
    Bowling – Every ready to bowl, outside the longkang.
    Fishing – Loves pond, kelong and deep sea fishing.
    Mensnight – For men who prefers meeting in secret.
    Johore – For those who loves shopping, eating in JB.
    Malacca – for those who loves going to Malacca.
    Karaoke – for those who love to croak anytime.
    Cycling – cyling
    Walking – walk walk
    Shares – stocks & shares discussion
    Forex – forex discussion
    Crafts – arts, crafts, hobbies
    Business – small business

    The above Kakis list will close end of Dec 2008. Got a suggestion, please add them here.
