Monthly walk: 14Nov, Singapore River bank

This is posted on behalf of Serene.  Her post, since Friday morning, remains in the "Pending Review" She did re-post and it went to the "Draft"; none appear in the SHC website.

Date: 14 November 2009 (Saturday)

Meeting Place: River View Hotel Lobby, Havelock Road (opposite Miramar/Copthorne Kings Hotel)
Bus #s: 51, 64, 123, 186 (both directions, along Havelock Road).

Start Time: 4.30pm
Duration: about 2 hours.

EOs for this walk: Serene Low and ChristinaCL Chan

The Singapore River forms a central artery in Singapore’s densely packed Central Business District packed ith skyscrapers, old-style bridges, historical buildings, and the nightlife-along the riverside streets of Boat Quay, Clarke Quay and Robertson Quay.

The walk will begin from River View Hotel.  We will walk along the riverbanks, you will see the lighted ambience on the fringes of all the various "Quays"; upmarket condominiums, fine cuisine dining, drinking bars, manicured landscape, boutique bridges, paved walkways and river cruisers line the banks of the Singapore River.

On reaching Empress Place, we will cut across to the Merlion via Fullerton Hotel.  On this side of the waterfront, you will see the almost completed majestic 3 hotels of the IR.  We will stop here for some photo shoots and fresh air.  Then we shall continue the scenic walk across Esplanade Drive towards our endpoint…….. Esplanade Mall / Marina Leisureplex to absorb the great Christmas light up and feel the ecstatic mood of the festive season.

Rain or shine, the walk shall proceed.  Bring along an umbrella or rain coat for potential showers.  Don’t forget your camera, drinking bottle, sun block, a hat and walking sneakers.

A lovely walk in the city by the river you will not forget – see ya!   emoticon

Since you are helping to update the participant list, I will leave it in your good hands. Please include Angie Ng in the list.

She says she still have problem to login with new password. Perhaps you like to look into it as well.

    Thanks.

  6. Hi Christina,

“Chinese class” is ancient history and you can still remember the participants! Excellent memory! :)

  8. Dear Yew Kwong & Terence #34 #36,

Thanks for the clarification. I have said in #33 ‘I am no longer anxious’ since matter cleared.

YK, thanks for bringing up the post to the top page!!

  9. Thank you all for coming to the walk. Because of the crowd and possible “distraction” on the route, plse let the EOs know if you decide to divert away. We will do a head count at the Merlion and proceed further.

Yew Kwong, thanks for the updated list. Plse continue, this is appreciated.

  10. Hi ChristinaCL #33,

Thanks for your feedback on someone editing your Post. We understand your concern that the SHC website may have gone cranky, as as Yew Kwong has pointed out, well, it sometimes misbehaves. This website is administered by Yew Kwong, and during the term of his role, he exercises full discretion over all contents in the forum.

Hope the doubt is clear. As EO of the walk, you will have our cooperation.

    Terence Seah

  11. #33 Dear Terence

Yes, I wld totally agree if author needs to be informed if original contents part or whole have been edited. In this case, I dont because it’s the updating of name list. Why? The name list is impt as it will be filed later on by the Club Manager for record purposes.

When a member posts an article, he or she may request for “edit” feature to update post. Usually it is given. Other than that all members’ status are equal except the authorised few. After event had ended, the edit feature is reverted to normal. This prevents unwarranted changes to contents of post at any point of time.

In Serene’s post under review, there wasnt any content. Until Christina’s post ws up then it ws deleted. Till today, posts done by some members occasionally went blank. Dolly, Sam n me had this experience.

  12. # 31 Dear Terence,

    The facts:

First, I was surprised when I saw the participants’ list. My first thought was “how come Serene could access my post?” A call to her told me that it was not her.

#14,,,, courteously I enquired,,,,, no response yet mysteriously my post gets updated, I was anxious because 4 names were omitted.

#20 still no response! Yet again my post gets updated, faster than I acknowledged the comments.

5Nov After I wrote a post, realized the PUBLISH button was not found. A day later, the PUBLISH button re-appeared.

6Nov Serene wrote this post on Friday morning. Said post stayed in the “Pending Review” for more than 24hours,,,, why? we did not know the reason; besides even after my comment, no explanation was given!
November’s walk was put together at the 11th hour. Because October we could not do the walk, we did not want to disappoint some members. So, naturally, we were anxious to see this post announced asap!

Past experiences: website does get cranky! I vaguely recalled last year I did read comments that someone did access another member’s post and make changes.
Could it be the website misbehaving again this time? Therefore, I ring bells.

When the website gets cranky, it is the SHC administrator’s responsibility to help. However, being the writer of my post, I felt I reserved the right to know who accessed my post.

Even you, Terence (founder of SHC) whenever you did edit or change something in a member’s post, you WILL INFORM the writer concerned! ,,,,,, this, is a basic COURTESY!

I am no longer anxious now that my doubt has been cleared that it is not the website misbehaved again.

    Thanks,
    ChristinaCL Chan

  13. Hi Christina

I updated the list of participants for u in the capacity of Admin. I see nothing wrong in not revealing myself as it ws our responsibility to help other members who encountered difficulties. Other than this, nothing changes.

We had checked n also, did receive same difficulty faced by other members in editing although their status remain unchanged.

If u feel that u prefer your post remains in original state, I shall stop at here n leave it solely 2 your discretion. If u do need help, please drop me an email.

    YK

  14. #14, #20 whoever you are,,, I have asked but you remained silent! Perhaps you are being helpful but if you are not going to tell who you are then STOP editing my post!!!!!!!!!!

  22. Why Walking is good for us…..

“Above all, do not lose your desire to walk. Every day I walk myself into a state of well-being and walk away from every illness. I have walked myself into my best thoughts, and I know of no thought so burdensome that one cannot walk away from it.” – Soren Kierkegaard

“Walking is the great adventure, the first meditation, a practice of heartiness and soul primary to humankind.
Walking is the exact balance between spirit and humility.” – Gary Snyder

“The best remedy for a short temper is a long walk.” – Jacqueline Schiff

“Walking is good for solving problems – it’s like the feet are little psychiatrists.” – Pepper

  23. Maureen Lee, Irene Poh, Gabriella Chua, Ricky + Patricia Wong,,, I think I have met some of you in our monthly walks. Welcome!

JamesTanCL ,,, Thanks! sorry you cant join this walk. See you in the next :)

    Thank you,
    ChristinaCL Chan

  24. #2 RosalindL, we had met,,, you are fit as a fiddle kkakakak
Anyway, the route is easy and surely those with cameras will enjoy clinking away and hence, we will linger and feast our eyes on the lovely night lights,,,,,, we will move at a leisure pace :D

  25. #1 VinceW: thanks for early registration for yourself and wife Carol.

#6 : thanks also for the heads up about the APEC. FYI, as both Serene & I are working, at short notice, we could recce only the area near to our workplace :D
As it is the tailend of our route, let’s play by ear when we approach the Merlion.

Btw, VinceW,,, you indicated your walk party consists of 6 people interested. Please provide their names.

Note: 14Nov road closure affected areas are the Esplanade Dr & Raffles City… access to MRT/bus stops are possible.

Most of the route is LOVELY,,, as even JamesTanCL “will be thinking of How beautiful to stroll down the Singapore River” :D :D

  26. Christina/Serene,

Just read this morning papers reported that Obama is
delaying his trip and will arrive in Sg this Saturday
instead of Friday to coincide with your walk.

Maybe you may want to organise a picture taking session
with him since you will be around the Suntec vicinity ….

…. if you can get pass the security.

    Just kidding …..

Enjoy the walk. I’ll in Batam thinking of how beautiful
to stroll down the Singapore River again. HAVE FUN !

    james

  27. Dear EOs

I think that for that date and time of the walk, APEC activities are still on….there will be road closures and police check activities going on. Have you taken that into consideration?

By the way, my walking party now consists of 6 people interested in the walk and meeting silverhairs folks!

    Regards, Vincent

  28. Dear Serene/Christina,

I would like to join this walk. I hope I can complete it. hehehe Please excuse me if I have to stop and sit somewhere along the way. I’ll catch up with you guys as I know where the route and the end point are.
