SHC November monthly gathering – Hans Cafe

Time to plan the Nov and Dec 2010 monthly gatherings.  Would you like to play your part as the EO for either the Nov or the Dec monthly gatherings?  Of course, you get to choose your assistants.

If you have attended our monthly gatherings before, it’s time you give this role a try.  Please raise your hands.

  1. This is very interesting. A quiet post. Try again, would someone to raise his/her hand to be the EO for either the Oct or Nov monthly gathering?

  2. We should use the last monthly gatherings for a time of coming together to plan new grounds and direction for next year. I have in mind the venue and the agenda. A simple meals will be included and after the serious business meeting we shall have karoeke singing.

Let’s meet and forecast a calendar of events and at the same time getting potential EOs and helpers for all the activities we intend to hold next year. The idea of having this gathering as a yearly retreat should be encourages. I am still thinking whether to have it on a cruise ship for an overnight stay and is negotiating for a low rate of about $45.00 which includes all meals and using their karoeke lounge for our meeting and adjourned for karoeke singing.

We are open to all member to offer suggestions as to the kind of events and activities they would like to make it happen next year. On the table for discussion are the porn night, the prom night, the orgy night and the dance competition.

I am planning to have the trip to Lake Kenyir, and a visit to a farm and more makan session for next year. Hope that more member will come forward and organize more activities to make the Silverhairs Club the place to be!

    My 7 cents worth!

  3. Hi Dan and RobertO,

Well done, good to keep this discussion flowing. Let’s perhaps review all the possibilities and ideas from members, and see how we can take this forward.

    Dan, very naughty you.

  4. “……..after the serious business meeting we shall have karoeke singing…..”

Ka-roe-eeek-ki singing? What sort of singing will that be? Eeking or reeking (stale) roe from the mouth or what?

Have been enjoying myself at karaokes. One just never run out of seeing brave but funnybones unknowingly wreaking havoc.

2 nites ago, there was this guy who changed the lyrics of ??? to tell the audience that he was a rogue, a scoundrel of the worst proportion and that he had his fair share of women he jilted and at the receiving end as well.

We were all so touched and while preparing to cry together for him, he started the ball rolling, and was inconsolate. So we didnt cry.

Then last nite, another guy with a booming voice read songs. As sporting as he was, we clapped.

In between, there were lao swees and aunties dancing, gyrating their square or round butts in what appeared to me were steps of Mao in the Long March.

So, Dan-H, to round off a serious discussion with a karaoke (or karoeke) will not be out of place.

Last, for the discussion, as you envisaged, to be meaningful and fruitful, think it shd be organised like a seminar with a chairperson/moderator and all EOs for the preceding year up with him on the panel to take/field questions/suggestions from the floor. Otherwise, with folks sitting everywhere (some on laps giggling), and all start talking, nobody gets to hear anybody…..even if one talks a legend.

  5. Hi Tim, Dan,

I see a lot of value in your suggestion to have seminar type meeting to formulate our plans for next year. Not too sure how it will work or turn out to be; but we can give it a go.

Perhaps, we can pick a day, find a moderator and start brain-storming.

Tim, I see you have become a more sensible person. If we can find a date, would you be the moderator for this event. Good for you to consider doing something serious for SHC. We can call the event “SHC going forward 2011.”

  6. We still have 2 monthly gatherings to year end, 1 of which can be used to discuss what folks will like to see and have for SHC next year.

Who the moderator is, isnt an issue. The Mo can be he, she or I but my persobal preference is you Terence. Or at least you must be up there.

As its founder, you wd be able to guide folks with what yr vision is and so minimise deviations.

Haha, me become more sensible? Wont fight you on that and certainly wont do a Jileen Ng act on you for that……go read the ST if you dunno what it is. Suffice to say that I hv not lost a minuscule of my sheen and shine if I were to get into my mischief again.

Btw, dont you think that it’s high time to grasp more of the Chinese language which is a very irresistible lingua?

In English, “east” and “west” can only mean what they are. But in Chinese, they can mean a lot more and a lot more differently.

    “??????????????”

Literally, in English it means, when it’s time to part, the first thing to do is to distribute east west then distribute west east.

    Nonplussed?

  7. Hi Terence

I’d like to volunteer for dec EO. The meeting will be x’mas related (exchange of gifts) and charity related (bidding on donated goods and proceeds go to chosen home) what do you think? will 20, 21 or 23 dec be good for you? (would like you to be there)

  8. Hi Frisna #8,

Well done. Definitely, we would be most happy to have you as EO. This is confirmed, and I also have blocked the dates to be in Singapore.

So, go ahead, think about the event, be prepared to change along the way and let’s hear from you in a new Post.

    Terence Seah

  9. Hi Frisna,
Glad dat u r considering 2b d EO 4 Dec mthly gathering but I think u hv 2 find other venue beside Hans if u r thinking of bidding event as I dont think it is possible at Hans – too open space n hard 2 manage crowd without any loud hailer or microphones which I dont think we are allowed to. 7cts worth… Cheers… Dolly

  10. Hi All, kindly allow me to share some ideas pertaining to the discussions going on in “SilverHairsClub Key holders” thread, especially wht Dan has proposed in the current thread as well. I think all of us can see quite clearly Dan’s concern & love for this club. I think wht Dan has proposed in the former thread & this thread has merits. Allow me to elaborate.

I think the question is how to put in place a structure to ensure there’s a good flow of varied activities month after month, EOed by members who ( volunteered) has the drive to do it well & yet quite importantly, eliminating our Chief’s need to take a big panadol everymonth hahaha. The monthly gathering is a clear example of “no hands up” untill Frisna came to the rescue. hehe

One way is to structure it after the way our golfing & social clubs in Singapore does it by way of appointing/ nominating convenors on a 6 mthly or annual basis.

We can have Convenors/Alternates for 1) Monthly gatherings 2) Dancing 3) Walks 4) Cycling 5) Special Events ( includes Prom nights, D&D etc) 6) Bowling etc etc just to show some examples. From the above we can see some activities like Walks & Cycling already hv very strong anchors, muak2 to them.
Obviously, the typical Convenor wud be somebody who hv been with the club long enough to know many other members.

The role of a convenor is to ensure tht the particular activity they are convenor of, keeps running month after month. They need not run the activities themselves, but can fill in when there’s a void. The Convenor’s role of say “Monthly Gathering Convenor” is to motivate/ co-ordinate other members whom they know or hv volunteered to EO that particular Monthly Gathering.

There’s merit in this structure in that the Present & Past Convenors can act as advisor/ template to whoever wants to EO an activity, so that the aspiring EO need not reinvent the wheel all over again. Lets take as an example “Special Events Convenor” Assuming Carly wants to source for a hotel/ballroom for a PromNight, she just need to approach the Current Special Event Convenor who hv over the years compiled a list of hotels/ ballrooms and their respective features & costs. She merely needs to update their (hotels)current cost & features, and very quickly zero-ing in onto those hotels/ ball rooms tht meets her targeted budgets, thus saving time & raising productivity.
This advisory role or template provided by the Convenor is like a superstructure already laid out, all the new aspiring EO of any particular activity needs to do is have their own creative input on the event making it more vigorous & refreshing. When EO-ing an activity becomes less daulting, it will encourage more members to step forward to EO an event knowing they hv a template / advisory service from the Convenor to lean on. Just 2 cts worth of opinion hahaha. Cheers !!

  11. May I also add that, this then wud leave our Chief unburden to dream other dreams like SHC Tokyo, SHC Glasgow or things like attracting more new members in Sing. etc etc hahaha
