  1. Thk U Dan & Malcolm for the support!

    Note:
If we hv mini 10pax wit mini 2hrs ride, the bike rental rate will be S$6/hr.
If not, it’s normal rate of S$8/hr.
This is best rate from Joe/Jumando……at the moment.

  2. Ivan & Lily and all the cycling buddies….

I will be meeting you all at the Bicycle Kiosk at the stated time. Calling Eileen Thean, Audrey Wong, Joyce Tan and Eileen Ang……Coming or not?

For Dinner, Blk 401 Kopitiam doesn’t seem to be appetising leh. Suggest we eat at the Teochew Porridge along Upper Serangoon or opposite the famous Ponggol Nasi Lemak.

But first I must remember to buy a Torch light for my Bike

    Cheers! :) Ah Nee

  3. Hi Ah Nee,
Ya! I also think that we should have teochew porridge for dinner….

    Hi Lily,
Pls note Johnny Pow also joining the ride this Saturday…
    Anymore riding??????

  4. Wow, Karen Thio – steady lah. Hehe…. :)

Ah Nee – Eileen Thean and Douglas messaged me that they are joining us.

Ivan – noted Johnny Pow will ride with us.

  5. Hi Janie,
Thank you for the support…..dun forget to bring front (white-colour) and back (red-colour) lights for bike.

Hi Kwai Keng and Kok Seng,
Welcome to the club! Hope that you will find the activities encouraging and useful….
See you both this Saturday for the evening ride. GREAT!

    Ivan

  6. Hi Lily and Ivan,

Please register me as tentative, as I am not sure, after my Thursday’s golf game with Tian Soo, will I be able to recover in time for such a long ride. If I can’t make it, I will sms Johnny to convey my regrets then.

    Thanks.

    yew tiong

  7. Hi Kwai Keng
Is your sister Elaine a SHC member? If she is not, she is welcome to join in the fun but we will not register non-member’s name on this post.

    Hi Steven
Same as Elaine, we will wait for Jennie Tan’s confirmation as member before listing her name in this post. Look forward to seeing you both this Saturday.

    Hi Yew Tiong
If I can make it, so can you. This is a leisurely cycling activity and we take breaks here and there to enjoy the sceneries and wait for each other to catch up. So, no worries. Even if you can’t make it for the ride, you can still join us for the makan at the end of it.

See you folks this Saturday. Teochew muay – here we come! :)

  8. Hi Again
There will be 2 more non-members (friends of Ivan) joining us this Saturday. The group now stands at 24.

Calling those who have gone for the Recce Ride with Ivan (Lawrence Lee, Eileen Ang, Conrad Tang & NM Chong), please come and assist guiding the riders in the right direction / route.

Because with varying cycling skills of the riders (novice to pro), we will be spread out into quite a distance between the 1st and the last rider …..

So, will need you guys / gals riding in between and one of you to be the last rider aka sweeper to push the pack closer / tighter from behind ….

At the moment, we only have Ivan, Douglas and Eileen Thean to help out and Douglas is already doubling up as the cameraman.

  9. Calling the Biking experts…

I bought the D.I.Y light for my bike already. Yesterday was trying to fix it on my bike, can’t decide the blink blink red light should put in front or at the back of the bicycle??? yahoooo….finally I think it should be fixed it at the back of the bike, right? Can confirm is this correct?

Then the shop assistant told me that they didn’t sell the front light, he ask me to use torch light??? Aiyo…how to ride my bike when I holding on the torch light, apa macham??? In any case I am going to enjoy the ride even without the torch light…hahaha :)

    Cheers! Ah Nee

  10. Hi Ah Nee / Ivan,

Regret unable to join this fun event due to some prior engagement, see you next time.

Btw, you’re right that red blinking light (blinker) is to be fixed at the back and we normally fix a white light infront if riding early in the morning (dawn) or at night.

Ya, the night scenes are beautiful at the park and quite cooling too….

    Cheers, JoyceT

  11. Hi Steven #19.

As you know, this forum only allows member names to be published. If there are issues with the membership, please ask the person to contact admin@silverhairsclub.com. Do not do so on the person’s behalf, as you may not know the full story why the membership is rejected. No more reminders for you.

  12. Hi Lily #21,

As the organiser of this event, you can admit non-members to the activities. However, this also means that this event will from now on be an EC event.

    Terence Seah

  13. Ivan & Lily,

Susan Tan send me an email to confirm joining us tomorrow. She is afraid that we don’t know which Susan Tan since as of now we got so many Susan Tan. This Susan Tan has MIA from Kovan Jam / Cycling / Walking and other activities for so long…..

See you appear again Susan! Cheers :)

    Ah Nee

  14. Hi Karen
    Noted Judy coming.

    Hi Susan Tan
The Susan of the dance floor? Heehee… long time no see.
Thanks Ah Nee – for the follow-up.

    Hi Theresa Seow
    Welcome. See you tomorrow.

  15. Hi Terence

If you check thru all the cycling posts, you will not find one that signed off with EO so and so. It is always signed off as cycling team/group or the leader’s name.

Monthly cycling have always been attended by members but sometimes, members bring guests. Precisely how Marg Tian and Grace Tay came to know SHC and subsequently became members.

In any case, cycling routes are public places. If non-members cycle up to us or next to us, it is very difficult to shoo them away.

Thank you for your observation. No issue at all for The Monthly Cycling to be known as an EC event.

  16. Hi Dan,
It’s Ok. See you next time.

    Hi All,
From the name list, I think we have about/more than 10pax renting a bike. If this is the case, bike rental rates will be $6/hr x mini 2hrs = $12/pax for those renting a bike.
Have inform bike rental kiosk to prepare 10-12 good bikes for us already. See you all this afternoon.

    IvanL

  17. Wow…….so many turn up, break record since the closure of East Coast Park. Cyclist leaders and helpers (those are the pro) ……”Jia Yu”. Cheers!

    Ah Nee

  18. WOW is the rite word to express this event!

Calling the pros, I need a volunteer to be the sweeper! Because the group is quite big and I really need some help here from the better and more seasoned riders…..THANK YOU 1st!

    IvanL

  19. Hi Riders,

Thank you very much for turning up and making this ride a success as well as a very enjoyable one!

Special thanks to Boon Liang & Eileen Ang for their sweeping efforts and keeping the riders closed up.

Thanks to Douglas and Alan for taking photos and video-taping the event.

Lastly, thanks to Lily for helping out administratively.
Trust that all who went for the teochew porridge dinner had a good time too!

Till the next ride in August entitled “NIGHT RIDING” – the Dark Knight better watch-out! Cos the SHCians are riding…. Hehehe!

p/s: for the weaker few who had some problems catching up and did not have the chance to catch their breathe, do not fear! You have completed the route! WELL DONE!!!

    Ivan Lim

  20. Luckily yesterday rain was from a passing cloud, the cycling was a cool and breezy one. Thank you Ivan for registering on my behalf and leading us in this cycling routes.

Thank you Lily for leading me the drive to Upper Serangoon’s teochew porridge. The group i ate with do not like chillies but all the dishes ordered was good. Hope to see you all Schians agiain for the next cycling event.

    Stay Healthy! Be Happy! :)

  21. Wow! again….yesterday cycling was fantastic; every rider managed very well, completed the route without problem at all. Some riders cycled so fast like a flying carpet, in no time they are out of sight??? I think we are gradually reaching there! The “Pro” standard lah. …..hehehe

It’s not easy to coordinate such a big group of 45 and above for this event but you all did it! Thank you Ivan, Douglas, Alan, Boon Liang, Lily, Eileen and 2 Ivan’s Joker friends for this well organised cycling event!

Oh ya….the steaming hot teochew porridge & the delicious dishes. No wonder Audrey can’t help saying so cheap and so nice….

Next, more exciting cycling events are on the way… see you all again….. :)

    Ah Nee

  22. indeed another fantastic & joyful ride special thanks to Ivan, lily & Douglas for yr hard work and to all of you for yr patients to waiting for a slowcoach.

    Cheers !

  23. HI to all the cycling afficionados,

I passed by a shop this evening and saw they had some folding bicycles. I tried one, a Tyrell, Jap made, 8.9kgs, 10 speed, 20″wheels. Does anyone here own a Tyrell? Or has used one? Or knows of anyone who has tried?

I am looking for some feedback on this bike, if any. Thanks in advance.

  24. Hi Charles

I am looking for a foldable bike too. If you have any info, pls let me know. I have been putting off buying one cos I have been advised not to buy a folding bike. As I have limited space in my home, this is the only option I have.

    Thanks

    Carly

  25. Hi Charles! I too am interested in a folding bike but not the same brand as the National Park’s one. $2,000++++ wow!

Lily’s foldable bike is cool….dunno the brand though.

Where is the bike shop you saw the folding bikes, Charles?

    Cheers
    Ros

  26. Wow Charles #45,

I presume you are referring to Tyrell FX 2011 model??

    Wow! Very expensive…..

Do you really need such an expensive foldie??

Cause to spend that kind of doug, better look for the equivalent from the used foldie market…at only half the price ($1K) and still can find them to be quite new or in excellent conditions!

And since this will be your first foldie. Most probably you will find out later that you need something else or need to do certain upgradings/changes to the foldie!

Ah! Then, at that time, you will know exactly what you want for the bike……then you can spend $20K on it and I won’t even say a thing!!

Cause in the used foldie market, you can find many selling their 2days old, 2 weeks old, 2 months old, never ride before, seldom used, only done 20km mileage etc….these people have too much $$$$$$$……we should take full advantage of their “weaknesses”…..

    Please see: http://www.togoparts.com/marketplace/list_ads.php?cid=10&country=Singapore

Do an advance search of the section for Foldies and you can be surprise but do note that there are HIGH-BALLERS and sly sellers…and scrap-yard bikes posted too.

So, BUYERS PLEASE DO YOUR HOME-WORK and DON’T GET CONNED!! That’s all….gooood Luckkkkkkkkkkkk!

p/s: I still hunting for my used MTB last few months at the rite price and rite bike fit….still no luck till now because I am fussy and knows exactly what I want from my first used MTB…. :)))) and most importantly….I don’t have extra doug/penny to throw around and I drive a hard bargain on what I want.

  27. Ah Nee just bought a Dahon MU8 for 2399 Ringgit. Weight 11.2 kg. She so happy now we are having coffee at Sutera Mall. Charles did not get his Bike Friday.

Rosalind. The foldable bike you saw me using was Lina’s Tern Verge 18. It is more 3800 Ringgit. We came to JB for bike shopping but I think I will buy a 2nd hand from one SHCian. Arrangements have been made to test the bikes tomorrow pm.

We are all getting ready for the night riding. Those interested should go get your own bike cos there is no bike rental shop open past 8pm.

  28. Hi Ros @ #47,

The bike shop that I saw the Tyrell was C2C, Chapter to Chapter or Chapter to Cycle, something like that, in Ang Mo Kio. I tried the bike and liked the ride. I did not know it was so expensive till Ivan said so and I googled Tyrell bikes.

Besides the high price, the Tyrell is not easy to fold, and when folded, cannot be rolled, like to the Mrt, ie they have to be carried. But like the shop says, once you have unloaded the bike from your car, you don’t have to roll or carry it, you can cycle immediately. It only makes sense if you have a car.

But I have to admit that I loved the ride, for a foldie. I am trying to understand what makes this foldie different, besides the obvious good build quality. This is not a bike to use when you want to go to the supermkt. Bet your last dollar, it will be stolen, even in Singapore. This is for people who got too much money and have to exercise to stay healthy so they can live longer to be able to spend their money and so on.

Ah Nee bought a very good foldie yesterday. You should see her soon cycling around Punggol and Kovan, showing off her bike. I cannot advertise for the bike.
