  1. MMmmmm EO,

Tentatively, please include me in this night cycling.

Cos still thinking about having to ride from Hougang to Bedok Reservior Park and back at night (about 10km x 2) is a barrier for me……anyone keen to join me on the route there????

  2. Hi Suz,

Your good friend AhNee has 2 foldies. CAn ask her to bring extra for you.

    Hi Doug,

Can register me please? Waiting to try out my new foldie. Did you prepare any traps/jumping jacks along the route to welcome the ‘guests’?

    Cu Friday.

  3. Suzhang,

Can use my bike if you are willing to carry that 17 kg foldable bike up and down from my car lor….hehehe….that’s why I bought the 2nd lighter foldable bike.

Don’t know what Douglas meant by “Those who don’t have bike are also welcome to join”??? Maybe can chit chatting or strolling there at the reservoir….should be breezy and cooling under the scary scary night… :)

    Ah Nee

  4. Gosh, Charles you just reminded me… I realised I can’t go this Friday ! It’s the 1st day of the 7th month & need to send food & monies to all the good bro out there !

Ah Née: thanks for the kind offer. I doubt I can carry such a heavy bike. I have decided not to join in this Friday. I admit I am scare!

You guys have fun with the rest..

    Suzhang

  5. Anna #3,

OK, firmed. We meet somewhere in/at Hougang and then ride to Bedok Reservoir Park. Where in Hougang is convenient for you? You coming from which direction/location?

Anyone else?? Please raise your hands early for co-ord purposes like where to meet and at what time to be at set-off point(s) etc..

    IvanL

  6. Anna, I also don’t know the riding route after meeting up at Bedok Reservior (Car) Park. Only the EO knows and can answer your query….(but it’s OK for me…I just follow him.)

Anyway, the route that I will be taking from Hougang to Bedok will be as follws:

    1. Meeting at Blk 401 HG Ave 8 (24hrs KPT Kopitiam) opposite Ponggol Park at 7:00pm-7:15pm
    2. Start at 7:15pm, ride along HG Ave 8 to
    3. Upper Serangoon Road to
    4. HG Ave 3 to
    5. Eunos Link to
    6. Kaki Bukit Ave 1 to
    7. Bedok Reservior Road to meeting point just before 8:30pm hopefully.

After the event, will then ride back to Hougang. Return route is still unknown because planning this adhoc basis.

  7. Hi guys (and gals)

Douglas is down with a flu that’s why non responsive. He said he will reply today. So hang in there ok. Answer coming soon. I also don’t know the answer. May be I should go recce…..hehe.

  8. Hi Ivan @11,

If you are cycling from Hougang Ave 8 to Bedok Reservoir, I suggest you don’t use Upper Serangoon Rd. Take HG Ave 8 straight across to HG Ave 7, follow the canal path, cross over to Defu Industrial Est and continue to Lalan Eunos till Kaki Bukit Ave 1 to Bedok Reservoir Rd.

    See you on Friday

  9. Hello Charles,

    Yes, see you tomorrow.

And yes, google map had suggested similar route as mentioned by you. But after some thots, the stretch within Defu Ind Est may not be a good idea to cycle at night, just in case I am doing it solo ……

  10. Yes Ivan, better not cycle alone along that stretch of road link to Defu Ind estate before turning to Lorong Ah Soo. Many foreigners especially the Bangladeshi dormitory is situated there. When I drive past that stretch of road, I can see so many of them walking along the road….I think not safe lah.

Calling Suzhang….after you are done, you still can join us mah. You want to miss the FUN and makan makan???? :)

Douglas, you must get well by tomorrow hor…wish you a speedy recovery!

    Ah Nee

  11. Ah Nee,

Don’t profile the foreigners wrongly. They are just here to make a living for themselves and their families.

In fact I remember two very bad cases of assault with robbery, committed in Singapore were committed by Malaysians and Singaporean ON foreigners and locals.

Douglas, Do you know the distance we will be cycling tomorrow (around the reservoir)?

Maybe I cycle from my house.

Calling the other SHC cyclists, Alan Ang, Johnny Pow, Julian Mok, etc., where are you? Long time no see.
Come and cycle tomorrow night and mebbe can dream a good number and HUAT on Sat.

  12. Hahaha, Ah Nee, actually it’s me who is afraid of crashing into them.

Because quite dark there with many unknown exit/entry points into factory compounds and dormitory. If suddenly, someone just sort off walk out from these points, for sure, I will crash into them. Hahaha.

Also, if I fall down, there are few passing traffic whom I can call upon to help…..like a taxi!!!

    Wow, Charles,
Hope you start riding from your house. Cos this means you can meet/connect up with me somewhere along the route from Hougang to Bedok – rite?? Great!!

    Hey Douglas!
Speedy recovery……and hope you can pen down the route soon. TQ.

  13. Hi Lily,
Thank you for your help with the updates and postings, I am still unable to make any amendments to the post.
Thank you everyone for your kind wishes for a speedy recovery, I will be there, with or without my flu.

    Anna:
Basically, it’s a ride around Bedok Reservoir, Venue was chosen because of many happenings over there. 1st day of the Ghost month happens to be 17 Aug. Briefings on what not to do will be done when we meet at the park entrance..
Those who don’t cycle may join but you will have to stroll on your own around the reservoir, be extra careful.
Disclaimer: The EOs will not be held responsible for any mishaps or accidents arising from this night cycling. Participants join in at their own risk.

    Hi Charles
I don’t know the distance around the reservoir, what we hope is to enjoy the cool silent night and at the same time watch the stars in the sky.See if anyone can spot a falling star.
Cycling ends at 10pm, supper will be at blk 802 Tampines Ave 4.

    Hi Ivan
I suggest you use Tampines Ave 10 to go back to Hougang, It’s a straight road all the way to Lor Halus Wetland. If need be, I can lead you to Ave 10 after supper.

    regards

  14. sigh! I wish I can join in 4 the adventure but Friday I have commitment, hope for other time.
Good luck to all SHC Cycle team who take part.
    Huat Ah!
    Alan

  15. Hi Charles & Douglas,

#17 Distance is about 4 – 5km. I used to jog there mny years ago – the whole circuit. But not now as I have moved. Nice place – enjoy your biking!

  16. Hi Dan,

Of course you can pitch up a tent there and have a picnic. Be sure to bring some food for your ‘friends’. I notice they ususally like roast duck, some fruits would be nice, not forgetting some candles too. I always wondered about the candles, is it because they cannot see too well at night?

Thanks Susan for the info. Only 5kms?

  17. Susan Tan, the dancing queen….

I also cycled round the reservoir before. The cycling path is not smooth, many pebbles / rough sand & rocky along the route.

The distance round the reservoir is so short only, we can cycle 2 or 3 round?????

Eileen Ang, yippeeeee…you can join us, feel so safe with you around, see you all this evening :)

    Ah Nee

  18. Dont worry Ah Nee u have many ‘BIG’ man like Douglas, Ivan ,
Charles….they can protect and take care of u la…..
so how ? wanna join us with your new bike cycle from Hougang..

    Eileen

  19. I will meet you all at Bedok Reservoir car park with my foldable bike…

Btw Danz, you can stroll around the reservoir if you are not cycling, one round of strolling is equivalent to 3 rounds of cycling. How about that???

    Ah Nee

  20. Hi Eileen #23,
OK, see you at the kopitiam…..

p/s: Charles, you meeting us at kopitiam or connecting with us along the way to Bedok. Pls let us know so that we are co-ordinated……

    Anna #10,
You meeting at kopitiam or not, now that EO has advised the route at Bedok F1 Circuit……

  21. Ah Nee
I don’t think this Susan is the same dancing queen Susan lah. That one is Susan LC Tan.

Anyway, really look forward to this nite riding. Cool and breezy – no need to wear hat, sunglasses and arm sleeves to protect from the sun…. great! :)

Janie said that she would like to join but can’t bcos her matar jia is in the workshop – so no transport for her foldie to Bedok.

  22. Charles,

That’s sound like a good idea!

But who else coming for the stroll with me? Otherwise who can I borrow two bike, I will pull another person along?

I will be able to pick the bikes anywhere.

    Dan

  23. Hi lily,

Is Janie keen to cycle with us to the Bedok Reservior
If so I can meet her around seletar area and we can cycle
slowly to hougang to meet Ivan..

  24. Hi Eileen,

Thanks…I am keen but dun think I can make it in time after work from my office. We can meet up some of the evenings to cycle around Ponggol PCN n stop for a coffee along the way. You all have fun!

    Janie

  25. Hi Dan
There are many things you could do in the Park late at night. You will be strolling with your own shadow as most of us are cycling. If your shadow does not follow you, run fast hor because its the 1st day of lunar 7 month.

When was the last time you climbed a tree, you can do that tonight or you can dip your toes in the water.

There is a Forest Adventure :
    http://www.forestadventure.com.sg/

I wish you could borrow a bike and join us rather than walk alone in the dark. I do not want to stay longer than necessary but Ah Nee wants to cycle 3 rounds apa macham.

  26. Jus 2 say thk u Douglas 4 making d 1st SHC nite ride a reality.

    Thk u all 4 d fun n chit-chat abt each other’s new foldies during d breaks.

Lastly, jus wan 2 say tat d return route fm Bedok 2 Hougang via Tampines Ave 10 was great! Quiet, straight pavement trail n cooling 2 – veri nice.

Till d nex ride……in Pulau Ubin F8 Circuit, I tink! Keep ur ride cleaned, tuned, oiled n ready!!!

  27. Hi Douglas thks for organising and nice meeting with
everyone again for cycling, this time in the nite.

Hi Ivan, thanks for your patience for waiting, your
pacing and your leading with your GPS, good ride
for both way although leg almost give way
on the way to the wetland… but it’s ok now..heehe

Once again tnanks Ivan, Douglas and everyone..

  28. The night cycling was an unusual one; we all came with our own bikes! At the car park before we start off, everyone was admiring and testing each other’s foldable / mountain bikes. These were FUN, welcome to the foldies club! Take a look at these, hahaha…….

    • Charles Chua (Tern – Verge X10)
    • Lina Ng (Tern – Verge P18)
    • Janie Leong (Tern – Link D8)not present last night
    • Lily Ho (Raleigh 7)
    • Audrey Wong (Dahon – Vitesse V9)
    • Ah Nee (Dahon – MU P8)
What about you guys with mountain bike???

Last night’s cycling around the reservoir was a comfortable cooling ride. Thanks to Douglas for scaring and organizing the night rider. Bedok Reservoir in the night is not that dark and eerie after all.

Wow…another challenging ride, see you all on the next cycling event at Pulau Ubin! Cheers :)

    Ah Nee

  29. Haha…. Ah Nee

    You’ve got all the foldie models wrong. There was a Lamborghini, 2 BMWs – P18 and D8, 2 Mercedes – V9 and P8, a Mountain truck, 2 Crewcabs, 1 market lorry and a Nissan R7.

Casualty report…. The Nissan was the slowest, almost couldn’t catch up with the rest of the higher cc models. BM 18 crashed…. Merc 8 also almost crashed when cornering. Heehee….

Thank you Douglas – for leading us on an exciting nite ride. Thoroughly enjoyed it. :)

  30. Hi Douglas,

Thanks for leading us around the route last Friday and I hope you have recovered from the flu.

Can give us any more ideas on any other routes? Day oso can, nite oso can. Preferably no gravel. I found it very difficult to cycle on gravel. Now I know how dangerous it can be to drive on a gravelled road. There is just no grip.

    Wishing you a speedy recovery.

  32. Hello to all enthusiastic cyclists,

I plan to buy a foldable bicycle and I hope anyone of you can help me recommend a good solid bike. Please advice on the cost and whereabout can I buy it. I appreciate your help. Thank you very much.

    Cheers
    Ros

  33. Hi Ros,

If you plan to buy a foldie, I suggest you buy the one which Ah Nee bought as a minimum. You might want to check with her about the bike and if she is happy with it.

It is called Dahon MU8, made in Taiwan. Dahon stands for David Hon, a NASA engineer turned bizman. Foldie weighs 11.2 kg. IMHO good enough, will last you for over 10 years, good value for money at below S$900 and also good for heart patients.
