Soon, the Rabbit year will arrive – Happy Lunar New Year

The Rabbit year promises lots of excitement and vibrance to all SilverHairs.  Whatever our age, I am sure we can all look forward to that something special.  Good health, reasonable wealth, and plenty of happiness.

This year, how about sharing with everybody what is your animal?  If you are an ox, we might try to pair you up with a chicken.  And, if you are a horse, we will try a goat.  If the pairing does not work, I am sure someone around us will be able to tell us so.  We can also know you a little bit better.  Are  you a rabbit?  How many of you are rabbits?

Share with us your predictions, what will the rabbit year be like?

Also, share your best wishes too.  Kong Xi Fa Chai.

  1. Hi Terence,

  3. Hi Terence

Kong Xi Fa Chai to you and all my friends in SHC. A very Happy New Year filled with God’s Blessings to one and all.

Terence – you’ve not shared with us what is your animal?

I’m a dragon woman… kekeke. Which animal can be paired with a dragon?

    Cheers,
    Gabriella

  4. Hi Sam #2,
Have you heard that the snake is a great lover? One seductive eye opened, while the other curled up and saying “Darling, I love you”. Oops, I have been watching too much cartoon network.

And, when the video clip was selected, I didnt realised it turned out to show the sexy shoulders of the singers. Well, when I land in Yangon airport and get the next internet connection, I shall put up something more appropriate. I shall be with IvanL and meeting William Chew too.

    Hi Gabriella #3,
I am a goat. Stubborn, stubborn and stubborn. Supposed to be creative and artistic. Haha at myself.

    Hi Dan #1,
Rabbit with dog. I dont know really; but I remember the dog always digs up the hole, just to look for Bugs Bunny. Da, you should be happy that you are wanted, even if it means eating you up. Again, too much cartoon network.

To a properous new year guys and gals. Start spring cleaning, before it is Feb.

    Terence Seah

  5. Terence, what’s wrong with the gals showing shoulders when everything else in between is covered ? Alright too if they show their armpits so long as they hv shaved.

So what do you see in the video clip…….4 gals?

The 2 wearing trousers are supposed to be boys, waiting to be picked up by 2 gals for lontong. Also goreng pisang if the “boys” had any.

Like all evergreen CNY songs, this song (????) is sweet and brings cheer & joy. Maybe you wd like to let it run for a few days more.

Rabbits are gentle and do get along well with all other living things found in the house. So a rabbit will find love in a dog, cat, mouse, lizard, cockroach, housefly, mosquito. In a sense, a philanderer.

Am always amused why we wished to be animals when we are fathered by the human kind. You cant be a puppy when, say, yr parents are Singaporeans Mr & Mrs Huang or Mr & Mrs Seah. Call them rabbits or goats and you wont get an angpow this CNY.

  6. Dan

Rabbit is fastidious animal. It keeps itself clean and cute. Girls and kids love to cuddle you. Man wants to eat you.

If you want a girlfriend who it a dog. Just calling her that name and she may kill you. Just think of her as a girl who love to cuddle this rabbit. Think of her as a little Poodle. You may even call her that and get away with it.

I once had 8 rabbits. My dog manage to break into the enclosure one night and kill all of them for fun. I contemplate killing my dog but decided to let my dog live. After all WE are all animals anyway and we human species kill even more.

Ah Huat is a suckling Pig. I am an old Boar…too stubborn for eating but can still propagate.

Pigs eats other peoples rubbish. Use its nose to poke into everything. Sleeps with any sow it can find. In fact it can sleep anywhere and with whatever it can manage. It even shit where it sleeps. Pigs are reputed to be intelligent, but its laziness cause it to end up being eaten. If you want to relax and enjoy life, find a pig for a partner.

    I need a sleep now.

  7. Hi All

How much of a rabbit am I and you shall be my judge!

Indeed, glad to be a rabbit as I definitely have a soft spot for everything “RABBIT” and I am still counting my collection.

Would describe myself as gentle, fastidious and peace loving and not so sociable (rather shy). Very much would like to be an iron lady in velvet gloves and a social butterfuly.

  8. Hi Dan

    Good news!

Rabbits are compatible with dogs, pigs, sheep. Meaning you can also consider TS/Huat Sam and Terence. Kekekekeeeee.

    For reference only:

    Rat – ox, monkey, dragon
    Ox – rat, snake, rooster
    Tiger – pig, horse, dog
    Rabbit – dog, pig, sheep
    Dragon – rooster, rat, monkey
    Snake – monkey, ox, rooster
    Horse – sheep, tiger, dog
    Sheep – horse, pig, rabbit
    Monkey – snake, rat, dragon
    Rooster – dragon, ox, snake
    Dog – rabbit, horse, tiger
    Pig – tiger, rabbit, sheep

Bring this table when you go on a date (tell your date ‘Oops, you are not for me’ kakakaka); don’t forget the almanac, too.

    Good luck with your pairing.

  9. Thank you Ter. I hv since listened to the banner song 100+ times, sang it once last nite at k’ok to a standing ovation and many more times in my sleep. If you like, it can go now.

Totally inebriated, I am ready to predict what the Rabbit Year will be, sooth-saying as well as doon-saying it.

    1 Singapore
We’ll see a degenaration of the post-war generation. Many oldies, sitting idly in coffee shops, hv a litany of younger day heroics (perceived or imaginary, only they know) to tell, thick with expletives. They are inviting fights but can they beat a cat at their ages? So there will be more sudden deaths/injuries of oldies from brawls.

More extra-marital affairs. Having retired or having seen enough of their spouse, these men hv time. The women hv even more time. So they interact, mingle as if they’re single (some are, of cos). Many cant hv babies anymore so 1 fear is out. Ter cant sell his panadol here.

If there is decoupling in SHC, it’ll be more than made up by new pairings. May bliss be with them.

Inflation will hit retirees hardest. So, any spare cash shd go to food but not food to feed mei mei……they come from countries which grow rice.

At least a few more old political stalwarts will bid their adios. Shed no tear as they wd hv outlived their shelf lives, and if they hv done enough for me to remember, i will.

We will see the same government after the GE. Reportedly with a war chest of $6,000,000,000 surplus, think they will be seasoned and reasoned enough to dole it out, and will likely keep most of the promises pledged at rallies.

Andrew-K, who used to write a lot here, might join the fray and maximise his potential as an independent at the GE. If that happens, I wish him luck. No flak.

    2. The World at large.
Unpredictable, scary climatic changes will be rabid in the Rabbit Year. Shattering calamities, catastophes will come uninvited. Be wary, be alert but also be real that you cant be prepared enough. So, be good, do good and everything shd fall in place, come what may.

With crops destroyed and famines & droughts wrecking elsewhere, it will be a costlier world. A hungry man is an angry man so there will be more reason for terrorists of old and of a new kind to find sympathisers.

Some economies will be close to a collapse although, by and large, the performing economies will continue to boom and prosper.

We will see skirmishes btwn some countries, historically belligerent with each other but there wont be war.

  10. Hi Terence!

I’m a Rabbit and that means I’ll be 60 this year.

My laogong is a Dog and we get along very well so Dan, no need to ask already ya? Willie & me are living proof! :)

Cheers to all fellow ‘animals’… :p

    Ros

  11. While the Chinese put 12 animals in their almanac, they have also used them for words of rebuke or as descriptions for the less than savoury. See :-

    ???? = rowdy, creating a huge commotion.
???? = running away in all directions.
    ???? = worse than a pig/dog.
????? = a horse doesnt know that it has a long face.
    ???? = a den of crooks.
    ???? = a communication/conveyance that doesnt make sense.
???? = when a rabbit dies, even a fox mourns.
    ????? = stubborn.
???? = in absolutely hopeless company.

4 legs good, 2 legs better, yeah?

  12. The Lunar New Year atmosphere is in the air;
    Grinning rabbits stare from everywhere.

    In full swing the Lunar New Year bazaars;
On parade, Lunar New Year goodies in jars and jars.

Auspicious foodstuff now to the fore,
Though all will cost so much more.

There is anxiety in some quarters:
What is affordable for reunion dinners?

    But eternal springs hope,
And the man-in-the-street shall cope! :)

So, while Tiger its sad swansong sings,
Happy Rabbit patiently waits in the wings.

Wishing all: A Happy Rabbit year!

  13. Greetings from Perth to Terence and SHC members

  14. Greetings to all SHC members,

May you have a good house spring clean cleaning, change all the curtains, buy new clothes and shoes, store the fridge with pomfrets and chickens, get new table cloths, and standby for the bevy of children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, son and daughter-in-laws.

Thank you Mary for the well-wishes, and to all Singaporeans members, a happy new year. Enjoy the heat too.

And, to all fellow SHCians in other countries in the world, enjoy the Lunar New Year.

  15. Happy New Year………………Is this really a wish one wd like to hear from another? Let’s see.

Usually, in the first 10 years of life, one was too small, too insignificant to be noticed in the kampong, among the kins or hierachy so one receives hardly any HNY greeting.

From the 11th year on, peers wd say HNY to each other.

Say, we are 50 this year. We wd hv received 40 years of people wishing us to be happy, year after year. Taking a very conservative incremental value of 100% each year (most wd even ask for infinite happiness), and on the assumption that we really wanted the wish and wanted it to be fulfilled, we shd be at least 4,000% happier that when we were 10 years ago. Are we?

And if we are, that kind of jump in unbridled happiness wd have made many of us delirious and join the wonderkind.

So, I’d rather get wished for a Good Year. Good can only get better, and better, best. At least I wont go mad for having it good.

  16. Hi Tim Liu

We are meeting again in the cyber space and before I atempt to espouse on the rather intangiblle human state of mind, it is apppropriate that I wish you a very happy and fruitful new year.
Man’s perception of happiness can be quite illusive and relative. Somehow it is inextricably linked to contentment. Hence happiness cannot be fathomed by a numeric percentage. The pursuit of happiness per se would lead to a fantacy if one were to attempt to quantify it. In other words, The drive for happiness remains at best a philosophical phenomenon. In anceint China, many emperors had tried in vain to attain the ultimate happiness in life without realising the frailty and mortality of man.
Tim, what I expressed above is purely my perception and is not intended to shovel down you throat and I hope we can further expand and elucidate on the subject.
    Cheers and be happy

  17. According to the Chinese Zodiac, the Year of 2011 is the Year of the Golden Rabbit, which begins on February 3, 2011 and ends on January 22, 2012. The Rabbit is the fourth sign of the Chinese Zodiac, which consists of 12 animals signs. The Rabbit is a lucky sign. Rabbits are private individuals and a bit introverted. People born in the Year of the Rabbit are reasonably friendly individuals who enjoy the company of a group of good friends. They are good teachers, counselors and communicators, but also need their own space.

People born in the Year of the Rabbit share certain characteristics: Keen, wise, fragile, tranquil, serene, considerate, fashionable, and kind. Generally, they are quite calm, do not exhibit aggressive behavior, and will avoid confrontation at all costs. When angry about something, they will approach it calmly and considerately, hardly ever raising their voice. And they are quite keen and pay close attention to the situations developing around them. They are intelligent and quick, and can talk themselves in or out of most situations with no problem.

There is no need to worry about their lives. They are nimble, clever and good at avoiding harm to themselves. They are talented and like artistic ventures, such as painting and music and are generally quite present in these worlds. They are also very hospitable, good hosts and warm-hearted companions. They never embrace others in public places. They know the art of saving face and giving consideration to the interests of both sides.

  18. Indeed, Robert=O, I feels nice to meet you again, nvm that it’s in cyberspace. And thank you for yr well wishes of a very fruitful new year.

I too wish that 2011 is a Year you will remember for the many good things coming yr way.

Surely, no one can accord a numeral to happiness. However, by way of giving it a metaphor incremental number, the mind would then be able to read more clearly what the increase is, and hence its negative effect. An unabated increase year after year, like you too have noted, “lead to a fantacy”, the harbinger to a deranged mind and madness.

So, I wont wish anyone to keep incureasing his happiness and so go mad eventually but wd rather remind him to pursue good and be rewarded with the best.

Haha, butty, pls be rest assured that you hv shovel nothing down my throat except the vintage of friendship. This is appreciated.

  20. Dear ALL,

Wishing eveyone a very GOOD lunar new year, with great happiness and cheer, and may God grant you at least ONE dream come true, this year.

All those who are born in the year of the Rabbit, this is your year… so claim your rights and ENJOY! Hmmm.. all those born in the year of Rabbit should plan a Rabbit party!

    Cheers!

  21. #22 – Steven Ng,

Wah Steven, the prediction of those born in the year of the Rabbit is super complimentary.

Actually, if one wants to read a person’s character then I think combining the horoscope with the animal sign provides at least 75% reading accuracy.

    Cheers
    Ros

  22. Lydia-C, how unambitious you are….want only 1 dream to come true?

Fot me, I am already seeing a dream coming true and, apart from the wet ones, many more dreams never thought of, fulfilled.

Well, the soothsayers probably had a field day saying all things nice abt the rabbit. Do, however, go down to the statute near Fu Lou Shou Centre and you’ll get to read a more balanced and not so flattery prediction of the rabbit for the Year.

Rabbit parties? Sure and why not. The kabuki bunnies are in for a bounty good year and so any one of us can dress up as a bunny and go for it. Even if we dont make it as honey bunnies, we can still make ;aughs as funny bunnies.

  23. I choose to believe that whatever happens to us, good or bad is the result of the decisions we make. Horoscopes, fortune-telling, etc do not apply to us PERSONALLY. There are possibly more than a million people born in the Year of the Rabbit.

Good luck, bountiful blessings and Happiness to all SHC members born in whatever Animal Year!

    Cheers
    Ros

  24. Hello everyone big or small young or old (at heart) tall or short….

HAPPY RABBIT YEAR!! MAY ALL OF US HOP INTO PROSPERITY, GOOD HEALTH, GOOD LUCK AND EVERYTHING GOOD GOOD!!

  25. Hi fellow SilverHairs,

Hong Hee Fatt Choy from down-under. May the Rabbit year bring you loads of fun and loads of money for your retirement.

Have a good dinner tonight with your family. Let’s start count-down now.

  27. Very free today. No more parties to go and so feel kinda of lost.

For me, these parties were great. They didnt ask you to dance. Altho some chose the stage to cry, they too didnt dance but the animation and drama wd hv made everyone grease on the muddy fields as toddlers rolled and their grandmas rocked.

Up on stage, some punched the air. A few managed to catch mosquitoes in their territories and showed their prized snatch(es).

The contagion effect worked many to a frenzy. They beat their chests and chanted “Unfair ! Unfair!” with women quick to pull their hair, pouring grievances with each other they shared and angrily at their husbands (their eyes glued to retty candy gals flipping their skirts) they stared.

    Fun. Funny.

It was refreshing that the oldest of Old Men cd tell us that he was prepared to lose 5 cents out of his 87 sense(s). But sadly, he won none over but flaks from foes and alenation from friends. Even something he manufactured 59 years ago drew a line and marked his width.

It has been raining. The ground is wet but to think there’s a ground swell? Maybe that’s for the cerebral swell.

Looks like it will see a rugby scoreline…….smthg that reads like 87-0. Or if there’s some napping in the backline, maybe 82-5, 80-7. Perhaps, there’ll be 1 or 2 penalty goals scored but I dont think there’s enough dash to put the oval ball btwn the posts for more than a goal.

[Btw, in rugby, a goal consists of a try (5 pts) and a conversion (2 pts) = 7 pts, and a penalty goal is 3 pts)]

We’re into the middle of the Rabbit Year. Will it turn out to be rabid with many rapids to shoot?

Or will the creaky rococo chair, bug-infested due to neglect, be given a new varnish or be replaced altogether with a new bench, spartan but clean which offers more seating space? For many couples – gay or not – to sit together, hug and kiss.

The current owners can awake to the need to do the replacement themsleves. Otherwise, others will do it.

    ???????????????????????????????????“??“??? ??????????????????????

  28. The Rabbit Year has arrived. So is the defining moment for the Year which is today.

Will the guys be transformed into bugs bunnies, greeting with their teeth at every visitor rich to throw some carrots at them?

And the gals into bunny gals to entertain so as to keep themselves fed? Silverhairs will find it tough to compete with the younger bunnies but there will be help. Silicone injections will be heavily subsidised and bikinis specially tailored to suit their size.

Am on my way to lay down this heavy cross.

Unlike previously, I wont draw 2 rambutans with a banana standing in between. It shall be an immaculate handsome cross which I have practised to draw for the last 5 years.

And I wont sleep tonite untill I know where the other crosses are. Whether I will have rabbits as pets, or be patted with carrots when I am seen as obedient or pelted with the rod by the big lords when I am perceived to be less than agreeable………..

  29. So the shirt tugging and hair pulling match has ended. The All Whites managed to thump a 81-6 win nvm with only a mediocre 60.1% of possesion play. Very close to my 58%-60% prediction for a bet.

The one who cried like a baby lost his pants but “fantastic” was his reply when asked how he felt. Cry for another’s cause, not your own cause…..that he forgot. A rabbit face, hare brain…….a true bugs bunny. That Image Consultant shd hv taught him better.

The rank of the unemployed will soar.

Will they now too feel the heat of competition from foreigners as they look for jobs, yo realise for the first time how crowded the field is and start to repent?

But good news is, the top job will soon be up for grabs. She can vie for that job…..great to see a woman as president of the All-At-Seas Rugby Union for the first time. All will play in bikinis, haha.
