If we can get away together for 3 days 2 nights in Malaysia (Mersing) ~ 21 – 23 February 2014 (TRIP CANCELLED)

fishing-clip-art-6     party-clip-art-beach-party-palm-sun    party-clip-art-dancing-rock-color

Again, another dream,  a get-away from Singapore, in Johore perhaps.

After the trip to Yangon, I am wondering again how we can get together to relax, breathe some fresh air, enjoy Malaysian culture, see its beautiful beaches, experience local food and most important of all, to get to know more SilverHairs friends.  I think  a 3 D 2 N somewhere, leaving on a Fri early morning and returning on a Sun night may be just it.

Taichi masters, chess players, those who can cook and share their cooking skills among fellow ladies and guys, slow walks and hikes, spend time by the beach, cycling among the villages, line dancing in the afternoon, social dancing in the night and learning mobile and computer applications can come together.  Come share your skills and knowledge, and more members will know you.

We can take the Transnational coach, all the way to the destination, talk and scream all the way to our destination and before we realize it, we are there.  We head north east. Rain or shine, we go.  We paint the town green. We would limit this trip to 40 pax or the max number the coach can take us.  Of course, it will be fun, and we can allow those who drive to come along too.

The dates are not fixed.  There is no program yet.  It could be held in Dec, Jan or Feb.

But I do know we need the following:

  • 1.  Someone who knows how to take the coach from Lavender to Mersing via Transnational.
  • 2.  Some one to coordinate the 3D 2N program.
  • 3.  And, if you have skills and hobbies, and wish to share during the trip, please hands up.
  • 4.  And anyone who wishes to help bring members together, we have some thing for you.  About time if you have been too quiet.

Thank you to the members who help me piece this concept together.

Even if you have not checked your diary, if you are interested in breathing fresh air and getting to know new and old members better, simply put your name here.  Once the dates are announced, you may withdraw within 7 days, if the dates are not suitable to you.

The trip will be from 21 – 23 February 2014.

This event is strictly for members only.

  1. Hi Terence
Given the popularity of this trip and the diminising number of vacancies, Peri and Thomas asked me to register for them as they are not available to do so themselve. Please register Peri and Thomas Loh.

  2. Dear Terence,

    Yrs sincerely the itchy feets,

  4. Hi Tony,

Thank you for the suggestion and idea. I am looking at an event and gathering in line with the ideas behind the Post.

As you have been to the resort, may I suggest you treat this as a separate event. The planners behind this gathering are planning to go to Mersing, I like the idea and thus unlikely to change this gathering concept and location.

Please go ahead with your idea, for the benefit of members, and I shall try to attend. I like the Causeway link from Newton.

    Terence Seah

  5. Dear Terence,
If you have mention the Location “Mersing”instead of some where, I will never suggest my programe. I am more Johorean than a legalised Singapore cirtizen trying to play host to Sporean to maximise benefits of a trip especially in achieving the idea behind your post trip. I studied n Johore from Primary to Upper six.
For Information of SHC members who are in business or intend to do business in Johor AND who were Ex-students of Sekolah Dato Ja’affar OR Maktab Abdul Bakar( Formerly English College ), joint the Alumni of these two schools and nest for help opportunities.

Perhaps is a good idea to erase my earlier Posting to concentrate on the planned Mersing Trip.

    I regret for the inconvience.

    Tony Ang

    1. Hi Tpny,

Dont misunderstand. In fact, I am glad you brought the idea up. And, I would say your Johorean background will be valuable to SHC.
Many members have organised adhoc trips, and Johor is really our hinterland. There is so much there, that I think we sometimes do not see all its positives.

You are in my consulting book.

      Terence Seah

  6. Hi everybody,

Just from numbers alone, it looks like we can have a cosy gathering. The dates are not firmed yet, but the response is very encouraging. This event is not a travel event, but more a platform for us to know one another better and to know those whom we have not spent time together.

I am hoping more members will organise similar events. Every EO has his/her own style of organising their events. I am hoping to firm the dates next week, but very sure the place will be Mersing, and likely mid to 3rd week Jan 2013.

Gabriella has been very proactive and I appreciate her assistance with team and theme events. I have asked her to help track the registration for this event, and likely future events. Thanks Gabriella.

    More updates next week.

  7. Hi Terence

The North East Monsoon hits the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia from October to about March each year. It is a good time to go Mersing to enjoy very good off season discounts and also if the roads get flooded there will be lots of time for members bonding. I think the cockroaches, ants and snakes will be away hiding from the strong wind and rain. Please don’t try swimming or take any boat rides.

  8. Hi Terence, please add me to the “Reserve” list.
Preferably next year. Now you have 40 odd mouths anxiously anticipating that you will deliver the grubs.

  9. Our 3D2N getaway will very likely be held in Feb 2014, after Chinese New Year. I hope to advise the exact date in Dec. We can confirm the place will be in Mersing, somewhere on a hill top, with a great facing of the sea.

Thank you Tian Soo, I agree with you on the storm. Hopefully, Feb is the end of the monsoon.

Please treat this as the Club’s getaway, and a chance for us to mingle together. More updates later.

    Terence Seah

  10. Dear SHC admin

My login problem is my change of mob phone set. Any chance to reset password as I attempted and failed with dialogue prompt. I changed to old phone and it worked.

    Appreciate your help.

    Thank you
    Helen

  11. Hi Terence, EO

I’ve got feedback on why the registration list doesn’t have numbers. General feedback is it’s easier to locate a participant with the numbering system. Told them it had been changed without my knowledge. Sigh:-( … and I thank them for drawing to my attention.

Eg Gabriella is no. 26 ….

I’ll redo the registration list when I’m free.

Meanwhile, will leave it alone … probably will be doing ASAP.

Stay healthy by being happy :-)

    Thanks,
    Gabriella

    1. Hi Gabriella,

Please go ahead as you see fit re numbering. I am the EO, and i have asked you to help me with the registration. I can go crazy if i try to do it myself.

      Thank you.

      Terence Seah

  12. Hi Gabriella / Terence
I did not touch your post since the last time Terence told me to reduce the line spacing. I only went in one time. You can check in the edit to see who was the last person who edited it. I did not login since my last comment till now.

  13. Hi Terence & Lily

    Noted w thanks.

Must be the ‘Messiah Hacker’ at play on the SHC blog ~ Fairy Godmother :-) Have you lost your magic wand?

Anyway, I was definitely not the person to change my own format from a numbering system to a bullet system with colour cos I do not know how to use colours for the blog. I was asking some friends the other day re: using of colours but no one seems to know. Anyway, that’s not critical. I let it go….

Last but not least, let there be Peace on Earth ~ it’s the Christmas season and I wish everyone in SHC:

    ~ PEACE, JOY & HAPPINESS ~

T: Re: your comments to me above that you still wanna me be your ‘unpaid’ secretary, I’ll continue to provide this service until you find a new one or until you’re not happy with my service, whichever comes earlier. Haha…

SHC has benefitted me and I wanna thank our Fairy Godmother for this! That’s why I agree to this ‘unpaid’ job.

    Cheers………

  14. Hi Terence

    Updated the whole list.

Anyway, I’ve spent quite a fair bit of time doing this. Took it as a learning experience :-) Can handle the single-line spacing very well now. It’s good stimulation for my brain. Getting old….

Btw, wd appreciate if you could advise me how to use ‘colours’ cos I do not seem to have this palette in my system. It’s not critical but I wd like to learn.

    Thanks & regards,
    Gabriella

  17. Hi Terence, to clarify the room rates are for 1 or 2 nights stay?
Do we tell you now our room preference for booking or on the day, we take any room that is available?

    Cheers,
    Mary

    1. Hi everybody coming to Mersing,

Simply let me know your group of two names or four names. There are 4 to a unit and 2 to a unit. These are your bedroom partners.

I will work on an amount in a few days, the rest we shall collect from you later.

      Terence Seah

  18. Hi Terence,
    2 twin rooms (E & F) please:
    – Ann Lim with Theresa Seow
    – Meng Wai with Evon Lim (if available double bed preferred)
and we will be taking the public transport.
    Thanks
    Theresa Seow

  19. Hi Terrence,

Dan Huang and Ronald Lam will share a TWIN ROOM TYPE E
As for transport we will join the bus you are arranging..
    Thanks
    Ronald Lam

  20. Terence, if I take a F room (oh dear what a name) by myself, does it mean I pay a total of $120 for both nights?

For info, Cheng Pun would want me to tell you that he is not going.

    1. Hi Daniel,

Technically, the rate is for a twin bed space or a bunker bed space.
Participants have to book in groups of 4s (1 twin/double rooms and living room attached) or 2s (twin room).

The idea of having A, B, C, D, E and F is to different the degree of comfort. But all beds are comfortable.

Payment will be requested for, after 31 Jan 2014.

      Terence Seah

  21. Hi Terence,

Please remove my name from the registration list. I will not be able to join this trip.

To all participants, have fun.. and bon voyage!

  22. Hi Terence,

    CAROLINE

  25. Hi Terence,
Ref to my post of 24 Jan re room selection, some changes required as follows:
    – Ng Meng Wai is now unable to join us.
    – Our room selection to change to the 2-room attached type
for our foursome Ann Lim, Theresa Seow, Evon Lim and
    Wong Yoke Moon.
    – Public Transport remains.
    Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

    1. Members who have earlier registered for the mersing trip,

If you have changed your plans and unable to join us, please let me know asap, so that we can also plan for those who are coming.

      Terence Seah

  26. Hi Paul

Terence has told me to inform you that you and yr team (Peggy, Nina, Lisa) can come. There will be dropouts and we can handle. Regards.

    for Terence Seah

    1. Originally, our plan to get to Mersing was to take a Transnational coach from Singapore direct to Mersing.

I just found out yesterday that Transnational will not have a bus service from Singapore for the month of Feb from Singapore.

However, we will take Bus 171 from Singapore, to Larkin, and then connect to a Transnational Bus direct to Mersing. Once we reach Mersing, we will take a local taxi, which is approx 1-2 km from the resort.

A number of people will be driving, and the fun is to leave the arrangements to the individual groups.

I shall be taking the public transport, take 171 and then connect at Larkin.

The aim is to reach Mersing at 12nn.

We may consider a coach, but at this moment, since the number of people taking public transport is still not clear, we wont decide on it.
It is also difficult to get a private coach, besides it being more expensive. So, let’s keep our eyes on private transport.

More details on the meeting details later.

      Terence Seah

  27. Terence,
I think it should be take SBS 170 to Larkin Station instead of 171. However there are few options that registered members can take to Larkin Terminal.

    1) CW1 ply directly from Kranji to Larkin (S$1.90) and return is RM$1.40
    2) CW2 ply directly from Queens Street Larkin (S$2.50) amd return is RM$2.50 – This service is express – non-stop in between from QS to Larkin except at custom.

Maybe you may wish to include these options into your consideration.

BTW, since Caroline is unable to make it, I will roommate with Oi Cheng instead as CJ is unable to make it also… Tio bo? Oi Cheng har?

    Cheers… Dolly

    1. Dolly,
      What is CW?

As of now, we shall have to take 171 to Larkin.

We can then board the Larkin-Mersing bus at 10am. Trip about 1.5 hours.

      Terence Seah

  28. Terence,
I have contact with a Malaysian company providing transfer for a 40 seater coach at $26.00 each from Singapore to Mersing. Pickup points at Lavender MRT at 8,30am and Jurong East MRT at 9.00am all inclusive. Coming back depend on us.
I am planning a UK Farm home stay in April, anyone keen?
    Dan

  29. Hi Terrence,
If possible pls explore options to charter bus to Mersing resort & back.
I think some members may have contacts with some tour bus co.like WTS, Luxury etc
It can be quite a hassle for such a large group to take public transport
    1. Arrive Kranji by mrt
    2. Kranji Mrt / Larkin by SBS bus to Larkin
    3. public bus from larkin to mersing
    4. mersing bus stop to resort by taxi

    Return also same manner.
isn’t that quite a hassle esp for ladies lugging their luggage up & down public transport.( + squeezing)

If a small group of back packer then its fine.
Large group ? Some will get scattered ( lost)

At this moment how many cfmd going??
Many seems not even aware of latest situation as they don’t check this thread regularly. Perhaps send an FRESH email reminder to all.

    Regards
    Ronald Lam

    1. Hi RonaldL,

Yes, your idea of a coach is ideal.Let see the options of a coach as provided by DanH. This trip is flexible to allow members to drive there too.

We can have other activities; some members are familiar with foodvand activities in Mersing. They can guide us along.

So, members, your suggestions and assistance would be great..

      Terence Seah

  30. Hi Terence, I have deliberated it over the weekend and decide to give this trip a miss. Please move up the next on the waiting list. For info, CW refers to Causeway. It is the “Causway Link” bus company that runs 2 services, CW1 and CW2 between Sg and Johor. They are yellow in colour (if I remember correctly). ALL the best, folks.
    (Daniel Chan)

  31. Terence,
As of now there is still no itinerary on what to do at Mersing? Will there be fishing? Can I suggest having shopping, massage and even karaoke session in the program. This we can include provided we charter a coach.
I concur with Ronald going by coach to avoid a lot of hassles. The journey by car take about 2 and a half hours by car not counting traffic jams. Even by coach would take us about 3 and a hours to arrive at Mersing.
    Dan

    1. There is no plan for fishing.

Dan, please think about fishing, and those who wants to go fishing can join you.

As for transport, bus 170 and then Transnational to Mersing; and back is our current solution. Please follow this post, and if the numbers justify, we shall use your coach/van solution solution. Please advise.

Our target time is to arrive Fri 12nn and depart Sun noon

      Terence Seah

  32. Hi DanH, and Mersing participants,

Let’s use 20 pax for the coach to Mersing. Dan, do write me the details here or via email.

Another member has also introduced us a coach. We shall decide Tue 4 Jan.

If workable, we will take a coach. We will need coach from one MRT in Singapore and then back Sunday after lunch.

About half the group will drive. Our target is to arrive in Mersing at noon Friday.

    Terence Seah

  33. Sorry to tompang on this post.
Hi Moon, bear in mind that this is the UK Farm Agro Resort in Kluang. I am checking this cost now and with post it soon.
    Dan

  34. Sorry tompang on this post also.

    Hi Dan

The trip you mentioned – UK Farm Agro Resort in Kluang, seems interesting to me. I went back to check the details of your original post/comments but could not find. I will like to join if time and activities are known.

Why not issue a new post on this trip to let us know more even it is not mature now. Thanks

  35. Hi Andrew,
I am still checking on the cost and itinerary and will revert soon.
Terence, will get back to you on the coach for 20 pax. It will be a shame if we miss out on going to Tioman if we are in Mersing. It only a 1 hour boat ride. No worry I am checking on the cost by boat and hotel or longhouse stay, not forgetting snorkeling and fishing.
    Dan.

    1. Hi RichardW,

We shall be confirming the number of rooms soon. Please try to find a room-mate, or you may take a twin room
As for transport, there are no car pools that I know that has a space. Once the coach is decided, you can join the coach.

      Terence Seah

  36. Terence,

Firstly I would like to wish you a happy lunar new year and hope that everything will turn out hor-sey for you.

I will be sharing a room with Dorine Tan for the Mersing and it will be good if you can get a coach for this trip.

    Sockie

  37. Hi Terence / Gabriella

So sorry, Jane Tan and I can’t make it for this trip. Hope to join you another time. Enjoy.

    Lily & Jane

  38. Hi Terence,
Can I still register for the Mersing Trip …..
Driving and paxs are Charlie Teo,, Cynthia Phua
myself and Nancy (not a member yet), Shall register as a
member soon. 2 room attached. Tks
    Molly

  39. Hi Terence,
Oi Cheng told me that she is unable to make it for this trip hence, we will opt out for this trip also. Sorry for the late reply.

    Best regards Dolly

  40. Dear Mersing Participants,

I have been looking forward to conclude the arrangements for the Mersing trip. However, due to my recent fit or seizure while travelling on the MRT last tuesday, I would like to cancel the trip. Although I am fit, mobile and alert, I still have not found the cause of my 5 hours of unconsciousness.

Please take this trip as off. My apology for all the plans you have made.

    Terence Seah

  41. No worry Terence, your health is important. We can always plan another trip.
I have to use the needles twice a day, before breakfast and before dinner. If i ever missed the needle, I will start to vomit all the foods i consumed and experience fainting spells
This is still a wonderful world but we need to care for one another.
    Dan

  42. Dan.
    Thanks for sharing.
I am scared of needles. Now I will go back to the gym which I have been slacking since X’mas. My doctor says exercise is the surest way to keep sickness away.
I will also think of you and your needles when I eat too much.
Life is not so fun now.

  43. Hi Terence
I was looking forward to Mersing as I wanted to have a swig or two of Double Black with you, but alas with you recent unexplained seizure, we have to KIV our whiskey binge. But I am glad indeed to hear that you are fit, mobile and alert. So don’t worry, keep healthy.
    Cheers
    Mega

  44. Hi Terrence – Hope all will be well after your observation period, please take care.

Hi TS/Dan – i can so relate to that, I am also very afraid of needles. Some years ago, I faithfully follow the Dietician recommendation of replacing the CONDENSED MILK with my daily morning coffee. Its cold turkey for me as it does not give me the fix so I soon give up after my blood test was ok. After reading Dan’s posting I reali reali have to watch my diet, so much food temptations out there. I must I must get back my exercising ritual.

    May God Bless everyone, everywhere………

  46. Hi Mega/Terence,
Suggest you switch to drinking red wine. Of course Daisy tea appreciation is also good. Drinking some red wine will be good for your health that is what I understand. But it will also depend on each individual as our body blood type will determine the type of food/drinks we should be taking in to suit our body intake and provide the energy, good heatlh, etc.
Anyway agree with Dan, Mary & Molly no worries, we can always plan another trip when you are fully recovered and in the pink of health. Cheers..
    Bobby
