Valentine Day 14 Feb 2014

happy valentine's day1 happy valentine's day3     happy valentine's day2 happy valentine's day4   Valentine day is romantic.  Do you believe in having a cosy dinner to celebrate Valentine Day or send someone a stalk of roses. At our age, do you simply put the evening aside because it is a working day?

I guess having a Valentine Day among members is unromantic.  Please enjoy your Valentine Day.

  1. Hi Terence
Valentine’s Day this year happens to fall on the fifteenth day of the lunar new year. This is also an auspicious day for we Chinese not only being the last day of new year festivities, the Lantern Festival, the full moon but also the Chinese Valentine’s Day. I think many SHC ladies may remember being out late admiring the lanterns and dropping hankies to attract handsome young men! Nowadays ladies only leave tissue packs to “chope” seats!
Valentine’s Day to me is when all the dining spots are crowded with dating couples paying exorbitant prices for a romantic meal! Best to avoid!

  2. Hi Yew Kwong,

    ????, ????

Yes, yes, I remember vividly that memorable occasion.

Terence together with some SHCians including me, had a candle-light dinner at Hooters/Clarke Quay. When dinner was through, we strolled along the riverbank to Boat Quay and settled down on an ideal spot. We sat by the waterfront, sipped wine, snacked, talked, laughed and watched loving couples passed by. Many ladies were dressed prettily & smiled happily holding a spray or two fresh roses, some a bouquet, yet others an armful. It was a lovely and romantic sight and everyone was perky.

After the group dispersed, you, Terence, another member and I continued our “still-early” night. We adjourned to a Boat Quay bar to carry on the fun. I recall the “music” was blasting away and we were shouting to each other to get heard. Deafening, but all were enjoying it. We were merry-making, a little high perhaps, however clearheaded; only for one who got somewhat gibberish as the wonderful night crept into the wee hours ;-)

Such were great times. Warm comradeship, good company and sooo much fun.

Social order is evolving so rapidly. I begin receiving virtual roses these days. Must be lucky, hee! Real or virtual, it makes my day. I greatly appreciate all your kind and thoughtful gestures. Thank you, caring people out there. You know who you are.

Beautiful and fond memories recollected, here’s my early wishes to all the romantics, make every day a Valentine’s Day. Treasure your friends, and love your precious ones to bits.

    HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY !

  3. I was on a train going back to the hotel after a long day. Then I noticed this couple, and they looked like they are in their late thirties. The lady walked into the train n the guy was walking along the platform together with her as she walked down the aisle of the train. She turned to look out and waved to him n he waved back. This may be their first date or maybe their regular Sunday outing. The guy stood on his spot n I could see their reluctance to part. So in love. And as she sat down, they were still waving until the train started to move and the guy was out of sight. Envy!!!! Hahaha! I am a die hard romantic. The scene was like plucked out from some Barbara Cartland love story books I used to read as a teenager.
When I alighted, I took a peek at the lady and she was fast asleep. Must have been a fun filled day for her! Envy again!!!!!!! When you are in love, every day is Valentine’s Day :)

  4. Kenneth, Yew Kwong, we must be having old memories of Vlentine Day. I wonder if there are more romantic ways of celebrating this occasion, besides the commercial white table cloth, a western dinner set and a bottle of wine.

Gingko, you seem to have good memories of your Valentine Dates. Many of us will look forward to your this Vlentine vivid recollection.

Guys and gals, share with us your plans for Valentine Day.

  5. Yes it was at Hooters where we celebrated Valentines Day with some members. Before the dinner we will waiting at Macdonald nearby for two ladies to arrive. Just across was a florist shop staring at me and the two ladies also staring at me. I got the hint and dip deep into my pocket and got both of them flowers. Such sweet memories for a square like me!
    Dan.
