I would like to wish all SHCians and myself a Happy Happy New Year 2008 with a lots more excitement and laughter, doing activities together and not forgetting, to set aside some time for the less privilege.
My Birthday cum Christmas and New Year wishes for world peace, all SHCians in the pink of health and able to gain financial independence as early as possible. More SHCians coming forward to promote healthy life styles, share their expertise as life is so short.
Last but not least, whatever or whoever I have offended whether in words, writing or body language (you know is unintentional :), my apologies here.

Here in Perth, Christmas celebrations have started in most suburbs with open air live concerts and fireworks and monies from candle sales go to charity. For our families, we will have the traditional Christmas Eve dinner and the merry-making continues right after attending Christmas Eve midnight mass.
Stephen and I wish all of you a Blessed Christmas and begin the New Year with hope and expectancy. May all of us be blessed with peace of mind, patience and loving kindness.

May we continue to strive for health, happiness and prosperity in 2008 and beyond!
At this time we are not only thinking of the past year but also of the next. We’re making new year resolutions (again?) and telling ourselves that this time it will be different. We will want the next year to be the best ever.
But what is our Plan B? Borrowing from what S. Dhanabalan said yesterday at the EDB dialogue, we need to have a backup plan in case Plan A fails.
I’m not giving any suggestions, but just a reminder and wakeup call. Is it a visit to a longtime friend/relative, making time for family, or even just making/updating your will? What if the “if” happens to you? Are you ready with Plan B?
Singapore is now perched on the crossroads of globalisation. Our government is coping well, but are our citizens? Do you know that anyone with $13 million can become a PR? He can use $1.25 million in a property, pay no taxes on income earned outside Singapore, also there’s no tax on capital gains or dividends? No wonder Jim Rogers of Quantum Funds is now a Singapore PR. And private banking assets is spurting upwards.
Also on the news is the $14 billion investment (or bailout?) of UBS Bank by Temasek. Although UBS has to pay 9% interest on this loan option, can it sustain and make a profit? Their subprime loan losses are in the tens of billions!
What I’m saying is that we have to be aware of what’s happening around us which may impact our wealth and our future. And we, at SHC, can and must strive to improve our members’ lot through our collective knowledge, expertise and experience. May we continue to make SHC a great club!

Dennis, when I read your season’s greetings, I saw three men, chatting with one another. The hairs were pretty short, silver and firm.
I am not sure if I can help straighten up the hairs; but guess you still can send a few more greetings.
Maybe Kenneth can help. And Ken, yours is a very inspirational and meaningful message for all of us. We need to give our future a lot more thought. I don’t read enough. Now, a clarification, $13m for a Singapore PR?

Thank you Kenneth @ #10 for jolting us with yr update.
You’re absolutely spot-on that we’ll hv to plan, and, if I may add, not just Plans A & B but all thw way into Zzzzzzzz.
Alas, we’re no more young even tho we may still hv a lot of youth & oomph in us. So, we cant take to the streets and clamour for rights, changes…..and then be put in a whitley bungalow to while away another 10 years.
We’ll just hv to cut corners and cut our plans to shape them according to policy changes, knowing not when & how the next policy change will hit us but knowing surer than a guarantee that it’ll be mammoth & shattering as the annuities policy has been.

One beautiful, mid- December evening Pedro and his Girlfriend Rosita were sitting by the side of the ocean.
It was a romantic full moon, when Pedro said, “Hey, mamacita, let’s do Weeweechu.”
Oh no, not now, Pedro, let’s just look at the moon!” said Rosita.
Oh, c’mon baby, let’s you and I do Weeweechu. I love you and it’s the perfect time,” Pedro begged.
“But I just wanna hold your hand and watch the Moon.” replied Rosita.
Please, corazoncito, just once, do Weeweechu with me.”
