Christina Chua – Profile

Hi,

I am a new member. Will be turning 52 soon. Currently still teaching full time. Apart from reading, I love animals and walking. In fact, I have 2 beautiful dogs – a Chihuahua and a Pomeranian – and I can wax lyrical about them so I better not start. I hope I can find time to join in one or two activities this year. Hope all of you will have a great year ahead.

  2. Hi Henry,

I tend to log in only during the week end. I like this chihuahua breed as they are intelligent, affectionate and don’t bark much. To me, the long coat chihuahua is physically more attractive. I got it from Sookee kennel and the pom was from a pet shop in Upper Thomson Rd. My experience has not been good as both became very ill (near death) the second day. Nonetheless, they both survived with the help of the vet at ARC. Pls do not buy any pets if you have no time for them or are likely to lose interest when they are not so cute anymore. I suppose current market price can range from a few hundred for local breed to more than a thousand for the pedigreed and certified ones. To me, these pets are like children and a life-time responsibility. So I hope you will consider carefully before even purchasing one. Have a good week end.

    Rgds, Chris

  3. A SHC friend, Steven Chan first encouraged me to have pets on this very forum. He is a dog enthusiast and speaks passionately of them. I originally only wanted 2 huge killer guard dogs because two of my new immediate neighbours have two large dogs each. I didn’t think it was fair for me to get barked at will without having any means to retaliate and level the power balance in the neighbourhood.

Cut a long story short, I was given two dogs by a relative. I thought that they were ideal when I was told that they bark a lot. When told of their pedigree, I thought that “Pomeranian” sounds exotic, menacing and deadly enough.

So when I first went to collect the dogs, I said ” the puppies are cute but where are the dogs ? “.

Now I know better. It is true they bark louder than dogs twice their size. They bark loudly when there is no one around because they are lonely. They love human companionship. Any human. They don’t bark at strangers. They love haircuts and being tickled. They don’t bite anything unless it is food. They are also very selective eaters. Now I understand what my neighbour means by “they are well trained”.

There is a happy ending. I learned to accept my lot. And they are loved and very much part of the family now.

Moral of the story: Check the internet and do your due diligence first.

    Epilogue:
Does anyone knows what happended to Steven. He disappeared about the same time as the appearance of my pets. I want to show him my killer dogs.
