  1. It was an exciting finish followed by an equally sensational prize money setting.

On Monday 18 March 2008, we met at Scorebot at 4 pm to witness the winning trade for the first prize. Some hopeful consolation winners (including Jie, Chris, Grace etc) turned up early to try to catch the market on the rebound. But Alicia, our winner followed soon supported by her sister. So a fight was averted.

We quickly saw the MACD indicator giving a bearish signal. Whilst the machine was setting up to sell, the group started a short discussion on autotrading and technical analysis. You could see the blank looks as everybody struggled to understand how trading in the world’s some of the most liquid and volatile markets can be as easy as a walk in the park. In fact easier. With autotrading, the human is suppose to do anything but trade. The robot takes over completely all the work; leaving the human all the time to play.

As if on cue, the computer promptly sold 0.01 lot Euro/USD at 1.5790, Time for the first trade was 5pm (Spore time). This is against the trend which is to buy Euros/USD. Given that there is structural weakness in the US economy and in the wake of the widening global banking crisis, it takes a not very smart computer, or a foolhardy one, to be selling Euros or buying USD. Nevertheless, we left the computer to do its own thing.

Mid-way threough our second talk on equities and the house strategy of long equities short CFD, the machine decided it has enough. After a nail biting session, the computer vindicated itself by taking profit at 1.5743 at 6.06 pm making a profit of 47 pips or profit of 0.3% in an hour. Although the computer wqas trading against the trend it made profit on the first call. Sometimes you lose on the first trade but the computer will eventually managed the trade to profit given time.

What does this result mean? Forex is autotraded around the clock for 20 trading days per month. Assuming one makes 10 pips per hour on average of profit or 0.1% return per hour. This small amount of net winning could lead to 50% return per month on the amount traded. If you trade 20% of your capital, this means 10% ROI (return on investment per month).

Of course, a single trade is not a statistic. At times, one could hold a fairly large open position but never to exceed your equity or investment. The program is designed to keep you in the game hence the small starting trade of 0.1 lot. The computer will start to manage the trade if the market moves against one’s initial position until the position turnaround from loss to profit.

When backtested over the last three years, the autotrading forex routine can be shown to yield 30% to 70% return when done this way. The computer does this regardless of adversities and extreme fluctuations in the market.

So happy? Alicia can collect her prize. And one surprise bonus. She wins a autotrading course/workshop and can get to trade for real money within a fortnight if she so chooses.

The rest of the consolation winners can also sit in if they can make it. The winner has privilages. She gets to choose the time.

  2. So after all these mumbo jumbo, what was Alicia’s prize that she was hers to take home last nite?

Or is it a prize-to-be – given time.

Well, a sparrow in hand is always worth more than a colony of ostriches digging their heads in the bush & waving their butts.

On 230108, most of us at Scorebot agreed that the STI will head south. At its close yesterday, the STI was set back by another 257 points.

Inflation will roar on for a long while more altho I am with ah yew pek that we as a nation will pull thru.

Thx for the good news. As Tim Liu asked, I am asking too – what is my prize ? What did I win ? You are keeping everybody in suspense. Not so good for today’s super volatile market ! Haha
And thx for the surprise bonus, I will certainly take it up to learn more from you guys who are experts in this area.

  5. Alicia, your price is 47 pips in USD to be converted into S$ for a Mirco A/C. The FX Algo Trading course in the retail market we are pricing at S$2,980 per pax. This can be possibly as what KT says you potential ATM machine.

Those Five consolations winners quickly arm twist KT before he withdraw the offering.

  6. Hi Alicia

Congrats that you win a handsome prize. would you like to share.????.

    Dear all:

Just to clarify what I shared with 4 SHCians on Monday (17 March) evening.

The second talk was on :
Knowing, Understanding and Applying Fundamental Foundations and Key Financial Indicators in Value investing Profitably.

We went through concepts in understanding business performance, company financial position and condition, and company valuation, and setting a range of share prices expectation to buy and sell equities.

How much it costs one to buy a share/equity is important, just as it is equally important when one wants to sell so to gain profitably.

I did not advocate “long” in shares. Every investor is recommended to have his strategic plans, know and understand his/her financial expected performance and condition.

Besides above three paragraphs, I gave a brief review on value investing principles, framework, setting a basic systems and risks management, knowledge and understanding of economics, sector selection, iFRS, govt policies and invisible hands, and having healthy habits and disciplines needed to be successful.

I also shared briefly the secrets of master investors in value investing.

I teach above at all three levels from introductory (for beginners) to advanced (serious investors)level.

I do not do day trading. I did not advocate mixing day derivative(s) trading and value investing. They are different.

Equities belong to a financial assets class. A shareholder own the shares until one sells them.

    Warmest regards

    Andrew

  7. Heee, Alicia, better put a stop (trading) order and asks for the 47 pips to be converted to USD otherwise the pips might turn into 47 baby teats……..

Think I hv commented enough on this and will end it with the usual advisory, that in any form of putting in money for more money, there’re risks so pls pls understand thoroughly and inside-out before you invest – understand enough is not enough.

And weed the greed otherwise one can get into very big shit..

  8. Dear fellow forum users,

I am afraid you have overstepped the boundaries of this Post. This Post of National Dish has been misused to discuss investments.

I ask that this to be stopped immediately.

    Terence Seah

  9. I agreed completely with Terence’s action.

Let no relevant things to be discussed in a dedicated thread.

    I was merely clarifying myself.

  10. Terence @ #9

Please focus on the topic of the thread. Terence is absolutely correct.

The only discussion outside of the Singapore National Dish results and specific prize related matters should be kept in a separate thread which I will post.

Postings in all forums tend to drift especially on controversial, challenging and popular topics. This is normal.

But in areas of investment, one have to be doubly discerning. Not as a matter of rule but a matter of courtesy.

Someone in this forum said to the effect, “one man’s meat is another’s poison”. Investment matters could be highly provocative and stressful to some. To others like myself, we feed on it and benefit from each other’s wisdom.

This is like smoking in public. One man’s smoke should not be forced on the other. The important thing is that we should not impose one on the other. Keep special interest topics within the interest group.

Then all will be happy campers.

  11. Alicia @ #22

Did you watch Kevin Bacon’s movie “Hollow Man”

Have you notice that Dennis’s comments is starting to fade. Better collect quick, quick. Before he disappears altogether.

Wait and you may find yourself needing a password from above to communicate with him from beyond the SHC forum.

    Hee-hee.

  12. Hi Alicia

When shall you realise your earnings and share your benefits, ???? (fen1 yi4 bei1 geng1)?

This proverb comes from a historical event after the fall of Qin Dynasty when Xiang Yu took Liu Beng’s father prisoner and threatened to have him cook after the latter cut off the former troops’ food supply chain.

Xiang Yu thought Liu Beng would be anxious and flustered.

Instead his reply to Xiang Yu was : You and I are sworn brothers. My father is also your father. If you have him cooked, do remember to share with me the delicious soup (????)- the benefits.
