  1. Alamak Dan, you are banging your head on the wall again. Pity the poor wall.

How come your posting has so many strange characters like and ?

Eh, got so many Americans there. Will Nasi Lemak Selamat be a killJoy there or not?

    Joy, the scaredy-cat

  2. Joy, no more banging my head if it give you headache, I have banished it!

I don’t see any peculiar things. Must be your eyes playing trick on you. Don’t be paranoia, the American here to protect us!

    Killbill Danz

  3. Dan, Joy isn’t being paranoia and her eyes aren’t seeing things cos I see them too. I shall try to rid them for you. But strange, how is it that you don’t see them!!

  4. Dan, I just removed those and and now is ok. Beats me why you don’t see it. IT experts to the rescue for explanation.
Hope you don’t mind I kaypohed to remove them but for sure I will never add/delete any of original your text.

  5. Joy @ #1

Joy, don’t be scared. Yes, you can bring nasi lemak as the food sold there are mainly american and can be quite costly. In fact, most families bring their own makan and picnic sheets.

I have always enjoyed going to this event because the programs are so well organized with fireworks to end the night.

Terror Club is next to the US Navy Base in Sembawang.

  6. Hi Eleanor

I would like to go. Used to attend such July 4th event when living overseas. Never been to one in Singapore. Thanks for sharing plus providing the web link.

On checking their website, the info is kinda contradictory:
“Pack you picnic basket” vs “NO big bag, liquid carrier, food or alcolhol allowed”.

I can understand for security reasons……. to prevent Selamat and his kind from striking terror in a place packed with Americans. That being the case, they should delete the other phrase unless it was meant for the Americans citizens only.

Whatever the case may be, those who are going, do check out the website for the Do’s and Don’ts so as not to get disappointed. I expect there will be security checks at the entrance.

    Eleanor / Dan,
Are you taking registration here? or is everyone to go on their own? If you are taking registration, please provide some logistics as the website did say not to drive.

Looking forward to some Sloppy Joe & pumpkin pie….sluurpp

  7. Hi Lily,

    No parking facility provided.

Yes, registration is open for the purpose of co-ordination, to decide on mode of transport.

Not allowed to bring foods n drinks as we can buy over there!

    Danz

  8. Hi Lily

Glad that you can join us. Dan is the EO for this event so he will be taking registration here.

The 4th July is an important annual celebration for the American community here but it has always been a low-key event so not many are aware of this celebration. Hence, you are no exception.

You did raise some valid points on the security issues with regards to our belongings. I will clarify with the organizing committee on the picnic basket. In recent years, I recalled seeing a big bin filled with some backpacks at the entrance where the metal detectors are. Prior to the 911 attack, we could walk in and out of the field without going through any metal detectors.

As for food and beverage, I believe the organizing committee would like us to patronize the food stalls. Each year, the sponsors contribute quite a substantial amount of money to make this event possible.

Transport arrangement will be shared later when the details are ready. There are usually shuttle buses running between the MRT station and the picnic ground.

I’ll keep you posted once the info are out.

  9. Hi Dan & Eleanor,

    Thank you for sharing.

Please include me in the party. It’s been years since I last celebrated Independence Day with my American friends who worked in Singapore.

Yeah! ring, rock freedom with fireworks rocketing in the sky. Would be nice to bring your own wine & picnic basket too, but…

  10. Hi Dan and Eleanor,

Thanks for the info, miss the 4th July long weekends so will try to turn up when I can. Miss their simple homecook barbecue, buffalo wings and atmosphere of open air picnic.

  11. Dear Danz / Eleanor,

Thanks for the update. Please include me in your registration. Will keep a look out for details here. Thanks again.

  12. Hi Danz & Eleanor

Wow, with such an interesting program is not to be missed. A list of good bands playing round the clock, and with other entertainments will definitely keep the night “young” for one and all.

I would say that, no doubt, NO CAR ALLOWED, according to the website, members who wish to go, can, if they want to,drive to the vicinity of the Sembawang MRT and park around there, so that they could drive home after midnight, and need not worry about catching MRT in time, but if need to organise transport, well and good.

Looking forward to your up-date, and at the same time, on behalf of Alan Bok and Ann Bok, kindly register them, and also include Alice and myself in the list.

    RonLai

  13. Danz & Eleanor,

This is very “ang moh”, something very different, must be very interesting but too bad leh, I got my office D&D on that day. Danz, I can’t help laughing….ha…ha…can you please change Gingko Nut to Gingko Tay….ha…ha…ha..

    Ah Nee

  14. Hello Dolly

You back already?? Just saw the post last night leh. Don’t want to bother you while you’re on work trip mah. Thot I’ll find out more before asking you lor.

Where are the rest hah? Lina Ng, Charles Wee, Sue Chang – quite near our place leh, want to go?

Molly, Ron Lee, Yew Kwong, John Howe, Boon Lian, Veronique, – going? Any name I missed out, please forgive. It’s just that these are people I hanged out with recently, so they came to mind.

The Americans are good at organising such events, so it should be fun.

  15. Yah Lily I heard you. Wud very much love to join you in the fun but got dinner to attend at nite. May join you after dinner for 2nd/3rd session. YK going malacca with PK & RW mah. Looks like July 4 & 5 are hot dates. Too many events going on. Dont be surprise if orgy nite falls on the 4th…. just guessing.

  16. Hi Lina Ng, Charles Wee, Sue Chang, John Howe, Boon Liang, Veronique, Marg, Jonathan, Lawrence n Ronald Lee, Susan Chan n Terence, Eileen n Alfred,

Come and join in the fun, just like went we hit Raffles Town Club two moons ago. Bring your dancing shoes!

    Danz

  17. Hi Lily #19/Dan #21

Thanks! I saw my name surfaced by both of u calling me to join in the fun. My initial concern was parking issue because I won’t be able to drive and going home alone after midnight without transport is a problem. Since Lily you mentioned in the email to John Howe (cc to me) that we can car-pool to Sembawang and leave our vehicles at a place where parking is FOC – thanks to Molly.

In fact, I’ve been to Terror Club many years ago during my hashing days and I don’t mind to re-visit the place. Furthermore, I’m now going with the SilverHairs gang who are more sedate. Unlike previously, I was there with a rowdy bunch of Hashers. So, this time will be a different experience, I guess………

Thanks Eleanor for extending the invitation to us.

  18. Hi Veronique,

Glad you can join in the fun!

I beg your pardon, we at Silverhairs more sedate, you mean on sedatives? On the contrary we can be rowdy, hilarious and compromising. Don’t forget we got an orgy night coming!

I am sure lot of us here would deny that we are sedate, there so much fun and adventures and frolicking ahead!

    Danz

  19. Hi Dan,

Yes, Silverhairs are more sedate as compared with the Hashers.

    Calling Jeffrey Lim!

May be you would like to elaborate on this.

  20. Hi all, I copied the following info from the club web, FYI

    What to bring:
    – Passport or Photo ID
    – 1 small purse or tote per person
    – Cash (SGD) – Credit cards not accepted

    What NOT to bring:
    – A vehicle – NO parking available
    – Additional fireworks – NO sparklers, noisy firecrackers, or other fireworks allowed.
    – Coolers or backpacks – NO big bags, liquids or liquid carriers will be allowed.
    – Food or alcohol – NO additional food or alcohol. Only exceptions are food for medicinal or child care purposes.
    – Items violating Singapore law

  21. Hi jane,

Thanks so much, we missed all that. Actually don’t want to clutter the post. I keep thinking why I need to bring my passport along. Can’t be so serious just to attend a Ball!

    So you coming?

    Danz

  22. Since I’ve been called, and firstly, quite likely I’ll be out of town that weekend so I better not commit my attendance. Thanks Eleanor for extending the invitation to us.

Veronique was, while I still am a member of the Hash House Harriers. The best description of the HHH is that it is a drinking club with a running problem or a running club where the running bit is optional.

The main event is the party after the run, if one decides to run at all. As the level of amber fluid (as beer is referred to in the HHH) rises, the level of inhibitions lowers. Quite thankfully, with that much beer nobody remembers what happened the previous night.

Quite legendary are the parties at international hash meets (called Interhash). In fact Veronique and I were just reminiscing about the Interhash at Pattaya some years back…about the impromptu nudist beach…about skinny dipping in the hotel pool at 2 am.

  23. Hi Lily @#20/Dan @#22

Thanks! I heard both of you calling my name. Would like to join but am invited for dinner on that night. Make it another time, another place. You guys enjoy and have fun.

  24. Dear Lily & Dan,

Have to attend a function on this day so regret unable to join you people. Would have loved to try out the bungee jump though. You enjoy. Catch up with you another day.

    Thanks for remembering me.

  25. Hi John,

Regret to know you cannot join us. Want to try the bungee jump, i will join you! I did a bungee jump at Batam Waterfront many moon ago.

I was single then, you know trying to impress someone. Ended only with a Certificate of Courage which cost me S$49!

    Danz

  26. Hi Dan,

Pls refer to Jeffrey Lim’s comments#32 and you will be convinced that Shcians are more sedate than the Hashers.

Hi Jeffrey! Thanks for your input. I like your description of the HHH as “a drinking club with a running problem or a running club where the running bit is optional”. But, I must confess that when I was a member of the HHH, I was in fact a serious runner but followed up with boozing and clubbing after which – those were the days. Yes, we were just talking about the Interhash at Pattaya which happened 22 years ago and that was a real culture shock for me. Anyway, SHC is different from HHH with membership comprising majority “Ang Mohs”.

  27. Hi Veronique n Jeffrey,

I must admit now that SHC are more sedate that HHH.

While we have various activities which cater to various needs, we do not indulge in heavy drinking or clubbing! Moderation is the key to sanity!

We may have orgy and nudist camp but that as far as we go in our imagination.

    Danz

  28. Hi Dan. Yes, pls include me. I’d like to experience this open air concert & fireworks. Pls let me know how to get there. Are we meeting at some convenient spot & carpool there? Pls include me in the carpool. Hope we can get to do some dancing as well. Thanks.

  29. Hi Lydia,

Welcome, will keep you posted of direct transportation or car-pool.

Yes, there be lot of dancing, Cha cha cha, Rock n Roll, Rumba, Samba, Disco rock, Saturday night fever n the whole works!

    Danz

  30. Dan, I missed the Rockin’ Good Times at Pasir Ris as I was sick like a dog. :-( I want to go to this one. Am keeping my fingers crossed. So please include me. Hope to dance a little. :-)

  31. Dear All

    Thank you for your interest.

For this year, the organizing committee suggests that we purchase food and beverage there. Picnic sheets are allowed but big bags have to be left outside the picnic ground.

Here is the latest update on transportation arrangement (I’ve conveniently cut and paste it here):

How do I get there?: SMRT is the preferred method of transportation partner for this year’s event. They will provide a shuttle service from the Sembawang MRT station to the Terror Club every 30 minutes between 4 pm and 10 pm AND fixed pricing for standard, Mercedes and MPV taxis. For all advance taxi bookings to and from the venue, visitors are encouraged to call Alvin at 9692 2823.

    SMRT Rates
    MPV Taxi (7 capacity)
    1 Way – $38
    2 Ways – $72

    Mercedes Taxi (4 capacity)
    1 Way – $38
    2 Ways – $70

    Standard
    1 Way – $30
    2 Ways – $50

  32. Hi Eleanor,

Thanks for providing us information on mode of transport with regard to the venue at Terror Club.

Molly, did you mentioned that we may park close by with no parking charge. Otherwise, those who drive, you may park at Sun Plaza and jump onto the shuttle buses from Sembawang MRT as indicated by Eleanor.

I understand that the bus ride is free!

    Danz

  33. Hi Eleanor

Thanks for the infor. on transport to and fro Terror Club. As you have been to the club before, can you roughly let me know the distant from the Sembawang MRT to the club?

    RonLai

  34. Hi Dan,
Did not mentioned anything on free parking. Think it was Lily referring to car pooling. I hv got dinner that night and will not be able to join in the party. Tks

  35. Hi Ron

To be honest with you, I have never taken the public transport to the Terror Club. We drove there every year but finding a parking space had always been a headache.

This year, I plan to take the public transport there. So shall we meet at the Sembawang MRT station and go as a group? Dan, would you like to take the lead please?

    Thanks.

  36. Hi All,

Tentatively we meet at Sembawang MRT at 3.30pm.

Those wanting to go as a group to Terror Club, please indicate, we shall liaise from here.

    Danz

  37. Mega, welcome! Glad that you are joining us in this event as a new member.

You may wish to share a little bit on your background with the rest of the group members here so that you would not feel alienated that day.

(Gentle reminder – event is next Saturday)

  38. Hi Mega

Is nice to see that you had signed up as a member of SHC, as what we had personally discussed lately. You will find that there are many activities in the fold, and to find out more is to participate in the events.

As what Eleanor indicated about sharing a little bit of your background, kindly go into our founder, Terence’s posts dated 14.10.2006 on “HOW TO GET OTHER SHC TO KNOW MORE ABOUT YOU” and dated 19.04.2007 “WRITE A SHORT STORY ABOUT YOURSELF”.

    RonLai

  39. Hi Eleanor & Danz

What I want to know about the distance from the Sembawang MRT to the Terror Club is that, in case we have to leave after l0.00pm, and no shuttle buses available, we may have to palce booking for taxi now, ourselves.

    RonLai

  40. Hi Ron,

Based on the street directory the distance by car drive should not be more than 5 minutes.

It quite near to Sembawang Park!

    Danz

  41. Hi,

To all coming for the celebration, be early to secure a proper place to enjoy the night!

A gentle reminder, meet at Sembawang MRT. We will catch the shuttle bus at 3.30pm.

    Danz

  42. Hi Ron Lai, Lily n Dolly,

See you folks over there this Saturday.

Lydia, are you coming to meet us at the Sembawang MRT to catch the shuttle bus at 3.30pm.

    Danz

  43. Sori Danz! I didn’t monitor the comments on website closely. Anyway, thanks for your advice regarding carpark via sms.

I’ll meet u all at the Sembawang MRT by 3.30pm.

So, lets see how terror is Terror Club!!

  44. Hi Margaret, Lydia n Veron,

The meeting at 3.30pm is off. As the shuttle bus will be in operation every half hour, those going will have to suit their own timing. Those who are early may reserved the sitting for the rest of us!

I am planning to visit the Lendan Skin fair before going for Independance Day. Anyone keen?

    Danz

  45. Dan,
Will have to cancel. Final fitting for my girl’s wedding. Not my dresses but have been asked to go and ‘help to look’. Feel so wanted, hehe, so am going along. Sorry for cancelling.

  46. Hi Mary,

Perfectly okay, your daughter come first!

Hi Margaret, Lydia, Veron and those planning to be there early, meet me at 3.30pm at Sembawang MRT. We will go together in the shuttle bus.

Just realized that that the skin fair is not for me!

    Danz

  47. Thanks for organising, Dan. I will find my own way there. Will only be able to arrive around 8pm. Hope i don’t miss out too much. Just wondering should i take my dinner before i go, or will there still be food on sale at 8pm? Please reserve a good place for me. I will look out for your guys when i arrive.

  48. Hi Dandy Dancin’ Danz & Eleanor

It was really a fun nite, with very tight security, like, as if we were at the airport, every bit of things had to go thru X-Ray screen, with guns and machine guns along the roads, without exceptions very tight security.

We had much fun eating and dancing at the front of the stage, with high-powered bands playing all nite long. There was a tense moment when the national anthems of Singapore and America were sung and played. It was a nite to be remembered.

    Ron n Alice Lai

  49. Hi Danz

Thank you for organizing this event. I enjoyed myself very much and took home a picture taken with Obama. I did not realise he is so tall……. or rather I’m that short!

Your photos were very well taken. Thank you for sharing.
