Something for Halloween night – Fri, Oct 31, 2008

This is definitely not a confirmed event!  But, if it comes true, it will be a strictly SHC event.

Halloween Day falls on Oct 31 each year.  I guess most of you know what is Halloween day.  Imagine SHCians meeting one another with cut-out water melons over their heads and dressed in tathered torn cotton dresses.  And everybody tryng to frighten one another with ghostly laughter and strange faces.

Liquor is not something I support, altho must confess most of us sin in this area.  I think a bit of it is fun.  The angmos enjoy this day, as this is a great way to meet other friends, the friendly way.  Imagine rushing off for Halloween, immediately after work, change into something ghastly, bring along a huge pumpkin, with cutout eyes, nose and wide smile, and chatting with one another, until 1.00am.  Then when the clock strikes 12, everybody suddenly downs their pumpkin head, and enjoy the fun moments of laughter, realising how young each of us really is.  An excellent occasion to practise the SHC Hug.

SilverHairsClub has only one objective; and that is to provide a platform for SHCians to meet new and more friends.  Enjoy the fun of being natural.  CPF, retirement, money and how to survive till 85 are important issues, but there is also plenty of life ahead to look forward to.  So, go to the market this weekend, and buy the largest pumpkin that fits your head, eat the inside; and dry the husk.

Now, for all SHCians, do you know of such a place in Singapore, when we can have a fun Halloween evening?  We can meet at 8pm, and escape in our chariots and donkeys ready by 1am.  Big enough for 80 – 100 giants and dwarfs, with settings like the inside of Disneyland’s "It’s a small world".  Dinner not important, as everybody would have eaten a brown bear; but obviously, some little fried rats and grasshoppers would be great.  Some music would be great.

Think wild.  Why not?  And, share your thoughts, even though they may be crazy.  Dont be shy.  If you have never met anyone in SHC, this would be a great evening to meet new friends.  Please raise your left hand.

No promises yet, but put this date in your diary.  If you think your diary is clear, and you like to meet other SHCians with similar interests, please put your name here too.   By the way, I have not found the EO yet.

  1. Having SilverHairs means moving on with our lives. Do meet new friends, and fight hard to live till 85. Easier say than done; but if you have never heard of Halloween, check it out now. It’s all about ghosts and scarecrows.

  2. Hey Terence

Does one of the bungalows in Aloha Changi (check out: http://www.aloharesorts.com.sg) fit your idea of Disneyland’s “It’s a small world”? On a late Friday nite, you might just find several species of homo sapiens in the vicinity of Changi Village. Then lead your witches on a procession ending at the old Changi Hospital by 12am i.e. if the place is not barricaded yet for development. How’s that for spookiness? Don’t forget the brooms though!

Another location n at no cost. I recall there being an open land in front of the Changi Village Food Centre. If it’s still there n we can use it, the witches can still go haunt the homo sapiens and find out if they can haunt or will be haunted at the Changi Hospital!

  3. Nothing beats having the halloween at choa chu kang cemetry where we have more friends there to make many of whom will easily qualify for membership on the spot. The party wont end there as some will either follow us home or visit us sometime in the future.

In reciprocity, we too can visit them and have a feel of the life down there before making our final sojourn. They probably too have their olympics and with SHC so rich in talent – all rounders – we wont have to wait 48 years or for a foreign talent to win us a medal……………………

  4. Terence,

Where else to hold your Halloween night, your very own Changi Beach Club lah. An ideal place to host the Halloween night, near to Hendon camp, Old changi hospital & Fairy Point bungalow. The vicinity is quite, spooky…and haunted ??? ‘aaaaaarrrrrgggghhhh’…….so exciting, fun & incredible too.

  5. Hi Ah Nee, YK and Daisy,

Yes, Changi is one possible area for a Halloween night.

Tim, do you have any contacts to your CCK venue? Email address or tel number?

Other ideas for a Halloween night?

  6. Hi Terence

If we are ready we can contact SPI to bring us on a paid n guided tour to these places. We just pick the date.

We can have slaughtering performances like skinning live catch, killing live stock, stoning domestic animals tied to poles. Of course we will do this in a secluded place well hidden away from public.

  7. Hi Yew Kwong @ #7
Have all the fun u want, BUT please be humane and leave
all those torturing and killing of animals alone.
Be kind to all animals – dont harm them.
    Cheers!

  8. Seng, you asked for the number to call. Since we are still in the 7th month, you can call for free at 1800-2255225. They’re all cut nicely for you, no blood no gore and Constance-W will not cry a bucket over any killing…….

  9. AhNee…
Are sure u want to halloween with them?…if i can recall..its only a small spider behind you..u oredi calibot like hurricane!…haha..
    this time…got real hantu u know…if it follow u home..don say i din warn you ah?…hehe

  10. The thought of going for a Haloween party scares me. Never been to one. But if this one is not so scary, then maybe i can try. I agree with Ah Nee that the Changi Beach Club will be a nice venue. Perhaps we can combine it with a sing along session too?

  11. Yew Kwong and Tim, really wild ideas. Keep the ideas flowing in.

DaisyY, had a look at the Aloha website. Guess, this is someplace we should keep in mind for big events. Have you used Chalet 7, which is big enough for 150 people?

Anybody has a tip somewhere, for some place freezing cold? Let’s keep our suggestion box open until 15 Sept.

    Terence Seah

  12. Sori, have been to two smaller units but not Chalet 7. i had thoughts of exploring the bungalows but have not been up to it yet. Wonder if there will be time to do so during the next walk at the Changi Broadwalk.

What r your intentions for a freezing cold place? Anyway, what about the mortuary? I suspect it’s freezing cold right?

  13. Hi Daisy #13, chalet 7 looks good; altho I am not too sure we should use it for the Halloween night. Changi Beach Club is a good venue. But I think we should have more options. Halloween night is a night everyone puts on a *@#%&*# mask, even a clean-out pumpkin.

Calling all the guys who went out with me for men’s night. If you live in a condo estate, and has a good size function room for rent, please yell.

Hi Yew Kong #7, how much does it cost to get a paid guide to this haunted place?

We should take a decision on the venue before 15 Sep 2008.

  14. For Halloween night, so far, we have the following suggestions.

    1. Aloha Changi Chalets.
    2. Changi Beach club, followed by liak kwee.
    3. Downtown East function room
    4. One of the joints along Boat Quay.
    5. I guess we dont have to decide, until 15 Sept or closer the date when the outlets announce their Halloween plans.

    Terence Seah

  15. I shall be away on Halloween night, 31 Oct, and wont be able to spring a surprise to have a night out, and frighten the souls out of our bodies.

Thus, I shall close this; but if any one likes to have a Halloween night out, please continue from here. So sorry.
