VOLUNTEER FOR DOG BOARDING

Hi all I am a dog lover and owned a dog once upon a time but my beloved dog has since gone to heaven. I would love to own a dog again but felt it unfair as I cannot commit the time to take care of it….However, I would like to volunteer to provide free boarding to dog lovers who plan to go for holiday and has nowhere to put their dog. I know dog boarding homes are horrible and no loving care is provided. But pls ensure your dog is toilet trained. Ciao…

Heee, Albert is hissing at me for kachiaoing his………

  3. Hi Maggie,

So kind and caring of you to offer
    your “dog boarding” service.
Do you mind looking after a
    huge & adorable golden retriever,
    weighing abt 30kg.
Each time I bring him for a walk, it’s
more like he’s bringing me to walk as he’s the
one pulling me where to go. :)
    Cheers.

  4. Hi Constance

Wow I envy you having a golden retriever…I adore them..Unfortunately I forgot to mention i can only board small breeds coz my place is like a pigeon hole…

But I would love to meet your doggie…

  5. Sob (and more sobs….), even dogs see me no up and do want to see me down there, what’s there to live for………………(can go home liao, folks happy wkend and see you next week, keep well !)

  6. Have not replied to relationship advisor column but sneaking a reply to another of my passions doggies.

Used to have a variety of large dogs when my parents lived in Malaysia but he smallest breed I kept was a spunky spirited daschund who used to hold his own against the dobermans.Had a Labrador Retriever who was a delight in fetching rolled up newspapers without making a hole in them.He used to dive into ponds and marshes to fetch pigeons(punai) which my parents used to shoot.

Anyway from what I remember Golden Retrievers are a “one man” dog (lady in this case) ie they will follow the master everywhere they go just to be close to the master(mistress). When you move to the kitchen from the living room
he will follow you everywhere.. Is your dog like that?

To solve your pulling problems you can bring training tid bits(either doggy biscuits or chewy bacon treats as opposed to usual dry food meal) on your walks and teach him HEEL and GO(actually you want him to relax but use one syllable word). The command HEEL is meant to keep him on your left at all times and at the command keep him on a tight leash. This command is useful when passing strangers who are afraid of dogs for personal or religious reasons or when crossing a road or traffic lights .Do pat or reward him when he does it correctly .When he is free to explore wander and sniff or do his business you can give the command GO and give him a loose rein. When we have an suitable outdoor gathering(maybe Ronald ‘s bungalow do on 12/13Sep I could demonstrate
and teach him(and you as well) and other commands like DOWN
if he likes to climb on people…but only if you like the idea.If Lydia and the EO agrees ..how about bring dogs to the party.Lydia what do u think of the idea?

  7. Hi Constance Wong,

..each time I bring him for a walk, it’s more like he’s bringing me to walk as he’s the one pulling me where to go.

You have to show him that you are the Mistress and in control. Hold him firmly and direct where you want to walk and NOT allow him to walk where he wishes.

I can board your lovable and friendly Golden Retriever provided he is toilet paper trained and only for a short period.

If interested to board temporarily , pls. write to my email at sfc0007@yahoo.com.sg for detaILS of boarding period.

  8. Hi Maggie & Admin,

  9. Hi Patrick #8, & Steven #9

Many thanks for your tips to handle my dog(Jester). Actually,my son is its’ real master.
My son has him “second hand” when previous owner gave
him up when her children develop alergy(asthma).
Jester has been with our family for 3 yrs now,
and recently moved out with my son, but comes back
to me when my son goes overseas.

And becos, he’s getting bigger and with his unruly
behaviour when I bring him for his walk/toilet break,
it becomes a challenge to me to walk him. He only do it to me! Some bully & smart dog!
Other than that, he’s actually very “quai”, – can
even do exercise/aerobic with me besides playin fetch :)
Nevertheless, I’ll try out all the tips given.

Steven, I will definitely take up your kind offer when occassion call for it in the future. Thanks again!

    Cheers,
    Constance

If all else fails and only if you feel desperate about it.
As a last resort use a choke chain(normally used for dogs like Dobermans,Alsatians) and when u shout HEEL ie at same time u hold the leash tightly. If he pulls the chain will tighten and start choking your dear Jester.

However without an attempt at proper training it would not
be fair to use it on Jester.

Hmm on 2nd thoughts it might be a good idea for the SHC ladies to buy one for RIM TIM TIM (possible spelling error)our imaginary SHC Mascot.I have no issues with his bubbly livewire commments… only when he uses disguised 4 letter words which I believe the ladies object to.Ha Ha Ha hope you like this.
    one.
