An icon to represent a SHCian

For some time, I have been looking for an icon to represent a SHCian.  At first, I wanted to select a picture from our large collection of photos taken during events.  I thought over it, and decided otherwise.  It would be a tough job.  Then, I might offend someone.

Maybe a caricature would be good, but then, I am not sure who among us can do the drawing job.  Last night, I came across a website www.mywebface.com which allows any creative person to generate a cartoon from a set of simple tools.

My hope is to have one male and one female icon to represent SHC members on the website as well as other promotional materials.  If you are creative and like to take the challenge, and like to raise your hand to produce a pair of SHC icons, I would really appreciate it.

  1. Very interesting.

Should it be an icon, an idol or an idle who has a lot of time and love to give to SHC? Or one who is still wide awake roaming this forum like a faithful sentinel in the wee hours and so be made our insignia for his insomnia? Or a mascot who brings SHC cheer and good luck?

If we are seeking only a symbol, some kind of an emblem then my suggestion is to draw inspiration from that circle with a lightning striking it in the middle which has served us very well for 50 years, or the other one which is also a circle with a “S” inside and dividing it into 2 halves which hv been the symbol of solace for hundreds of millions for thousands of years.

  2. Hi Tim,

I have been thinking that some form of human character in the icon would represent SHCians well. No, not a logo as we already have one.

And, anybody likes to give it a try, you may email me.

  3. Oh no no, Sengh, not a private email to you, please. Let the ideas be read, let a thousand flowers bloom.

Alright, so you’re not looking for a symbol or a logo to replace what appears to me as a wisp from my opium pipe or ends of straws clutched by folks drowning below.

Or strands of hair left standing, typical of an angry man (lu fa chong kuan – angry hair butts (or putts if he’s a golfer) the crown).

Ok, let’s see what others have to say………

  4. Tim,

‘……what appears to me as a wisp from my opium pipe or ends of straws clutched by folks………’. Kekekekeeee.

I do like our logo, very apt – ‘hairs’ or what’s left of it.

  5. Yes, Geraldine, if there’s a cutest logo contest, our present SHC logo will definitely win hands down. Absolutely no contest. The few hairs left defying gravity and standing attracts the eyes, will make a baby giggle and a monkey grin.

But what really is an icon? That got me dig deep into my Oxford’s dictionary. I am told that it has got to do with “a person”. So, if a caricature or a carbving is to be made of a person from SHC, indubitably, it has to be Sengh. Absolutely no challenge.

This discussion is in its early days so I shant straddle myself in here more than these 2 postings I have put up.

Patrick-L and Steven……great thinkers, thought provocateurs, where are you?

  6. Hmm, so far no takers for creating an SHC icon. Well, I have created two icons, a male SHCian and a female SHCian. Not ready to put them up yet, but pretty sure next week. Meantime, I shall upload two temporary icons, just for the fun of it. You can throw stones at me if you like. Please refresh your browser. Guess where were they found. Have a great weekend.

  7. Terence,

Besides, the icons, how about creating a slogan for our
club and re-designing the logo to reflect a more dynamic
organisation? We have come a long way since your founding days.

    Examples:
    Slogan –
“Silverhairsclub.com – Live your Silver years to the fullest”
“Silverhairsclub.com – Your Silver years could be your best
    years with us”
“SHC – a Strong, Happy, Caring club for your silver years”
“SHC – Stupid, Haughty, Careless club” definitely a no no!

    Think about it!
