Blue Helmet – 1st brainstorm session

Background to Blue Helmet, click here.

I would be calling the first brainstorm meeting on Blue Helmet on Thur, Sept 21 at the Capital Tower, right at Tanjong Pagar MRT.  1500 hrs to 1700 hrs.  I shall send the invitations to those who have offered to participate.  If you like the idea, and would like to join the brainstorm session, simply let us know here.  I must apologise I am not able to change the above date, due to my travel schedule.  But, there will be many other sessions to follow through.

Agenda:

  • Identify the objectives of Blue Helmet.
  • Brainstorm on the needs of retirees, with the focus on a meaningful, mentally active and financially acceptable lifestyle.
  • Brainstorm on broad ideas of how organisations and governments can tap the wide experience and knowledge of SilverHairs who have retired from full time employment.
  • Brainstorm on an acceptable return to the retired SilverHairs.
  • Identify how SilverHairsClub can create a structure and the process to move ahead with Blue Helmet.

  1. KT, the date and time is confirmed.

Kenneth, your suggestion to look at the GO fund should be raised for discussion. Can you get more info and advise on that day.

I look forward to meeting you too.

  2. Change in the meeting date. I have informed most of you via email that I would miss the date set. My apology.

I have put up another date, Sep 28 Thursday, 1500 – 1700 hrs, same place. Look forward to meeting you soon.

    Bye for now. Terence Seah

  3. A group gathered on Sep 28 to discuss a concept and structure for Blue Helmet. Present: Margaret Cheo, Ronald Wi, Ronald Lee, Gary Loke, Andrew Yeung, Kenneth Tan and Terence Seah.

Blue Helmet is a project to highlight SilverHairs who have retired and able/willing to share their experience and knowledge with organisations outside/inside Singapore. And that the SilverHairsClub is the organisation to approach, with the expertise to help and assist growing companies take their business further.

On the other side of the project, Blue Helmet is intended to assist retired SilverHairs find meaningful activities in nearby overseas countries. These retired SilverHairs should at the same time be willing to train, transfer knowledge and assist overseas companies with their businesses and projects.

Blue Helmet aims to present retired SilverHairs as a skilled, professional, still active and vibrant group, with the aim of serving communities and business, during their SilverHairs years.

At the same time, Blue Helmet aims to project its participating retired SilverHairs, as a group of people who would also like to see the world, able to travel, and get involved with local cultures, for short assignments of 3, 6, or 12 months. In exchange for the contribution, participating organisations and companies would offer accommodation, food and lodging and an allowance of SGD 500 per month.

    Actions:
    * initiating a database of skills. No action on this, as yet.
    * Participating in a Go! Fund. This is a government sponsored fund to assist Seniors to run projects, which benefits Seniors. Thanks to Kenneth Tan for the suggestion. SilverHairs who have ideas to participate in the Go! Fund, should have a look at http://www.mcys.gov.sg/go_fund.

The meeting also talk about some business ideas. These will be discussed under business category. If you have a business idea, that is not MLM, and you need idea or other SilverHairs participation, drop any of the regular SilverHairs a lne.

  4. Please have a look at the concept and structure of Blue Helmet. If you agree, disagree or have some ideas, please share your thoughts here. We will close the first round of discussion on the 30 Oct 2006. After reviewing new comments, we will have another discussion. You are invited to participate.

We will form a team to take Blue Helmet in early Jan 2007. If you like the concept, and willing to do some work to push through Blue Helmet, please drop your name here.

I am a firm believer that we should enjoy a hard-earned retirement, and yet at the same time, we want to lead an active and meaningful life. For many retired SilverHairs, money is a quiet problem. For those who are better off, seeing the world, enjoying other cultures and yet able to do something meaningful, are more than just desires.

I believe Blue Helmet will work for retired SilverHairs, and I am prepared to be part of this team. You are invited.
