Updated SilverHairsClub.com with new features wef 20 Feb 2013

New features have been incorporated in the new SilverHairsClub.com. ?However, it is not fully completed yet. ?We had commissioned a company to do our upgrades; and I am pleased with the change. ?You may test it; and if there are any issues, please feedback on this Post.

If a member asks a questions, please feel free to help out the person. ?For those who are familiar with WordPress, and if you have the time, please organise small get togethers to explain its workings. ?I wont respond to your feedback; although I will read all of them.

The major changes are:

  1. Better control over spams.
  2. Photographs can be added. ?Only one picture is allowed per post; more than that, the Post will be on hold or deleted. ?You may put in a picture that is relevant to the Post. ?If you put in a picture of a person or a group, it is your duty to ensure that approval has been given by that person or the group; failing which you will not be allowed to enter the Club.
  3. For portrait pictures, FULL face must be shown. ?Ideal for member introduction.
  4. The Club taboos continue to apply; no discussions on politics, sex, race, religion, direct selling or MLM.
  5. Any advertisements, not under the monthly fleamart Posts, need to be referred to admin@SilverHairsClub.com. ?T&C apply.
  6. Promotional logos, external organisations, company logos or pictures and pictures of non-members are not allowed.

There will be more changes; and they will be announced over the next few months.

We dont use all the features of WordPress. ?But here are some useful Youtube demos. ?You may try others demos.

  1. Eh Terence,

    Just tried it.

Do we still do centre alignment? I follow past practice ma, and it would adjust to normal left indent for me, but now look!?

    1. Hi fellow members,

Tian Soo seems not to be able to add a picture into the post. Can you try to insert a picture from your computer into a test Post.
      Use category TEST.

      See if the picture appears.

  2. after logging in, “Dashboard” appeared. selected “Comments”…”View Post” and then “Latest Comments”. Had to key in password again in spite of having “Remember Me” checked.

    1. Hi everybody, there is a lot of tests required to see if some of the functions work.
I am on the way to Yangon, Myanmar, and would not be able to read website conveniently.

      Please help to try.

  3. Hi Terence

    Feedback:
New system does not seem to support Chinese characters. Question marks appear (when comment is submitted) in place of the typed Chinese words. :(

    1. Thanks Jassmine for the feedback. I cannot type Chinese, so I did not see the difference.

      Hi DanielC,
Can you also test with Chinese Characters, and give us your feedback.

      Anybody can try too.

  4. Tested the u/m in Test category
    1. Insert Photo error message “no right to insert”. Failed to insert.
    2. Chinese character need WordPress configuration as per http://singapore-web-hosting.vodien.com/how-to-display-chinese-characters-properly-with-wordpress/
    3. Enable “visual editing” will solve disappearing paragraph issue. Can press SHIFT-ENTER in non Visual Editing setting to get line feed.
    4. In Visual Editing, img (photo) can be linked only in Text mode.

  5. Hi Terence,

#11 Item 1 is when visual editing is turned off. At the editor, I click Photo Icon (not the img icon). There is a popup message saying I do not have the rights to upload photo. I did it after typing a few paragraphs and some Chinese characters.

  6. Please feel free to keep testing. We will continue to track reported errors.

Test Posts are deleted after a few days.

Tried using “select file” also gets the same error.
