  1. Hi Kia Chew,

No worries if she is working. We welcome her to join the SilverhairsClub, as long as she is over 45, and agrees to accept the club rules. As a member, she is welcome to post this ad on this forum.

  2. Thanks Terence. But Maria, I believe is in her 20s. Where possible, I will encourage more seniors to join SHC and to take part in the Club’s activities.

  3. Seems like some confusion here.

In his posting, Kia Chew informs and provides the details of a drama workshop for seniors. Maria appears to be employed by the drama centre to take queries and do the registration.

So really, the issue is whether SHC allows the posting of an event organised/class conducted by a non silverhair, even by a biz group? Or only if the same is conducted/organised by a silverhair member is allowed here?

Take it a little further, can a silverhair tell in a posting of, say, a sale, a restaurant or some performance somewhere? It gets a bit tricky but a ruling is necessary so that none will be bemused going forward.

  4. We have not had any written policy on whether a non-member can put up any posting of an event earlier.

In principle, a non-SHC member is not allowed to use this forum. The SilveHairsClub website is strictly for members. As this activity is organised by a non-member, we will consider this posting as not acceptable.

To avoid misunderstanding, please speak with Terence for any such postings. Future similiar postings will be deleted.

  5. I fully agree with Terence that if we are not sure, we should speak to Terence first before putting up such postings.

However, in this case, the posting is put up by me, a member and not by Maria. The reason is that I feel the Workshop may be of interest to some members of SHC.

I adhere to the principles that we should not use SHC as a platform for selling or commercialism.

But what happens if a member knows of a pizza shop that is offering a discount or a restaurant is cooking up an innovative dish, can the member make a posting to inform all the members as a form of sharing. Needless to say, the pizza shop, restaurant and their owners are not members of SHC. This is a bit tricky !

Like I say before, if in doubt, do consult Terence first.

  6. Just a personal view. I agree it can be tricky at times. It is both the the subject matter and the presentation.
If presentation is too direct, and come across to readers as aggresive, the intention could be misinterpreted. So care is needed.
Perhaps a low key approach initially is best to fantom members’ interest before details are released.

  7. Kia Chew, Charles, Tim,

Your feedback is noted. However, I agree it can be tricky too. And, we don’t want to be so rigid that we lose the fun. Apology if i sound too rigid. SilverHairs = creativity too.

I had been aware for sometime that this issue will crop up one day. To allow for commercial and other selling activities, we have created the “Commercial” category under 2GreenDots.com some three months ago. This is to allow the commercial pizzas, seminars, courses, education programs, etc to be advertised, at no charge.

In the meantime, please use 2GreenDots Shopping Mall. Due to insufficient participation in 2GreenDots and few responses from SilverHairs, we have advertised and expanded the shopping mall to the general public. We hope this will enhance commercial and selling activities for members and make 2GreenDots more meaningful. Got to keep trying, with cornering ourselves.

Kia Chew, please feel free to use 2GreenDots.

  8. I can empathise with Terence on how difficult it is to start an interest group & help friends meet, at the same time keeping some needed check & balance for our good. Why? haha, many of us wd hv collected our nest eggs and are clear diamonised targets for the demonised who are ever ready to suck the dim-witted dry. So some rigidity cannot be helped.

On the other hand, it was nice of Kia Chew to want to find somethg healthy for silverhairs to do & kill idle time.

As SHC evolves itself, so will its norms and character. Ultimately, as the founder has created a place for us to meet (which i personally hv come to enjoy), it’s not too much an asking to consult him if in doubt. Only trouble is, sometimes his mobile kenna water so cant reply to us soon enough.

  9. Thanks Tim,

luckily, it’s not always I drop the phone in the toilet bowl. Like many SilverHairs, I too love to encourage creativitiy. Feel free to ask. Although I travel frequently, I can answer your queries pretty quickly.

  10. WOW.. i saw ths posting dated 19 Dec 2006, regarding some drama classes. Posted by a member known as Mr Phua Kia Chew, whom I’ve never met, in the last 5 years! Just wonder, if anything happened after 22 Dec 2006, #11 comment by Terence Seah. I am still keen on drama, and wondering if any members still keen to pursue drama? And Terence, do u know who is Mr Phua Kia Chew, or has he just faded off into the horizon???

For easy ref, I’ve copied his posting (titled 5 week drama workshop for seniors) …
