Would you like to manage and run the SilverHairsClub?

Dear Fellow members,

Last two years, I have not been able to spend enough time with SHC, mainly because I dont have enough time.  As such, not much has been going and we dont have enough activities to keep our club active.

Many members have gone into private groups, and we have lost the cohesion of the club as a whole.  Unfortunately, I dont see myself spending more time; infact, I expect to reduce my time in Singapore.

Would you like to take the lead and give SHC a change?  Ilook forward to hearing from you.

  1. I have so far no response to this post. I can only guess the reasons but not sure what the true reasons are.

While members may see active participation in some of the EO activities that I do, I have to admit I do not have the time, as I travel 80-90% of the time outside Singapore. It is hard to organise activities for members, and it is equally bard to find volunteers to help out. Many members have ideas, but few raise their hands to lead; and it is always “try somebody else” or “Perhaps, next time”.

I would like to hand my role to someone else or an organisation. If we dont make such succession plans, one day, it will be closed naturally. and all the systems and organisation will closed suddenly. We give it a go ahead, if you have ideas and suggestions. Interested, can always whatsapp me.

  2. Due to my travelling schedule, I won’t be able to spend time in Singapore with SHC. I discussed with some members who feel we should try to bring up a management committee who may be able to run the Club and bring SHC to another level.

The response has been good, although we have still to work out the details. If a new team can run SilverHairsClub, I shall run let the new committee run the show. The reality is if we fail to find a workable committee, I am inclined to close SHC by Dec 31, 2016.

  3. Yes, we will relook the suggestion to take SilverHairsClub to any level. Over the next week, I shall share with you some of the comments and suggestions from members.

No names, only the thots and suggestions.

  4. I had randomly sent out to our general membership, those members who joined between 2005 and 2010 to be part of a new management committee. We had sent the notice via SMS, not whatsapp or email.

Surprisingly members respond via sms very quickly. Far quicker than via Whatsapps and email. I had thot Whatsapp was ultra modern for SHC members; but it seems traditional SMS works better and faster.

From the responses, I gather that those who are fast with Whatsapp are generally not fast in response with SMS. And vice versa.

!. I see a call to revamp our club policies. For example widening our membership base. Current guidelines are over 45, Singaporean and PR, and no discussions on sex, race, religion, politics, direct selling and MLM. But, no one came up with suggested guidelines changes.

    2. I hear a call to be profit driven; rather than loss making or at cost events. Some reasons highlighted were at-cost events have resulted in many cancelled events because there were not enough numbers participating.

    There are others.

Thank you for the initial feedback. All members who have indicated interest to participate in a new management team will meet separately to finetune their ideas.

  5. We have a number of responses from members who have written in to say they would like to take over the SilverHairsClub. One member, relatively new, with links to grassroots has offered. He has requested for full autonomy, with no interference from me. I had asked him to share his visions for the club; but unfortunately, he felt insulted; and we could not continue the discussion further.

A very senior member, more than 7 years with the Club, participates in activities a couple of times, have written in to indicate he would onlybe interested to take over and run SHC if Club is profit oriented. Under the current Club concept, he was not interested. He was not able to offer ideas and suggestions; and we left the discussion as such.

There were two other members who have indicated interest; but they were unable to share their ideas. In both cases, the view is SHC should change its objective, open up to a wider group of age groups and be more flexible with its activities.
