Remember the cabaret days and nightouts at the nightclub?

A few days ago, we had our Sep monthly gathering;  the event was so much fun.  And all of a sudden, I thought of having a nightout at a nightclub and cabaret.  Would it be nice if we are all part of this theme?  Some of us may have bad experiences; but I hope you will look at what I am going to write next in good light and good old memories; and not think that I am some bad hat.

Some of us have frequented nightclubs in our good young days.  For men, it could be a good night out with some young hostesses.  For  businessmen and businesswomen, a night out at the cabaret can bring in that difficult deal.  And, for some men, downing a bottle of martell helped drown sorrows and sad memories.

Imagine yourself one night, during the late 70’s, on the 9th floor of Majestic nightclub and cabaret in Taipei.  You had your car valet-parked by an attendant, and then you are up the lift with 3 other men.  Very quickly, the door hostess addressed you as Ta Ker, and lead you to a round sofa.  After you ordered your drinks, the mamasan came along, introduced a few ladies to you and your associates.  Within a few minutes, everybody settled down.

Not very far in front of our table was a stage, with blinking lights.  Mei Hua, top singer at Majestic nightclub was singing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCPYNcijVkE. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .  In the nightness, on the dance floor, was a group of men and women holding one another, around the waist and neck.  After the second song, the numbers changed, and my partner just walked away, and I went back to my table.

The mamasan kept introducing us to other ladies; we kept drinking and dancing throughout the night, listening to nostalgic songs.  Sometimes, we drank too much, and the bouncers would help us to our car, but not without paying the bill and tips.  It was always a night to remember.

Again, I must warn that this is a bad habit of mine.  I like to dream and when we have enough people to share the dream, we make that dream happen.  You can take one of the roles, as mamasan, dance hostesses, businessman, lady guest, door hostesses, singer or drinks pourer.  You can also be nightclub owner.  And, for the men and ladies who have never been to a nightclub cabaret, you can come as guest, make sure you are escorted.  Share with us your experience too.

Take this as a fun nostagic evening, among friends, a chance to show how naughty we were during our younger days.  An opportunity to show how seductive and sexy we can be, an opportunity to sing love and hate Chinese songs from the 70’s, a chance to be a bitchy mamasan, and for some men, to show off how big the wallets are and how big the tummies can get.  We can adjourned to the nearby teochew muay stall after midnight.

I would appreciate no one makes fun, insult or upset fellow male or female SHCian.  The bouncers will have a say, if you can enter.  This event is strictly for registered SilverHairsClub members.

  1. If you can bring in the rich taokays and a full night every night, and are ready to sing for SHC Majestic International nightclub, choose a song from the 1970’s, and let us hear it on youtube. We will award you a one night singing contract if we like your song. I think it has to be a mandarin song, sad, romantic, meaningful, got to do with love, vocal and evergreeen.

  2. Hi Terence,
yes let’s make this happen, have some fun and get all the SHCians involve, everyone will have a role and do the naughty things we did in our younger days and of-course dress like the 60’s.

I would like to share some of those memories of the good old days like going to the night clubs in the 60’s & 70’s, cause there’s no disco in those days. Or we will go to house parties almost every Saturdays night.

I remember going to the opening of a nightclub called “The Tropicana in Ming Court Hotel” but have since change it’s name now to Orchard Parade Hotel. We girls will dress in our best to feel sexy like mini skirts, the shorter the better, our hair will be bun up as high as a beehive and the guys will wear tight jeans or hipster with bell bottoms as if the pants is going to drop. They will pick us from our homes with their Morris Minor ha ha, we always feel proud/great if any of our boyfriends will come with a car to pick us from our door step and our “kay poh neighbours” will poke their heads out and “wah” they goes. Those days most of us stay in kampongs, no such thing as HDB flats.

In the nightclubs we will drink and dance to the music of Ago go, Twist, Cha Cha, Limbo Rock etc etc… right through the morning.

The next day will hear music from our parents lor.

    Those were the days….

  3. The nostalgic days of wine, women and song.
    My favorite was Apollo nightclub
and Golden Million where some good shows were performed.

Due to my job nature, In the 70s, when I was not outstation,
my clients from Indonesia and Bangkok will be entertained in
    this two quite exclusive nightclubs.

The mamasan are the more sophisticated ladies. Most of the
hostesses were raw and just wanted to earn tips and opened bottles for their commission. The more bottles they opened the better. I am talking about the (sorry) XO bottles.

Life was basically holed in the slizzy ‘joints’ till the wee
hrs of morning and fetching the important clients back to the respective hotels.

I always played smart to book their stay in the King or Miramar Hotel next door and I need not drive them back too far. It could be terrible after your drinks. Luck had it , I was never caught for alcohol influenced driving. Maybe not so strict those years.

Melchinta, in JB, was also popular with my clients because of its special shows. Life was nite became day and day became nite. My company’s flexibility to me, made it easier
for me to entertain late to the morning.

To recollect those days, sent a chill in my spine. Where do I find such energy to do it so frequently. It was my job then. And I must thank my wife for the understanding those days. I might have lost her if not for her magnanimity as a wife, as a woman. No women will like a husband to embrace hostess so often and bring back the cheap smell of perfume.
Many hostess wears cheap perfumes.(no channel 5, or Christian Dior).

Now, in reflection, I thank my ability to balance life with family. My antidote was holiday overseas once or twice a year without fail. And drew a demarcation line between the sophisticated mamasan, the hostesses. I was no angel. the devils of temptation was always lurching. The benefit of a doubt under such settings.

I do not drink anymore. Only red wine with soft music, not even beer. The smell of liquor nauseates me now.

I thank the experience of that life. That was why along the way I picked up meditation and to this day has benefitted me tremendously. My retreats and awakening is a new life for the remorse in certain ways for neglecting my family. I can never make up the lost time of family cohesion and warm.
I missed hugging my young children those years of life in the fast lane.

I will never make up for lost time but can reminisce the wild days of women, wine and song. The ‘meaning’ of life and career in those days. It took 12 years of my sanity in such fast lane.

A balanced of life is the most ideal. We only can speak through experience. And experience was costly.

  4. Haha Terence,
Were u out last nite with the boys drinking ?
There were repetitions of your lines (5 times)”In the nightness, on the dance floor, was a group of men and women holding one another, around the waist and neck. After the second song, the numbers changed, and my partner just walked away, and I went back to my table..” Guessed the second song brought you back fond memories of ur Ta Ker days hehe…

  5. Well, Terence repeated it 5 times and I too noticed it.
And he hugged the hostess 5 time lah. ‘Pai seh’ to say leh.
    so repeated 5 times. Hahahaa!

  6. Yes Clara, that was so funny…I was laughing away reading that long para. :-)) But then, did he intentionally put it that way just that he forgot to change the no. of the dances ie from second to third, to fourth, to fifth??? :-)))

  7. Hi Clara #4,

Consciously I tried to forget this one dance hostess; but just couldnt. Maybe this is why I repeated the lines 5 times.

If you bring yourself back to the 70s, what would you like to be? Dont be shy. Let your memories go back 35 years.

    Terence Seah

  8. Quote from Eileen: “They will pick us from our homes with their Morris Minor ha ha, we always feel proud/great if any of our boyfriends will come with a car to pick us from our door step and our “kay poh neighbours” will poke their heads out and “wah”………..”

Well said Eileen, I stayed in Kampong in the 70’s, my mother will not let me stepped out of the house unless my boyfriends comes with a car! At times, I have to sneak out of the house via the back door…hahaha……

In those days, the night club are often frequented by the rich Chinese businessmen with big tummies…and the ladies would look like Suzie Wong….hehehe, now Terence is on the look out for people who can fit the role of this event.

    Ah Nee

  9. Hi any sweet vivacious ladies in SHC to take up the role of mamasans and hostesses for enactment. I will enact my role in the nightclubs again as the suave handsome but not so young guy, with flame and fire in my belly. Hahaha!

Those were the days. Great inviting ‘dangerous’ memories.

  10. Patrick#5,
Yes..you’ve hit it right (the dance hostess) ..Terence might be still singing “Wan Bu Liao” to date..
I’ve not been to a cabaret or niteclub during the 70’s guessed i’m young for that, am not even 21st (any age limit for admission?)..although heard abt it. Ive only attended my company D & D at Neptune whereby we have our own company beauty contest as well.

  11. Neptune restaurant? Still dreaming about the tim sum which I have it frequently with my colleagues and customers when my office was at the second floor in the same building. Unfortunately the company (Asien Pacific Bank) which I was working was not more in existence due to the merger in the late ’80.

  12. ClaraC

Recalling Neptune Theatre. Last year closed down for development. Sure Terence can “wan bu liao”. Me too.
Neptune Theatre came on a little later. And always have
oversea artists troupe dancing with the boobs exposed.

And many company dinners were held there. My company will booked the whole place during our DnD nite practically there for quite a number of years because of the international dancers sometimes from Paris or Las Vegas.

    Those were the days….

  13. Forgot leh, Neptune maybe closed three years ago. Old brain lah. Still thinking of the gorgeous big assets of those oversea European dancers in Neptune Theatre. Bouncing up and down. Hahahaa!

  14. Came from a very conservative family, and believe it or not, have only been to a nightclub once some 15 years ago, as a guest with some overseas clients. To me, it was a rather subtle evening with lots of loud singing, but perhaps, was simply oblivious to naughty activities behind the scenes, after performance hours???

Sounds like good fun to me to let our hair down once in a while, and experience some of the things we missed out in our younger days.

  15. To Terence,

What a creative man you are! Proposing a themed monthly meeting is BRILLIANT!

You’ll need plucky ladies to play the parts of nightclub hostesses and also MamaSan as these roles require the actresses to be plastered with thick, thick makeup and donned in tight, tight cheongsams. Not only that, they must act ‘heow’ (flirtatious/coy).

You’ll also need ‘chee koh peks’ (no problem getting the SHC guys to play this role)…hehehehe BUT they cannot do in reality what was done in those nightclubs, i.e. groping and kissing the girls.

Personally, I recalled being to a nightclub during my younger days and I didn’t like the scene.

Please do not propose me for any of the above roles as I’d slap any guy for intentional or unintentional groping…hahaha.

This theme needs the right set-up in terms of venue and ambience.

    New so still observing,
    Ros

  16. Hi StevenN #9,

I am sure you know there is a big difference between have a tim sum lunch setting and a night club setting. We met at the last cycling and you looked young and handsome. Bring your big wallet, be prepared to tip and come to SHC Majestic International nightclub every night. The mamasans will not wait to call you ‘Tai Lor’.

    Terence Seah

  17. Where is SHC Majestic International nightclub? And what does the inside look like. Here’s a vision.

It sits at least 70 people; with tables for 2-4 guests, and still able to squeeze an another
2-4 hotesses. Tables are separated by short partitions, to ensure privacy.

The hall is brightly lit during dinner and progressively shifts to small tungsten light bulbs. Waiters and waitress, and also mamasans swiftly glide from table to table, taking drink orders and your favourite hostess. Maybe, the nightclub can also introduce you your favourite guy. The venue is accessible by bus, car and foot.

The nightclub has a stage, with music hidden behind the backdrop. The main focus are the singers, and they have great voices and able to bring out the mood for dancing and more drinking.

For ladies and men, I hope you don’t feel offended. I am trying to write the script to reflect the 70’s for an event which will happen the moment we identify the venue.

So practise your favourite role. It’s your choice.

    Terence Seah

  18. Terence,
Ah ha ha ha….!! I just read your post and haven’t stopped laughing. Apologies. I wasn’t laughing at you but at the whole idea.

Now I know why you asked if I could act the part of ‘mamasan’. Ha ha ha ha! A ‘bitchy’ one some more!

When I was young, I never had the chance to go to a night club. My dad was so strict. Then when I got married, I wasn’t ‘allowed’ either. Only men could go. ‘Respectable’ women would not even think of stepping into ‘such’ a place, hehe. The few times that I went were with my then husband, the Golden Million Restaurant for business dinners, the Neptune Theatre restaurant to watch the topless dancers and the Kasbah and some place named the Pink Pussycat or other or was that the Tropicana, I forgot.

Believe it or not, it was only after my divorce that I started really going to night clubs and enjoying the nightlife, of course with a male companion, never alone, not even now. I just haven’t got the guts to go alone. So I believe I don’t know anything much about ‘mamasans’ hostesses, ‘groping’ etc.

The night spots I go to don’t have these ‘features’. I go there for the music and to dance. No mamasan, no hostesses and no ‘groping’, hahaha.

Btw, I thought ‘groping’ is a type of molestation punishable by law right?

So, Terence, you got the wrong person for a ‘mamasan’ Wahahahaha….!!!!

  19. Terence
In spite of laughing so much at the idea, I think it may be something interesting.

Perhaps a toned down version would be more acceptable. After all, we are all not sweet young things and it would be erroneous to think that we can ‘act’ that way any more.

It might be fun to have a ‘themed’ monthly meeting. Everyone draws ‘straws’ at the meeting to see what part each has to play for the next meeting and they then come suitably attired.

Or it could be a ‘free for all’ and everyone comes dressed according to what they want to portray, of course, keeping to the theme.

So, Terence, you can come as a ‘towkay’ but must have a cushion for a prosperous tummy ok?

Btw, how did the mamasans dress in those days? Qi pao or what?

  20. Hmm ……. The Neptune Theater that have lunch and night club setting

    Mary # 18

In the 70s, tim sum at Tropicana or the Peking Restaurant was my favorite, never patronize the Tropicana nightclub, think the mentality those days was too rowdy for ‘Respectable’ women. About Mamasan, I am not sure about those from Golden Million or the other nightclubs, but I once deal with a Mamasan from Kabuki, she is a graduate with excellent human skills. So now u know why you are asked to act the part of mamasan ha ha ha……

    Patrick lee #13

Yeap……..I remember the show at the Neptune Theatre, the international dancer was fantastic, yes gorgeous figure dancing to the theme of famous cars, precise and skillful….each beauty by the name of Royce, Mercedes the Chevrolets’………..

Indeed……Those were the days my friend, We’d thought they’d never end, we’d sing and dance Forever and a day……song by.Mary Hopkins

I wish I could say, “Those were the days….”

I missed out on a lot in my earlier years but am now making up for lost time, hee hee.
I did a little bowling in my thirties, learnt to swim and cycle in my forties and dance in my fifties. I wonder what next?
If I weren’t so afraid of heights, perhaps sky diving? Hahaha.

Oh yes, I only started dating in my fifties!!! Hahaha.

  22. Hi Terence,

If I looked young and handsome then there are few people who are ugly. hahhaha.

I rarely have the chance to go to cabaret or nightclub as back then, I was stingly to spend my own money on such entertainment. It’s too costly.

My employers have strict rules for us not to accept such free entertainments from customers – afraid we cannot overcome ??? and become too relaxed with them.

  23. I chope for the role of waitress! Ya lah, old waitress is still waitress what….:(

P.S. : This old waitress will don an apron with BIG pocket
    for tips. Hehehehe

    Ros aka Lor Si Leng

  24. Aiyoh Ros, please do not be modest lah! You can qualify to be the most sophisticated mamasan with your credentials.
Waitresses do not receive tips much. Only mamasans and hostesses. The ‘red label'(Ang Pai) ones can earn $5000 to $10000 per month. MONA the once famous mamasan earned $15000 to $20000 per month. Only one mistake she made and was shot. The rest was history. She was paralysed for life on a wheelchair.

Criteria for Mamasan: Not all people can be mamasans.
Good PR. Well poised, present personality, friendly and can capture fat pocket clients. take good care of her hostesses.
Age limit should not bemore than 53years for the Majestic International Nightclub of SHC.

Please send in your resume to founder Terence Seah for interview. I may help Terence to pick the best with impartiality.

Application opens now. Unsuccessful candidates will not be informed but can apply for hostesses position. Thank you.

    LeePat Don Juan.

  25. Indemnity Clause: Majestic International Nightclub SHC will
not be held responsible for any injuries, outrage of modesty suffered by Mamasans and Hostesses employed by us.

Please buy your own insurance. (Mona’s case was one in a million mamasan. So not to worry).

  26. Dear Patrick,

In case you did not read my post #15, kiasi me informed Terence I do not want to take on the roles of MamaSan or hostesses.

Your last post with the Indemnity Clause will put off the ladies from volunteering, if I am not wrong. hehehe

  27. Hi PatrickL,

SHC Majestic International nightclub has not given you a position. So please do not set rules for the nightclub. Also do not frighten away our potential customers and job candidates.

    Terence Seah

  28. Rosalind Lee
You’ve hit the nail on the head. Some people just don’t know when to ‘can’ it.
As if he’s so young himself. If he had his way, he’d write off anyone older than 53 years of age.

  29. Adminstrator, if my post at #24 caused pinholed views
and I only write in jest and make-believed scenario of the
nightclub scenes. In true nightclubs, mamasans are much much younger and have class of their own.

If it put stress to the general public , please delete it off. I wrote it in go faith and for the joy of fun.

Life should not be that serious, right!!

    LeePatrick Song Juan

  30. Patrick, it is true we should not take life so seriously. But as a newbie, you did pick on me in your post #24. Why insinuate that I qualify as Mamasan? I can take jokes but you’re joking at my expense.

Never mind, just don’t keep on teasing me. I have 50% Peranakan blood so I might erupt and give you a good scolding. Not nice to have that happen so we talk general things can?

    Thanks
    Ros

  31. Ros, you misinterpreted me. You wanted to be a waitress at #23 all in jest. So, I in good faith and with your credential, just joke that you are more qualified to be others than a waitress.

If you feel offended, I unreservedly apologise to you. And I realise the world of make-belief had to be that authentic.

The angle of view is too obtuse for a fun joke.

    LeePat

  32. Mood was low for the larger part of the day but somewhat cheered up in early evening so log on now to read what’s happening?

A very interesting thread which will – and indeed it has – beciome the fodder for some unbridled imaigination.

Well, Patrick-L, lest you hv many friends but no one tells you the truth, the Perananakans hv royal blood. The forefather was a sultan and their first mothers hailed from the Chinese imperial palace. And if these princess dared sail with Admiral Cheng Ho across the 7 seas braving pirates went crazy, they certainly cd bash you to pulp; likewise, their descedents xan knead you like clay so you better pray pray but dont ever play play.

The poster boys up on top hv been replaced by gals. I asked my daughter to guess their ages and who is the prettiest. Her answer knocked me off my chair………..

  33. Tim, your mood swing save my day. Iam having my man o-pause now.I thought your hands are tight behind your back. What takes you so long to post.

I am now pray pray. Well, glad your daughter make your day.

    Be happy don’t worry
    People can be diminuitive
    Outlook and thought very sorry
    Life journey becomes unhappy
    All because of self-inflicted ideology
    The shadowness of a mind
Defeats the existence of one’s life
Openness we find, the treasure of life.

    LeePat SJ

  34. Hi PatSJ,
U can always said wat u had commented was supp 2b meant as a joke but I supp dat u always presumed dat every1 here must noe how 2 appreciate your jokes rite.. 2 bad lor, not every1 had d same wavelength as u r. So next tx, b more mindful abt others’ feeling b4 u pen down your comts as others may considered dat as nonsense/insults.. ok..

Dear LohSiLeng – agreed fully wat u hv pointed out. Dolly

  35. Hi Terence,

You are looking for a nightclub owner – obviously a man because the next role is his wife. HELLO?? I would love to be the owner and so, care to be my HUSBAND? Kekekekkeeee.

I know this is based on YOUR good old days, but……but…..I wasn’t born yet so………..kakakakaaa

Anyways, I do understand the logistics as I am soooo far away. Let me know.

  36. Patrick Lee,

Cut your shit! Totally agree with Rosalind and Dolly. Here I am, excited at the thought of being a nightclub owner and there you are, barking and barking and getting on our nerves!!

Exactly what Dolly said. Be mindful and stop your nonsense. Gosh!!

As Terence mentioned, do not frighten off members wanting to take up the various roles.

  37. Hi Geraldine #42,

Whenever I watched the TV nightclub drama, the owner seems to be always a man, and accompanied by a pretty woman, dolled with pearl necklaces, shining satins, expensive bags, etc. Ok, you fit the bill, and so in our case, we can have you as the owner (if u are in Singapore), and for the “husband”, I am too skinny and don’t fit the image. Got to be someone who looks like a bigshot. Can I find one for you? Or take your time, you can choose one.

    Terence Seah

  38. #36 Patrick,

“So, I in good faith and with your credential, just joke that you are more qualified to be others than a waitress…” quote

Patrick, except for the walk and the monthly meeting at Gillman Heights, both events whereby we might have exchanged a few words, I have AS YET to know you well enough to feel comfortable with your ‘jokes’. Please don’t get me wrong. I can be as ‘siao’ as anyone but I don’t like being the butt of anyone’s jokes. Who does, I wonder?

I treasure good friends like Maggie Teo and SHE can tease me endlessly as we’ve known each other since 1985. In SHC I hope to have more friends of my age who are NON-SEXIST as I believe in our silver hair years, friends are important.

    Patrick, I accept your apology.

    Cheers!
    Ros

  39. Hi Patrick Lee at # 43 / others,

This is Terence’s dream of a life time to set up a CABARET show time for members and as Terence had mentioned, do not frighten off members wanting to take up the various roles.

Your “unintentional” barking joke has frightened off 1 potential “actress” and other ladies of good reputation when you mention abt GROPING in the dark.

” Chan Gei Wui Pok Moong ” Ha ! ha! :)

  40. Steven Chan, get your rhetorics right OK ! When did I mention “GROPING” in the dark. You go throu the post and pinpoint the right person who wrote it OK!

  41. IT is sad that the make-belief world of SHC nightclub
scenes bring forth so much ‘mindfulness’ of dissent.
And it is not launch yet. What a big joke!

‘Hell hath no fury like a woman’s scorn’. I rest my case.

    Thank you
    LeePatrick song Juan

  42. Hm, looks like there’s another character on SHC sho’s getting on people’s nerves and rubbing people up the wrong way with his smart a–ed remarks.

Please don’t spoil the fun and camaraderie that many have here with each other.

Just remember that SHC is a platform for making friends and not for poking fun at people and making ridiculous, irrelevant remarks to cause chaos to a post.

I haven’t mentioned any name but if the shoe fits, wear it.

  43. Terence

It’s good to dream. I do too, haha.

May I suggest that this theme be used for the next SHC D and D? Each person can play a role and the venue could be dressed up to resemble the night club of your dreams.

Then, I MAY come dressed as a mamasan, hahaha.

  44. I think nightclubs and cabarets are a source of sadness, violence, hate, jealously, alcoholism, lust and many unpleasant memories. Fights are common in nightclubs. Our SHC Majestic International nightclub is a make believe dream. I hope members will enjoy it.

I love seeing SHCians coming together and getting to meet new and more friends. To make this objective work, I like to encourage theme events. This is just one way of doing so.

For now, the scriptwriter would like to focus on really good singing voice and money making mamasans. And, also a venue.

    Plse help to dream.

    Terence Seah

  45. Hi Mary #51,

Guess you have never been a mamasan before. So, let me give you some tips. As mamasan, you will have to look after 5 PR hostesses. You have to practise how to be heow. You have to eagle-eyed to spot the big wallets. I know you are a dancer, so that helps on the dance floor. So, you really want a role as mamasan? Meantime, please be on the lookout for for businessmen to patronise the soon-to-be opened SHC Majestic International nightclub.

    Terence Seah

  46. #49 Patrick,

It’s quite obvious that you don’t like being chided when I expressed I didn’t like your ‘jest’,’joke’…. I’m sorry you feel that way. In this world, I don’t live to please everyone and I feel I have the right to speak out if I’m offended.

Your snide remark ‘Hell hath no fury….’ applies to a man-woman relationship whereby the woman is being dumped by the guy and she retaliated with revenge.

Please hor, you and I DO NOT have a relationship.

Some people just doesn’t know where to draw the line…sigh

  47. Hi JanetC #41,

Glad to see you raise your hand to be one of our top singers. Get ready 3-4 songs from the 70s. Search the songs in youtube.com. The nightclub is also looking for a stage manager, whose job is to ensure the big bellied businessmen come back every week to listen to you.

In our nightclub, guests can give singers a flower if they like the singing.

    Terence Seah

  48. Not one who flows with the tide, I aint here to weigh in and give you hell of a day. But Patrick-L, it’s obvious that yr brand of joke has found few takers….even yr Hardy Steven-C has barbed his Laurel.

You’re actually a nice fella and behaves not a day younger than yr age, meaning you let yr countable teeth do most of the talking, which sometimes bites, unwittingly. I cant be any different, probably worse, in 11 years’ time……..just wished I wont live that long.

Back to what this thread is.

In those neon-lit pulsating nites turned into days, the dark trade was rampant. Thus, to really re-live the pom pomp cabaret yesteryears, there must be someone plying the opium and discreetly feeding the appetite of those chasing dragons.

Yes, i will supply the grass, cocaine, opium, marijuana, contraceptive pills, vaseline and everything you need to happy happy, including poppy, puppy and lao sai tea. Not for free tho……..

  49. Terence,

If the audience or the rich “towkay”, after enjoying the sad sentimental songs; and want to reward his/her favourite singers with a bouquet of flowers, I can handle those flowers….hehehee….plastic wan or fresh flowers?

    Ah Nee

  50. Hi Terence,

I agree with Lor Si Leng, this is a brilliant idea having to relive the past especially in socialising at nightclubs and cabaret.

My few exposures with nightclubs was at the old Leisuredrome in Kallang and the Megacity (can’t remember the correct name) in Jakarta where I was entertained by my business contacts. At Megacity we were brought to a room where a lot of pretty girls sat behind a glass panel and we get choose a girl to drink with us. Those were the days!

My late old man have worked in the nightclub at the old Lido called Rosie Dor if I remembered corectly. He also worked at the Mayfair and Majestic Hotel where I get to tag along for free meals. The last was the Federal Hotel in KL. I literally grew up in those environment.

As for the role I liked to play, perhaps as Jaswant Singh I can be station at the entrance screening those guests who are coming, how about dat?
    Dan

  51. “If the……..rich “towkay”, after enjoying the sad sentimental songs, want to reward his/her favourite singers with….flowers, I can handle those flowers….”

To reward after taking in sad songs? These towkays must be mad and will give away their money if you kick their teeth but if you sayang them, they will rpobably chop you into 7 pieces.

Btw, the flowers will come as wreaths and imagine you take these flowers back, hehe, for what huh?

Play with you later, having honey for lunch liao…………

  52. Terence,

If I had been a mamasan before, would I be here at SHC, mingling with ordinary people like myself and tolerating grumpy, penniless, old men? Hahaha.

I would be RICH like that Mona woman and pandering to wealthy, fat men with equally fat wallets!

Regarding ‘heow’. No problemo BUT sorry leh, I reserve that for my special guy, hahaha. I don’t know how to ‘heow’ with many men and in public at that.

You say to look out for ‘rich business men’ to patronise the fantasy club. I know some but they are not members of SHClub leh. They are members of rich men’s clubs, so how to get them to come huh? Hahaha.

No, no, no. I don’t want to be a mamasan. Besides, like I said, I don’t know how to be one. I don’t mind dressing to look like one, just for the fun of it. Hee.

I don’t mind playing the role of the rich tai tai who goes armed with a rolling pin, to look for her sliming, rich ,businessman husband at the night club. I can clobber him good and proper, hahaha. Lucky you are not playing the roll of the rich towkay!

May be I could join Ah Nee and help distribute flowers? ;-)

  53. Hi Terence,

This sounds like good fun. I would like to be part of the script. Just find a role that will fit me… hmm.. but an easier way out would be just gather all those interested, then we’ll cast a vote, as to who will do which role???

Most important would be the venue, date/time. And of course rehearsals… and i’m sure the rehearsals will be fun too.

    Count me in,

    CHeers, Lydia.

  54. Dan, Tim,

I am on the way to Taipei now, and shall go to a nightclub tonight to get some refreshing ideas.

And for fellow SHCians, look at a possible role for yourself. Don’t worry, you can change your role later on, if you are not comfortable wih you or the event date clashes with your other appointments.

    Terence Seah

  55. Hi Terence #53,

Your great idea of ‘recreating’ a cabaret scene in the 70s reminded me so much of places like Flamingo (Great world), Silver Star (Orchard), Maxim, Al Amigo (New world) and even ‘Hai Yan’ at then Wisma Indonesia.

Apart from being a venue for an evening of sizzling entertainment, a cabaret is also a source for businessmen to book a hostess out for their social accompaniment (to dinner with clients or whatever). The chosen hostess is allowed to leave the club but this can only happen with the consent of the mamasan and if the price (per hour) is right.

So while the throbbing music, dancing & drinking are going on, brisk deals are cut fast and furious. And, as the night wears on, the well endowed and pretty ones disappeared from the dance floor very quickly.

For the mamasan, her attributes not only include the ability to look after the ‘5 hostess’ well but also be good in the art of negotiation, a skill useful at the table to bring in the big bucks for her girls and ‘extra tipping’ for herself too.

In short, a Mamasan is a Businesswoman in her own right.

Believe me, most high powered businessmen or bosses are ‘poor negotiator’ when it comes to negotiating with mamasan. They will always give in to the mamasan – why ? because no businessmen worth his salt would want to be seen as ‘kuching kurup’ and will try to act ‘tai hong, tai hong’ (generous). Thats the price for egoism.

Now, for our role play, I think a well scripted dialogue loaded with hilarious wisecracks in English and patois (hokkien) between the mamasan, the businessman and the hostess will make a good laughable sitcom – running for at least 30 mins.

    just a suggestion. Pat Chan

  56. Having been persuaded by a prominent mamasan (someone of the stature of Mona), I wouldn’t mind being the towkay owner, as long as I have all the mamasans at my beck and call.

  57. Hi Ah Nee,

Yes, you are just great for the role of a sweet flower girl. The guys and/or the ladies will buy the flowers from you. They can then give the flowers to their favourite singer. Remember to exchange the flowers back from the singers for a dollar, if the flower is priced at $2.

    Hi JeffreyL #64,
You have the personality of a nightclub owner. So, I have you in the script as SHC Majestic International nightclub co-owner. I think you have to be surrounded and protected by pai kiahs. I think you may need to recruit one or two paikaihs. Unless she is not in Singapore, GeraldineT is the other co-owner. Get to know one another. And, and keep thinking about what you want to do as a nightclub co-owner.

    Terence Seah

  58. Hi Terence,

YAY…..I am the clubowner! A dream comes true. Very nice, indeed.

Yes, do find a ‘husband’ for me. Want to see your ‘matching’ skills. Kekekkeee. He has to be attentive though. Now, I’m doubly excited……

  59. Hi DanH, PatC,
Wow, looks like both of you have a lot of experiences in the nightclub underworld. We will take note of your ideas, and put them into the script.

    Ladies,
All ideas from SHCians welcome. Meantime, look into your closet for that cheongsam. I dont remember mini-skirts being the hip during the 70s.

    Terence Seah

  60. Dear Sir Terence,

Half hour sitcom, i love to try any role that you assign to me.But can i request to put on my apparel; vest in durian(not ang moh durian) skin from shoulder to my toes.Whereas from neck upward rambutan skin mask. In case i might suffer culture shock at least i can give them some electric shock.

    Now i submit my resume.
Only 1.5M in height, the needle touch 100 pound .No experience but willing to learn.

    Rgds

    Rose White

  61. Hi Terence,

Now that I am the nightclub owner with Jeffrey Lim as the co-owner, do we role play as husband and wife or simply business partners?

There’s a difference between these two as our role playing will be very different in terms of having more ‘intimacy’ and rapport with a husband, whereas business partner are just that; does not build up the right chemistry for this setting.

Like to hear from both Terence and Jeffrey.

  62. Terence

Hm, I like Jennifer Lim’s question about training. If I could have someone teach me how to ‘handle’ the hostesses and DOMs and ‘heow’ with them, I don’t mind the role of mamasan. ;-)

Otherwise, I could be a ‘businesswoman’ guest or the partner of a male guest?

Incidentally, why ‘LADY businesswomen’? In this day’s contact, there COULD possibly be ‘MALE businesswomen’? Hahaha.

I could also be the Club Manageress. Less ‘heowing’ more ‘bossing around’ which I’m quite capable of, being a teacher, hahaha.

Btw, will Dan Hwang have to wear a turban?
DAN aka JASWANT SINGH HWANG, do you have a turban?

One more question. What role will you be playing?

  63. Mary,

There is at the moment just one Singh, of course a turban is required. What a singh without a turban unless a modern singh then I will wear a ‘bandera’ or headband to cover my baldiness!

My job is to jaga aka a bouncer but may not qualify as bouncer have to be big, strong and friendly!

    Dan

  64. “…….i love to try any role…..i submit my resume. Only 1.5M in height, the needle touch 100 pound .No experience but willing to learn”.

Rose White, with so much of drugs to sell, I am looking for a pusher and the petite you fit in nicely. Since you’re willing to learn, I shall put you thru easy training which you can start on yr own and immediately. It goes like this.

Each time you see a rubbish bin/cart, push it as far as you can until the road sweeper cannot find it. During rush hour wheen you board a mrt, push as many exiting passengers back into the train as you can………and whenever you see anything that can be moved, push. last but not least, push yr hubby off the bed at least 5 times every nite and dont bother with his protests or whatever assumptions he makes of yr mental health.

I shall teach you where to aim yr needle at as it is a big waste to touch the needle on a pound which gives you neither sensation or pleasure. That needle will also come handy with the medicine you sell for me.

  65. Here’s a twist to the plot – one of the mamasan is the co-owner’s wife. Between the owner and co-owner, there is a secret tete-a-tete and as all three are in the same place at the same time every night, the owner and the co-owner have a hard time keeping their secret…… let the plot play on. What does the script writer think?

  66. Hi Terence,

Think you must be enjoyed very much at Taipei nightclub again last night. Even thou I have never been to any nightclub before, but I think this going to be very fun and interesting to play a role. How about a singer for me? He he **

    Cheers!
    Catherine Koh

  67. Just woke up.

In case, I have miscommunicated to memmbers, please note this event is NOT a play. The entire script will be set in a look-alike nightclub and cabaret eg a restaurant with partitions for privacy, a stage with singers, etc.

Hi owner and co-owner, how you interact is up to you. Both of you decide. Go along as the plot thickens. Who knows. Your secrets remain your secrets.

Remember, you are owner and co-owner; and you just enjoy yourself. Be discreet. Remember, the club manager has the ultimate say of what happens in the nightclub during operation hours. Of course, you may fire him/her when the contract expires.

    Terence Seah

  68. “..a twist to ….the mamasan…the co-owner’s wife. Between the owner and co-owner, there is a secret tete-a-tete…as all three are in the same place at the same time every night…..let the plot play on. What does the script writer think?”

I’ll try to think what the sriptwriter thinks.

It starts with the mamasan fluttering and twisting like a butterfly to entertain. When the owner isnt looking, the co-owner twists some parts of her. Finding that she doesnt quite fit him, the owner twists them back. These go on for many nites until mamasan is so contorted that she can never twist. kiss or piss again. So she is given the ultimate heroic role which the gals who hv volunteered all missed out.

Our gals ask to be the businesswoman, the GRO, the waitress, mamasan, the tai tai, the owner forgetting this role of the heroine. Yes, with patrons drinking heavily and eating from the mouths of yellow-teeth betul nut chewing cabaret gals, there’ll be a lot of throw-ups so the unsung heroine is she who washes the toilet.

This is what the twisted, ravaged, warped and contorted mamasan will end up as.

  69. Hi MaryC, JenniferL, RoseW, Xiang Xiang,

As a guide, the mamasan trains the PR hostesses under her group. Mamasan may show favouritism to her favourite girl, but the scriptwriter leaves this to the Mamasan. Try getting tips from Patrick Chan, DanH. All SHCians, feel free to suggest, but we leave the final style to the mamasan. By, the way, there will be no organised practice. Only the real event.

Ah Huat, thanks for your role as bouncer. Dont forget to be on the look out for the big wallets. No pistol, argh?

    Terence Seah

  70. I am back in Singapore next Wednesday to Fri. If you know of a small restaurant, with a stage, preferably with a sound system, low partitions between tables, seating 60-70 people, old shanghai or chinese setting, please let me know. I would like to view it, so that we can set the date and venue for SHC Majestic International nightclub. Very likely, we will start with some lights during dinner and maybe no light or little light after dinner.

If our incumbent club manager Dolly is agreeable, I am looking at the possibility of a January event.

    Terence Seah

  71. Hi Terence,

With a club like The SHC Majestic International Nightclub coming our way, I can’t resist the joy of patronizing it especially on its grand opening night.

I shall order my favorite drink – XO or Gordon Blu (as was popular in the 70s) and of course sending the Managememt & staff my congratulatory bouquet (of flowers).

As the ‘plot thickens’ this looks very much like the real thing rather than a play play thing.

So I like the idea of being a businessman guest and escorting a lady in. Can ?

    Pat Chan

  72. Terence,

January sounds good. It appears that SHC Majestic International Nightclub is foreign owned, a Thai-Hong Kong joint-venture. So let us know early so that the owner and co-owner can arrange their travel plans to be in town for the grand opening.

  73. Hi Terence,

(I am writing on behalf of Janet Chan.)

In response to your request @ #55, Janet Chan has chosen the following 4 songs for her roleplay of a singer in the 70s. They are: (1) ???, (2) ???, (3) ?????????? and (4) ?????.

  74. halo terence ,

i c har , so iam oredli employed by shc majestic int n.club.. ok i will be de bouncer ,as such can i ask our ben foo aso 2 be in as bouncer lah !!!

aa sai bo ? terence & bro ben foo ai on mai ???

  75. Hi Janet Chan,

    ….???, (2) ???, (3) ?????????? and (4) ?????.????

Your Chinese songs “ignited” my memory when we stepped into a Night Club in KL many yrs ago when were were teenagers in
Sec 4 and the entry rules were not strict as now. Also the 4 of us were quite tall and looks quite mature fooling the ushers.

I can remember the female lead singer singing loudly this song and is stil ringing in my brain
Char Char Mambo! …More More Char Char Char..Char …
    Char Char Mambo!

  76. “Janet Chan has chosen the following 4 songs for her roleplay of a singer in the 70s. They are: (1) å¤?来é¦?, (2) å¤?ä¸?æµ·, (3) æ??ç??å¿?é??只æ??你没æ??ä»? and (4) ä½?æ?¥å?å?æ¥.”

So why dont you ???? (3)???????? These tear jerkers are very suited to the expressive you and yr voice. Guarantee all the towkays will swarm round you for more.

  77. Oy Terence,

    Please read #71 again hor?

I didn’t say I wanted to be a mamasan. You must be half asleep still.

So please take out my name.

Put me down as either a ‘businesswoman guest’ or ‘the partner of a male guest please.

  78. Hi Sam #87,

So, you have recommended Ben Foo. Yes, he looks mascular and handsome too. I shall have his name down for this role. Ben, are you ok to have Ah Huat as partner bouncer?

    Terence Seah

  79. Hi MaryC #89,

Noted, I shall take your name out as mamasan. If you change your mind, let me know.

Like in many nightclubs, lady guests are not allowed entry. This is an anti-competition rule. The club is concerned that you may be competiting with the PR hostess.
    Keep your imaginations running.

    Terence Seah

  80. I wrote something more at #88. It now stands limp………do remove it in its entirety then. Apparently, a new era has dawnd in SHC, an ara I find myself out of depth so less of me will be seen inhere till my era returns, if it ever will.

  81. Terence#91

Why would I be ‘competing’ with the PR hostesses who would all probably be much younger than me anyway? Besides,

    Your rule says:

“Ladies not allowed entry, unless escorted by male guest.
Lady businesswomen can be allowed entry by Club manager only.”

So I can play the part of a lady businesswoman or be escorted in by a male guest right?

  82. Dear Sir Terence,

Thanks for the offer that u assign to me.After fully understood the term, i realised that i did not fit the picture.

See lah have not enter the real scenerio already tipsy.

Refering to#1, i am language and cultural barrier. Rather than give people sensation and pleasure i might give them misery and torment.

    Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Since TimL now metamorphoses into kuai and suai guy, i have no qualm to be under his supervision sell drugs. At least he can protect me when i got into trouble.

    Ok lah!! that’s it.

If you need a venue for this event… try Yen Palace at Hong Lim (Chinatown). Your job will be to persuade the restaurant to allow you to host the event there. Have a looksee, the place is perfect for your Cabaret Night!

  84. Hi Terence,

This is an application for the role of a ‘Mamasan’, since I already ‘recruited 2 tall & charming hostesses’ in my group, pending one more member, who’s currently overseas.

Nearer the date, I shall reveal the names of these sexy hostesses but meantime, its best to keep mum to generate curiosity, and hopefully more members will join & swing in more fun & laughter.

    Cheers!

  85. Hey Tim @# 93,

Don’t go MIA leh. Whose’s going to tell more titujing stories and ancient Chinese history if you go MIA?

I’ve got a question to ask:I heard that the Goddess Guanyin was originally a man. What’s the story, do you know?

    Cheers,

  86. Jass @ #99, no I am not MIA, just wont be read as often as I hv some personal agony to resolve but if you or folks hv any qn you think I can answer/help, do pls either post it in this forum – as I do come in to read – or write to my email.

Thank you Steven-C. In yr silkroad thread. I think you have given Jass the answers, clear & precise. It’s good to be like the Goddess, kind and merciful.

  87. Hi CatherineK,
Excellent choice of songs for the night. We shall have the nightclub manager get in touch with you closer the event.

    Hi Hamidah,
I have seen some of your dresses and must say they are very suitable for a cabaret and nightclub nightout. And, if you are confident to bring out loving memories of the 70s with your chinese songs, please let us know.

On the rules of this nightclub event, we try to follow closely “those were the days”. Non-participants can take the backstage seats and tables. Let’s see what the venue looks like. Kenneth Tan has recommended a place, and we are meeting tomorrow to get a feel of it.

  88. *Knock knock* all SHC members,

Can more people sign up to be wait staff? Poor me alone, how to handle so many drinks orders ah? Think I have to borrow hawker centre the cleaners’ food cart as it has many layers to place drinks. Looks kind of ugly though…:p

  89. Hi Terence

I would love to sing in the Cabaret and Night Club.

Have been looking for the songs to sing and I have selected four. Maybe the EO can choose which songs I should sing out of the four. And they are
    1. Jing Yue Yu Mong Mong (off-beat cha cha)
    2. Qing Ren De Yan Lei (slow)
    3. Bu Liao Qing (slow)
    4. Cha Cham Bo (if I can find the lyrics)

Hope the han yu pin yin is correct.

I may get back-up dancers if they are willing.

Will get some singing lessons to make sure I sound more Chinese and not have the ang moh “twang”.

    Hope this is acceptable.

    Thanks

    Caroline Gee

  90. Hey Caroline,

Actually, I was gyrating in my boxers, yes, boxers, a top and house slippers to Cha Cham Bo, singing whilst I was at it. Very sexy, huh? Kekekekkee.

What will you be wearing? Has to be sexy, of course…..

  91. Wow Geraldine

gyrating in boxers – now you have become yummilicious heee! no I mean kekekekeke!

Dont know what to wear yet but must be plunging back or front or both with lots of sequins lah!

  92. Plunge away, Caroline! Getting weak in the knees and heart pounding reading this………….I bet YOU will be babeyummilicious! Slurp.

  93. Today, Kenneth Tan and myself had lunch at the Yan Palace, along South Bridge Road. An old fashion Chinese restaurant which can be transformed into a 1970 nightclub. Imagine the lights are dimmed, and the guests can barely see one another. The singers singing on the stage, and guests and hostesses waltzing on the dancing floor.

Sad, the tables have no partitions between them, so no privacy. No dance floor, only carpet. A good stage, seems to cater to Karaoke well. Sits 300 people. Food feels good. Price feels good too. Mood, I think, can be made to feel good.

We will explore this venue further. Anybody got any other venues to suggest.

    Terence Seah

  94. Hi Terence,

Have you been to the Mambo Dance Hall at Beach Road. Seems a good place with ideal setting. It situated in a very old building knowm as Woh Hup Complex.

I can bring you to have a look whenever you are available.

  95. Hi Geraldine Ting / Robin ,

Just woke up and saw a BRIGHT VISION of our SHC cabaret nightclub scene. The floor was flooded with multi coloured spot lights.

Geraldine T /others dressed up like Francis Yip was in her long and slender split cut cheongsam embosssed with thousands of gleaming sequins in the form of a dragon and a phoenix.

Geraldine T’s slender “snowy white” neck was adorned with a sparkling diamond studded necklace with a furry sash slung over her neck and her two white tender hands .

She was singing to the “patrons” her favourite Cantonese song Lor Horn Pang , Loh Hon Lau , Marn Marn Choong Choong Oor Mei Pat Yow…..

Next come Robin our v.proffessional and talented
“Tom Jones” . This time round he has to switch his role from TJ to Cheong Siuew Chow.

Dressed like the macho and once as the pai kuat sheen Cheong Siuew Chow in his role as the”One Arm Swordsman”.He wore a headband on his long “turban” with ancient Kung Fu clothes singing his favourite Cantonese song Shee Kim Yan Seow Loke.(translated as Book Sword??? apa apa

Ooor…Ooor… Ooor…Ooor Thong Lee Fart How Chow Keen …. Ooor….Ooor……

My 2 Cantonese “teachers” Geraldine and Ivy Low , pls. correct my “atrocious” Cantonese if I am wrong so that it makes sense to members.

Guys n Gals , as Terence Seah said make our imaginations go WILD !!!!!!!

I hope this VISION of mine turns into REALITY. : )

  96. Hi Robin,

If ever Terence S will to approve pls.do NOT forget along to bring along the “sword” ( can borrow from the Community Centre Club )otherwise this song will NOT go complete without some display of sword play.

  97. Good morning, Steven (with a bright vision),

What a vision! Must not disappoint. Will do my best to look the part and have a good time. Are you by any chance taking up a role? Would not be complete if you are not there to see this vision comes to fruition and of course, to enjoy yourself.

To your atrocious Cantonese. What on earth are ‘Lor Horn Pang , Loh Hon Lau , Marn Marn Choong Choong Oor Mei Pat Yow…..’? Kekekekee. I tried and tried to read it your way but this time just could not decipher at all. Ivy, help!

Also, ‘pai kuat SIN CHENG SIU Chow in his role as the”One Arm Swordsman”… ‘singing his favourite Cantonese song Shee Kim Yan SAU Loke. Phew, this part I am able to understand.

Then comes the icing – ‘Ooor…Ooor… Ooor…Ooor Thong Lee Fart How Chow Keen …. Ooor….Ooor……’ WHA?? I think I know which song YOU are trying to sing. I tried, too and keep giggling at Thong Lee Fart How Chow Keen. The Ooor, ooor part is easy but the rest……..as I am not sure of the lyric, so can’t correct. Ivy?

  98. Hi Terence #105

Tks for yr compliments on my dresses…I like to wear the blink2 & sequined type. Appreciate yr kind thoughts in offering me to be Niteclub singer, I accept yr offer & will do my best to sing chinese songs this round cos otherwise Niteclub owner Geraldine Ting & Jefrey won’t pay my salary at the end of the day hee..hee.

I intend to sing 2 songs:-
    (1) Zhu Ni Shun Fong (lively tempo)
    (2) Ke Ai De Mei Gui Hua

I hope I chose the right 1970’s songs & hopefully this event will materialised.

    Rgds
    Hamidah

  99. Hi Geraldine T,

….Are you by any chance taking up a role? Would not be complete if you are not there to see this vision comes to fruition and of course, to enjoy yourself.

Sure must come and support this “auspicious” event and to others and you in your split cut cheongsam with your elegant vase-shaped body “lau sun lau sial” on stage.

Out comes the the hum sup lors and gals gazing fixedly with admiration at you.

…What on earth are ‘Lor Horn Pang , Loh Hon Lau , Marn Marn Choong Choong Oor Mei Pat Yow…..’?

Aiyah! It is the lyrics from the start of Shanghai Tang TVB HK drama( Shanghai Beach )a song made famous by Francis Yip even the Malays like Hamidah or Norlinda or my ex-students love it as it is v.catchy.

pai kuat sheen ( skinny ) CHENG Swea Chow in his role as the”One Arm Swordsman”. Sorry mix up it shd be
(Cheng Swea Chow )in his Loke Siew Foong singing and sword fighting role as a hero.

I think I had enlightened you this time ???

As for the role, I think be a Guest (No role, just sitting, get drunk and admiring the singers)and to have a good time enjoying and relaxing myself.

  100. Quote 121#
“I think be a Guest (No role, just sitting, get drunk and admiring the singers)and to have a good time enjoying and relaxing myself.”

    Steven,
this role is not for you, your role should be a policeman, I am sure there’s police going in quite often to check on drug pushers right..

Since you are so “TALL”, you can come in Kaki shorts lah (I mean very short ones),holding a baton in one hand and a pistol tuck at the belt, complete with police hat..

If you want alterations to make shorts,(really short) I can volunteer to sew for you..

    hehehehe

  101. “Lor Horn Pang, Loh Hon Lau , Marn Marn Choong Choong Oor Mei Pat Yow…..Aiyah! It is the lyrics from the start of Shanghai Tang (Shanghai Beach )a song made famous by Francis Yip even….Hamidah or Norlinda…….love it as it is v.catchy”.

Mood is now fantastic after having Honey for lunch so must see what Steven-C wants us to know.

“Lor” is either associated with Lor 14 Geylang or the Cantonese favourite fruit lor hon gor (soothes the throat & cures cough) or 18 lor hon (18 bronze men) of the shaolin temple.

Lor hon pang? Some kind of pang (biscuit) made with the lor hon gor? And your marn marn choong choong sounds like a stuttering train grinding to a stop.

Whatever you “Oor”, it has to come from the sor ma yow but “Oor Mei Pat Yow”, what’s that ? Maybe you want us to know that you have an “orr pei lor yow”?

Well, the theme song composed/written by Koo Ka Fai and Wong Jim sung by Frances Yip in The Bund starts smthg like this “Long bng, long lou, marn lei dou dou kong sui weng birk yau……”

Both Hamidah and Nor might not find yr lyrics for the choo choo train catchy but will catch and throw you into the yellow river to feed the blue whales for trying to convert it into apparently a terrorist song.

  102. Hello Steven

Alamak! why you asked Geraldine Ting whether taking up a role or not? She’s the Niteclub Owner, u know.. don play play ah.

Steven you so “panjang” hor, I suggest you be the BOUNCER lah.

Yes Shanghai Tang is very famous cantonese song, I like it very much that I also learn to sing it & till todate never feel “jelak” (bored) listening to this song.

  103. Hi Tim Liu,

It is good to know you are in a good mood today and that you are responding with your usual brand of HUMOUROUS jokes that set us laughing aloud esp. your ….“orr pei lor yow”?

However,if you are in a bad mood, pls. don’t vent your “frustration” or anger in this forum. Vent it at the GYM!!! with all your “explosive” energy at the equipment and you will feel much better after that. Ha! ha! :)

I think you fit the role as a BOUNCER perfectly because of your “pie kia ” look.

  104. Hi Steven #115,

Have you gone mad (fatt teen) this morning with all the old hk tv drama and half-cooked Cantonese? Don’t know what you were trying to ‘Ooor’. Whatever it is, ‘ooorhing’ job should hv been done by now; otherwise, go to the doctor hor….heehee Perhaps must meet up with you to assesse your problem :)))

Geraldine, back to you…tough case here…hahaha

  105. Terence,

To spice things up a bit, let’s have a bonus for the best performing mamasan and her team. This should bring out the ‘cattyness’ (I always thought that this is a better term than ‘bitchyness’ although they mean the same) in the mamasan and their girls. After all feline qualities are required for such jobs.

As co-owner I’ll contibute the bonus, maybe dinner vouchers. Perhaps the owner would like to chip in too.

Terence, you can be the judge together with, maybe the owner, manager and another. I cannot be one since one of the mamasan is supposed to be my wife. There’ll be favouritism there.

  106. Hi Steven,

Glad that you are taking a role as a Guest. It’s nice to have you with us.

How long will you be away in Nov? The whole month? We’ll be in town from 12 to 24 Nov. Will you be back by then? Cos Ivy, myself can meet you to give you an intensive cantonese course.

    Let us know.

  107. Hi Co-owner,

It’s a nice way to spice things up and the bonus will be a motivation to compete.

The judging part is good – Terence and myself since you can’t and the team that wins will have dinner with us; Terence, myself, you and the Club Manager.

Terence will decide which restaurant for 10. You guys will pay the bill, the Club Manager and I will buy gifts for the 6 ladies.

  108. Hi Geraldine Ting at 129,

How long will you be away in Nov? The whole month? We’ll be in town from 12 to 24 Nov. Will you be back by then?

OK. I will get back to you soon. Now I am preparing to go out to cycle from Clementi to West Coast Park Mac Don( my 2nd.home)for breakfast and also to breathe in fresh air(hope no haze) and admire the beautiful greenery inside the park which I use to go at least once per week.

    Chiao

  109. ” Steven,……your role should be a policeman, I am sure there’s police going in quite often to check on drug pushers right..”

I will be the one pushing the drugs assisted by Rose White and here you’re, Eileen, telling Steven-C to close my shop. You want me to quarrel and fight with you (which appears to be the “in” thing to do nowadays) huh?

Seriously, if you look at Steven from top to bottom, you can see that he is not very straight. So a not too straight matamata falls to temptations easily, esp when the cocaine is offered to him foc by a lady sweet as missy Rose.

Steven, this pie-kia look has lost all love to fight so if you make him the bouncer, he will bounce all over you till you’re trounced.

If all goes well with him, you will see a polisman, not with a gun tucked in his belt but bottles of laxative pills (he cant tell the ddifference btwn ecstasy pills & laxatives anyway) peddling. That’s why I had earlier mentioned the need and importance of a toilet washer.

  110. Pie-Kia Tim,

There must always be “Police and Thief” mah, there’s where the fun comes in.

Steven is so “Panjang”, just visualise him wearing a very short kaki pants, overside Mac Donald’s shoes (those olden days all policemen wear shorts, with lots Bycream on their hair), that’s where I offer to help with alterations to make it very, very short.

Steven, dun worry all these people in the cabaret will see you up, up and “angkat you”, the girls will serve drinks and offer cocaine, ecstasy,…etc, who knows maybe viagra also.

If there’s a need for toilet attendence, can I apply for the post…?

  111. Hi Tim Liu at # 123 ,

    V. Good to read your humourous comments once again.

Yes in good mood too; you sounded different ; :)
more refined in yr expressn without much of the *%&@*$%@@.

    Whatever you “Oor”,????
The OOor that you make fun of is actually the swordsman hero
“cry” for attention just like Tarzan with his OOeeOo…and so it is NOT nature’s call.

Anyway , I must say I enjoy your joke and so do others when you turn the Ooor candidly with your version of
“orr pei lor yow”? ha! ha! :)

  112. Hi Eileen Thean n Tim Liu ,

….you’re, Eileen, telling Steven-C to close my shop. You want me to quarrel and fight with you (which appears to be the “in” thing to do nowadays) huh?

Both of you better not talk so much of drugs;viagra, marijuana, ecstasy, opium, heroine, etc…
the CNB might be “eavesdropping” on our conversation .
Do not want our sheriff and others to be summoned to court. Ha! ha! :)

OK. My sec.school classmates often teased me for being so skinny and tall that they nicknamed as “Yin Tarn” means
Opium Smoker. On the contrary I do NOT dig drugs or experiment or to fantasize.

Ah Ha! I can be Koh Keok Chut.where is the Tai Tow Fut ?

And to tell you the truth Tim Liu and others ,I do NOT smoke becos I do NOT like the “smell” of cigarettes when I experimented it once with 1 cigarette during my teenage yr and I wentcoughing non stop for 2 mins.

Thank Gd.I NEVER took up the smoking habit otherwise by now, my pocket will be badly “burnt”

Based on the cost of 1 packet of cigarette @ $10 per day , I would easily have saved

    10 x 30 x 12 x 30 (ie 30yrs.) = $ 108 000.

Isn’t that a lot of cash to burn away from your “hard” earned money ?

Besides,it can cause cancer and other lung ailments.
Ultimately, the choice is yours. Should I quit?
I know it is NOT easy to stop the addiction.

My dad did quit smoking for 20 yrs. before he died.Alas, too late he died of lung cancer as his lungs are already heavily BBQ with so much of cig smoke that contains carcinogenic agents, tar and nicotine. Poor mum ;not a smoker but a”passive”smoker died of lymph cancer too.
    Blame my dad ? :(

  113. Nah, Steven-C, I am again back to a down mode dull mood but with a heart that’s anythg but faint, I am willing to ride the roller-coaster but do need to ventilate in here lest I go crazy, mistake you as my baby & coo you like yr daddy.

Yes, you’re quite right that Loke Siew Foong was cryinjg out for attention in his Orrr (not ooor which is the moo of a cow).

As you re-learn your Cantonese so as not to become 1 of many Canton-geese, you will agree that Orrr means hungry.

Loke was never short of women in his life but do you recall seeing any of his gals cook for him ? (I am no hero but I am lucky cos she cooks for me).

So the next time when Mr Loke opens his mouth and Orrr at you, dont give him the kiss you usually do but let him have the chicken drumstick but if you hv already eaten it yrself, give him yr inner thigh and believe me, it can make you high, hehe.

Eileen, why “visualise him wearing a very short kaki pants and offer to help with alterations to make it very, very short” when you can walk straight to him and tell him what you really fantasize?

I know Steven. He is very obliging and if, behind this smokescreen of offering to cut his shorts very short, it’s his kaki you relish, he will go to the cabaret without his pants. And probably without his shirt as well. With him in his pristine best, he can take on any role…papasan, pengsan or the Orrr-e-orrr cantonese tarsan

  114. Hi Jeffrey and Geraldine,

As co-owner of SHC Majestic International nightclub, both of you have to maintain good relationship with one another. Jeff, I think you are going to have a tough time. If my wife is one of the mamasans, I would try to kick out the current co-owner.

Yes, both of you can have your own plots. Dont forget, Geraldine is planning to come down all the way from Hong Kong for this event. I sense she is trying to buy over your share of the nightclub. Have fun.

As for me, I am planning to take the role of businessman guest, coming with other men, and take one table. Any male SHCian wishing to join my table?

    Terence Seah

  115. Hi Tim @ 137,

    Don’t Talk 3 Talk 4.

Channel your energy and decide which role you want to play in the night club scene if BOUNCER doesn’t suits you.

How about being a “Papasan” or a “Gigolo” for a change ?
    Ha! ha! :)

  116. Hi Geraldine Ting @ # 129,

….How long will you be away in Nov? The whole month? We’ll be in town from 12 to 24 Nov. Will you be back by then? Cos Ivy, myself can meet you to give you an intensive cantonese course.

    Ok. V. Busy lately.
Now it is time to bring “my” “boy boy”for his morning walk.
I will write to both of you thru email later.

    Adios

  117. Terence, Doreen and myself love all these chinese songs. Could we try to apply as singers for that night. If we qualify, then we will think of what songs to put in. Terence, only if we qualify and meet your requirements, you heard us singing before right? Doreen Lau & Sally Tan.

  118. Hi Terence

I really can’t catch up with all SHC postings n activities, hence do not read most of the comments including those on this thread. i just want to say that your night club ‘business’ seem like an exciting venture to go in. i worked as A&P mgr at an executive club in jakarta which is very similar to Neptune here. i also had visited many clubs with my husband n his tycoon friends, I’m familiar with how the people involved behave/act, so if you think i can be part of the ‘game’, just assign me. thanks

  119. Hi SallyT and DoreenL #142,

The nightclub and cabaret event focuses on the cabaret scene, singing and Chinese songs from the 70s. Yes, please go ahead and prepare 3 -4 songs each; I have slotted you into the singing list. Am sure, you will be loved by the crowds.

    Hi Frisna #143,

You have a talent I have been looking for for a long time. Currently, I am on a two week holiday; and when I am back I would like to talk with you on the being SilverHairsClub Advertising and Promotions manager (A&P). I hope we can take SHC into another level, which will cover more of Singapore’s SilverHairs. Meantime, I am pleased to have you as SHC Majestic International nightclub A&P manager. Keep your thoughts running.

    Terence Seah

  120. Hi Terence
Don’t mind helping you taking SHC to another level. but as for Majestic, can i be more than just A&P Mgr? I want to have fun also leh and A&P job will finish on the night of the event.

Dear Geraldine, thanks for your cheers. As Club owner, i’m at your command, madam

  121. “…….can i be more than just A&P Mgr?………. A&P job will finish on the night of the event…….Dear Geraldine…. i’m at your command, madam”.

    Easy.

I have highlighted the importance of toilet cleaners. We need a few for that.

Once the drinking starts, the job starts and trust me, it’s a very big job and you get the best of both sides of the commands…..as the owner commands you, you too get to command yr terms of use such as if you’re not tipped to yr liking, patrons will have to do their jobs outside and under Sengh’s table.

    Hehe………….

  122. Frisna dear,

Mm kaam tong, mm kaam tong. Our big family will have an absolute blast with our customers. Let’s hope one of our hostesses resembles the one whom Businessman Terence is still unable to forget. Kekekekeee.

    Tim,

Are you taking up a role? I know you wanted the D role but it’s not listed. How about joining Terence table?

  123. Terence,

If you need more singers, I have lots of friends above 50+ who love to sing & perform and they are much better than me. I can get them to join our club immediately.

    Sally Tan

  124. Hi SallyT #149,

Oh no, please do not get your friends to join SHC, just for the sake of the nightclub looking for singers. We don’t need more singers. We prefer current SHC members who love to sing to the tune of the 70s, and wanting to meet new SilverHairs friends.

    Terence Seah

  125. SHC Majestic International nightclub will resume discussion after the Flea mart on 31 Oct. Meantime, if you know of a venue that would suit our nightclub script, please let me know. I would be keen to visit the place sometime this or next week. I am keen to invite you for a pre-event dinner or lunch too.

    Terence Seah

  126. Now that the Oct mthly gathering is just over, we can chat again about the cabaret and nightclub theme event. So far, the venue has not been identified. We had one recommended by Kenneth, but the Chinatown venue is just too huge. Another venue at Havelock with the right Chinese settings was considered too expensive. Some of us visited a hotel lounge at Victoria Street, with the perfect setting of a nightclub, but the discreet behaviour of the hostesses was a concern for rival competition. As such, we have not been able to decide venue and date.

One more call from members for suggestion on a venue?

    Terence Seah

  127. Finally, we have a date for our cabaret nightclub nightout.

The venue will be announced, once TOP is completed.

Plse put this date in your diary. Sat, 16 Jan 2010. And be prepared for an evening of memories, sad ones, hatred, and love. Old 70’s Chinese songs, singers and hang on to your neck and waist dancing. No line dancing, maybe some chacha and some slow waltz.

During the good old cabaret days, men and women play a number of games with their hands and fingers. The losers usually have to drink, no need to strip. We are looking for men and women who knows how to play these games. All mamasans, PR hostesses, businessmen, friends and even waiters/waitress should try to learn one or two of these games. Ask your friends how to play. Calling the Patricks, Sams, Marys, … We have two months to learn.

    Have fun.

    Terence Seah

  128. Back to our cabaret and nightclub event on Sat Jan 16, 2010. I guess some of you have patronised cabarets and nightclubs in your younger days. Drinking games are very popular, especially the 5-10 game which is played with both hands. Can be done in Hokkien, Mandarin, Cantonese or even English. Losing a game usually means having to sip from the glass, until the glass is emptied. It’s a great way to enjoy the evening and get to know one another better.

Some members have started to learn the game. The following SHCians are pretty good with this game. They are MollyC, Sam Huat and GeraldineT. I am hoping Dolly will help us find the procedures of playing this game. And if anyone can find this on youtube, please let us know. I have tried hunting for the game on youtube, but no success.

I hope everybody who is planning to come to the cabaret and nightclub will learn this game. You got to be alert, fast and witty. Not difficult to learn. Try practising the game during the coming Nov gathering.

I hope to be able to get back to you within a week or two on the venue and the cost.

    Terence Seah

  129. We can now confirm the date, venue and price/pax of our Cabaret and nightclub theme event.

The venue: eight degree, located 8th floor, NTU Alumni Club, 6 mins walk from Bourna Vista MRT station. It has the ideal setting for a cabaret nightclub, nice sofas, good dancing floor, a stage and accompanying musical instruments. We shall have a live band and live music and live DJ. There will be sufficient lights for playing 5/10 games, but probably not enough to recognise one another.

The dance floor is ideal for dancing, and you can be sure you wont knock into someone, even with eyes closed.

For our cabaret singers, do note the nightclub is equippped with a beautiful sound system. If you have a great voice, and are willing to throw out your emotions, also not shy, this is it. Please send in your songs, at least 3 -4 songs. If you can bring back the love, hate, jealousy and sad memories, you can be sure our patrons will hand you a flower.

There will be alcoholic, non-alcoholic and ladies drinks, we are working on the drinks menu; but definitely no food. No chicken wings, no rice and no beehoon. More details later.

This evening is also the fashion show of the century. For the ladies, get ready your dress, cheongsam if it is not torn, high collars, high heals, shinning bags, cake powder and perfume. We have arranged a special changing room, so that you dont attract anybody at the MRT. For the men, take out your suit, your tie and go for a 60s to 70s hairdo. If you dare, you can also come in a white singlet, short sleeve, 3 inch black belt and a below-the-knee pair of trousers. It’s all left to your imagination; but do get ready.

And lastly, I have to announce the date change. It is now Sun 17 Jan 2010, 1900 hours to 2359 hrs.

And, ooh, the cost. I was hoping to find something less than $45, but we wanted an exclusive place, a live band, good system, comfortable sitting, a fantastic dance floor and closeness to the MRT. So, if you register and pay before 20 Dec 2009, the cost is $20/pax. For organisation reasons, after this date, the cost is $25/pax. More details soon.

The script is getting more complex. If you can help out with the desk registration, decor, please raise your hand. In those days, there are roles for shoe cleaner, $0.50 per polish, can volunteer too. Share with us your imagination. This is also your dream theme.

    Terence Seah

  130. Hi Terence Seah ,

At last, the cabaret dream theme of yours has materialised.
Let me be the 1st. customer to sign in for this year’s exciting event.

Hope the date is finally confirmed and no further changes as I will be leaving on 22 Jan 2010 to K.L.

Looking forward to this EXCITING event.

P/S I would like to volunteer to hang up any banners or balloons or deco items. Assured , no ladders needed .
    Ha! Ha! :)

Calling all the ” FUN LOVING ” Padang gang /others , pls.give your support and bring back the beautiful memories of the past “Shanghai Tan” days.

Btw. could you pls.write down your bank account number for us to transfer the cash on line.

  131. Hi Steven,

The Cabaret theme is our dream. Together we shall all put the event in place. Thank you for raising your hands to help with the decor. If it is ok, I would like to ask you to take charge of the nightclub decor, not just for your neck and hands. So, in the typical Steven Chan, research on what a cabaret nightclub looks like. Have fun.

    Terence Seah

  132. Hi Terence,

    No thanks for your offer.

Let some one else who frequently visits cabarets or other volunteers to be the leaderin charge and has his/her team to work with.

I do not mind to be one of the ordinary members of that decor team helping out with the decoration.

  133. Hi Daniel #163,

We have almost forgetten you. Glad you are still keeping in touch. In principle, we have accepted using the band, which is playing at 8degree.

We have many events. Keep in touch. Please find sometime for us, let us know what you can offer and of course the cost. In principle, we love working with SHC members.

    Terence Seah

  134. Hi Terence,

We play for the love of music. We don’t charge a fee,
just provide the instruments, wine and food.
We perform( or rather I play with them when the other drummer is away) every thursday @ The Tavern in Seletar Golf and Country Club. All the band members qualify to be Silverhair members as they are in their 50’s.

    Take care

    Daniel

  135. Hi Hamidah,

For the songs that you plan to sing, simply mention the name of the songs, with its Chinese title on this forum. And, we wont be using a karaoke system.

I am not knowledgeable enough, but we will definitely have someone to elaborate further. Good to have your participation.

Now, where are all the other singers?

    Terence Seah

  136. Hi everyone,

The script writer for our nightclub theme event is looking for a stage manager, relatively conversant in Mandarin, able to do some MC’ing, friendly, know many songs from the 60s and 70s. You can help me by raising your hand, and enjoy the evening just the same. Waiting…

    Terence Seah

  137. Some SHCians feel strongly that nightclubs and cabarets are a thing of the past, a bad choice for an event theme, and a threat to family unity. A number have requested that I cancel the event, and that I should not encourage the theme and the behaviour in nightclubs. I respect their views and opinion. However, I feel that a theme event does make a gathering of SilverHairs different from another event.

Like Stars-in-Concert, the Cabaret and nightclub theme event focuses on Chinese songs of the 60/70s, singing talents, an evening to reflect on old memories, love, jealousy and sadness.

And, yes, like in all nightclubs, there will be alcoholic drinks, non-alcoholic drinks and ladies drinks. There will also be dancing, according to that era. And, we will all dress to the 60s and 70s. And, to add to the fun, we will also have games which are played among the guests, throughout the night. I have been asking around for a youtube video to show how to play the 5-10-15 game; and after a long time, I found it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJjIUi2ODAA.

It took a good two months to consider various venues, and finally, we found one that suits the theme. I hope all participants and SilverHairs will look at the event openly. The place has been booked and the event is confirmed.

You can come by taking up a role in the club or as guests. I look forward to your registration, and hope you enjoy it. Strictly for SilverHairsClub members.

    Terence Seah

  138. Hi Terence and whoever interested in this game.

When I asked how the game is played, the players simply carry on to enjoy the game and expect me to catch what they were doing. Being slow or they were just too fast made me give up and just enjoy watching.

Watching the video link, Terence give leaves me just as confused so I decided to surf the internet for a better link.

I am not disappointed cos I found this link which shows you how to display your fist/hand and the rules of the game too.

    http://classes.design.ucla.edu/Winter09/157A/?p=216

So those game, can practise and try it out at the monthly meeting. Hopefully, we don’t get too carried away and make too much noise.

    Have fun everyone!

  139. We would be putting up the cabaret and nightclub hall plan soon. This will enable you to pick your seats.

As a guide, those with roles will sit in front, subject to space availability. Patrons can take the best seats which is one row behind but with clear view of the stage, singer and dancing. I shall be asking the registration team to help with this. Keep yourself update.

I encourage patrons to start to form groups of 4 to 5 so that you can sit together. And learn the 5-10 hand game. Thank you Oi Cheng for picking the game video http://classes.design.ucla.edu/Winter09/157A/?p=216. See you all for practice this coming Mon 30 Nov mthly gatheirng. GeraldineT, please go over the two youtube videos, and give us your comments. You seem to be pretty good with this game.

I shall be closing the total number of pax at 100. Please register yourself and your group, asap.

Singers, dont forget to send in your song names. 3-5 songs. Not karaoke type.

    Terence Seah

  140. For all SHC men, without roles and coming as patrons or guests coming to the nightclub event, please try to form small groups of 4 -5 so that you can be seated together at a private table.

And, for ladies, please prepare your high heals, and look up old magazines or videos so that you can be dressed to the 60s and 70s. Red lipstick is a must. I think the ladies do not wear jeans during those times, so it has to be skirts and dresses, and shining handbags too.

Hi Patrick Chan, please give us your tips on what to wear for men.

    Terence Seah

  141. Wow! no joke, this cabaret nightclub is going to be real. Tho I am a flower girl, that’s extra duty only mah, I am still looking for a guy with that “towkay” look to bring me into the nightclub……hehehe….if I “tak laku” hor, then huh, I join the guest, hostess, mamasan, singers, club managers or Ah Huat playing 5/10 game lor. ;)

    Ah Nee

  142. For the Cabaret and nightclub opening, we have now recruited a Stage manager. He will speak 90% of the time in Mandarin, keep the stage in order, likely to introduce the singers, and announce the break times or if your car is blocking the traffic lights. He has discretion over the stage and all announcements.

He is a well known personality, among SHC members, non other than Thomas Loh. His employment contract is two years.

    Terence Seah

  143. Hi Terence,

Have gone through Oi Cheng’s link. The winner has to win twice before the opponent gets the ‘penalty’. This is workable if there are only 2 players (takes a longer time to get tipsy/drunk. Kekekekee).

However, 3 players and above should just be eliminated one by one until the final 2 (like we did in your room………).

I can imagine Oi Cheng’s confusion watching your youtube link which is only good for people who already know.

  144. We shall try to practise the 5-10 game during our Monday gathering. You can be sure the game is exciting.

Meantime, I shall try to get the tickets to the SHC Cabaret and nightclub opening by Mon 30 Nov. Each ticket is $20 if purchased before 20 Dec 2009. After that, the ticket price is $25. Will be on sale on Mon 30 Nov.

    Terence Seah

  145. For SHCians who rarely visit cabarets and nightclubs, here is a little tip which I was told to share with you. A nightclub usually saves money by not having a lot of lights; so unless you are a frequent patron, you will not know where to find the best seat. One way to get a good seat, so that you can see the stage and the singers or find a quiet undisturbed corner is to tell the waitress what you want, and after she has led you to the table, you hold her right hand and give you $10. In our case, $2 should do. Dont expect change.

And, Lilian, I guess you are getting everyone exited too.

    Terence Seah

  146. Hi GeraldineT and JeffreyL,

The SHC Cabaret and nightclub will have a new name when it re-opens on Sun 17 Jan 2010. The script writer requires both of you to welcome all guests and staff at 7.30pm. Please contact one another to prepare a 5 min welcome speech.

    Terence Seah

  147. Hi Terence #167

Thanks for yr reply & also for organising this event for SCHians.

    My choice of songs are:-

    (1) Khe Ai The Mei Kway Hwa
    (2) Shanghai Tan
    (3) Zhu Ni Shun Fong

Hope my hanyu pinyin spelling are correct. Looking forward to this fun & great event.

Hi Nor/Zariah/Ithminah/Shasha & other Malay members

Do come and support, if you don’t want to take up a role then just be the patrons. Fyi Rose will be coming too.

Puan Nor, since you are so friendly & cheerful always, would suggest to take up the role of waitress or mamasan hee…hee

    Cheers
    Hamidah

  148. Terence
    Ref: #90 and #92

Why is my name still down for the role of mamasan?

Since you said just now that I can’t have the role of a ‘businesswoman’ and enter the cabaret alone, I will accept your invitation to play the role of your ‘partner’.

How do you want me to be? A possessive partner? A submissive partner who will not stand in the way of your flirting with all the hostessess? Or a fierce partner who will clobber any woman competing for your attention?

Like Doreen suggested, I will have to find myself a large fan that I can use to ‘stab’ at the women or to hit you with when you get out of hand with them or with me. Can?

  149. Dolly Lim
    #176
I don’t understand why my name is up for mamasan in spite of my refusal to be one. Terence must be groggy from too much drink?
No wonder Dennis Wee didn’t believe me when I said I had already refused to be one.
I’ve agreed to play the role of his ‘partner’.

  150. Hey Mary,

What a pity that you are not going to be the Mamasan……not that you are bitchy, kekekekkeee, you will play the role well with your elegance and great negotiation skills.

So now you are Terence’ partner……hmmm……very exciting!!

  151. A number of nightclub tickets were bought tonight. If you are the owner of tickets C02, C022, C025, C026, C027, C039, please indicate your name, as I am not able to read your hand writing.

    Terence Seah

  152. Hi MaryC #183,

Very nice of you to play the role of Terence’s partner. I think being bitchy, being possessive and fierce suit you well. Submissisve, no lah, I wont like it. We shall go to the nightclub together; but when it is time to go home, let the driver take you back. James Tan and myself are going out for supper.

    Terence Seah

  153. Geraldine Ting #185

    How are you?

Terence said I needed to ‘hiao’ with the men if I were a mamasan. I only know how to do that with one man and usually in private. So the mamasan role isn’t for me.

Well, I got talked into the ‘partner’ role yesterday, so, so much for my negotiating skill. Hope I can carry it off without collapsing in laughter. Not easy being ‘bitchy’ and ‘fierce’ with a harmless guy like Terence, hahaha.

‘Exciting’?? Hahaha. With A Bendaras or S Connery perhaps. ;-)

  154. Terence #187

hm “bitchy and fierce “. Traits every woman has hidden in her, only to be used if someone deserves her ire.
Any way, I reserve them for obnoxious people only.

‘Possessive’? I’ll try. Just hope I don’t spoil my act by giggling.

Oh, I didn’t know there would be a driver too. So you ARE playing the role of the towkay down to the last bit. Fine with me, hahaha.

  155. Hi everybody attending the SHC nightclub event, the max pax is 100. The cost is $20 per person (by 15 Dec) and $25 per pax (after 15 Dec). The total cost for the use of the venue with band is $2,000. Altho the place can accept more people, we have set the limit to 100 pax.

To get your tickets, please use internet banking DBS savings plus 023-2-036 239. Please check your name against the attendance list in the Post. I hope you will enjoy being part of the script.

    Terence Seah

  156. Oh dear, you can’t read my handwriting? Our names were indicated against the ticket numbers. C022 – Annto, C025 – Tan Boon Liang, C026 – Janet Chan, C027 – Joy Chuang, C030 & C040 – Lily Ho & Jway.

Btw we’re taking a table for ourselves (6 per), C022-C026 + Peng Peng (yet to purchase the ticket).

    For your update…. thanks,

  157. Nightclub ticket numbers for Sun 17 Jan 2010 updated. Thanks for your payment. Please wait for the draft floor layout to be out sometime next week. Then you will know where you are seated.

    Terence Seah

  158. Hi Jway. Thanks for being my esccort. Otherwise, I’ll need a job to get in.

    To : Jennifer & Xiang Xiang @ #70.
    Susan Chan & her hostesses @ #98
You gals are great and so spotting. You have my absolute admiration. Bravo.! :)

I hope more ladies will come forward as this is just role acting like playing doctor or masak masak. No one in their right frame of mind should take it to mean otherwise.

Had I not been invited by towkay Jway, I would have joined you gals as a hostess. I think it’s easier than being a Mamasan and definitely more glamorous and fun than being a toilet attendant….. heee.

What an opportunity to dress up like in the 60s.! I’ve got my cheongsam….. now, need to go get a bright red lipstick.

    Cya ;)

  159. Hi Rosna #68,

Thank you for your resume. The nightclub personnel manager has gone over your resume, and is offering you a job as a PR hostess. You can choose your mamasan or you will be assigned to one. Training will be provided within the first 30 minutes of club opening.

    Would you be interested?

    Terence Seah

  160. Hi Catherine Koh #78,

The nightclub personnel manager has accepted your role as singer. You have given 2 songs. Can you please submit us the names of another 2 songs you would like to sing?

    Hi Patrick Chan #83,

Our nightclub owners are very pleased that you will be coming to the nightclub opening. As a big customer, we look forwrd to having a drink with you on Jan 17. Please let us know the names of your friends in your table.

    Terence Seah

  161. Hi Sue Chan #98,

I guess you are doing secret recruitment of your group. Are you ready to release their names. We are all getting excited. I am sure your training is very intensive.

    Hi DoreenL and SallyT #142,

We are all very excited and eager to hear you sing. Can you please provide the song titles of the songs you will be singing. Thank you.

    Terence Seah

  162. Hi Terence

    Cheers
    Agnes

  163. Hi Terence

Please sigh Pauline Khoo in for this event… I will do the transfer for sockie/Pauline & myself soon .

WIll appreciate if u can arrange the 3 of us in the same table . Thanks

    karen

  164. Hi Richard #208,

I am sure you will make an excellent DOM. Good if you can recruit another 4 DOM and bring 5 ladies too to your table.

Thank you for being so sporting. It adds to the fun at the end of the day.

    Terence Seah

  165. Dear Lily @ 201,

Thank you for your sweet compliments! You sure spur us on with more courage & determination in our role-play. Extremely gracious of you to define the role-play of a ‘mamasan’ too; as some may think the task of a ‘Mamasan’, is ‘very easy’, as she just simply ‘pushes’ all male customers to her bevy of hostesses to serve ??…

Having been to ‘Xin Tian Di’ niteclub in Shanghai before, allow me to reiterate that a ‘Mamasan’ do have a supervisory role to portray. By bringing more fame & glamour to her bevy of hostesses, she must compete with other Mamasans, and by doing so, she must be Courageous, Quick & Witty to be able to spot and catch hold of all incoming businessmen/customers. With both vocal & PR skills, she must sit & interact with the businessmen, before finding out more on their demands & their ideal gals etc, as this would certainly facilitate the ‘Mamasan’ in getting the right hostesses to entertain them.

Being a mamasan or a hostess, one certainly needs to be bold & display a little ‘flirtation’ which is inevitable, as they ought to exude their own sexiness to captivate their customers by dressing in a simple, shimmering cheongsam, or their favourite provocative plunging necklines!

For the ultimate fun in contributing towards an evening of nostalgic Shanghai, we need to be Proactive & remain Positive on the role-play of fellow SHCians, with no ‘Negative Thoughts’ ~~ after all, its just a Make-Belief Night of Entertainment & Joy!

    Dear Terence @ 204,

Yes! I’ve recruited 5 hostesses as a ‘Mamasan’. My sporting gals need no training, as I’ve told them the simple rules of the chinese game ~’5-10-15 or all’, and being their ‘mamasan’, I will stand up for them & take over any challenges if any.

Do allow me to reveal their names by tomorrow, as I’m in the midst of compiling ‘their Contract’ with me..

    Cheers!

  166. Hi Terence & Stage Manager,

Sorry for late response as I was hesitating for what song to sing due to my little capability.

OK. I will sing following songs :
    1. Huan Le Jin Xiao
    2. Jin Tian Bu Hui Jia
    3. Zui Hou Yi Ye
    4. Wu Ye Xiang Wen

I believe there will be some practice with live band rite?
Please let me know early. Thanks!

    Cheers!
    Catherine Koh

  167. Hi Terence,

I will walk into the night club with Michael Tan. hehehe….Terence, don’t you agree that he has got the “towkay” look! please register him. I will transfer $40 via ibanking to your account soon. Cheers!

    Ah Nee

  168. Hi Terence,

Sorry, I have a change of heart on my pick of songs. Here are my final selections: (1)???, (2)??????, (3)?????? & (4)?????????.

My apologies for any inconv caused.

  169. Sue #210,

“Being a mamasan or a hostess, one certainly needs to be bold & display a little ‘flirtation’ which is inevitable, as they ought to exude their own sexiness to captivate their customers by dressing in a simple, shimmering cheongsam, or their favourite provocative plunging necklines!”

Wow, my saliva is drooling already, with the description of
    your sexy n flirtatious hostess/mamasan.

I may turn into a D.O.M, or maybe even a Frankinstein.

Btw, r yr girls available for the nite out after the event?

    Cheerios,
    james

  170. Hello James @ 214,

As regards to ‘my girls’ accompanying the guests out after the event, the Mamasan will usually leave the decision to her girls’ discretion, as they’re in the best position to decide after all the mingling & idling with them. And of course, this depends on how well you’re able to negotiate & willing to ‘part with those extra $$notes in your wallet too’!…..

Judging from your good humour & charisma, you’ll certainly succeed in persuading one of my girls to accompany you for supper, and thats for sure!

    Cheers!

  171. Hi JamesT #214,

You are joining my group. Who are you bringing to this party? Let me know when you are ready to release the name.

    Terence Seah

  172. Hi CatherineK and JanetC, and singers,

Your song titles have been changed, as requested. Soon, I shall be asking our stage manager Thomas Loh to be in contact. As of now, the plan is there will be 3 sets of singing time slot, intermixed with another 3 sets of DJ/music. Will release more details after meeting the band. All singers, please practise very hard, as there will be no script and no TV screen. And, all guests and patrons, businessmen, singers, every one are free to dance while the singing in on.

Peng Peng has raised her hands to be a singer. Peng Peng, please send us your song names.

Important: All singing roles are now closed. Please note no background dancers and no line dancing.

Total participants registered todate – 64 pax

    Terence Seah

  181. One of SHC’s most active waitress is Molly Chua. She has offered to be our nightclub’s waitress. Besides serving drinks, she is also good at challenging you to a drink, over a 5-10-15 game.

Thanks Molly. Let’s see who will dare to take you on.

    Terence Seah

  182. Hi Terrence,

Thanks for appointing me as DOM. Hope I will live up to your expectations, maybe even more.
Since I have been appointed as Chief DOM, I don’t think I’ll have any difficulty in recruiting 4 more DOM. As a matter of fact, I believe that there’ll be overwhelming response. Therefore only those with the highest & dirtiest qualifications need apply.
Terrence, do I recruit my own girls on the Post or at the Cabaret? Veronique, Xiang2, Jennifer Lim & Jane Kee have requested to be at my table. Is this OK?

    Richard

  183. Hi Richard Kee #228,

Excellent, Chief DOM. Yes, go ahead and recruit other DOM to your table. Who’s on your table is up to you and your group. But, table seatings and layout will be available only next week.

Well done. I forgot to ask if Jane Kee is coming and sitting on your table?

    Terence Seah

  184. Dear Terence,

Ref my comments #210, I am pleased to announce the names of my 4 charming hostesses ~~ they are Catherine Yeo, Agnes Seow, Lydia Chin & Susan Tan. Thank You, Girls!

Together with my team of versatile dancers and to count on the generous support & (real tips) from ‘businessmen’, we are confident of delivering our best for the nite’s theme.

    Cheerio!

  185. Hi Terence,
Please add Rene and Tian Soo to my table. Tian Soo will be Suzhang’s towkay for that night. I am still recruiting more towkays for our table. Anyone?

    BTW Terence,
Your statement : “Seating will be based on first come, first request on this Post.” – I take it to mean FCFS by registration and not by seating request right?

  186. Hi Terence,

$40 for myself and Michael Tan has been transfered to your account via ibanking. Please check for ref. no: 2581524965. Thanks!

    Ah Nee

  187. Coming very soon is the opening of our SHC Nightclub. When you arrive at the opening, you will be greeted by Eileen Thean, Oi Cheng and a team of urshers. Oi Cheng and Eileen Thean may be recruiting some urshers. Their duties will finish at 7.30pm, and they will continue to join the event, just like the guests and patrons.

Please show your ticket number, and register your name. Dont forget you have to bring along your name tag, and put it on your blouse or shirt. The urshers will then lead you to your table.

  191. Hi Terence

The name mentioned at #218 & #220 – is meant for Malcolm Chen. Thus, please amend your attendees list at #61 – to Malcolm Chen not Malcolm Ong.

    Thanks,
    Suzhang

  194. Calling all singers to the nightclub. If you can take a digital picture of your self (portraits, and a sweet one), please email it to me. If not, find someone around you to take a digital camera picture of you. I intend to make a poster to be placed at the entrance to the nightclub.

Calling SallyT and DoreenL, please send us the song titles of your singing, so that we can liase with the musician. We will then arrange your singing slot.

  195. SHC Majestic International Cabaret and nightclub is undergoing a major change. The owners Jeffrey and Geraldine have put in $1.5 million to give it a new look. In case, you do not know, it is located at NTU Club @ One North, near Bourna Vista MRT station.

Thomas Loh, our stage manager, has been assigned to come up with a new name. One suggestion is “Sing song, talk cok Nightclub”. Nah, we are looking for a Chinese name. Thomas is going to be fun on stage. Watch him, he is handsome. He speaks mainly Mandarin.

Lily Ho has just been hired by the club to co-ordinate the singing sequence. She may get in touch with the singers.

Molly Chua has been hired to be our lead waitress. She will come to your table, ensure you have your beer, red wine and soft drinks. And, also to play 5-10 with you if you are game enough to lose her. dont worry, she always loses. A little tip goes a long way.

  202. Hi Rose White #251,

You did not say yes or no, but I think you would love to do the role of hostess. So, I have sent your name to the personnel manager. He would luv to recruit you. Please confirm.

    Terence Seah

  203. The co-owners of the nightclub have instructed the managers to look at the seating plan. Oi Cheng is laying out the floor plan so that the audience can have a good look at the stage and singers. We are assessing the groupings now.

For those who have not booked your tickets, please do so asap. I think we have 11 tickets left.

    Terence Seah

  204. Some 32 years ago, I went to a nightclub in Kaohsiung. It was a beautiful and posh nightclub. Get straight to the point, I bought 1 drink ticket (equal to ONE drink). The tickets have numbers that looked like F022.

Then, a hostess came along to my table. We had a chat in my best hokkien; and she asked if I would buy her a drink. Of course, I said yes, and her drink came.

While drinking, and all of a sudden, she gently pulled me to the dance floor, and we danced and danced. When the song finished, she pulled me back to the table, and walked away. I was shocked.

Well, this nightclub had a system whereby every hostess has a number. When the number flashed on a display board, she would ask the customer to dance with her. I had bought one drink, and was entitled to one song. Haha, I didnt know.

So, keep your ticket number safely. Remember to look at the board.

  205. Hi Friends

Terence comments @ 172 & 173 for patrons to form groups of 4-5 is not applicable anymore as the Cabaret seating varies.

You may submit names in your group and I will assign a table keeping your group together but do expect to have others joining your group to make up the number.

For those who have earlier submitted names in your group, please re-submit as it is too tedious and time consuming to go through 200+ comments. I am taking in names submitted starting from Jway@254.

Mamasans and Hostesses need not reserve any tables.

I will inform you of your table no. nearer the date.

Just a note here: I will do my best to keep your group together but due to settings and layout of the cabaret, sometimes this may not be possible. Your understanding is much appreciated.

  206. Dear Sir #259,

With regards to your offer, the answer is NO and my attendance is impermissible due to personal commitment.

    Thank you.

    Yours sincerely,

    Rose White

  207. Hi Terence

Please include Mega, the Sheik from Saudi and his oriental beauty Jane Tan in my group.

Our two tables are now totally filled upto capacity. So, please ensure all my guests are within your closing limit of 100 pax. I will transfer payment for any outstanding account and informed ref. no. by today.

PS: You still have not included John Howe in the list.

  208. Hi Oi Cheng,

I have alr listed my table of 6 (#197), am now adding 4 names to make up our table of 10.

    1) Alice Teo
    2) Sunny Yeow
    3) Tan Boon Liang
    4) Janet Chan
    5) Annto
    6) Lee Peng Peng ($20 trsf’d @ #235. No response from Terence, and no ticket issued; pl help.)
    7) Lawrence Khan
    8) Eliza Chua
    9) Lina Tan
    10) Dennis Wee

  209. Hi Terence / Oi Cheng

Our group is now totally paid up. Await your table allocation.

    Thks & Rgds / Lily

  210. Dear Terence and Company

I regret to inform you that I wish to withdraw my participation from this event, thus my singer post. I hope you can find someone to replace me in time for the event, which I think should not be a problem as we have many good singers in our midst.

To Towkay Jway and Mistress Lily, I would like to say thanks for including me in your group and to say sorry if I disappoint.

Just want go on a hiatus and take a couple of months break from SHC activities due to health and personal reasons. Tired physically and mentally.

I hope you all will accept my decision. No questions asked and I hope you all will respect my wishes.

Wishing you all a successful party.

    Warmest Regards
    Caroline Gee

  211. Hi Terence

Please book a table for business tycoon Andrew Koh and business associates Kent Chan, Steven Chan, Wong Hong Jeng and Marg Tian.

  212. Hi Star Singers of Cabaret Nite,

Your application to be the star singer of our Cabaret Nite have been gleefully accepted. I have been hired by the club to co-ordinate the singing sequence, and I will need the following from you :

    1) As per Terence’s request, all singers of the nightclub is to provide a digital picture of yourself (portraits type, glamour shot is best). Please email it to Terence as he intend to make a poster bill board to be placed at the entrance to the nightclub to promote our “stars singers”.

    2) Calling SallyT and DoreenL, we are still waiting for your song titles, so that we can start liaising with the musician in order to arrange your singing slot. (Doreen Lau – I do not have your email address, please provide when responding.)

    3) Caroline is the only one to request for the kind of tempo for each of her songs. If the rest of you have similar request, please do so now. No indication means that you are prepared to sing to any tempo of the musician’s choice.

    4) Please also indicate the key you are most comfortable to sing in so that the musician have time to plan accordingly.

    5) There will be a musician (a 1-man band) and a DJ and they play intermittently @ every 45 minutes interval. If you prefer to sing to pre-recorded CD (minus 1 type – ie. minus vocal), please let us know now and you will have to provide your own CD. These CDs have to be in Mp3 format.

    6) This is going to be live singing – no karaoke screen and no rehearsal. We do not expect perfection and our motto is : “A little chaos is fun.” So, Ladies – relax and let’s have fun together.

Looking forward to your reply soon – either via pte email or post your comment here is fine with me.

    Thks & Rgds / Lily

  213. Oh Dear Caroline

I was so looking forward to your singing and participation but will respect your wish not to ask further question. Hope everything is alright. When there’s a need, you know who to call ok.? Yours truly.

  214. Hi Oi Cheng #279,

Since you have a group of 4, I can share with you and form a bigger group. Please include Terence Seah (Businessman), Mary Chan (my local partner), Jeffrey Lim (Bkk co-owner), Geraldine Ting (HK co-owner) and James Tan (owner of Tanglin cars).

Gosh, getting excited by the week. Oi Cheng, the darker, the better.

    Terence Seah

  215. Hi Caroline @ 275,

I think it will be a big shame if you are not singing. I always enjoy your singing, remember the trip to Batam?

I hope you resolve whatever it is that’s bugging you, and soon too.

I always take it one day at a time, and I plan my day when I am brushing my teeth, when it’s bad.

Cheer up and join the SHC group for the cycling or monthly walk. Fresh air and exercise together with good company is bound to lift up your spirit.

And who knows, there might be some broad shoulders to rest your pretty head on.

Cheer up, Christmas is around the corner, and there is always something special or magical about Christmas.

Lest I forget, buy a ticket to see “Broadway Beng…”
You will have a roaring time or your money back, you have my guarantee.

For those who are looking forward to the upcoming Cabaret Nite, you should also try to catch it before it ends on Dec 12th.

Hope Admin does not think I am ‘advertising’for Mr Beng

You don’t have to buy the stalls, just go for the circle seats, cheap and good, like ‘jiak liu lian’

    Sincerely

  216. There is the common misconception that mamasans and their bevy of hostesses are a coterie of bitchy, slutty women. Well there are Patpong bars and ‘gentlemen clubs’ and SHC Majestic International Nightclub (let’s think of a more succinct name), needless to say will be at the upper end of the scale.

In such an establishment, the mamasan carries herself with polish, poise, confidence and above all with an allure of class. It’s not an easy job and one which cannot be taught. Either she has it or she doesn’t. The same goes for the hostesses under her wing. There are the girls at Patpong who will paw at the customers as soon as they step into the darkened premises but not to say that the hostesses at the other end of the scale are prim spinsters, for a hostess who keeps her hand by her side whole night will be looking for another job the next morning. So the trick which all successful hostesses must master is how to carry out their job, tantalisingly without appearing as though they were born in the gutter.

And with reference to #210 and #237 , we now have one mamasan of the stature of the legendary Mona Koh. But the soul of a nightclub is the mamasans and their hostesses so I’m sure there are enough ladies of class in SHC to fill the remaining roles of mamasans.

  217. Charles @ #282

Of course I don’t mind your mention of “Broadway Beng”. Please organise for members to watch this play. I m keen to watch. Sure Caroline wld want to.

    YK

  218. Carly,

I am very disappointed of your withdrawal from singing leh :( Not quite the same without you…I am silently hoping that you will change your mind.

    Ah Nee

  219. All 4 tables of 10 have been taken. So form groups of 6 or less.

Jway, Karen, Annto, Agnes and Terence – your requests are noted. Table nos. will be given nearer the date.

Please submit names if you wish to sit together asap. If you have submitted before 5 Dec, please re submit (reason given in my comment 264) Inconvenience regretted.

  220. Hi Terence,

Please reserve a small table for my singers Sally and Doreen. I am working with my other partners who are also talent scouts from Indonesia – Mr Chin Boon and Mr Roger from HK. Mr Chin Boon who is confirmed coming and will make the transfer via TT soon. Mr Roger due to his tight schedule will be confirming his presence soon.

The other 2 seats are reserved for another talent scout from Malaysia, Mr Daniel K and his partner, who unfortunately can only confirmed attending later this week.

Also requesting the table that is close to the stage, for the convenience of the singers and for the talent scouts to make good assessments to sign up potential singers.

On that note other singers are free to join my table to get my assistance and advise to increase their chances of getting recording contracts from the talent scouts.

I do not take bribes or work in such manner but however do accept genuine appreciation of any kind for my work. I can offer to advise you with music arrangement, tempo and presentation style that enhances your singing skill, performance and stage technical acoustics, etc.

    Cheers

  221. Hi Terence,
    Sorry for the delay.
    1. I’ve trf $20 on 7 Dec to you, ref: 3958.Tks-Sally Tan
    2. DoreenL’s songs are : ?? ? & ? ??
    3. SallyT’s songs are: ? ? ? ? ?; ? ? ?; ???? ?
    Thanks.

  222. Hi Terence,

Long time never participate in SHC’s event, pls include me as the last person in this event (100). Will trf after work.

    Thank you.

    Judy

  223. Aiyoh Ronald Wie, I headache liao lah. Can only reserve for those confirmed and paid hor. So just list names of those who have paid in your table? Thanks.

  224. Hi Terence,
I will not be available on the day, therefore kindly delete my name..Have an enjoyable time my friends!…will meet u again ….cheers :)

  225. Hi Terence,

Jonson Tan just gave me a call to assist him in registering for the above event.

Please slot him in your list of attendees and Jonson will advise you payment details once the transfer is done.

Oi Cheng ~~ Upon payments made by Judy Lim #292 & Jonson Tan, please arrange them to be seated at Andrew Koh’s table, as per his request. Thanks!

    Cheers!

  226. Hi Caroline Gee,

We definitely will miss yr singing.

Take good care and take 1 day at a time and hope you had a speedy recovery and be able to join us.
    Goodnight.

  227. Hi Admin/YK @285,

    Sorry for my balated reply.

Thanks for your kind comment about not being in breach of SHC advertising rules.

Unfortunately I think there will not be enough time to arrange for SHC members to see “Broadway Beng” as a group. Nevertheless they can still book the tickets individually or with their friends and see it before the last day on Dec 12th.

I think it will be money well spent and it will support and promote local bred talents. More so with the current excitement about cabarets, you can see Royston Tan’s ‘over-the-top’ treatment of cabaret performers, lighting, costumes, colour and flesh.

Who knows, there might be some ideas there for some???!!!

I enjoyed myself, even with my limited vocabulary of Hokien.

Jia yu, Kan Pei and Yam Seng to all cabaret goers

  228. Hi Terence,

I had transferred following fund to your account on 7/Dec 18:38 hrs at Toa Payoh MRT under ref. no. 6986 for :

    1) Hamidah Ishak $20
    2) Catherine Koh $20
    3) Angela Straatan $20
    4) Helen Kuek $20
    ————————
    Total : $80

    Thank you and Best regards
    Catherine Koh

  229. Hi Oi Cheng,

Cabaret role playing is just beginning so expect more headaches and heartaches too but it is all for the fun of make beliefs. I have also dream what it is like to be a talent scout and professional music director of a recording company.
So Chin Boon and me will start to know what comes if we are really talent scouts. Jokes aside though Chin Boon used to be a musician too.

Unfortunately the other talent scouts from HK and Malaysia can’t make it due to their tight schedule. So only Chin Boon, me and singers Sally and Doreen will be at our table.
    All paid already.

    Cheers

  230. Hi! Terence/Admin

I had arranged trf of S$20/= on 07 Dec 09 under transaction ref: 2933 at Pasir Ris ATM being settlement of my share.

    thank you.

    Judy

  231. Hi Oi Cheng

Re #264, repeat herewith members for our table :
Eileen Lee, June Lim Kristen Leong, Bira and me.
Feel free to assign at your disretion. Thanks.

  232. Hi sorry forgot all abt this. Old me :-)) Hve jus paid up via POSB atm …$20, ref 5027 at 15:06.

It wold be fun to be asst bouncer…look mean and act mean to those I “boi song”. :-)) But then a bouncer has to be there before the cabaret starts and can only leave whn the cabaret closes. I therefor choose to be a patron to be seated with Bira and co. But then sit there “quai quai” (goody goody) no fun..right? And I think I can snooze if I hve to wait for some guy to come ask me to lumsing…bec there are so few guys around…:-))) and all got partners liao!!! I think I will be the “seow teng tong 13-dot” patron!!! Ya…I think I will just be that for a couple of hours that nite..:-)))

  233. Hi Oi Cheng,

Kindly arrange a table comprises : Richard Kee (Chief DOM), Yew Kwong (Boss of Fitness Club), Paul Kong (Businessman) and their lady friends namely, Jane Kee, Peggy Kong, Pearl Goh and the one and only Veronique.

Ref # 199, Jennifer Lim and Xiang2 who will “wayang “ as hostesses are omitted from our group because they have to be under the watchful eyes of their mamasan.

Don’t hesitate if you need to brief me on the responsibilities for the role of usher.

    Thank you!

  234. June Lim #305

Can’t imagine you as a bouncer, hahaha.

We have to sit there ‘quai quai’ meh? I thought in those cabaret days, people who went to cabarets did not behave ‘quai quai’ right?
It’s ok to be a little ‘seow teng tong’ lah. Anyway, I plan to be. Will try and drive Terence up the cabaret wall, hee hee hee.

  235. #305 halo 13 dots aka june lim ,

i now lagi chin bo song liao , cos i was happi lei , wen i knoe u r asst bouncer… cos i am de onli male bouncer..

now ,u 1 2 kuai kuai har ? apa machamp lei !!!!hahaha

  236. Wei Mary, with you bahave ‘seow teng tong’ and not ‘quai quai’, those 6 hostesses where got chance to entertain the towkay Terence le, likewise for other lady patrons and towkays.

Wish this carabet nightclub play a successful one. Cheers.

    jane

  237. Sue Chan @295 – Andrew table can only accomodate one more so Jonson Tan will join Andrew.

Karen @ 303 – your table can also accomodate one more so Judy Lim will be at your table.

Don’t worry Grace Kok, you are not lost, so come and join my table to make 10.

Hope above arrangement is agreeable with all.

As the Cabaret depends on towkays for their $$$$$, they have priority to be at the front tables. Patrons will have to take the back seats but be assured, these are better seats as you can see what the towkays and business associates are doing.

Except for one towkay who prefers to be in the back and dark so no one can see what he is doing. Naughty! naughty! Sigh.. what to do, I have to accede to his request as he is a “tua towkay.”, else I get the boot even before its opening.

  238. Oi Cheng

Judy just called me that Andrew confirmed Judy should be at his table… So , can u put Grace Kok wwith me …Sorry for confusion…

    karen

  239. Hey Oi Cheng,

Wonder who this big tycoon is? Better not be Terence himself…………..

Still waiting for our club’s name. Thomas, darling, what gives??

  240. Hi Geraldine,

    How are you? Still busy?

Lei chai derk moh chor. Hoh kwai hor? Moh siong kon, huer jo mut, gor dei do wui thai doh. thong huer ying fang gei jiong siong hoh mah, yin hau gor dei lak sok huer.

  241. Hi Oi Cheng,

I am good! How are ya?

So it is HIM. Sockie and Boon Liang (especially. He IS good at different angles) will be extra busy………..blackmail, big time!!

Where the fook will Jeffrey and I be?? Gosh.

  242. Ahhh……Oi Cheng. Yes. About to start my vulgar words…………kekekekkeeee. You know very well. Thought you’d never want to hear or see me ever again after the JB trip! So relieved that I am in your good book……..now I can sleep.

  243. Dear Lovely Ladies @ 312 and 313:
After reading seem like a confusion alrite.

    Hi Oi Cheng,
A dear frenz is at your table. I would like join to stay close by. However if seating arrangements deter, please assign a place over at Karen’s table where the “happenings” could be ….. shhh….on that nite….yup on that nite….

    Hi Karen,
We shall hang loose together; to stay bling bling or “quai quai” ….oops ….watch out for those TowKays…hor…

    Cheers,
    Grace

  244. Grace has spoken so she stays at my table. I had asked her to join my table earlier cos I noticed at some private event, she was very buddy with someone at my table.

Now Judy, please state where you’d like to be. No need to feel obligated, just be comfortable.

If Judy decides to stay with Andrew, then Karen, please look for another person to fill up your table.

Lilian Teo, I have included you in June Lim’s table. Know you are buddies too from Batam trip. That will close Bira’s table of 6.

Ronald Wie, could you please do me a favour. you have two extra seats at your table, and the table next to you is wierd, having only 2 seats. Could you help me move two chairs over to that table that night. I will do so myself if I am not tied down by Registration. I would like to seat Hamidah, Catherine Koh, Angela and Zariah at this places. Hope you all are happy with my arrangement.

Ronald, you had mentioned about scouting for talent so here’s your chance to see if you can draw up some contracts with the two singers, Hamidah and Catherine. Goodluck to you and Chin Boon.

For the rest who have not indicated, I shall seat the old and new members (some I do not know and have not met) together so that they will not feel left out and uneasy.

Once these loose ends ae tied up, I will announce all your table nos.

    Have a good day everyone!

  245. Jane Wong #311
Hey woman, I scrolled up and down and couldn’t find your name anywhere. Why aren’t you participating??
You would look ravishing in a qi pao as Suzie Wong leh, especially with your loooong hair.
Oh, don’t worry about me ‘entertaining’ Terence. I won’t be doing the kind of entertainment that the mamasans and hostesses wil be doing. I will be there to drive him up the wall, hahaha. Oh, I better remember to get myself a large fan, ;-).

  246. Terence

Please check if Richard and Jane Kee (57 and 58), Chin Boon (99) and Zariah (74) have paid. If they have not, I have to take their names out from their tables to be fair to others who have paid. Thanks.

  247. Hi Oi Cheng,

    #320, Thks for the arrangement.
Hi June, glad to meet with you again.

Oi Cheng, can take 1 more seat for Susan Tan Soek Wah ?

Susan Tan Soek Wah, what say you ?

    Regards,

  248. Haha, finally I am able to acess this website & noted so many comment with regards to my sitting arrange.

First of all,I would like to say to my dear friend – Mary Chan, let me clarify that I am not as “laku” as you lah. Regardsing my sitting arrangment is due to some communication issues.

    Oi Cheng,

Pls be informed that I have no obligation to sit at any table available, as long as i can enjoy the event for the Cabret night and can meke me remember the good times I had during our younger days.

    Andrew & Karen,

Appreciate your kindness and effort to offer me to sit with you and I apolosize if anyone of you are offended with regards to this matter

Lastly, I wish every one of us could enjoy the night & forget about any dispute among us.

    Cheers

    Judy

  249. Dear Mary,

ya Suzie Wong didnt join maybe next time la (if still have, haha). I think u must wear cheong sum so that it will go along more charming with the big fan….and the fan better have feather on it… hehehe

    Jane

  250. Hi! Oi Cheng,

As mentioned, I have no obligation with my sitting arrangement. Appreciation your kindness to let me have a chance to choose & frankly speaking, I don’t really feel comfortable to any table. hihi…

    Thank you.

    Judy

  251. Yes MaryChan..get the big fan with the feathers and tua tau kay will go ahchooo ahchoo..:-)))

13dot will “kau sua” the bouncer….sorry Dolly…so u dont come scratch me ok…Terence says “no one makes fun, insult or upset” or scratch “fellow male or female SHCians”…:-))

13dot is thinking of bringing this big umbrella into the niteclub…the green color one with waxed paper…anyone knows where to get it? :-))

Platform shoes is a must…but where to get? Or can 13dot wear “char kiak” into the club? White net stockings with red char kiak…yea, that fits 13dot to a T!!! :-))

  252. Hi Oi Cheng,

Am ok with your table arrangements as long the table is near the stage. No worries we will sort it out and I am sure Chin Boon and me will get our due royalties from interested singers who want to be signed up by Sound Handling Company.

Also on the same note in order to ensure SHC (Sound Handling Company) singers performed to our recording standars, our Sound Engineer cum Talent Scout Mr Chin Boon will bring the necessary sound equipment as deemed necessary.

    Cheers

  253. Terence Seah,

Thanks for giving me this opportunity as a stage manager and including me in the contacts. I will do my best. As for the new names I had came out a list of it but I will try to change it into Chinese version for the team for confirmation.

    Jway CH,

Thanks for giving me such a “good” name.

    Geraldine, Honey

I am so touched. I will email to you guys shortly on the Chinese name. Hope you can guide me on the day.Give me a call when you back.

  256. Hi Thomas Loh @ #336

It was I, not Jway, who put in the titles of those at our table. Sorry if I have offended anyone. I thought it would be fun to give each of us a make-believe role. I should have been more sensitive. My sincerest apology.

    Regards / Lily

  257. Dear Oi Cheng & Terence

Please register me for this event. I will joing Catherine Koh’s table together with Helen Kuek.

Will make payment to Terence’s account.

    Thanks & Regards
    Helen

  258. Hello Terence,

I must apologize for my belated reply.

My whole computer system went ‘kaput’ recently and for sometime I was not following SHCs events. Only got to read the postings yesterday evening. Oh boy! looks like the party has already begun – moving fast and everyone seems gearing up for action.

Not surprising though, it’s a ‘sold out’ nite. Terence, this augurs well and a good sign. I am sure business will be good on your opening nite.

So if there’s anyone giving up his/her ticket, I’ll be glad to take it and join the fun. Btw, who’s cutting the ribbon (if any).

    Regards,

    Pat Chan

  259. Hi Oi Cheng,

No problem, trouble you to arrange for Seok Wah and myself, whatever at your best allocation. Do understand your difficulties, much appreciated.

    Cheers
    Lilian

  260. Hi Oi Cheng #320

Pls refer to my posting #222 dd 3/12 extracted below reserving 1 table for 4ppl and also Cat Koh posting #300 dd 12/12 on our payments. Hope you can accede to my original seating request.

    “Hi Terence

Would like to reserve 1 table for 4 ppl ie myself, Catherine Koh (Singer), Helen Kuek and Angela Straatan.

Catherine Koh will tramsfer payment to your account soon.

    Tks
    Hamidah”

I do not mind if Helen Wong wants to join my table provided enough space to add in one more chair. I leave to your discretion to decide. Tks Oi Cheng for planning the seating arrangement for this event.

    Cheers
    Hamidah

  261. Attendance update on nightclub opening:
All 100 participants to the Grand nightclub opening night have paid for this event. Registration is closed. All seating arrangements shall now be handled by Oi Cheng, Eileen Thean and their team of urshers.

Our nightclub singers had their rehearsals tonight at 8degree from 5 pm to 7pm. The singing was beautiful, the songs nostlagic and the singers were all excited to give us a wonderful performance. Lining the stars is led by Lily Ho.

  262. Hi Geraldine Ting,

Hope you can make it to the cabaret with so much of excitement and suspense in time.

Now having a relaxing time in K.L. in my eldest
    brother’s home.

  263. Hi Ronald Wie,

I thought that the Chin Boon I know of was once an accounts manager but now his hidden talent was in music.

Are there 2 Chin Boons after all ?

  264. Both Jeffrey and Geraldine, co-owners of the nightclub have been very busy planning the opening night. They are taking all steps necessary to ensure that their VIP guests and regular patrons enjoy the new look.

Having put in a lot of money to refurbish the nightclub, the owners are looking out for a name to reflect the stature of its customers. Let’s wait for Jeffrey and Geraldine to come up with a new name.

Hi all male patrons, you are advised to dress to fit the rich 60s and 70s. Long sleeve shirts with suspenders would be appropriate. You are invited to test your imagination.

    Terence Seah

  271. Hi Sweet Nor,

You are still young……….next trip, we’ll disco.

Miss your sparkling sandals; want to stroke them. Kekekekee.

    Hi Ah Nee,

    How are you?

    Hi Hamidah,

Am anxiously waiting to meet you and the rest of the ‘nightclub family’ that I have yet to meet.

Our ‘customers’ and patrons will have a good time with our high standards. Nothing sleazy.

We ARE showbiz and entertainment………let’s partee!

  272. Hi Geraldine Ting (HK)

Me too looking fwd to meet the beautiful lady, Niteclub owner & my employer hee..hee. Bet we sure have a good time that nite. 1 more mth to go.

    Hamidah

  273. Hello swee swee Geraldine,

I see you always in your hipp & sexy Ts and Jeans, will you be wearing your cheongsam like Suszie Wong, Wow!……hehehe

    Ah Nee

  274. Hi Hamidah,

I am not your or anyone’s employer; just your ‘beautiful’ co-owner, kokokoko…. fortunate to be given this make-believe role to have a great time with you and the rest……counting the seconds!!

    Hi Ah Nee,

I may have to disappoint you – no Suzie Wong; just plain old Miss Ting in p-jays in the event that I can’t squeeze into the dress (busy stuffing my face with chocolates lately). Kekekekeee.

By the way, my youngest baby reminded me to put on MAKEUP on the big night, otherwise I would NOT SUIT the dress (she loves the dress) and scare everyone away. Kakakakaaa…..she is so honest and adorable!

Can’t wait to meet the gang again and many more.

  275. I attended the rehearsal at 8 degree last Sat. Although you may not be present, I can share that all the singers will give an excellent performance. It is not easy to sing live, but they will be able to bring memories of yesterday to the evening event.

Lily Ho, professional and strict as always, has been lining up the singing slots so that all businessmen, patrons and hostesses can enjoy continuuous non-stop dancing throughout the night. Lily is organising another rehearsal closer the date.

Adding to the list of professional female singers, we will also have Ronnie Sow to bring in the male voice. All songs are in Chinese, dialects accepted. And, if you like to hear some of these songs, log in this Saturday evening. Read http://silverhairsclub.com/?p=2784#comment-51636.

    Terence Seah

  276. Good morning Terence,

I met James Chan yesterday at the SGCC Tea Dance, he said that he have heard so much about the Cabaret night and would like to join in the FUN. He is so enthuse about this event, would you be able to accept one more patron? James C is very good in danzing….ooops…it will be “lumsing” that night, hehehe….. :)

    Ah Nee

  277. Dear Friends,

My apologies for giving you all undue worry with regards to my posting.

I appreciate very much the love and concern showered by my great friends in SHC. The understanding and patience with my temperament are greatly appreciated.

Sometimes when the going gets tough, I dont know how to handle and I crumble. And I appreciate very much the outstretched arms of my fellow SHCians to make sure I stand up again and move on.

Owe you one, guys. You know who you are.

I am ready and looking forward to a fun time at the Cabaret.

    Thanks very much again.

    Luv you all
    Carly

  278. Dear Caroline,

It’s good to have you back!!

Am glad that you are fine now. Please bring your feather on that night; need to be caressed. Kekekekee.

    Miss you,

  279. My Dear Geraldine

Thanks to you and my other dear friends and I am glad to be back.

I will bring the feathers and you dont forget your whip!

Miss you too but it will be see you soon :)

    Luv
    Caroline

  280. Hi Caroline Gee,

It was so GOOD to read yr posting @ 372 that you are well.

Now we can look forward to your professional singing as well as acting on stage.

  281. Hi Steven

    Welcome back.

Thanks very much. Yes I am looking forward to having a great time with you guys.

Can’t stay down for too long when you have so many caring people around you. Just keeping my fingers crossed that nothing will come in my way to stop me from enjoying the big day on Cabaret Nite.

    Caroline

  282. Hi Ah Nee #370,

Nice of you to raise the possibility of taking more participants to the nightclub. I know there are others like Rosalind Lee who would also like to come.

Although the venue can accommodate more people, the concern is whether they can get a comfortable seat. We will put the names down, and revert after consultation with the registration team.

    Terence Seah

  283. Hi StevenC,

I may be a bit late in asking, as I guess you are back from KL. Thought you can get it from KL. But, can I ask you to source for some really red ribbons and make two flower balls out of it. You know the type they use for “cutting the ribbons during opening ceromonies”. On that day, you can put it on the stage, and our co-owners can then be invited to stage to cut the ribbons and give their opening speech. Think this will be authentic. Next time, when we can afford it, we will have a lion dance.

And, besides the singing, we will have a 10 mins joke and story, performed by one of our SHC members. It promises to be fun, a mix of Chinese dialects and adults only. The name will be revealed a day before the event. Let;s see if this person can keep his/her name a secret until then.

Meantime, the script writer is thinking how to make the dance floor more exciting.

    Terence Seah

  284. Hi Terence ,

    ….What ?
Source for some really red ribbons and make two flower balls out of it.

Sorry I am not able to accede to your request.
May I suggest that you ask some of our trained members who have attended courses in community centre in flower making or origami to help out.

Perhaps there are some of them in SHC whose hidden talents in hand crafting have not been known yet and hopefully they were answer to your call.

  285. Terence,

Steven haven’t response to you yet, don’t know if it’s a hassle for him to do it? I learned the skill of making the “opening ceremony” ribbons from my florist sister many years ago. I have plenty of ribbons and it’s my pleasure to make the two flower balls for the cabaret night “opening ceremony” if you don’t mind. I will make the two flower balls (12 inches in diameter). I will also bring along a pair of brand new scissor tie with ribbon and place it on a nice plate. RED ribbon wow! How about Silver colour (SilverhairsClub), just thinking……. ;)

Steven, would like to hear from you first, just in case you have something in mind. It’s is ok also if you want to do it. :)

    Ah Nee

  286. Hi Ah Nee,

    You really “soong fong yee”.
    V. EFFICIENT lah! Almost instantaneously you responded. :)

See Terence, one of your problems solved.

Many thanks Ah Nee to your hidden talents and we are looking forward to your proffessional red or should we make it an exception silver ribbon balls ???

    Pls. liase with Terence kor.

    Any comments pls ?

  287. AhNee/Hamidah…
Ya lah..last time young & ‘naive’..donno how to look out for rich towkay…finally got one ..still my chauffeur till now…also bagus tau!

haha you are such a dear, as usual.

OK I will yell, scream, shout when I need help, and I will use my binoculars to see you running to my place.

OK we will do it after the cabaret nite when we dont have to squeeze into that corset heee!

Eh your Ahmad is also one in a million hor. Rare gem lah so treasure him.

    Carly

  289. Hi Terence,

Regret I am unable to attend. Please release my seat to someone who is interested.

To all those of you who are participating, have a fun evening.

  290. WILL SINGER DOREEN LAU PLEASE KINDLY RESPOND TO MY EMAIL?

The other singers are waiting for me to arrange the sequence. I need to know if you are still in or out?

  291. Hi Lily,
    (reply to #389)
Tks n your diligent hard works are greatly appreciated.
fyi: I just managed to get my password reset n am now able to log-in.
I am pleased to sing the 2 hokkien songs:

  292. Hi Terence,

Sorry to inform you that I have to withdraw from the post of Cabaret Hostess as I am still nursing from an injury of a fractured ankle. Doctor advice not to exert my foot for the time being.

Xiang Xiang and I will participate as a patron only.

    Thanks and regards,
    jenniferlim

  293. Hi Terrence,,

May I ask, what will be provided by way of F & B? Many members are in the dark about this. Will members be allowed to bring their own booze?

    Regards

    Richard

  294. Hi RichardK #394,

Forgotten you are a boozee. I have been quite good, staying away from beer and hard liquor for the last one year. Broke the rules these holidays by having 100 mil of beer on three nights.

thanks for the reminder. I shall provide info sometime tonight.

    Terence Seah

  295. Hi Terence,

2 members in my group have to opt out of cabaret nite due to unforeseen circumstances and hope that members on the waiting list who are still keen to take over these 2 tickets kindly give their indication.

    Thanks
    Janet Chan

  296. Hi Terrence,

I drink very moderately and enjoy having a couple of drinks with good company. However, I am certainly not a BOOZEE, lest some people get the wrong impression.

Many members are in the dark about the Cabaret Night & would need more info, otherwise there’ll be confusion & misunderstanding at the event. Looking forward to hearing from u.

    Tks.

    Richard

  297. Richard-K, it was nice to see you doing the slow walkz with Jane at Kovan and no doubt you werent drinking.

But even if in a high mood you did, I cd see that you were still very much in control of yourself, evident from Jane’s continuing her dancing, and you squatting in a quiet corner, picking yr nose or sucking yr thumb thumb….best, alternating btwn the 2.

Seriously, I hope nobody attending the Cabaret will rersally take it for granted that that singers and hostess are really there to be picked up and that the “Jaswant Singh” is really a Sikh from Durban wearing a turban.

  298. Hi RichardK and all participants to the Cabaret nite,

Now that the Christmas and New Year celebrations are almost over, it’s time to get excited about our cabaret nite.

    1. The name of our relaunch Cabaret and nightclub has been released by our co-owners Jeffrey Lim and Geraldine Ting. The name shall be released in a separate comment.

    2. Now on drinks for that night. We have agreed with the 8th degree operator as follows:

    * 1 30 litre barrel of beer – to be distributed as jars to all tables.

    * 10 bottle of red wine – again, these will be placed on each table.

    * Free flow of coffee, tea, honey, fruit punch, soft drinks eg coke, lemon tea and sprite.

    * peanuts and mixed nuts.

If you need food, this is available at the restaurant on the same floor. You pay directly to the cashier.

Outside drinks are not allowed; meaning you cannot bring your own wine, hard liquor, soft liquor, etc.

Once the beer and the red wine are finished, you may order these drinks off the regularly menu. A 20% discount will be given. Payment to the cashier upon delivery to your table.

So much to be said about drinks.

    Terence Seah

  299. Jeffrey Lim and Geraldine Ting, both co-owners of SHC Majestic International Cabaret and Nightclub have decided to re-launch their nightclub on Sunday 17 Jan 2010.

The new name for the nightclub is ***Shanghai Castle Nightclub***

    ? ? ? ? ???
    shàng h?i b?o lwei3 nightclub

Thank you very much Jeff and Geraldine. Let’s take this opportunity to wish Jeffrey and Geraldine all success in the newly relaunch nightclub.

    Terence Seah

  300. Hi Rosalind Lee and JamesChan,

Your names have been added to replace Gingko Tay #64 and Jennifer Lim #15. You may have made payment, but please acknowledge here.

    Terence Seah

  301. Terence

Note no. of persons to each table varies. While some can accomodate as many as 12, some only 5 or 6.
Currently, we have 13 tables, including the sides, so you may need to rethink the distribution of wine on the tables -eg, 2 small tables share a bottle of wine/jug of beer, etc.

This can be decided nearer the date though.

  302. #401 Terence Seah,

Terence, I regret I’ll not be able to make it for the Cabaret Nite as I’ll be leaving for Manila the following day, Monday. As my flight’s an early morning flight I need to go to bed early.

    My apologies
    Ros

  303. Hi JamesT and SHCians planning to take photographs at the Cabaret night,

As a guideline, photography and videos are only allowed at the registration area and of the singers on stage.

Photography is not allowed in all other places, except when requested by the photographed.

While this is a theme event, we take this event as an opportunity to get to know each other and also an occasion to relive some of the good old days. Do enjoy the good old singing, and the memories set during the 60s and 70s.

Again, while this event may have a fun cabaret theme, and that we are all SHCians, I wont set any rules, except that we should all respect the requests of all lady partipants.

I dont think there will be any concerns of over-drinking, as beers and red wines are limited. Have fun.

And, if this event works, we will have plenty more.

    Terene Seah

  304. Hi Terence

James Chan already paid via ATM transfer 3 weeks ago. Ref. No. already smsed to you the very same day.

Ben Foo paid cash to me 2 weeks ago witnessed by Oi Cheng and Molly. I thought Oi Cheng informed you no? Will pass the cash to you when I see you at the 2nd rehearsal.

  305. Hi Terence,

#401- As my friend, Jennifer Lim is currently overseas, I’m clarifying your comments on her behalf. Please refer to #393, Jennifer stated that she was withdrawing from the role of hostess due to her fractured ankle and not pulling out completely. However, she and Xiang2 will join in the event as patrons only. Kindly reinstate her.

    Thanks!

    Veronique

  306. “The new name for the nightclub is ***Shanghai Castle Nightclub*** ? ? ? ? ??? shàng h?i b?o lwei3 nightclub”

Clearly, patrons, hostesses, singers, papasans, mamasans and even marmosets are all set and fired up for this mammoth event. So “fire” must be the key element here, likewise it shd be in the name of this pretigious nite club.

And so, the “?” should have fire burning brightly, not just atop earth and so close to the ground to remind, morbidly if you like, of everything underground………

And so, replace the “tu” or “earth” with glorious “huo” or fire and better still cast the castle ?(why castle which has limits and bounds?)to the ca-chng and hey presto, you get the perfect name.

And then, while theey created Bejing yuck (duck), we have Shanghai bau.

    Hehe………

  307. Hi to all the men attending the Jan 17 Cabaret nightclub event,

  311. Today, we feature Hamidah, who will be singing for us during the opening of Shanghai Castle nightclub. Thanks to Oi Cheng, we like to present you our singing star.

“Hamidah’s passion for dancing dates back to secondary school days, but due to a strict family upbringing, she could not pursue her dream to become a dancer.

After she got married, she signed up for social dance classes. As there was always a shortage of dancing partners, she soon turned to linedancing in year 2001. She was later sponsored by the RC to take the theory and practical exams under Professional Association Of Linedancers to qualify her as a linedance Trainer. She has since 2003, been teaching linedancing and often gets invited by CC and Organisations to perform at their functions.

She taught a group of SHCians a couple of linedances and performed together with them during the Dinner and Dance in 2008. Occasionally, she would also lead the linedancers at SHC events. She is passionate, dedicated and patient.

Besides dancing, Hamidah also loves to sing. She can sing in English, Malay, Mandarin, Hokien, Cantonese, Spanish, Japanese, Tagalog and even Hindustani.

She will be singing 3 chinese songs in our coming “Cabaret” event.”

We look forward to hear you on Jan 17. Thank you for your support too.

  312. The final rehearsal for the singing segment of Shanghai Castle nightclub opening will be this Saturday at 8th degree.

So, get your dancing shoes, 60s/70s wear ready.

Do note that the cabaret is pretty dark, and you may not be able to see each other well. The dance floor is big, while the stage is small and cosy enough for the singer, music equipment, stage manager and VJ/musician.

When you come to the nightclub, please look for sweet Eileen Thean and Oi Cheng at the registration desk. The pretty urshers are Veronique Lee, Ann Lim and Rene Leong. They will lead you to your table, likely will be using a torchlight so that you don’t fall down along the way.

As I have come to know, the ladies are all in the 60s/70s dresses and there to kill.

    Do enjoy the evening.

    Terence Seah

  313. hello terence
had transfer $25/= this morning ref. 8522 pls check & cfm receipt.
thank you and looking forward to a night of fun.

  314. Shanghai Castle night re-opening schedule is being finalised. We will finalise all participants by this weekend and their seating arrangements.

The event proper starts at 7pm, although you can come in earlier. By this Saturday, we would be able to time schedule all the lovely and memorable songs, sung by SHC own talents. Hopefully, over the coming years, we can hear more from them.

There will be a ribbon cutting opening, followed by a repertoire of 60s/70s songs, accompanied by non-stop dancing. Everybody at the tables can enjoy practising the 5/10/15 hand game, with the losers having to take a sip of their drink.

Our bouncer Sam in his black jacket will be at the lift (this one is modern lah). He will assess you from top to bottom, and if you look rich, I think he will let you in. If not, he will point you to the registration table.

We have a few lovely urshers – Veronique, Ann and Rene. They will torch-light guide you to your table. Dont forget a $2 tip will be great. Simple hold her hand, and close her hand. A $1 coin will do too. Or whatever currency you are used to. Escorted ladies are not expected to give tips; although business ladies are expected to. Men, must lah.

Today, i shall introduce Susan Chan, some members call her onlysue or dimple sue. Well, she is our mamasan for the night. She has a few hostesses under her wings. What I can say is Susan is very supportive of SHC events, and she will go all the way out to encourage fellow SHCians to join in. For this cabaret and for this role, she encourages her hostesses or team mates to enjoy their role, besides all the “How to?” and “What to do?” ideas. Altho this event may be role play acting, Susan strives to make the event as real as possible. Thank you Susan.

Like in many cabarets and nightclubs, there are no group games. The evening is open to everyone to dance, chat, drink, dream, get drunk, play drinking games and get to know one another. Feel free to mingle, even though you have your seats. You can sit close together as there are only sofas, no chairs.

We will have a talk cock story item; I haven’t seen or heard it. But I think it will be dirty and hilarious. Definitely, not from me. Dont think it is in English. Be prepared or let me know as I may have to give you a pair of ear-plugs.

Next week, I shall announce a dancing item. So, remember your ticket numbers. Have fun.

    Terence Seah

  315. Shanghai Castle Nightclub will be opening next week….hmmm it takes us down memory lane with its live band and singers entertain with their wide repertoire of mandarin songs of yesteryears……

Two big ribbon balls (red & sliver combination) for the opening ceremony of Shanghai Castle nightclub will be ready by this weekend. Nightclub Bosses, Geraldine & Jeffrey, also EO Terence aren’t you all excited about cutting the ribbons…….

To all the “towkays” out there, so much has been said about the cabaret night….if you are fascinated or impressed by the Singers/Hostresses/Mamasan and wanting to reward her, please come to me to get a bouquet of flowers….ya, I will be at your service. SAY IT WITH FLOWERS :)

    Ah Nee

  316. Hi Ah Nee #424,

You beat me to talking about the Flower girl.

Men are just nice human people. They see a singer on stage, listen to her songs, and can just help falling in love with her. Her songs are just so meaningful and memorable. Would love to hear her sing over and over again.

Our nightclub has an official Flower girl. She is Ah Nee. She will come around your table, and you can buy a bouquet of flowers from her. You can then give the flower personally to the singer or you can sweet talk Ah Nee to send it to the singer on your behalf. This is a nice way of saying to the singer that you love her songs.

If you have never been to a nightclub, and you feel that the songs are out of this world, well it’s a good chance to send some flowers to the singer.

    Have fun!

    Terence Seah

  317. Dear Ah Nee,

That’s good marketing strategy you’ve in promoting your range of fresh, good quality flowers from ‘Ah Nee’s Floral Shop’. Am sure your business will be brisk on that evening, and you’re the only Flower Girl that the towkays/ businessmen can rely on. The ‘Mamasan and her hostesses’ appreciate your kind gesture in this aspect.

As the saying goes…When words escape, Flowers SPEAK!

    Cheers!

  318. Hi Ah Nee,

So kind and sweet of you to make the ribbon balls.

Please do not forget to bring the scissors – imagine. Kekekekee.

See you real soon, Flower Girl.

  319. Hi Terrence

Much appreciate if you could register me as a patron.
I’m a newbie so of course missed out earlier regn.
During my younger days I recall ” going” to New World Cabaret, Great World cabaret. During those days it costs $1 for 3 dances with the hostess. Those were the days….

So I hope to join in this memorable occasion.

    Thanks

  320. HAHAHAHAAA. Miss Low, I did think of using teeth and have to make sure the dentures are sharp and don’t fall out. Imagine them stuck to the ribbon. Kakakakakaa……….

  321. We have closed the number of pax, taking into consideration some who are unable to come because of last minute circumstances. Some of you have requested me to stop taking in more people, to ensure a more balance boy:girl ratio. I will try; but not easy.

I am now closing the number of pax; changes may be allowed if someone withdraws. Thank you all for the participation and support. See you next Sunday.

    Terence Seah

  322. Swee swee Geraldine & Ivy,

I was looking high and low for a pair of Golden scissor which I think I have, but don’t know where is it now, too many rubbish in the storeroom. Maybe I get a Silver one and tie red & silver ribbons to it. Gosh…how to bring the 2 big ribbon balls to the nightclub…..am worry the balls might get flatten….hahaha…… :)

    Ah Nee

  323. Ah Nee, don’t open the balls until you get to the nightclub, cause after you open them you have to hang them straight away, otherwise will get out of shape.

    TGIF
    eileen

  324. I am almost all ready for the nite…black net stockings, “hiao hiao” top etc. :-) jus missing the mini black skirt.

And I dont want to miss the cut ribbon ceremony…so what time is it?…0708 pm or 0718 or 0728 or 0738 or 0748 …guess the 7058 is out?

  325. Hey! Eileen Thean, you know how to make too. In that case, I have to go early lor….but, I think better not take the risk leh, “sekali” “kenah” caught in the traffic jam, then how? Just thinking, maybe I can hang the 2 ribbon balls at the back of the car’s windows. hehehe…so funny.

    Ah Nee

  326. Ah Nee,

Just bring the finish ribbons, opening the balls takes 5 mins, I can help you on that, anyway I will be there early with Oi Cheng to man the registeration counter.

    eileen

  327. Hi Ah Nee,

We will need 2 pairs of scissors (hope you don’t mind) since there are 2 balls to cut. Silver would be nice with your idea of silver and red ribbons on them.

Do you have a silver tray? If not, I will try to get one from here and bring it over.

Now that Eileen has kindly offered to help, please don’t hang the big balls at the back of the car windows swaying and banging all the way to the nightclub. Kekekekee.

  328. Geraldine & Eileen,

We need 2 pairs of scissors, should be of the same kind and colour, like a pair of twin. Unless Eileen have 2 of the half gold & half silver scissors, if not I will bring 2 pairs of red handle scissors.

Geraldine, I think Norlina should have plenty of nice plates / trays, thot of asking her but if you have something in mind, then you bring lah.

Ok, since Eileen can help me, both of us will made the ribbon balls “swee swee”, ready for the cutting of ribbon ceremony, wow! what time will that be huh? :)

    Ah Nee

  329. Todate, we have 103 pax to the Shanghai Castle nightclub theme event.

Please note we cannot bring in our own wines or aloohol. Once the beers and wines are finished, you may place orders with the waitress there.

There is also no finger foood, except if you order. You need to pay as the food arrives.

    Terence Seah

  330. Participants to the Shanghai Castle nightclub are to note that I have invited the media to join us for the evening theme event. They are likely to take some pictures and perhaps talk with a few participants.

Changing rooms: There are four areas where you can transform yourself.

    1. Singers room – The singers require to change quickly and be ready to be on stage. As we have 3 singing sets throughout the night, singers, please use this room so that Lily Ho knows where to find you in case your zip gets stuck or you need a little touch-up on the hair. Our co-owner Geraldine will use this room too.

    2. Hostesses/Helpers – Please use this room. You are likely to come in early and see that you look lovely, before transforming yourself into your hi-slit cheongsam dresses. Registration and urshers can use this room to check their high heels are still in good shape, and look good before the patrons and businessmen come in.

    3. The ladies toilet – this is large, and patrons can use this room. A nice place to shift your waist skirts and add a little shine to your eyes, noses and mouths.

    4. The men’s toilet – this is also huge. I think you can play cat & mouse inside. But for men only. Try adjusting your hat and suspenders here. You may need some hair sprays to keep your hair curled up.

Not only me, but I think every role player and paticipant are going wild over this event. Just have fun while role-playing.

    Terence Seah

  331. The nightclub theme event is one of the many monthly events that we have. Here, we intend to bring back some good memories, some fun and really good singing of the 60s and 70s.

On the issue of tips, the nightclub scene, anywhere in the world, does not prescribe any standard tips. It is really up to the individual. If you like the service, you pay a little more. If you dont like the service, you dont have to pay. If you give too little, the news will spread, and no one will come to your table.

What I like to say is all tips are to be kept by the role player. There is no need to divide and share. You may get in rupees, in RM or in Singapore dollars. Do not give to the club as there is no necessity. It is all for fun and role play. As a guide, I think a min of $2 is great. Any thing over, I leave it to you. I dont need to know.

    Gee, such great fun.

    Terence Seah

  332. Janet Chan has always loved singing. She’s bubbly, hyperactive and an adventurous lady. She participated in last years “Stars-in-Concert”. Indeed, Janet is a great singing talent with a good voice; loves English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Hokkien songs especially old time favourites and evergreens. SHC is glad to have her as a very supportive member. Besides singing, Janet loves bowling and karaoke. She definitely enjoys cycling, trekking, dancing and travelling. Always cheerful towards others. A contribution from Boon Liang.

She would be singing 6 songs live:
    (1) ??? (Rumba)
    (2) ?????? (Trot)
    (3) ?????? (Tango)
    (4) ??????? (Cha-Cha)

Janet will bring back the true memories of the 60s and 70s.

  335. Thanks Lily and all singers. I am sure the audience will enjoy the good old memories you will bring us during the evening. This is a lot of effort on your part, and we can look forward to more such activties.

I wish everybody will enjoy the evening.

    Terence Seah

  336. Wow! Terence, your postings #446 and #447 really got me geared up for this Sunday’s Shanghai Cabaret Night. Your cabaret logistic and very down to earth interesting description of the behind the scene has already painted a vivid picture in my mind.

The only cabaret night life that I experienced was about a year ago in KL with some of SHC members. Though the songs were in Chinese, I enjoyed the ambiance – the very Chinese seventies nightclub décor, customers buying garlands for the singers, elegantly simmering gowns worn by the singers and the patrons doing jive, cha cha and lumsing.

Yep, I’m sooo looking forward to this Sunday’s Shanghai night and hope my role will live up to it’s expectation.

See you ladies and guys this coming Sunday. Ya.

    Cheers
    Agnes

  337. For the night of the cabaret night opening, please note that only Boon Liang is appointed official videographer for the singers.

However, the best part is he will start learning how to use the video cam in the next few days. So, it is likely his videos may look shaky or cut off at certain parts.

Have fun taking the videos BL.

    Terence Seah

  338. Hi Terence,

Due to church commitments, unable to attend.

Kindly delete my name (No. 27) from the list and replaced Anne Chee instead. Anne Chee will take over my place (ticket not issued, K092).

    Thanks.

  339. Hi Terence,

Sorry for the last minute confusion here.

I have sold my ticket to Catherine Ho as of yesterday.

Kindly amend pls and sorry once again for the inconvenience caused.

    Regards

  340. Hi Eileen #454,

Your non-attendance noted. There is no need to replace your seat. We will maintain the original pax. Your ticket number will be replaced with James Chan.

    Terence Seah

  341. For the nightclub, please note that only registered names in the list will be admitted. Those whose names are not in the list will unfortunately not be admitted.

    Registration is closed.

    Terence Seah

  342. Phew! All seating have been finalised and sent for printing. Registration List is drawn up and printed.

As Terence@457 has said, only registered names in the list will be admitted, Eileen and myself shall go strictly by this List.

Any gate crasher or will be handed over to the Bouncers. Wow! so exciting!

  343. Role of the Flower girl: Most nightclubs and carbarets generally do have a system whereby businessmen, patrons and secret admirers express their appreciation to the singers for either good singing or touching their hearts with songs.

At Shanghai Castle nightclub, Ah Nee plays the role cast of a Flower girl. She will come round your table, and if you wish to express your appreciation to a singer, you can buy a garland or a stalk from her. She will let you know how much it cost. Either ask her to deliver the flower to the singer, or you can deliver it yourself. If you do deliver the flower to her on stage, do not distract the singing or she might not be very pleased with you.

Ah Nee has also made and donated the ribbons for the opening event. Thank you Ah Nee.

    Terence Seah

  344. Enjoying yourself at a cabaret or nightclub. As you would have noticed, I have refrained from telling you what to do at a nightclub. Reason why is because the activities in a nightclub are considered understood.

You can drink, chat, sit, play 5/10/15 hand game, chat and chat. And, if you are active, speak with Susan Chan (our mamasan) for the evening. She is on duty this Syunday 17 Jan. Men can speak with Susan for a hostess to sit with them to drink and to chat. Men can also dance with the hostess.

Ladies are allowed to dance with another lady; men are not allowed to dance with another man. Men who are shy may ask the hostess to guide you on the dance floor; but you cannot stay too long on the dance floor if you are not famiiar with her or have not tipped her sufficiently. We have 100 guests on opening night; and the hostesses are busy.

If you are unhappy with the services, you may speak with the mamasan. Susan, please give us some guidelines. Of course, if you are unhappy witht the management, you may speak with the club owners.

The owners of Shanghai Castle nightclub would like to welcome rich towkays, businessmen and their associates to the nightclub; and good behaviour is desired. Pleae keep your cheers, games and drinking noise to within your table; and not spill any noise over to another table, making other patrons angry.

Do enjoy the memorable songs of yester-years, and dance the night away. Remember the most popular dance those days is Lamsing.

    Terence Seah

  345. Dear Members,

Further to those points raised by Terence #462, allow me to highlight that should any businessmen be unhappy with the services of my hostesses, please do speak with me first, and I will try to accomodate your request with the exchange of another hostess, but do REFRAIN from ‘shooing’ her away from your seat! By doing so, that would be very discourteous on your part, as male gallantry should always be practised! Likewise, my dear hostesses, should anyone of you feel that you’re entertaining someone who is totally disrespectful (hands of an ‘octopus’ etc.), do approach me first before you give him that ‘tight slap’, as we wouldn’t want to create that kind of unfavourable atmosphere. I will then tactfully deal with ‘that Octopus’ without having to call in the Bouncer, if necessary!

As Mamasan for the night, myself & my bevy of hostesses shall endeavour to entertain the best we can, and seek the understanding & patience from all Businessmen/Tycoons, where time slots/tips are concerned. Given the limited number of hostesses, inclusive of some voluntary part-timers, the Mamasan has the discretion to assign her hostess to a table once a deal is negotiated & agreed upon, hence, no hassling should ensue!

Having defined above, lets all join hands to create a warm atmosphere of fun & entertainment at Silverhairs Castle Niteclub coming Sunday, to kick-start a memorable event for Y2010!

  346. Hi Sue Chan @ 463,

I couldn’t help laughing aloud when you use the term ” OCTOPUS ” to describe some of us as Dirty Old Men.

So guys, as in Canto lingo , no ” More Sun More Sial “

  347. Wow…with Terence & Sue Chan’s update on the Shanghai Castle nightclub, think I have to inform my “towkay” about it ……. ;)

Terence…..can you decide what should I do with the fund collected. I suggest it goes to the Singers whom they deserve or goes to Charity or for SHC future events ????

For info, those flowers are compliments from my sister’s florist shop. :)

    Ah Nee

  348. Terence and all,

I’m surprised ladies outnumbered men 7:3. But I hope
we men can still patronise Sue Chan and her team of
    beautiful hostesses.

Also, let’s make this a nite of clean fun for all and treat
the hostesses & all ladies with due respect.

    james

  349. Hi Terence,

I read with int on Ah Nee’s post @ 465.

Would you consider having a “mini fund raising” event or equivalent on Sunday night for the victims of Haiti’s recent earthquake?

I would like to thank all participating role players, helpers (in all ways) and most of all, the organiser for putting together this event. A big thank you also goes to Ah Nee’s sister for donating the flowers.

Looking forward to this Shanghai Castle night…

  350. Hi Anne @ #467

If I do get admirers for my singing, I would gladly donate the money I get from the “diao hua” for this Haiti Fund.

    Cheers
    Caroline Gee

  351. Hi Sue #463 & Steven #464

If “OCTOPUS” for dirty old men then what is the term to use for the cleaner old men, Prawn/Sotong??? hee..hee.

Cu all this Sun…I’m sure we will have great fun dat nite with our various role play.

  352. When you arrive at Shanghai Castle nightclub, and you go up the lift, you will first see the registration table. Please ask for Eileen Thean and Oi Cheng.

After you have your name checked against the list, the urshers Veronique Lee, Ann Lim, Rene Leong and Angela Straaten will bring your to your table. Most tables will have sofas; altho some will have stool tables. You may move around; but please do so quietly.

1800 hrs – Most of the key staff will have arrived.
1900 hrs – Most role players will have arrived.
1930 hrs – Thomas Loh, our stage manager will take over. Simply sit down and enjoy the evening. When the singers are singing and the opening speeches are in porgress, do give attention to the stage.
2359 hrs – We close for the night. As with any nightclub, you may leave early, but please do so quietly while the dancing and singing continue to take place.

Drinks order (beyond allocation) need to be paid for when they arrived. This includes any food ordered to your table.

Please note that if your name is not on the registration list, you will not be allowed entry to the Cabaret night. My apology on this, no ticket exchange. Have a niice evening.

    Terence Seah

  353. In 2011, we will have a similar event. The concept will still focus on singing. Maybe the next time, the singers will be on a round floor, and the patrons will be all around the dance floor.

High profile SHCians who would like to organise this event, please look at this event, and let me or other senior SHCians know if you would like to be the EO. Date should be around mid Jan 2011. Remember, as EO, you have to cover the event from head to toe. Think about it, and raise your hand.

  354. Cabaret Night, the most happening event at the turn of the new year, will be delivered tomorrow night. It’s a pity we only get to read features on 2 out of a total of 8 singers. Disappointed? Yes…. to a certain extent.

Hi Caroline, thanks for your response @ 468.

  355. Hi Ann,

I would love to have more write-ups on the singers. However, we couldn’t find writers to the column. We have done some nice pictures, when you come to the registration desk. Hope everybody can recognise the singers. Quite fun.

    Terence Seah

  356. Hi Everyone,
Hope all of you have a great time 2nite.. sob sob, I cant b bck 4 tis event as much as I wanted. However due to work permit appln here, passport kena hold back by d China Immg lor.. But nvm, I will definitely get 2 see tis pics or video.. Cheers.. Dolly

  357. Dolly

U really missed the fun this time la … Well. Sam Huat behaved himself very well la…will show u some photo privately (haha)

Terence – Another successful event in the list .. I believed every each of us enjoyed ourselves to the fullest ..

    Karen

  358. Terence,

A very big “Thank You” to you, the organising committee and the singers for putting up such a great show last night at the Shanghai Castle NightClub for us. It’s a great success.
Kudos to all the singers who did a great job, having made time and putting in efforts in their singing and costumes. Wow, Caroline, Hamidah, Doreen, Sally, Peng Peng, Janet, Catherine and Ronnie….all of you are STARS of the night !

Thanks for all the fun and laughters. We had a good time dancing too, at such a spacious dance floor in 8Deg !

Wei wei Dolly, so sad you can’t come back for this big event. :(

  359. Dear Terence & Team of Event Committee,

Time for us to give a post-event feedback after every event held within SHC…

Indeed an honour to have participated in the grand opening of “Shanghai Castle Niteclub” with our foreign Club Owners ~ sweet & gorgeous-looking Geraldine from HK, and Jeff Lim, from the ‘Land of a Thousand Smiles-BKK’! The Niteclub was well inaugurated with the proper ribbon-cutting ceremony, with loud cheers & applause from the audience eminently seen!

The repertoire of yesteryears’ Mandarin songs sang by our talented SHC singers were well delivered in good grace & glamour, whizzing us off to the dancefloor, including the ‘Mummysan herself!

On behalf of my charming ‘hostesses’, I would like to thank all businessmen/tycoons for their generous local & foreign currency tips, and sure hope more gals can be recruited with Shanghai Castle Niteclub in the years to come. Am I right, Geraldine & Jeff?

Without the support of our wealthy businessmen, and the gracious lady partners who ‘released’ them for the dancefloor, myself and my gals would have to sit at the corner sofa, gazing at the ceiling ~ a big THANK YOU!

    Cheers!

  360. Hi Terence & Committee

May I know who is keeping posters of singers’ photos shots?
Anyway that those fotos be given to us as souvenir?

    Suzhang & Sue

Thanks for your compliments for the singers. When singing songs of yesteryears makes me remember of our teenage days..I was hoping to see you all dance A Go Go or Shake last nite ha..ha

  361. Hi Sue #477

You have hit the nail on the head ! I could not have said it better myself. I am sure your ‘hostesses’ made a lot of money, all looking so great !

And kudos to all the singers too. All dressed to kill and a great MC too and of course not forgetting the beautiful waitresses and flower girl !

All in all , it was a wonderful night !

Hamidah, pls email the photo you took with me to maggieteo_0517@hotmail.com. Terimakaseh !

    Cheers

  362. Wow Sue Chan….your gals are so gorgeous last night. Cat Yeo looks more like a mamasan than a hostess…hehehe. Was wondering why no hostesses came to my table last night, got rich “towkays” here mah….

Big rounds of applause to the STARS of the night, you all are great singers, entertaining us with all the beautiful songs of yesteryear.

Just to update the singers, last night my flowers business was very good leh…no idea how much was collected though. Later, Hou Chong will give a short summary of last night takings.

Shanghai Castle nightclub “towkay” & “towkayneo” (Jeffrey & Geraldine), Stage Manager, Thomas Loh and all the helpers….a big thank you to you too.

Hamidah, no shake shake and go go go, but we did twist & twist round the dance floor…hehehe… ;)

    Ah Nee

  363. As a follow up to Ah Nee’s comment on #480
A total of 56 bouquets of flowers were sold last evening with Janet and Caroline drawing the major share of the sale. The takings comprised of S$114, MMK5,ooo, THB 60 and believe it or not, 10 RUB (rubles – on a Bk of Rossli ie Russia ccy note). Ah Nee will be contacting each singer in the next few days as regards to the takings. Terence has given a guideline regarding this aspect on #447 above.
    HC

  364. Hi all,

I do agreed it was a very successful event.
I thought most of us will be watching the singers performed
on stage the whole nite, with a little bit of dancing here
and there lead by the hostesses.

Boy, I was dead wrong. Everybody was up on the dance floor
from the 1st song, giving great accompaniment to the
singers on stage and doing justice to their great voices.

The hostesses were very proactive in tearing the
superglue from the men in their seats and swaying them
    onto the dance floor.

Kudos to mamasan Sue and her bevy of charming hostesses.
Everyone of us were very sporting and easy to dance with.
They did it for the fun of it and notso much for ‘business’,
not expecting anything in return. Sue, is that right?

And I hope the men who had the privilege of the hostesses’
gentle guiding hands & sensuos figures, had given some
generous tips, like our chief Terence, who never hesitate
to whip out a big RED note for each hostess.

My sincere thanks to Sue and Sue, Lydia, Agnes, Cat and
all the Beauties I had the pleasure to dance with. And my
apology to those I was supposed to dance with but unable to.

It will be a nite that be permanantly etched in my mind
    and cast in stone!

    Hurray !!!

    cheers,
    james

  365. Hi Dear Friends

I wish to thank EO Terence and his team and to our lovely Lily for taking such good care of us.

Also to lovely Geraldine and suave Jeff for engaging me to perform in their niteclub.

To think that I nearly did not make it to the Cabaret Nite, it would have a big miss. I am glad with all my friends’ encouragement, I did what I have always wanted to do – to have the courage to sing in Chinese to an audience. I had a really good time.

I can now put my I-pod away. It was practically stuck to my ears for the past three weeks to help me memorise my lyrics.

I would like to thank all the nice people who attended the event otherwise we will have no one to sing to.

I would also like to thank my generous “admirers” for your bouquets. I am not sure if I should list the names here because most of you did not present it to me personally so you probably want to remain anonymous. I am very touched.

And the towkays and towkay neos, patrons, hostesses and mamasans put in lots of effort to dress up to outdo each other and its a really lovely sight to see all the beautiful gowns and cheongsams and beautifully made up faces – I think you all gave us,the singers a good fight for.

Lina and Sue Chang – love your hairdo – look so good and so authentic

So sorry for being so long winded.

    Thanks very much again.

    Carly

  366. My correction to para 3 of #483

Shoud be “it would have been a big miss for me” – haha short of some words and it sounded like I am so hao lian and that I will be missed. Never ever dare think it this way.

    Carly

  367. This para is specially dedicated to my vivacious hostesses ~CatYeo, SueTan, Lydia, Agnes & some part-timers,

THANK YOU GALS, you did well last nite! Your exuberance were visibly displayed in your role-play as hostesses and apart from being dressed in your curvaceous best, you gals observed punctuality which is of utmost importance!

Without your kind support to the ‘Mummysan’, the ‘Mummysan’ will definitely be ‘out of job’..can only be drinking on mineral water instead of indulging in glasses of red wine!

James – You’re right, my ‘hostesses’ are indeed very SPORTING & SUPPORTIVE. Its through their ardent determination that the ‘Mummysan’ was able to fulfil and contribute to the success of this event. To quote, they’re indeed precious jewels, very genuine and rare,a FRIENDSHIP thats worth beyond COMPARE!

So gals, we shall co-operate again if there’s another opportunity coming our way eh..

    Cheers!

  368. Hi Maggie Teo #479

Okie dokie, will email you the photo soon. Poor me last nite reach home 12.30pm and slept at 1am & now at 10.29pm still in the office ha..ha

    Hi Ah Nee #480

I see you busy dancing but poor thing after dance also busy doing work ie by going to the stage to collect back the flowers hee..hee…. I also saw my dear fren Nor pun dancing cha2 & twist…pandai seh ha..ha

  369. Mummysan Sue Chan,

Thank you for your ‘glowing accolades’. Yes, you have said it all so whats left for me to say is that (I am sure I speak for our sporting hostesses too?)it was fun and heartening to see most attendees enjoying themselves and slipping into their role-playing with enthusiasm. You were totally immersed in your role and I must say it was my pleasure to be a part of that.

Special thanks also goes to the ‘generous’ towkays – JamesT, AndrewK, Chin Boon, RonW, Hong Jen, TerenceS and towkayneo NinaC. Without your roles, the nightclub would not be a roaring success.

Cheers for the compliments – MaggieT and Ah Nee – you both look dapper in your cheongsams too!

Last but not least, my fellow hostesses, you are a pleasure to work with so see you at the next theme night!

  370. Gee thanks, Cat Yeo, for including me on your list of ‘generous’ patrons. “between” Ron Wie and me,
you were the most glamorous hostess in your body-hugging midnight-blue cheongsam. You deserve every penny
we could dish out in the dark (trust it’s not Rupiah).
Sue Chan, thanks for re-living the moments of good old time. You never failed in your duty as Mamasan
and kept us entertained the entire night. If only they played more oldies but slowie like fox trox ya.
To lively and bubbly Agnes Seow, you were sporting enough for that cha-cha dance but too bad I’m such a poor
dancing partner and good only at cheek-to-cheek nos.
Ms Indonesia and ‘leggy’ Bira Lupolo, you danced with guys and dolls the whole night EXCEPT me. Kenapa, hati sakit DONG!
Ms Vienamese Rene, you almost slapped my hand when I tried to check out your Ao-dai. But you looked fab….
Sweet Maggie Teo, you reminded me of our last meeting at MJ table, and sat with us but why no dancing. Sigh!
Yo.., the most friendly Ah Nee, never failed to chat up with me, but where’s the flowers?
And Sue Chang with that mopped hair-do, sorry I couldn’t recognise you twice when you said Hello and Goodnight to me.
Good golly Ms Molly, you offered us two glasses of red wine and I had the cheek to turn you down when you asked for
that ride home to the other end of the world, EAST. But how could I, when my home at Holland is just around the corner.
    Sorry lah.
Two others who left me with lingering impressions are that elegantly-dressed cabaret owner from H.K.
Geraldine Ting. She’s got style and poise. Come back again and chat with me, will you pls?…..and
Jacqueline Han, who sat quietly at a corner like a true lady, quite contrary to her weekly ha-ha-ha image.
For the guys, Hey thanks Ron Wie, for letting me dance with your fiance (so-called, once hooked) Dareen Lau with her
smooth steps. Don’t worry, I kept my distance enough for you to squeeze in between.
Wong Hong Jen (hey, I like you coz you kept your real Chinese name like me), you sent a SMS out of the blue and
encouraged me with: “Lumsing song. What u waiting for?” I did, with a charming lady Cat Koh who changed 3 times
from eye-catching mini skirt, to alluring cheongsam, and finally trendy red, right for rock-and-roll and the twist.

    In short, WHAT A NIGHT!

  371. It was a GREAT SHANGAI CARABET night, bringing an era that could be only staged in today’s century, Thanks so much Terence for your vision and bringing it to a reality. The cutting of ribbons for the opening, the signboard, flowers and setting were so well thought of.

Our “mummysan” Sue did a fantastic job ensuring that the hostesses got plenty of bookings from the towkays thus the generous tips. Thanks for the invitation sayang and the wonderful compliments you bestowed on the hostess. With your support and hard work, I had a great time playing the role with my dear fellow hostesses, Catherine, Susan and Lydia. My heartfelt thanks to the towkays for your support, Terence, Andrew, James, Hong Jen, Kent, Chin Boon, Dennis. I enjoyed your company during the chatting and dancing. My thanks too to Madam Lily Ho, not forgetting Boss Jeffrey and Lady Boss Gereldine.

Applauds to each and everyone who were there, dressing up to their respective roles, be it the singers, flower girl, ushers, waitress, business tycoons and the ladies patron.

I hope the next theme shindig would not be too far away.

    Cheers
    Agnes

  372. On behalf of my co-owner, Geraldine, I must thank all who made the grand opening of ShangHai Castle a resounding success – the patrons, lou pans especially tycoon Terence, the world renowned singers, mamasan Sue and her seductresses and the stage management crew. Let’s not forget the ushers too for sometimes a minor detail like a patron not finding a good seat can blow up and spoil the reputation of an elite club.

With the success of this perhaps we can look into expanding the ShangHai Castle chain into Bangkok and Hong Kong

  373. Hello All,

The launching of Shanghai Castle Niteclub was a great success!

Thank you to all the compliments.

    Here’s my thank you list:

Ah Nee, for the huge balls (they looked great) and scissors (no dentures needed). Mwah!

The 2 elegant ladies (apologies as I need to see the photos to refresh my memory) for holding the ribbons for the ceremony. Xie xie!

Sweet Nor, the scissors would not have a home without your beautiful silver tray. Hugs!

All ta lau pan and patrons for attending this opening. Hope you had a great evening.

    Now the compliments:

Oi Cheng and the team of ushers.

Our Mamasan, beautiful Sue Chan, it was really nice meeting you. I almost drooled looking at you. You did your role very well.

The delicious hostesses; dressed the part and played their role just as well. Our bao bei, indeed!

The superstars. What can I say? I almost screamed in ecstacy when I saw them dressed as STARS (exactly what I envisioned) and performed with their hearts and souls. So proud of them!

Lily for your helpfulness; the stars needed it.

Our compere, darling Thomas was so busy doing his role even after the event, kekekekeee and enjoying himself at the same time.

Our mystery guest, none other than our very own bouncer, Sam Huat (did a great job) and his rendition of Shanghai Beach that made me blush………

Molly for her well done role.

How can I forget co-owner dashing Jeffrey in his well cut double-breasted suit; almost took him home.

Ah yes, founder Terence whose eyes sparkled and glowed as he relived his happy good old days……..for organizing this.

Until the next time/trip, here’s wishing all a happy 2010!

  374. Swee swee Geraldine, the 2 elegant ladies holding the ribbons on both side are Norlinda & Suzhang.

Hamidah dear, Norlinda has got talent…..she can danz and “gelak gelak”, all she need is a guy to guide & turn her…..hehehe…she “pandai” leh, I like her cha cha, her moves are so groovy!

    Ah Nee

  375. Hi Ah Nee #492
Sori let me correct your Malay spelling shld be “gelek gelek” meaning “yio ka chng” & not “gelak gelak” which means “laughter”

Ask Nor to give you free coaching on dancing lah for buddy buddy sake.

    To: Generous Admirers
My sincere thanks & appreciation to all of you (you know who you are) for the bouquets, I’m so touched though some of you did not present it personally.

To: Geraldine & Jefrey (Niteclub Owners)
I’m happy to meet both of you, especially in sacrificing your valuable time just to be here in S’pore with us & not forgetting thank for employing me as your niteclub singer hee.hee. Bdway you all forgetten to pay my salary lah ha..ha.

Geraldine, you so “cantik” (hor leng) & got the look of towkayneo.

    Cheers
    Hamidah

  376. I juz made an U-turn from Cloud 9 to say THANK YOU to EO Terence and his Team of Event Committee for making my dream as a singer come true in reality at Shanghai Castle Niteclub.

THANK YOU to all SHC members for their supportive roles in making this a memorable nite and also my ‘fans’ for their bouquet of flowers…

    Cheers everyone…

    Janet Chan

  377. Thank you, Ah Nee for refreshing my memory.

    Take 2:

Thank you Sweet Nor and Suzhang for your help. Double mwah!!

Would also like to thank Sockie and Boon Liang; please forgive my dementia.

    Hi Hamidah,

It was nice to finally meet you! Do not have to wait at the City Garden Hotel anymore. Kekekekeee. You did us proud with your singing…….

    Take care!

  378. Dear Singers of Shanghai Castle Niteclub……..

It was exciting selling those bouquets to your fans & admirers. Certainly your repertoire of songs of yesteryear had touched many hearts……Cheers to all of you!

The proceeds from the sale of bouquets, which total to S$116.00, will be donated to the Charity as agreed by all the Singers. As such I have asked Ah Huat to handle this as he is very familiar with the Charity Organization here.

I would like to thank all the Singers (Janet Chan, Caroline Gee, Hamidah, Peng Peng, Ronnie Sow, Sally Tan, Catherine Koh & Doreen Lau) of their generous contributions. Ah Huat, thank you for your kind assistance too! :)

    Ah Nee

  379. Chin Boon @ 488 – I dont remember asking you for a ride home. I hv my own car and drive myself where ever I go. After the nite, we even went for supper with Lily, Jway, Caroline, Ronnie, John Howe, Dennis, Shirleen, Oi Cheng, Janet and Boon Liang. Did you mistaken me for somewhere else who asked you for a ride. Its definitely not me. Did you had one too many drinks or surrounded by too many ladies that you even forget who it was. Anyway hope you had a wonderful time there.

  380. To all the singers, I have to say you have given an impressive performance. And, to the the committee and role players, I shall always remember this memomorable event. And, to every body who got onto the dance floor, you make the evening meaningful right up from 1930 hrs to 2359 hrs.

I met two supportive SHCians Andrew and Karen today, and they did not hesitate to suggest that we should hold the same event again, another day.

So, did you just love the songs of the 60s and 70s, or you just love dancing. Or was it that the dance floor was so big that you cannot resist being a part of it

Were you down on the dance floor right at the beginning 7.30pm because the hostesses got you down or the evening and dresses were just sensational?

Do you want another similar event or as Andrew suggested to me today, to have a similar event, but in English?

I am looking for an EO to take this forward. Hands up please. Dont be shy.

    Terence Seah

  381. Hi All SHC’s members,

First of all I would like to express my sincere thanks to all singers for their hardwork and spend great effort in dolling up themselves, Ms Caroline, Mr Ronnie Sow, Ms Sally Tan, Ms Catherine Koh, Ms Doreen Lau, Ms Hamidah and Ms Peng Peng.

I would like to also thanks the following members for their contributions.
Ms Jeanette Chan, Ms Frisna Tan,Ms Eileen Thean, Ms Oi Cheng, Ms Veronique Lee,Ms Ann Lim ,Ms Rene Leong , Ms Angela Straaten,Ms Rosalind Lee ,Ms Molly Chua,Ms Jennifer Lim,Ms Xiang Xiang,Ms Ah Nee,Mr Dan Huang,Mr Sam Huat and all the Towkay and others.

Special thanks to Ms Lily Ho and the Founders-Mr Terence Seah,Ms Geraldine Ting ,Mr Jeffrey Lim. And all the Participles who make the event such a success.

Please pardon me if i make any mistakes and anything wrong on that day.I also like to apologize for those who do not understand Mandarin and Dialects. As these are the requirements for the old Nightclub and as a MC.

Mr Terence,I supported your idea having a similar event, but in English.

I think that the 60s and 70s songs and dancing at the same time will be suitable for the nightclub events unless it is a Star in Concert.

    Cheers

  382. Huh, it wasn’t you, Molly? I could have sworn……….But I guess you’re right, it couldn’t have been you coz I remember that evening at east coast parkway when I saw your luxurious Merz driven by a pint-size you. I’m glad it wasn’t you after all as this clears my conscience. Now I wonder who’s the petite lady with a booming voice that cried out for help that night……..?

  383. Hi My dearest lovely and beautiful Mamasan, Waitress and Hostesses, Ms Catherine Yeo, Ms Susan Chan, Ms Agnes Seow, Ms Lydia Chin & Ms Susan Tan. I also like to express my sincere thanks to you without you all we are unable to call it a Nightclub ! Pls pardon me if i miss anyone again. Great Day !

    Cheers !!!

  384. When I read Agnes Seow’s post (#489), “…the next theme shindig…”, I thought, gee, which era does she come from? It’s been ages since I heard the word ‘shindig’. Then I realised it’s the same era as me.

That could be the theme for the 2011 event. A night to relive our disco going days. Memories and nostalgia of Gino’s, Spot Spot, Pink Pussycat, Babarella and yes, there was a disco called the Shindig Club.

  385. Hi Jeffrey #502

We are from the same generation lah, or maybe I’m from the generation before you.

All those places that you mentioned, I did not had the chance to step in, but they sure sounded groovy and happening. Only picture them when the girls reminisced about them. ahhhhh….

    Thanks Thomas #501.

My apologies, I had inadvertently left you out in my earlier posting.

Good job, you performed very well as a MC, plus soooo smart and charming in your suit, adik

    Cheers
    Agnes

  386. Hello Thomas Ah Hiah,

‘Mai Kek Ki leh..Ka Ki Nan’….you’re equally great & bilingually versatile on both the stage & the dazzling dancefloor with that beaming smile of yours!

You’re bound to be recruited anytime by Victor Khoo, the Ventriloquist, if you ever need an evening part-time job!!

‘Kam Siah’~ will meet again sometime ya..

    Cheers to you too!

  387. Hi Singer-Janet Chan,

Sorry to miss you out from the thank you list.
Thanks again. You look Gorgous and Sing very well.

    Agnes Seow & Sue Chan

Thanks for the compliments. You both look elegant and charming that day too.

    Cheers

  388. halo ah nee #496 ,

Hou Chong & Lina Ng, thanks for being my treasurer, your effort is much appreciated! :)

    Ah Nee

  390. Hi All,
sorry just back from overseas and only have time to say my appreciation now.
I think the evening was GREEEATTT even for a non-dancer like me. The ambiance was right, the songs were good, the singers were all-out to perform and the lady dancers were eye candies (who said it’s a SILVER hair club? they looked so young & sexy!).

Thumbs up to Terence for the good idea and salute to MC Thomas for the job well done (although you said you’re a shy person but you carried out the interviews rather smoothly). As for mamasan Sue? I think real club owners should employ you – you worked so hard for lau pan niang Geraldine & tawkay Jeffry!

    Cheers!

  391. Hi all,

Almost everything I wanted to say have already been said.

However, I must say that the cabaret dancing hall was BRIGHTLY litted up that NOT even one of the “OCTOPUS”( quote borrowed from Sue Chan) dare to lay their “tentacles” on the pretty and voluptous “mermaids”.

That made the job of the bouncers easier without having to “kick” out the obnoxious octopus. He! he! :)

  392. Our cabaret theme event is over. Some members have requested for a replay, but maybe not for now. Guess, it would be too fast to hold another. But, this should not prevent you from doing a similar event.

For those whose dancing shoes are still intact, whose dresses can still manage a few more wear, I think the venue is just big enough for 100 pax. If you have a dream to hold a similar event, the venue will cost you $2000, complete with bear, wine, coffee and soft drinks. Have fun.

    Terence Seah

  393. halo halo ah nee # 496 ,

yestreday i happen 2 be nearby town.

    sam haut huat huat

  394. Over the next few moons, we will carry the pictures taken at the cabaret theme event.

Plse remember to refresh your browser. Know everybody on the banner?

    Terence Seah

  395. Terence, for the sake of all the new members in this club, could you please state the names of those in the banner? I myself do not know who the two lovely ladies and the single gentleman is.

    Thank you
    Ros

  396. Hi Ros #518,

I don’t really know all the names of members. I can recognise their faces, but very often I cannot piece the name with the face.

Banner pictures are usually selected on the basis of content. And of course if they fit into the space, hmm great.

If I am not wrong, the sweet lady on the left is Catherine and the other sweet lady on the right is Lydia. Now, the guy in the centre is someone very popular. I know he is a good dancer, altho a pretty quiet man. However, I don’t have his name. Don’t you think the three looked fabulous?

    Terence Seah

  397. Terence, you know smthg? The first she wears the type blue usually worn by the doll teasing the lion in a lion danz altho the color is also commonly featured in blue films for obvious reason.

The other shee, she looks a lot like the canton opera star of yesteryears – Lei Hiong Kum. And when Lei made the kind of face, you knew straightaway that she was plotting smthg……..like how to get rid of the queen (as Lei invaraibly acted as the no. 2 concubine). No doubt, this she must be a great fan of Lei.

  398. Hi Terence S / others,

    They looked more than fabulous.

The one of the left is our famous Mahjong Queen, Catherine Yeo, the centre is Jway , Dancing King and on the right is Lydia Chin, Dancing Queen. :)

  399. Hi Caroline Gee,

Sorry. Lah . Salah Nombor. So it is Wong Hong Jeng.

At that time cannot remember but the ” Korean” face seems familiar.
That is the price to pay for being categorised as a silverhair.

Alamak! Memory is slowly fading,,,,, :)

  400. #519 Terence,

I can understand your not remembering all the SHC members’ names, Terence. Too many to recall.

I thank those who could identify the 3 members in the banner. I was reminded that I’ve already met Catherine Yeo in the Cafe. See…bad memory. :P No offence, Cat! You looked stunning!

  401. Dear Steven

Dont worry. No vulgarities from me. It stands for Lau Lung Piao (Old People Brand).

    Going to Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz land.

Goodnite and sweet dreams everyone :)

    Carly

  402. Dear Rosalind #524,

Kum siah for the compliment but I dont blame you for not recognising me becos the one you met at the cafe had short hair whereas this one on the banner has longer hair haha.

Will be seeing you at Marilyn’s BBQ tomorrow so we will continue our chat there, meanwhile have a good day!

  403. #527 Caroline Gee,

I love your sense of humour, Caroline! You got me chuckling with the acronym ‘LLP’. I thought it was a brand of gas…:p

Poor Steven, kana ‘branded’ liao. hehehee

  404. Thanks Rosalind. Good that you find it funny cos I like everyone to be like my sugi biscuits. What a nag I am hahaha!

When I told my colleague LLP and she asked me what it was and was expecting something unsavoury so when I told her the meaning, she too laughed and said she liked that.
