Have your photo, link to your Post or Comment

Hi everybody,

The good thing with members of this forum is that there is no shortage of suggestions.  The latest suggestion is to link a member’s Post or Comment to his/her photo.  I think it is a good idea too, but gosh this is going to take up a lot of time.  But, I think it is good and we should go ahead.  Very often, we cannot tell one June from another June or even another June.

Putting up a photo is optional.  So, it goes like this.  When you read a Post or a comment, you will see this, for example.

Name: Terence | E-mail: terences@silverhairsclub.com | URI: https://silverhairsclub.com | IP: 58.143.73.0

Usually, the URI is empty.  This is because there is no link to a webpage.  We can link your photo to the above URI.

As this requires time, I would like two show of hands.  The job is to take a photo of forum members (optional), and upload this to the SHC server.  Alternatively, the forum participant sends you a digital photo.  This photo is then given to the forum member, as a URI link.  The URI link is inserted into the forum member’s profile.  So, when a Post or Comment is posted, new members can click on the URI and see the photo.

I have to apologise I am unable to do this function due to my travel schedule.  If you would like to do this task, please raise your hand.  The requirement is you must be willing to spend 30 mins a day, anytime of the day.  Important you have a PC, preferably with broadband access.  Ideally, you should be retired, and very patient with forum members who are not internet savvy.  No experience is not a problem, as you will be trained.  You must love chatting, and loves meeting members, especialy at monthly gatherings.  Should have a simple digital camera, if not, one will be provided.  Male or Female.  Age over 45.  This is volunteer service, and the term is two years, ending 31 Dec 2007.

Look forward to hearing from you.

We can do it on activity basis. For example cycling group, we know each other well enuf 2 tell U who is who from the photos. I can always cut out the individual faces from the group photo n email them 2 U separately 4 your linking. In tis case, U save time on getting someone 2 photoshoot them. I m sure U can always pick the faces from the reguarly gatherings as well.

  2. Terence, spot-on when you said this June may not be that June but then you seem to taper off when you only asked that the volunteer be a folk with patience and love, forgetting his need to hv good eyesight and elephant’s memory.

Wonder how June feels if June 2007 is posted as June 1960, and vice versa……….

  3. Hi Terence

You said the term is two years, ending Dec 31 2007 ?? Isn’t this 4 months away ? or are you actually refering ending Dec 31,2009 ??

  4. A golden crossselling opportunity.

Make it compulsory for everyone to post a file photo and sell digital makeover services for photo enhancement. Every member needs it.

    I want also.

Make my body years younger and brain more mature. Use the digital scapel and shape face dimensions into Fibonacci numbers (the beauty proportions).

  5. Hi Yew Kwong,

You mean those “Wanted Man” pin-ups?

Not all may wish to have their photos appear on the website; a consensus shd be sought. Also quoting the post – “Putting up a photo is optional”.

    Above, strictly my personal opinion.

  6. Ann To

A consensus shd only come in when the photo protrays a single member otherwise not such as the one now displays on its banner.

Whether we want 2 put up or not, it doesnt really matter because we can already see “who is who” captured on photo at the regular
events only minus the name imprints.

  7. Hi KT/Terence,

This thing about digital enhancement, is it viable to set up a company and offering the services to all SHCians and general public.

We would need a suitable place for make-up, different range of costumes and good photographers.I have a friend who run a Fuji Photo outlet.

Photo pixs will be put in an album. We will charge less than what the existing company like Snap Image at Club Street is charging.

  8. Hair or no hair, I think restoration is big biz for SHC. The old photos handle carefully because thhey are one of a kind. A little like art restoration.

It will be best if restoration can be done on site. Bring a machine on-site and scan old photos. It is when transportation is involved when diastrous irretrievable mistakes are made. It will be one of its kind personlized service.

Also an archhiving service. This may be as simply to take in all the digital images and sorting them out by true date. Many people run different sets with few cameras on different holidays. Later it becomes a nightmare.

  9. hi terence,
I think it shd be optional. some may not like the idea and we shd respect it. I think like you said, a show of hands would be a good start, whether to signal their approval or rejection to the idea.
the other way to do it may be to have a who’s who page and for those who doesn’t mind their pic posted, can do so there. we may use some of those pics already taken during the past outings and that may be quicker way around it. those who wish to have any particular pic taken out and write in to request.
then we cud either charge for that service or threaten to blackmail him/her and ….. oops sorry hor, got carried away! aiyah! pai-seh, pai-seh!

cheers & my warm regards to all reading!

  10. Dear Terence

On behalf of the gang, we thank you for your company at Blue Jazz last Sat nite. It came as a surprise to us when you said that there are about 5 other SHC members named Lily. Therefore, taking your cue…. “Have your photo, link to your Post or Comment”…. I am taking the lead in updating my profile with a photo. I’ve used the photo from Dolly’s album of the ‘Cha Bo’ night. The shot was well taken with John Howe’s camera, thanks to cameraman, Ron Lee. Hope this is ok with you, and I would like to encourage other members to do the same. Some of you have got such winsome smiles, it is such a waste not to show it.

  11. Hi Terence

I support Lily’s initiative 2 upload a photo. Don’t want 2 end up as someone else if ppl cant differentiate or remember who’s is who. Hv sent a photo 2 u oredi.

  12. KT #11:

I have done freelance digital restoration of damaged photos, photo editing and enhancements. Unless the restoration/enhancement is minimal in nature, this kind of work is time consuming and cannot be rushed, without comprising quality. Moreover, you will require a notebook (or a MacBook)with the appropriate software as well as a scanner (for scanning print copies)if you want to do the work on-site, and not just one machine.

    Terence:

I have a memory like a damage sieve, but if you need someone to take, crop, resize, etc photos, I can volunteer to do that. However, I am not able to commit to any specific term at this time for personal reasons. I have the necessary equipment and licensed software.

    Cheers,

    Ron

  13. Hi RonK @15,

I shall remember you when we require photo edits. I have been secretly thinking of making fashion photography as part of making SilverHairs, a more vibrant community in Singapore.

This is likely to include fashion shows, catwalks, dance performances, portrait photography and stars abuzz.

So, everybody, keep fit, healthy, wealthy and good.
