A Merry Heart doeth good like a medicine.

Yes, laughter is the best medicine.  I am amaze at the thought of how the human being is form.  It says that the Great Manufacturer have a great sense of humour.  Why is it that our nose is right on top on our face and not form near our buttock.

Anyway, we are always attracted to a person who have a sense of humour.  A word of encouragement could lift up a sad countenance and give hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

So, if you have a good joke or an encouragement or enlightenment share with us. Never know you may lift up  a depressed soul!emoticon

  1. Hi Dancing Dan

Hope you are not having a headache with all that banging.

Happy are we that we won’t sit on our noses.

I am just wondering how the Creator decided that we should have two eyes, two ears, one nose and one mouth and not maybe, one eye (no more problems with being cross-eyed), two ears in the middle of our face, two noses at the sides of our heads and two mouths (Wow! Those who eat non-stop will be happy..)

  2. “Why is it that our nose is right on top on our face…….”

Dan, if that’s where yr nose is, you’re very different………..and obviously very unfortunate.

Look around you and you will see that OUR noses are all at the centre of the face.

Btw, are yr mostrils facing up or down?

  3. Dan,
I agree totally with what you say. The words from a song, the title of which I forget, say it well.
“When you’re smiling, the whole world smiles with you…. “

  4. Dan,
I believe there are gurus who conduct laughing sessions. Do you know of any? What about having one for SHCians? It would do many of us a lot of good.

  5. Hi Mary,

Yea, we all can be gurus after we collate all the contributions from fellow SHCians.

Tim, I believe it facing down.

Joy, having one mouth mean we talk less and two ears mean to listen more. One eye mean we are alien!

  6. Ok, I believe you that “IT facing down”, almost like mine 2 both face down.

On why 1 mouth & 2 ears, it actually attest to the great work of the Maker in trying to ensure that fidelity is observed.

See, with 1 mouth, you can only kiss 1 pair of lips at a time but with 2 ears, yr men wont hv to queue too long to tug them if you’re unfaithful.

  7. Hi Dan

    John: Playing cards

  9. Hi Mary,

Don’t need gurus to conduct laughing sessions. Come and join our cycling group, you will laugh till you drop. ha…ha…aaaaaa right all the cycling group? :)

    Ah Nee

  10. Hi Ah Nee,

Good. Will we be laughing at our silly antics or perhaps out of nervousness? Hehe.

As long as it’s “ha ha ha” and not “ha ha ahhh!!! ….crash!!!

I will be there but still haven’t the faintest idea which part of the ECP.

  11. Hi Mary,

Very easy, you won’t miss it. We all meet at East Coast MacDonald. If you still can’t find MacDonald , you call Yew Kwong or Donald Duck…ha…ha…:(

  12. Mary

Ah Nee is absolutely. U better take her words seriously. We mean biz. Really laugh until U cant or dont want 2 go home.

Be prepared n come wif sleeping bag.

  13. Ah Nee, ok, noted. McD. but I won’t be able to recognise any of you. Do I simply approach anybody with silverhairs and ask,

    “Are you from SHC?”

Problem is, not many SHC will actually have silverhairs, am I right?

Or perhaps you could email me your mobile number? Or maybe Yew Kwong will oblige?

  14. :)ha….ha…..ha…. Mary, you see, you haven’t join our cycling group, you already laughing right! Yew Kwong very funny, he gave you all his “contacts” ha…haaaaa Yew Kwong, we all are watching ()

    Ah Nee

  15. Yew Kwong, How you going to see if you gave me your contacts? Don’t want you crashing into a tree lah. Then you will have hand and body contact with the poor tree, haha.

  16. Hi Joy & Dan,

Having one mouth is plenty, as more means it’s harder to feed. Two ears is a gift when mother-in-law yaps as it goes in at one and out at the other. One eye, eh… that’s obviously some rotten hoodwinked pirate never learn when to tell the real from the fake.

  17. Wow Charles,
I tried the test and guess what, you’ve made my day!
My “real” age is 41.3 and I can expect to live to 95.3! How accurate is this?
I believe it’s likely that I can live till that age. 1 of my grandparents lived beyond 90, 2 beyond 95 and my mum is still going strong at 89. So keeping my fingers crossed, hehe.
41.3?? Nah, I can’t fool myself that I look that young, but it does make me walk with a spring in my steps, haha. Whooppeee!!
    Thank you Charles. :-)

  18. Charles,
The oddest thing is that none of my family members is the sporty kind. In fact the only sporty one is my mum, who was very active before she got married.

  19. Mary, you are going to live up to 95.3 and I 92.5, so the test says… At least I have one more friend to keep me going! Another thought … better plan ahead , so many more years to go, money enough??
    cheers

  20. Hi charles,Mary,

Nice try! The Creator says three score and ten. Anything beyond than depend on how much we exercise, eat the right kind of foods and take the right kind of supplements.

Btw, what supplements is good to complements the lack of nutrients and minerals in our body.

Some says, ginglo biloba, others says Noni juice, others mangosteen juice, some say durian juice, I say Gogi juice. Whatever you say, no advocating of MLM products!

  21. Charles,

Living to that age sounds good provided one is still lucid and mobile. I remember my grandmothers were very alert, especially my maternal grandmother who still had her sharp tongue although she had gone blind with cataract in her later years. She was too afraid to go for an operation which would have helped her see better.

Yes, I have already made some plans which should see me through to my last days. Enough or not depends on the inflation rate I guess.

What concerns me more is health. Without good health, there is no point in living too long.
Some tell me that I should exercise to keep fit, but my mother told me that my grandparents hardly did any hard work or exercise. Yet they lived to a ripe old age in pretty good health. How do you explain that? Fate?
We haven’t met but I hope to meet you and many others on Tuesday. It’s good to have friends, especially in our old age.

    Cheers to you too, friend.

  22. Dan,
I believe how long one lives is still up to our creator or as some say, “fate”.

You are correct that taking supplements, in the correct dosage, does improve one’s health in some ways, as does exercise, relaxation, eating “right” and abstaining from bad habits like smoking etc.

I take a comprehensive multivitamin, together with calcium tablets, gingko biloba and additional B-complex daily. I don’t know about all those juices but I have tried Aloe Vera juice, which ironically gave me gastric pains, haha.

There is one more thing that many people forget. Water. It is just as important as, if not more than supplements. I don’t think I can survive without my cups of water every day.

  23. Hi Mary,

Yes, when our numbers are called, then it time to go. Btw, I hardly take any gingko biloba but only Gogi juice.

Water is very essential but not coffee and tea as it is too taxing on our organs.

Seems we have another cross line here. Look like we have to start another post on staying young and healthy.

  24. Steven,

Gogi is again another Amor dum-dum thing. It is only drummed up because of MLM. You have been eating this from birth.

Gogi berry is MLM amor name spin for our wolfberry. “Gogi” is the chinese phonetical spelling of the fruit.

The name “goji berry” comes of course from the Chinese name for lycium: Gou Qi Zi. “Guo” is fruit in chinese.

Both Lycium eleagnus pungens and Lycium eleagnus barbarum are manufactured names; there is no such thing, botanically. The berry sold under those names is your normal Lycium barbarum or wolfberry.

It is the red little berry that you often see in our chinese desert and herbal soups. Like red dates, you can buy from the chinese medicine shops and eat it fresh or dried. I like it fresh and it is so cool now to be chewing your own packet of gogi berries like popcorns. It is a real party popper.

I am trying to grow this plant in a pot. What ever you do, don’t go potty and buy the supplement. If you like just brew wolfberries with your tea (or coffee) and make your own gogi tea.

Its recent claim to MLM fame is that it has the highest antioxident content in its class. But please think. Natural concentration is not by itself a great deal. If you need more just increase your dosage or another pill.

  25. Steven,

Ooopps, forgot this is a joke thread. Here’s the gogi joke.

When my favorite MLM friend tried the heavy sell on me, I told my mum about it that weekend. It was at her place and we were all sipping her “Cheng Tng” which had gogi swimming in the soup. I had gogi in my Cheng Tng desert for as long as I can remember.

That friend is no more on my party list. I can’t forgive this if you are chinese and obviously know what gogi is but deliberately conceal the identity of the familiar fruit from start.

  26. Hi KT Wong,

Thanks for the interesting info on himalayan goji juice. I have not tasted the juice myself though I bought 4 bottles already.

There are many varieties of goji – as many as 41 species growing in Tibet alone! It claim to be the 8th Natural Wonder of the World.

Goji facts: Contain 19 amino acids – the building blocks of protein including all 8 that are essential for life.

Contains 21 trace minerals including germanium, an anti-cancer trace mineral rarely found in foods. Only mentioned 2 out of 11 facts.

You are very well read, look forward to meeting you. Now I must go to the medical hall to buy goji berry. Just wondering how many katis needed to consume to enjoy the benefits.

Steven, have you seen the light.

Got to stop here, otherwise Terence will barred me from posting forum.

  27. Hi KT

Read about your say about the Gogi. I heard that its good for the eye sight.

I usually put this in my soups. However, I am very concerned if they have been chemically treated.

Pls advise how I can be very sure its only dried naturally without preservatives and what have you to make it last longer.

Also, it would be good to know where to get the “good” ones.

    Many thanks

    Caroline Gee

  28. Caroline,

I usually get my trusted source from Albert Complex Hawker Centre #02 nearby Bugis, Shop Name is SNOW MOUNTAIN next to the stair case facing the POSB ATM – friendly staff offer advise, good quality stuffs at wholesale price. Besides gogi, there are many other dried foods; herbal stuff which you would be attracted to.

    Rely? Yes, of course

  29. Hi Caroline Gee ,

It should be Hi Steven and not Hi KT,mixed up.

If you want 100% PURE GOJI berries, buy it from any Eu Yan Sang medical shop. quality assured and certified.

At $15 for a tin, you can be assured that it is SAFE and NOT chemically DYED BRIGHT RED.

I chew abt 10-12 RAW goji seeds a day and it is the mOST powerful AntiOxidants as compare to fruits like apples/kiwi fruits.
    (from GNC Health Digest magazine)

    Taste pleasantly SWEET.
    Try it to convince yrself.

BEWARE, u shd nOT take more than 15 a day.

Pl. do NOT buy those LOOSELY pack ones sold in the markets/chinese med.halls, they have all been dyed bright red to attract customers and that is why some are sold as cheap as $3/ for a pack.

  30. Oh! Hi Steven

Thanks for the tip. Will go jalan jalan and check it out too.

I love my Goji in my herbal soup or any other broth, I will throw some into the pot. Will try some in my tea too.

    Cheers!

  31. Hi Steven,

Have you been enlighten by comment from KT on goji berry?

Since so many have endorsed goji berry, I shall elaborate further all the other benefits. But I can’t guarantee that you will receive the same end results as I get from the juice type:-

Contains 4 polysaccharides that are unique to this plant. These unique polysaccharides are necessary for proper immune function and intercellular communication.

Contains more protein than whole wheat! (13%)

Contains a complete spectrum of antioxidant carotenoids, including beta-carotene (a better source than carrots) and zeaxanthin (protects the eyes). Goji berries are the richest source of caretenoids of all foods.

Contains Vitamin C at levels 500 times higher than oranges.

Contains B-complex vitamins, (B1, B2 & B6) necessary for converting food into energy.

Contains Vitamin E (very rarely found in fruits, only in grains and seeds).

Contains beta Sitosterol and an anti-inflammatory agent. Beta Sitosterol also lowers cholesterol ans has been used to treat sexual impotence and prostate enlargement.

Contains essential fatty acids, which are required for the body’s production of hormones and for the smooth functioning of the brain and nervous system.

Contains Cyperone, a sesquiterpene that benefits the heart and blood pressure and alleviates mentrual discomfort.

Contains Solavetivone, a powerful anti-fungal and anti-baterial compound.

Contains Physalin, a natural compound that is active against all major types ofleukemia and treatment of hepatitis B.

So, those who are consuming goji berry, stick to it. At least now you know all the excellent benefits you are getting from it.

  32. Hi Carly and Rely

Are we referring to the same thing ? Goji or kay-chi in canto ? Yes, it’s supposed to be good for eye sight. I am a regular customer with this trust worthy stall called Tuck Soon along (not sure, if it’s North or South Bridge Road lah) but its diagonally opp. the Indian temple. They also sell dried mushroom, dried longan, Y-san, Pak-Kay, Kay-chi, fish maw, bird nest, and all the other essential tonic stuff for making soup etc. Their prices are reasonable too. Check it out !

    Surly true….

  33. Suzhnag @ #42,

Yes. Goji and kay-chi are one and the same.

Less well known are the other parts that we traditionally consume but do not know the relationship.

Although the Goji plant is known for its sweet tasting fruit, there are other parts of the plant that have been used as both a medicine and as a vegetable. The young shoots and new leaves of the Goji Berry plant are cooked and eaten as a vegetable. The taste is similar to water cress.
The root bark is a bitter, cooling antibacterial herb that has been used to control coughs, lower fevers, lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels. It is also used to reduce irritability and to treat recurrent nosebleeds. The bark is harvested in the winter and dried for later use.

I get my supplies of goji and leaves from Pasir Pnajang wholesale market. Does anybody know a source and traditional use of the root and bark? What is it called.

The leaves make a great vegetable soup. We have been traditionally told by our mothers that both leaves and berry is good for eyesight. But the scientific evidence for this is lacking. It appears that the ancients have it right but in the wrong place. Scientifically, it is a great herbal medicine for a host of other things.

  34. Steven @ #43

Don’t fall into the old imperial colonists trick. Selling Asian things back to Asia at a great profit. Before opium. Today goji.

Currently there are some people that sell dried Goji Berries as “Authentic Tibetan Goji Berries” or “Himalayan Goji Juice” at very high prices. This is a scam as no Goji Berries are grown in Tibet!

There is no such thing as wild Tibetan Goji berries. These, too, are normal Lycium Barbarum berries. Ditto for Himalayan Goji. Those are only names created by MLM scammers.

The so-called Tibetan-grown Goji berries are normal Goji berries, like the rest on the market. China is the hometown of Goji. Based on scientific studies, Goji Berry grown in Ningxia China is of best quality.

  35. I am trying to grow the goji plant in a pot. Has anyone tried?

Here is a hint from a posting in a forum.
“I was given some dried goji berries and I soaked a couple in water overnight night then scraped them onto some damp compost and put them in a warm place. They only took about three days to shoot and are now coming on quite well try it for yourself. Easy and cheap. “

She claims 70% success rate. Apparently, takes two years from seed to fruit.

I won’t bother to count. Just get the maid to gut it and then throw into a pot. One month later – Eureka. But check before you announce it to the world. In case, it turns out to be weeds!

We can buy plants on the Internet. I intend to check with our local nurseries too.

  36. Hi Wong KT/others,

Thanks for taking GREAT INTEREST in GOJI berries (kay chee in Canto ) and also SHARING with us how to grow goji seeds.

I thought our climate and soil here is NOT suitable for growing goji pants.

Well, I and so can the rest of you will try to plant them today for fun if it had been proven so easy as stated in the forum.

Is “GAO GEI Choy” plant another name for a goji plant ?

A plant with all a lot of tiny stems with small leaves like the curry leaf plant and and small thorns along its stems like the Bougainvillea plant.

I heard the goji plant is easily available in the market from a book on Chinese herbal medicine???????

    Correct or not ?
    PLs. clarify.

Thanks and appreciate yr sharing with us,

    Steven Chan

  37. Hi Wong KT,

Yes, the AMORs are getting SMARTER to rebrand and repackage opium, GINSENG,GOJI and even claim YOGA “copyright”from America and selling back to Asians thinking that we Asians are Dum Dum .

    What a GREAT JOKE ?
WHen everyone knew YOGA was originated from India.

Nowadays, they have TRUE YOGA exrcises ???
Is there a FALSE yoga ???? lurking around somewhere.

P’haps, MANIkam(Money Come) can throw more light into this.

Funny, how come the Indians are not SUING the Americans false claims in Yoga as MICROSOFT or APPLE did ?

    Puzzling right?

    V. GOOD now China is steaming ahead with its ROBUST ECONOMY and has “SCARRED” the US.

US is being too ARROGRANT and despite getting interrogating the leader suspect and also signs of an imminent militants strike , they chose to be COMPLACENT and
look what happen Sept 11,their twin towers were bombed with an aeroplane.( if you had watched the Discovery documentary of 6 yrs. after Sept 11).
    Your comments pls.

    Steven Chan

  38. Wow! after reading all the comments on this small red seed. Didn’t know that it has such great medicinal value. I must start taking it from now. Suely, want to take a walk during lunch time to Chinatown, think can buy some good wan from these Medical shops there.

    Ah Nee

  39. Wah Dan. Very the cheem. I have taken this “Kee ji” only occasionally, but I think I shall go and get some to munch on now.

My mum used to tell me that they were good for my eyes, but I never thought much of it.

Don’t know much about the other claims though. Sounds too much of a “cure all”.

So to the Chinese Medical Shop today or may be the market will do.

  40. Hi Wong KT/Dan/others,

    GOOD News.

Microsoft has been fined S$ 1 billion for using its market share to CRUSH rivals. :- from Top EU court today, NST papers. Pg. 20 World dated 18/09/07.

This will give consumers MORE CHOICE in the software markets.

Otherwise, we still have to tolerate the “HANG” nuisance problem and RESTART and still encounter a lot of security bugs.

China is still developing its own version of Windows and hopefully it can used by our Asian Counterpart.

    Steven Chan

  41. Thank you Suely. If it is opp the temple, then it should be South Bridge Road. Will probably go to the one at Albert Complex when I go to the Guan Yin temple.

Many thanks for all the tips.

    Warmest Regards
    Caroline Gee

  42. Hi Caroline,

I had checked the label on the container containing the goji seeds specially packed for Eu YanSan,
No preservatives,No colouring and No flavouring.

    So No Worries lah!

    Steven Chan
    See you at 3.30 pm.

  43. Hi All,

    Just to share, not MML

From Secert Recipe entitled the Chinese Herbal Cookbook by Amelia Liang( professional instructor and cookbk author since 1980 )- eat your way to Health and Beauty.

Ok the BENEFITS of consuming Goji,( GOU Qi)

    i) Nourishes the vital essence of the liver and kidneys.

ii) Delays ageing – scientifically proven from its powerful Antioxidant properties ,boosts brain power and brightens vision -this is something I have yet to see.Good eye sight but I still wear specs lah !

Hi,Norlinda and Azlina, mereka pun boleh makan tetap 100% Halal.

    Steven Chan

  44. helo Steven…who is Azlina?..i didnt see her name anywhere?
well…its not MML…its MLM,how to be salesperson lah u,juz joking lah..
my colleague( a guy) always hv it on his desk, but he seem ‘weired’, so never ask him about the seeds..now i know its very good for health?…must try it!…tks for the tips
btw Steven…if its only seeds…no need to be Halal lah!…only when it involves meat & oils, fyi ok

  45. Marketeers are good for generating hype about Noni juice, Spirulina juice, Goji juice, Joyjuice, etc. Fads come and go. Conflicting research shows up every alternate year.

    Just eat everything in moderation.

  46. THANK YOU STEVEN.

From all of us who sampled some goji from you at the SHC dinner tonight at Hans.

It was natural and delicious. I am sure that you were only thinking of showing the can. But it was irresistable.

It was good premium expensive stuff. You could get loosely packed cheaper from market, dry foodstores and herbalists.

A berry is a berry. I don’t think there is a lot of difference in nutritional value. But avoid those with bright red. They have been chemically processed. Natural berries sould have a dull red colour.

  47. Hi WongKT/Manikan/others,

I was NOT just showing the Eu Yan San tin but I would also like SHC members to sample the pleasant sweetness of RAW goji seeds.

What is most important to me, is I would like to SHARE what health benefits which I can derive from goji seeds to members so that they too can enjoy its goodness for their health.

So excuse me,KT don;t get me wrong, I am NOT trying to push for any sales comission and MLM.

Next healthy item is the MANUKA raw honey 15+, the higher the + sign , the more potent is the antibiotic in its raw form and is expensive too.

And later will decide to cut and paste the comments of Goji and Manuka( not Money Come) honey and Etsu collagen under the category of Health as what you did for YUMMY YOGHURT.

Thanks to both of you Manikam and you for SHARING the recipe on making Yoghurt.

I will experiment with it and try out with different flavours and fruit toppings as the saying goes, variety is the “SPICE of Life.”

    With Appreciation,
    Steven

  48. Hi Caroline
So much has been discussed on Goji seeds. I agree with KT that so long the seeds is not bright red, it is not chemically treated. What I learn from my mum is, don’t choose the fat red seeds. Choose the dull red colour which is not too dry & hard. The price from Waterloo St market, 2nd floor is economical & u won’t go wrong if u follow those guideline. I wonder anyone has consume this dry fruit call, “lor hun goa” which u can make soup. It is very good for the throat. My family use to cook this soup often. Choose the big one with dark brown colour. Bigger the better. Otherwise u will be disappointed that it taste bitter & “siap”. Pls try & u will like it.
    Linda

  49. Linda,

Quick seize the opportunity to run out the potentially new MLM rage. The born again from another of our traditional chinese medicine herb collection.

Today goji. Tomorrow must surely belong to “lor hon goa”. Call it some fancy sounding name like the “LHG Complex”. Sell the traditional sore throat/cough herb as the latest newage immortality pill. At a price, that after taking it, they can’t afford to die young.

  50. Hi Linda,

I am curious to find out about ‘lor hun goa’. where do we get it and what are the benefits?

Kt, do you know that you are a ‘wet blanket’. I don’t know whether you have been rub on the wrong end?

You are always ready to run down a person who want to share their stories. Just because a product which is good and are using the MLM method of distribution are questionable.

You are ready to condemn the ‘ang moh, and blame their marketing strategies and packaging that they are out to exploit us Asian.

You think we are fools and not able to discern what is good from what is bad. If the ‘ang moh’ inventions and techologies are bad, we will not be where we are today.

  51. Dan,

    On the contrary.

I think it is a very good investment approach. Many of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) herbs have been turned into a global biz by MLM. Imitation is flattery.

Although I have written this opinion in a light hearted and tongue-in-cheek manner to a lay group, I am serious about its repackaging potential to launch as a new global product.

After all, it has been done from everything from ginseng to goji. So why not this and hundreds of other “undiscovered” TCMs.

Eu Yang Sang has become a huge financial success with just mainly TCM distribution and supply chain management. Imagine what value can rebranding, innovative and proactive marketing add.

You don’t need to have a big budget to do so too in this internet age. Put your “lor hun goa” makeover on the web and you can kick start a potentially lucrative global biz limited only by your imagination.

BTW, I make a mean “lor hon gor” recipe and take it regularly. It makes for a very pleasant drink served both hot or cold. Another creative way to use this is as a base sweet soup for chinese deserts. The fruit is the size of a Kiwi and is brown as is the colour of the drink.

First and foremost, can someone tell us the biological or common English name for the fruit? We can then research the scientific benefits for the fruit.

  52. Continue from #64

    Cannot edit….

Before I forget, thanks to Linda @ #60 for bringing a focus of this promising fruit.

“Lor hon gor” serves well both as a sweet and savoury. As a drink, it has a unique and distinctive taste.

This gives “lor hon goa” a more genuine commercial potential later as a global product. Goji, for all its merits, is not extracted as a drink. It doesn’t go into solution naturally no matter how you boil the little red berry.

And in this biz you want your product also in a natural liquid form. It is by leveraging the tried and tested drink distribution infrastructure that drives the big bucks. Think about soya bean, wheat-to-beer and grapes-to-wine. Also the first step of commercial extracting the essence of anything is to liqudify it.

They make a very successful drink out of goji. They did this by pouring in fruit juices. There is no distinctive taste to goji juice alone. How much of goji’s goodness is forced into the drink is anybody’s guess. OK. If making money is honest, then making money from goji this way is honest…

Not so for “lor hon goa”. It has always been prepared in liquid form. On the product development metric it should do much better keeping a straight face than goji.

  53. Hi Linda Chang,

    Thanks for sharing abt the
    unique fruit called the
    LOR HON GOR.

    Hi Wong KT,
…First and foremost, can someone tell us the biological or common English name for the fruit?

Yes KT, perhaps we can market it under our SHC brand lah !

Linda, may I cut and past your comments of Lor Hon Gor under Health post so more SHCians can benefit from this TCM rather than in your current post ,A Merry Heart doeth good like a medicine which is meant more for JOKES.

In future, if any SHC wants to share any Health products, pls.click the Health Category and write its comments which is more appropriate.

    Hi KT ,

MAnuka Honey will be “COMING SOON” in the Health category.

    Check it out later.

I agree with Dan’s statement…. You think we are fools and not able to discern what is good from what is bad.

If the ‘ang moh’ inventions and techologies are bad, we will not be where we are today.

Cell phone is invented by the Ang Mohs. At the click of the button, you can instantly talk/connect to the other parts of the world and the reception is crystal clear too.

    Isn’t Man GREAT?

    Wake up and bogey KT,

  54. Hi Steven,

I realise that there are a lot of cross-line here. I will try to steer it back to where it come from.

Yes, I am thinking of a Health forum too. There are so much on health matters to share.

Waiting anxiously for you to do the posting.

And Steven, MAN is great, more so the CREATOR!

  55. Talking about “lor hun goa”, I am drinking it this few days for my severe sore throat and cough. For good quality “lor hun goa”, choose the the fruit with dark bright colour and it’s heavy in weight. Smash it before putting in the boiling water to boil for about 20 mins. Cool it and is ready to drink. How effective? I don’t know bcos I am still coughing. :)

  56. Hi Dan,

I am glad that you recognize the beneficial effects of health products.

Dan wrote..Man is not just great but a CREATOR too.

Look Man is now playing “GOD” with our genes and meddling with tissue cultures and inter marrying different kinds of plants/animals together.

Ok so far so SAFE but wait till expts fail and Incredible Hulks rule the Earth. Time to CHABUT!

Try soaking LHG 24/48 hours more. As Steven says, whilst waiting try dancing the nite away. If LHG doesn’t cure you, the execercise will do the job.

If you need it hot, bring it lightly to first boil. Just heat it; don’t kill it. Bring out all the natural goodness and concentrate.

Much of TCM herbs in its natural from is a defensive strategy not remedial. If you already have a cough, preparing and serving it slowly will probably buy you the time to get well more than some magic ingredient in the herb itself. The work taken to bring the concoction into being probably also have a powerful placebo effect. The harder it is to prepare the more efficacy it brings to the belief.

And here is the science. Another high commercial potential herb with free radical scavenging and antioxidant effect .
“The antioxidant effect of Fructus Momordicae extract, FME (mogrosides 75-80%), was studied. FME reduced the stable free radical 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and scavenged superoxide radicals (O2-) generated by a hypoxanthine and xanthine oxidase system. It also scavenged hydroxyl radicals (OH) generated by Fenton reaction. In addition, FME inhibited Fe(II) induced lipid peroxidation in rat cortex homogenates in a dose-dependent manner, as indicated by decreased thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBARS) formation. Oral administration of FME inhibited TBARS and malonaldehyde (MDA) formation in the ipsilateral cortex 30 min after iron-salt injection into the left cortex of rat. FME showed inhibitory effect on 4-hydroxy-2(E)-nonenal (4-HNE) formation induced by Fe(III) injection into the rat cortex. These data suggest that Fructus Momordicae extract has an antioxidant activity against free radicals and lipid peroxidation. “

    Hi Ah Nee

It all depends on whether your severe cough is a cool cough or a heaty cough… or whether it’s a virus-induced one which means you either wait it out or seek the medicine from a western physician. :)

  59. Lee,

Don’t waste time choosing the herb. Just focus on choosing the right partner. And you won’t even remember ever having been ill by the time the dance is over.

If she catches the cough the morning after,
“We Know What You Did Last Night !!!!”

  60. Hi Ah Nee,

TCM takes a longer time to heal when compared with Western Medicine.

TCM is all Natural and Organic while Western med. is just the opposite may also have side effects on the long run.

You can try “KEI PAH LOH” from medical hall . A thick black sticky liquid for coughs/phlegms.

After a few days of taking it, your sticky yellow(hot) or green (cold)phlegm will be spitted out occasionally and drink more warm water and rest more.

You will be UP and LINE-Dancing again to become a “Dancing Queen”

  61. Wow! KT, your scientific finding of this fruits is very “chim” leh. If I try to understand, probably I will have another problem…he..he..he (headache). To cut it short, this herbal drink is very refreshing and its has the natural sweetness in taste and I enjoy it very much though not so much for my cough. :)
Esther, I think my cough is the heaty sort,I am also taking the western cough syrup, probably I just need to rest and I should be ok :)

  62. Hi Ah Nee,

Try something down-to-earth. Stir a couple of teaspoons of honey, preferably not chilled, (I used pure honey) in a glass of ROOM-TEMPERATURE boiled clear water. mix well and gulp it down.

Recently, I was having a very bad cough off-and-on for close to a month. Antibiotics or medicine didn’t cure. A very dear friend taught me this and it worked miracles for me.

  63. Ya, Steven, it’s very iritating to get sick, I am hoping to get well this coming weekend, so that I can be like you said: UP and LINE-Dancing again to become a “Dancing Queen” ..ha…ha..ha….

If I am still not well, then I will take KT’s advice: “Just focus on choosing the right partner, and you won’t even remember ever having been ill by the time the dance is over”….ha…ha..ha…

  64. Hello Gingko,

Thanks for reminding me of taking HONEY also. Currently I have one bottle of Honey at home, but it taste more like sugar than Honey. Do you know of any brand or what kind of Honey is the pure Honey? Headache lah!

    Ah Nee

  65. Steven,

Rather rats than man. Indeed, effects can’t be the same.

The last notable researcer was Dr. Josef Mengele. Nicknamed The Angel Of Death, and the other Nazi doctors at the death camps tortured men, women and children and did medical experiments of unspeakable horror during the Holocaust.

In a more benign experiement, Mengele injected chemicals into the eyes of the children in an attempt to change their eye color. Sounds familiar?

It is coming back with genetic engineering. Maybe that’s why genetic engineering is so hot in developing countries like India and China.

You volunteer. For the sake of science. I’ll take my chances with rodents.

Next time we have walkies in the dark, you can glow for all of us. Batteries not included.

    Hee-hee.

  66. Guys,

Have you ever thought about the science behind honey or other sticky gluey stuff ofted touted as cough remedies?

It may not be due to any active ingredient. It may be just be a regular cleaning and sterilisation process. Any you take the sticky stuff, swallow the phlegm down with lots of water. This will prevent a concentration of phlegm and a viral infection culture in the airways.

Avoiding the build up of germs brings you back to the road of recovery faster.

So besides taking your favorite sticky stuff, rememeber to let it swill in the mouth/throat for a few seconds. Don’t rush to drink it down. Also try to clear your airways at the same regular time.

Just blow your nose and make sure that your throat is clear and clean. Try not to drown yourself in the process.

  67. Hi Ah Nee,

You poor thing. I feel for you. Those irritating coughs always come in bouts. At times, one could hack until like lungs and organs all going to fall out.

I think the brand is NZEE or something like that. I will message you the correct name when I am home tonight. It tastes good and not so diluted or sweet like some brands.

Friend, please don’t dance yet and don’t despair. Rest well and take good care.

  68. Hi Ah Nee and other honey seekers,

I like the honey from the Desaru Fruit Farm. I give them a ring (no no, not the diamond ring) and they deliver the bottles to my door step at 70 Ringgit a bottle.

  69. Hi Dan
The dry fruit,”lor hun goa” is not herb but rather a fruit. The quality depends on the size & colour of the fruit. Darker Brown the better. It is very cheap. 1 fruit cost about 80 cents to 1 dollar for big one. Usually u can get it from the medical hall. Just break it into 4 to 5 pieces & 1 piece for each time of about 4 persons. It is excellent for making soup with some Goji. Need to boil for about 40 minites. I can bring 1 for u if I meet u in our SHC event.
    Hi Steven
Go ahead with the cut & paste for my comment #60 on “lor hun goa” & post them under Health Category, good idea. Don’t wait too long lah as the subject of Health is getting HOT.
    Linda Chang

  70. Hi Ah Nee,

    Are you better now ?

Take Manuka Honey with 10+ or 15+ from NZ. This is a special kind of honey with ANTI BIOTIC properties from the Manuka tree. Will tell you more when i write it out in the Health section posting.
The higher the +, the more potent and the more expensive.

I am taking it daily and I seldom have sore throat.

The one you bought is NOT pure honey but adulterated with syrup.
    Take good care,
    Steven Chan

  71. Dear KT & All,

Thanks for sharing the goodness of Goji berries. I’d like to go to this Pasir Panjang wholesale market that you mentioned and try and get the fresh stuff and try. BTW, are the Goji berries you bought there fresh or dried ones? It’ll be nice to see fresh goji berries as I’ve never laid eyes on them before, so just curious. From the talk I attended last night on Goji Juice, said that the dried ones have lost it’s nutrients and anti-oxidants – I’m doubtful that it’s entirely true, otherwise our chinese medical shop won’t be selling them until today.

Just like you said, MLM scammers are everywhere these days to market Goji juices at exhorbitant prices but then again, it’s our choice whether or not to buy from them after knowing that we can obtain these berries cheaply here. Thanks again for sharing. Regards, Lisa

  72. Hi Linda,

Not all Goji is created equal. There are over 41 varieties in Tibet alone and like a good wine it depends on the type and growing conditions of the particular season and region. Look for Goji that is in liquid form and that is patterned after the ancient Himalayan healers who first discovered this natural wonder.

It is indeed true that goji berry can be purchase from medical shop. But are you aware that you have to consume about one kilo of it which made up to one bottle of goji juice.

Independent clinical studies of Goji can be seen at http://www.pubmed.org and using Goji’s botanical name ‘lycium barbarum’.

  73. Hi Dan

Thanks for the explaination of the different types of goji berry. I believe if one takes goji berry regularly everyday in small quatities, it can work in a long run.

I understand dat u are joining the “Bali” event on 27 Oct. Great, can meet u & bring u “lor hun goa”. So u can wait dat long hor?

  74. Linda,

Get the real thing. Goji berries sell for $12 per kg at Pasir Panjang wholesale. Department stores sell a can version for about double ie $15 per 0.5 kg.

I have goji with homemade yoghurt and other fresh cut fruits every morning. A kg will last you 2 weeks to a month on average.

If you are dieting try this for a magic complete meal replacement. Make a delicious smoothie by blending ice, homemade yoghurt, one banana and goji. Add other fruits to create different flavours eg strawberries, oranges, apple, peaches etc. Healthy and yummy.

You can do this too in a office. Bring your own ingredients and a small blender. Imagine the money you save on slimming courses and lunch.

  75. Linda,

If you try to make a smoothie meal replacement in the office, freeze the ingredients in the blender cup overnight and bring it to the office next morning. Switch the blender on and in a few seconds you can have lunch.

  76. hi here’s something to share with u guys.Talking abt ‘Economy’
An aging man was walking with his friend. He said,’I’m a walking economy.’How so? the friend replied.
He lamented.’My hairline is in recession,my stomach is a victim of inflation and both of these together are putting me into a deep depression!” hee ! hee! enjoy.

  77. Hi Grace,

Poking fun at the guys yea!

Btw, jokes should be posted under ‘A merry heart doeth good like a medicine.

I realised that it has now been swamped by health talks.

Hi everyone out there, share a joke on this post. Let start the jokes juice flowing! You want to stay healthy and live long lives, share your jokes!

  78. KT

Thank u so much for sacrificing your sleep on sharing the magic preparation of goji berries for lunch replacement. It’s indeed wonderful for the ladies to learn this slimming course from u.

    Once again, thank u.

An old car is more apt.

Engines’s wasted; no brakes on the slide; tailpipe’s rusty and probably fallen off; and two wheels flat. Not even a pussy cat is left in the tank. Chances is that the next mile is the last.

One day we may be able to age beautifully. On the same day, your car will probably fly too.
