If we organise the SHC Flea Mart, would you participate?

This is an exercise to determine the degree of interest in the SHC Flea Mart.

We have not identified the venue, cost and date/time to launch the first SHC Flea Mart.  However, I think we should try to determine the degree of interest.  And, let’s also say we have the car boot sales running side by side.  If you have an idea to take part as a seller in the SHC Flea Mart, please add your name here.  If you have something in mind which you like to sell, please do indicate too.  And, make it fun.  If two persons like to share a spot, it’s fine too.  Do note the buyers would be the public, overseas visitors and SHC members.

Hope we can make this event a truly SHC grown project, and fulfil our objective to provide a platform to meet new and more friends.

  1. I would like to participate. I have some stuff to sell from my store room. Let me see, goldfish bowl, candle burners, flower vase, squash racquet, toy figurines, books, photo frames, plastic containers, empty honey bottles from Desaru fruit farm, etc.

Hmmm, wonder who would want to buy such things…

  2. Hi Joy, got your name as the first interested person.

I am second. I have no car boot, so I am thinking of a table to sell small colourful mugs. Haven’t thought of where to get them from though. Maybe from Thailand or Hong Kong. Anybody likes to share a table with me? Half half, draw a line in between.

    Terence Seah

  3. Hi Terence

    Can contribute books to sell.

Cannot commit due to work travels. Love to be involved if I am in Singapore.

  7. Hi Flea Market Wanna-be’s

I have never been in this biz. Guess I would feel very awkward and “bashful”(?) standing beside the stall by the street. Perhaps I could come and render some help to you guys and look-see look-see huh…

  8. Gingko..ya lah me too…so shy, how?
think i lay all the barang2 on the table..then just price tag it..whoever wanna buy can just take the goods & put the money in the jar..sure kena ‘kidnap’ lah the jar!mana ada untung?(profit)..hhmm susah lah!..aiya tak mau lah..i give to karang guni man sudah lah

  9. Hi Terence,

I have books and chess sets for sale. Also some costume jewelleries and T-shirt that I lose interest i wearing.

Will consider a table to share, otherwise my car boot if the premises allowed.

  10. Hi Terence,

I have some personal and corporate gifts that I would like to dispose of. I would be glad to share a table with someone to sell these items.

I’m hoping to be able to donate the proceeds from the sale to St John’s Home. You can donate it in the name of SHC.

Would you be able to find someone to help in manning the table, please? I will pay for rental of the table and/or any incidental expenses incurred.

  11. Hi guys!!

At last, something that SHCs are participating in… unlike many ideas which seem to fizzle out… with the dawn of the next day… hahaha!

I will volunteer to help man the stalls and give the chance for a toilet break to urgent nature calls.

And, if I can muster some books or other items share some table space.

  12. Hi Terence,

Flea Mart? sounds interesting please count me in.
Have lots of things to clear from my store.

    Cheers-bbc

  13. Hi Terrence,

Is this a one time sale or weekly/every month? If I say that I am interested, must I be there with things every sale day?

I do have a camera to sell. So price may be higher than what’s expected at flea market.. and books. Some other things.
Probably car boot or share a table.

  14. Hello hello Norlinda,

Wow! ada semua barang barang boleh lelong huh. Saya dan Suzhang want to partner you leh, boleh tak? Wei wei…..you hor, got so many interesting items to sell, Me & Suzhang will help you to wrap and pack nicely so as to attract customers & mark up $1 more for your selling price! bagus idea you know, customers always go for nice packing items with a little bit of deco in it.

    Hello hello Dan Huang,
How come you got costume jewelleries to lelong huh? We, Nor, Suzhang & myself would like to share the table with you. Nor got more items mah, so we take 3/4, you take 1/4 of the table, boleh? Also if you want to use your car boot, we will follow you… where ever you go……he…he…he….this is very interesting. :)

    Ah Nee

  15. Terence,
6 months ago, I would have been hugely eager to participate. When I moved, I threw out or gave away more than two thirds of what I had, crockery, gift items, decorative stuff, books, even teak furniture. Now I have a rather spartan home. I do have some costume jewellery and display stuff that I might consider getting rid of.
I don’t think it can fill up a table, so if I can ‘tumpang’ with someone, I will see what I can dig up.
So I am game, if the dates and times don’t clash with my teaching schedule.

  16. Wow Terence,

The response is really good. Like Kenneth said, hopefully this Fleamart does not fizzle out but is a mainstay with SHC in time to come.

I’ve got a bunch of items, good and unused, in my storeroom that my mother will not let me get rid of. But I have quite a few of hand crocheted pieces to get rid of.

    Definitely count me in…………….Jie

  17. Ill make myself available as a hire-hand but if the price is right, can consider a sale. Expected tenure balance – not less than 5 years……wont go away without collecting my cpf.

  18. Hi Terence

We’ll like to participate. We have toys, books, clothing, kitchenware, .. etc..etc..

    Cheers
    Ann Lim / Rosna

  19. Terence,

Why don’t you check out Ron Koh for origami. Or you can put the project on burner under Andrew or me. Ron folds the paper, Andrew talks about it and I am in charge of the IPO listing.

    Hee hee

Here’s other flea market projects that has a shhows a lot of promise.

    (a) Refurbished PCs – two footprints. High performance refurbished and overclocked machines from used parts. Second hand portables are very popular.

    (b) There is a big group of cycling enthusiasts in SHC. How about used/new bicycles, peripherals for sale and/or rental. Light foldables that can go MRT will be a sell-out. Also fashion wear for cyclists. Take a leaf from tennis and golf. Don’t worry if you cannot ride a bucycle without trainer wheels. All you need is to look like the coolest dude in the cycle land.

    (c) Dance wear? See (b)

    (d) Check with Patrick. Tour/Travel/Booking desk. Like those tourist centre cubicles in Patpong. We expect a lot of tourists with the national campaign in full swing. Take bookings and Pat will be there with his luxury coach to pick up at the bus stop.

  20. Hi KT,

Would you like to be the Event Organiser for the SHC Flea Mart? You are very creative and have many good ideas. As EO, you can work on the venue, date/time, pricing and other planning matters.

I would ask that we keep financial investment issues separate from the SHC Flea Mart.

    Terence Seah

  21. Terence @ #21

    Sure no problem.

I suggest that I will hold the interim EO position internally until the first related meeting at Scorebot on 11 Feb 2008 where the leadership and structure can be confirmed. This is to avoid any leadership vacuum in the meantime and ensure proper transition.

I am too old to have any pretensions or false modesty. But there are few persons I have in mind which may provide better leadership role for the betterment of such an important project. We will know whether they will be interested to volunteer their services by then.

The leadership structure is non-trivial. We may have to work in a joint submission from SHC and Scorebot in separate roles to govt agencies like Traffic Police, PA, LTA and STB to run out a flea market and booty street event. We cannot just jump into it with a straw poll. The execution team needs to be assembled carefully and purposefully. There are a number of external strategic imperatives to consider.

This project is potentially huge and deserves the best stewardship that the club can offer.

  22. KT, guess you are too busy with many ideas. No problem about not being the Event Organiser of the SHC Flea Mart. We have a fun gathering on the Flea Mart on Sun 17 Feb. We can do some thinking work from there too.

Meantime, please feel free to continue with initiating ideas and suggestions on the SHC Flea Mart.

    Terence Seah

  23. Terence @ #23

The idea of having Origami in the SHC Flea Market is very exciting. In the application, the STB and LTA love to support events with local flavour, Made-In-Singapore content, community effort, themed event, arts and creativity. We owe it to Ron Koh for his valuable contribution.

Andrew is out of town until Wed when we will be having a preparatory session for the meeting on Mon 11 Feb 2008. With his experience, he could be a key player to take the flea market to its full potential. At the same time, Ron has indicated his kind support for the project concept and presence at the meeting. We hope that Origami can be one of the anchor tenant of the Flea Market. We need to anchor this for a number of practical reasons not the least in the event that we are filing for a formal permit to hold a long term flea market.

I understand that we may be helping Ron to administer most of the organisation of the Origami. This may be at Ron’s request. I am contacting him to confirm this even as I write now. We have already started to make the intial contact with the relevant agencies including the local tenant associations, LTA and STB.

Scorebot can meet all the other logistics, operations and functional requirements of SHC Flea Market easily because of our location and natural resources. It will be a turnkey, value- added event for the participants, They only have to worry about turning up with their products.

At the rate of current developments, we may exceed the inital modest expectations to deliver a signature calender event for SHC. SHC may be a major organiser of the event and not just a tenant. I understand that we are projecting for 16 vendors, partly tables and partly vehicles. It is important that we confirm the participants as this has a bearing on the paperwork and how we apply for the permits.

We have to moce quickly. We suggest that starting with the meeting on Mon 11 Feb 2008, we will start to invite the registration for the SHC Flea Market. We hope to have the basic group confirmed by the second meeting on 17 Feb 2008. Note that a formal application requires a number of things including layout and type of tenants to be determined. We must generate a first list even if it is to be modified/updated thereafter.

  24. There are no F&B and electricl/electronics (E&E) items in the list of potential tenants listed at the begining of this thread. This may be because of limitations that prevent the sale of such items in other flea markets. Don’t worry. Now you can.

At Scorebot, the advantage is participants are free to sell a wide range of products and are not restricted to specific types. In fact, participants are encouraged to explore, experiment and have fun. For example,

    (1) F&B – Scorebot have access to both retail and central kitchen operations. If you want to bake a pie to sell or just retail, just speak to us.

    (2) E&E eg IT – Consider selling these items from a vehicle like a panel van which can be used as an inventory stack cum secured locked storage. You can layout tables as counter infront of the vehicles. Electricity can be pulled from the participating shophouses so that you can demo/test/service the equipment for the customer. This is excellent since you now are able to sell refurbished E&E at higher price as working units. Otherwise, in typcial flea markets the presumption is that E&E do not work.

There are many other advantages and incentives to have the run and control of a venue like Scorebot.

Since it is a SHC community project, we can get creativein marketing. We can cross-sell and cross-promote eg by using Scorebot voucher systems to balance demand. Eg if Product A are hot sellers we can quickly create pair selling discount vouchers to promote slower moving Product B. If Product B sells as a result of the voucher given from the intial sale of Product A, the B vendor may credit a commission to vendor B. This closes a win-win loop for the process.

It is almost impossible to run co-operative community schemes like this in other locations. For obvious reasons, the main event organiser is likely to be very unhappy if vendors start to solicit business amongst themselves.

    Go for it.

  25. Terence,
I think you must meant someone else. I don’t have ‘loads of things’. I used to, but have given lots away. I may have 2 or 3 boxes of stuff but I won’t be needing a whole table.

  26. Flea Market, good idea cos got lots of soft toys and other nick nacks to load off.

Wouldn’t mind sharing a table too.

    Thanks!

  27. It’s nice of everyone to start thinking about participating in the SHC Flea Mart. Keep the ideas coming in, while we look at identifying a suitable place.

Guess our choice is limited. Have you visited China Square Flea mart? What do you think of it? I think the place is nice, if the sun doesn’t get on you. Got to be at the right side of the building. Comments appreciated.

Dont forget Yew Kwong is bringing us on a tour of Sungei Road and Little Road on Sun 17 Feb.

    Terence Seah

  28. Hi KT,

KT, basically, it is important that if ScoreBot can provide the venue, the logistics and acceptane from the shops, then we can go ahead, and plan to use the place outside ScoreBot. Once it is determined that Bali Lane can be used, with no objections from the neighbouring shops, then work out a cost to SHC members. My guess is a good 20 tables/car park lots, and we can confirm this minimum number.

20 tables of SHCians participation may be small initially, but success with drawing in the crowds is equally important. We need to start somewhere.

Hmm, I am dreaming of selling 40 porcelain cups on the first day. This can be a fun SHC community project.

    Terence Seah

  29. Perhaps, a better approach will be as follows :-

    1. Identify a suitable place. Identify its owner.

    2. Assuming it’s at bali lane (& its adjacent space), talk to its owner(s). Tell him/them exactly how many tables/lorries there will be, the dimensions of the tables & the size of the lorries. Open ourselves up thoroughly. No doubt, no mistake.

    3. Leave all applications for permits, licensing to the owners to deal with. This way, we wont run the risk of missing out one. (I cant see any objection that can be raised by the shops nearby). The lease contract will ensure this.

  30. Tim @ #13

    Good points. But no worry.

At Bali Lane, Scorebot will handle all the necessary processes. As I said before, all participants have to do is to turn up.

Normally, it doesn’t happen this way. The main point of contact is the area event organiser. They leave you with either very little infrastructure support or you will have to pay a premium for it. The reason is they either put up generators, toilets etc or uplift the price on arrangements made with the surrounding shops.

In practise, the flea market participants don’t get to contact to directly deal with the shop owners.

First, you often know your actual allocation at the last minute.

Secondly, the event organiser will insist on using their contractors, partly because of licensing issues. All arrangements made by the organiser is therefore fixed before you start for all practical reasons.

There are a lot of variation costs from a flea market operator if it is organized properly. Don’t take anything for granted unless there is literally nothing you need and everything is provided by you. In which case, you are probably squatting in some way or other by definition.

Under our existing licensing scheme you are probably taking a number of risks here eg with the authorities, organiser and/or the property whose frontage you occupy.

  31. Terence @ #29

Yes. Scorebot can meet all the requirments that SHC may require for a turnkey confirmation. What we need to do is to confirm the minimum tables and the products.

Experience flea marketeers know what they need. This is probably not so for the SHC members. But at least, we need to confirm what kind of products they are selling then we can help to arrange support. Once the flea market is running, you can assume if things are not there it would not be available.

A street event is not a shopping mall under one command and control. It is far more complex. Unlike other countries, no one runs fly-by-night operations in Singapore. Everything is conducted properly. Otherwise, the ones who will suffer will be the participants. By the time the flea market opens, the organiser is already paid.

Many first-timers are caught out here. They do not understand that everything is planned to the last detail and implemented before the flea market opens. There are a lot of paperwork and logistics to take care of.

A street event is not a shopping mall under one command and control.

  32. Terence,

I can edit Tim’s (and other’s) comments but not my own. This is fun.

    Now what was he saying…

    The Phantom of the Forum

    hee-hee

  33. Hi KT,

All forum participants are not allowed to edit comments. SHC Event Organisers are allowed to edit their Posts for the purpose of registration and event updates only.

    Terence Seah

  34. Terence @ #34

Alas. The chance to save the world. Just missed it.

Now it is all up to a black man in a white house.

  35. KT @ #35,

If he wins, I give your USD 10.
If she wins, you give me USD 12.

This is a good example of Flea Mart bargaining. This comment cannot be edited. So, it will stay until Nov 2008.

    Terence Seah

  36. Terence,

    OK done.

I take your 12:10 odds for a Obama win. Is this just Super Tuesday or the White house?

Is this hedge or unhedge? US/SIN is 1.414240 today.

I didn’t take unfair advantage of time. I could have waited until after lunch and pretend that I was out.

The Kennedy’s have embraced Obama on TV. Black man is winning in white states including Connecticut. White squaw cries crocodile tears on TV over 47:50 candidates split to black chief.

Pays to be honest. Pays more to watch
TV closely before betting on primaries.

    Hee hee

  37. KT,

It’s a deal. Unhedged at today’s rate and just for a Super Tuesday win. Don’t have to wait for White House.

Full results should be in soon.

    Terence Seah

  38. My money is in the middle, unhedged.

Assuming they really must have a “black” for a change, they cant hv Obama who, having been americanised, isnt so black.

He has to be the unadulterated complexion Osama, not necessarily Osama b l tho……………..

  39. Tim @ #39

Important is white at heart. Its all wholesome fresh dairy cream on the inside.

  40. So, KT, all the more the angmoh shd vote for osama………..my migrated neighbor who has become another Sam last xmas…..he sells ice cream made from the purest of cream fresh from his wife.

  41. KT, read you @#31 & 32. All said, Scorebot shdnt be carrying any more costs than wd be defrayed to and borne by the flea market operators thru SHC, and that’s fair.

You. a nut to want to edit tim’s comments?

Alright since you like to be a eunuch, I’ll edit yr appendage to make you one. The earliest opportunity we meet is 1102………come in a sarong, that will make my job easier.

  42. Terence @ #38

Wah, you really serious. I didn’t check my supercomputer for simulation…

Ok. Seriously, its on. We’ll have the early result. But to be precise, it has to be the selection of the democratic candidate. “Super Tuesday” is just a block in a series of on-going primaries. There is no definite result (unless one candidate drops out which also means a deterministic outcome for the democratic candidate) except for some state wins and some losses.

When I win, I’ll give you a chance for revenge on the Presidential race.

    Hee hee

Tim, what about a winner(s) take all pool. The odds are marked to market. S$10 each. If two persons backs A and one person backs B, the theoretical odds for B is 1:3.

  43. Tim @ #42

Yes. Come attend the 11/2 meeting at 4pm in Scorebot. We’ll be discussing the spoils of war for the fl;ea market.

On appendages, can you design one with telescopic extension by remote control? White squaw needs one badly too to win against black stud.

Can also sell at flea market. We are at the fringe of Geylang and Little India wants BIG.

    hee hee

  44. Not a bad idea to sell appendages and sausages left over from this CNY………….why is godd so unfair to gift you with such a good brain, eunuch or not……………

(Signing out now, meet you folks again probably Monday 1102, nOT computer access liao but if got Card games huh, can reach me @ 96695702……….HAPPY & PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR !)

  45. Hi Terence

    Blessed and prosperous CNY.

Btw, if your top page no 3 refers to me. please correct my surname. TY.

    Cheers, Andrew

  46. Hi Andrew,

It has to be the popular Andrew Kuan. My mistake. I have amended the surname.

  47. Dear all in this Flea market:

Interested person(s) may sell them and keep the proceeds…. .

Please let me know your interests through my email:kuanandrew@gmail.com.

    Thanks

    Andrew

  48. Andrew @ #48

Happy CNY. We all remember you for the generosity of books.

Why don’t you set up stall yourself at the flea market and donate net proceeds to SHC’s favorite charity – themselves. Hee hee

Don’t worry about manning the table. SHC Flea Market is designed to be a noble enterprise. We are thinking of hiring people from homes and charities for busy members.

  49. Dear KT

Am open to your ideas. TY

Blessed prosperous and happy CNY too.

    Cheers, Andrew

  50. Hi KT #43,

So, can we consider Super Tuesday a draw? This means we have to be patient and wait till August.

She can save America, but I am now thinking he can save America faster.

    Terence Seah

  51. Terence @ #51

No, its not done. The fun is not over.

The bet is on the democratic nomination. The only result from an intermediary process to nomination like “Super Tuesday”, is if one candidate withdraws like Edwards. This obviously did not happen in this case. So we are still in the running for the democratic party nomination.

What are friends for? USD $5 to fold now. You give, I take and we’re square. Hee-hee

Think carefully now. This is what having a view and acting on it means. A 101 in financial training.

Consider this. Draw is the lead runner’s loss. White squaw is suppose to win hands down. Black Chief has gain a lot of ground and momentum in a very short time to be able to draw to neck-to-neck level.

Here’s my honest opinion. On a straight run to the finish, black man will roost in white tepee. But with so many months to go, we can expect anything but straight run. Consider this too before cutting your losses.

Don’t worry if she or he can save America. In all probability, both will not be able to do anything whatever happens next. The Titanic has already hit the ice. Worry about losing US$5 now or US10 later.

I like this part. Run or fold is your choice. If we run, we can leave this standing until August convention and even double up from time to time.

    Pressure, Stress …..

    Hee-hee

  52. Hi KT,

Let’s carry on until the Democrat nominee for President is chosen.

If I fold it now, it’s USD 5. At most, my loss is USD 10. And, we still can have the fun until August. After that, we can double it up.

    This is not 50:50. It’s 51:49.

    Terence Seah

  53. Terence @ #52

That’s the spirit. You have set a valuable example for all. The following message is for everyone.

We have to learn to love to manage risk. Here you can lose US$ 10 but you can also win US$ 12. Given that anything can happen in the primaries within 8 months, the theoretical chance of any one of the two candidate winning is even.

A 50 : 50 bet on odds of 60 : 50 in your favour is a very good bet for you. I am the sucker in the game.

In the brave new world of DIY (Do Investments Yourself),we will all have learn to profit from risks or be left behind.

This is not a game of pure chance. You learn very little playing 4D or Toto. This is a game that teaches you to bet on views formed by everyday information, news and facts. If you learn to form views on the primaries, you will also learn to digest and mine the world for the views to trade on.

Without a view you cannot trade. It’s not about being right or wrong. You can still be initially wrong about a view and still end up making money. This is what the art of successful investment is all about.

Typically, an average person would have $500K in liguid assets on retirement. Do you want to risk all that or $10 on your first real bet?

If losing $10 teaches you to place and see through your own bet then it may probably be the best investment in experience you have ever made even if you lost the money.

Or would you rather be forced wait until you are forced by circumstances to bet your retirement fund. And face the wrath of the market as a novice without a clue what to do.

Every risk taker, from gambler to investor, knows that you have to pay to learn a game. The trick is to lose small when you start in order to win big later.

    jeremy

  59. Hi KT,

Can you check if Scorebot can get ready for a Flea mart, for 15 tables on Sun March 16, starting 1400 hrs and finishing 1800 hrs, at the place behind the bus stop. Please also indicate cost. Lighting is not required. 15 tables, no chairs. Please advise cost too.

If yes, we would initiate the first SHC Flea Mart, together with a SHC Gathering.

    Terence Seah

  60. Wah!..so near oredi ah?..better start digging my ‘karang guni’items.

Btw..the venue..don u think its a bit too secluded?..so quiet at one corner, wud anybody pass there? only those ppl who alight at the bus stop rite?..why not at the more open space in front of Golden Landmark?..boleh or not?more ppl will pass this route.. don want to lelong then go home with same loads again, very funny leh!..hahaha

  61. Terence @ #62

Very cheap and effective if DIY.

$10 per table. 5 X 4 ft. wooden top and iron feet. 24 hours eg 12pm to 12pm.

Additional table cloth for $3.80. We can keep the cloth for future use.

Since we have paid for it, anybody who wants to stay over to test the night market are welcome. Bali Lane has a hot nightlife. If you want to do it for one day, I advise Fri or Sat night.

Lighting for night market is not a problem. There are a number of options. It adds something to the cost depends on need. But it is a good longer term plan. In our weather, the favorite time for night market is actually late evening and night.

Also suggest that you pick 7 to 9 March in line with a large street festival by STB. This is the start of a series of such activities nationwide to bring the Buzz back to the street ahead of the IR opening.

Think about also whether we need advertising (print and internet).

  62. Hi Jie, Yew Kwong,

To combine the SHC Flea Mart with another monthly gathering would make the event very successful. My problem is I am not available in Singapore during Sat 8 or Sun 9 March. But let’s see if the dates make sense. KT has a point about using the 8th or 9th March. I rule out Fri 7 Mar, for now.

    Yew Kwong,
Do you have a cycling event on 8 or 9 Mar 2008?

Jie, I would need your assistance to cordinate this event. Do you prefer a 8 or 9 Mar?

If either 8 or 9 Mar is not suitable, then we will stick to Sun 16 Mar 2008 afternoon. Previous events indicate Sun afternoon attracts bigger participation of leisure activities.

We make this decision, once I hear from both of you.

    Terence Seah

  63. Terence @ 65

Walking falls on Sat, 8 Mar. Cycling takes on e nx Sat, 15 Mar.

Sat afternoon is a gd time especially fr 2 pm onwards till late into e nite. If time permits we can camp n chit chat at ScoreBot will e wee hrs or nx morn.

  64. Hi Terence, Yew Kwong & KT,

Seeing that we are only starting to co-ordinate, it is best if we give ourselves a little time and do a better job of it. I think half of the participants are working, so lets have the Flea Mart on the weekend of 15/16 March at the earliest.

I guess we are leaving the logistics to KT Wong and Scorebot, as indicated in his last comment.
I presume licences/permits are all in order.?? Storage and placings etc…..

To my mind, it is best if we start at 4pm on Saturday, { gives us time to organise and cooler too } and overnight if we have enough game people, like Yew Kwong {our night bird } said.

Let’s meet very soon to discuss this.

PARTICIPANTS….please get your barang2 together and price tag them with a code as to indicate that it belongs to you.
    eg…..JLH $1.00,
Discuss among yourselves your partnership. This is to ensure there is no mix-up especially with so many people involved….and we are there to help each other out…..if the owner of sale item stepped out for a minute.

Lets do it SCHians, its going to be fun and really bring us all together. It will also be very lucrative as time goes on. I am getting excited just thinking about it.

Any input or ideas are most welcome………Jie

  65. Jie @ #67

Can you call a meeting quick. Indicate a time. I will check Scorebot’s availability.

Sign up is important. It is necessary for documentation and submission, if any. For logistics reason, we also need to know how many and what they intend to do.

One big advantage in Scorebot is that we can use on-line and credit card payment with full internet support.

We have made a contingent arrangement to post SHC Bazaar (I suggest changing “flea market” to a higher end “bazaar” label for obvious reasons) on this website.

    http://www.doyourlisting.com/WelcomePage.do

Click on it and check it out. This site has a good multimedia interface with spanning video and a good coupon engine. Participants can post their products and advertise from sale before, on and after the event. Technically, we can transact anytime on-line. It is up to decide on the rules eg sale and/or delivery only on bazaar date (…and after?). Customers can also pre-buy products using coupons or buy coupons as presents for friends etc etc. Totally flexible and limited only by imagination. We can implement any scheme related to frequent flyer or discount coupon programs.

YK, if you have a better IT idea or 2GreenDots; or better, parallel postings – no problem. Just say and it’ll be done.

The only problem is we may sell out before the event. Anyone visiting the bazaar may only be for collection and window shopping.

But still great. We can spend time chatting about how to spend the profits or put profits into 4D. Markets are closed. But we can get Tim to tell us how to turn the few thousand dollars into millions playing Serbia versus Kosoyo or Taiwan vs China for the East European Cup.

    Hee-hee

  66. Hi,

Jassmine,………. you are most welcome. We will try to make life as easy as possible, so that we will have more fun at the bazaar.

KT………we have not heard from Terence since his comments and latest posting.
In the meantime, your idea of on line selling sounds good. The buyers can come to the actual flea mart/bazaar day to collect their purchases, thereby generating a better/larger crowd. But this is a little far-fetched for those who are not computer savvy, or do not have the attachments to feature a photo of the items on sale. Maybe you or Yew Kwong can help on this.

Just received SMS from Terence. Lets have a meeting on this as soon as possible. KT, I am free most days and early evenings. Accustomed as you are on public speaking and organisation of Scorebot facilities, I would take it Terence would like you or Yew Kwong to be EO. I will try to help as much as I can, especially in the running of the actual Fleamart/ bazaar.

It has been decided that 15 March is “THE DAY”
Hope to hear from you as soon as possible, and like they said…..let’s get the show on the road……………Jie.

  67. Jie and Jasmine

Like to include my barang barang (assortment of books) with your table/stall(s)? Count my portion in please.

  68. Noted Andrew,

We’re trying to set a date for a meeting, hopefully the participants will be able to attend.

Will keep you and others posted…………Jie

  69. Hi Jie n Jasmine

Am not sure can run the stall, so I will either tonpang or share stall.

  70. Hi Andrew,

You enjoy the fun particpating in the event, and meeting new friends. Come and find your Flea partner. Negotiate with someone who is also participating. Two persons can share a table.

    Have fun.

    Terence Seah

  71. Hi Terence, Yew Kwong & KT,

I really don’t know who else is involved in this project.

But it would be good if we could meet to establish the workings and guidelines of this flea market. eg. areas of responsibilities,
costs, sharing of tables, advertising etc…etc….

Is possible to meet this Monday late afternoon at 3pm.???? Once we have streamlined the guidelines, we could call for a meeting of all participants/and those interested on 1 March at 2pm.

    { The reason I am putting this out as ‘comment’ is because I understand some people do not read their Emails. }

Please respond and I hope this meets with your schedules………Jie

  72. Jie will discuss and agree with KT, on all that is necessary to get the Flea Mart running. We do not have a committee, and all discussions can be done on this Post and forum.

Jie, feel free to meet up with KT, and participants wishing to join you can do so. Please work with KT to manage the SHC Flea Mart. I recommend keep it simple, for this first event.

Meantime, we shall organise the monthly gathering in another Post, same place, date and time.

    Terence Seah

  73. Hi AndrewK

    @#73

You are welcome to ‘tumpang’ your books on ‘my’ table. I’ll sell them for you.

    JassmineT

  74. Jie @ #75

I am busy preparing my special chicken rice recipe on Monday. Hee-hee

Mon/Tues late evening, say, 7 pm is better. or Wed whole day. Or Wed whole day.

  75. Jie @ #70

I share your concerns and given it a bit of thought. Think of an auction. Items are registered and posted before the auction.

    (a) Register particpants.

    (b) Invite all participants to start submitting lists (description of item and reserve price) and photos, if any. We will provide an internet interface for them to register their items. They can do so anytime before the event. The earlier they post, the more exposure the item will have and so the probability of the item sold at a higher price. So the website kills two birds with one stone – helps us with the registration and helps us to sell.

    (c) All registered participants can bring in any item for sale on the event day. We will register items not previously registered on the day.

That’s all for the main part concerning participants. Simple and Easy.

Now for some behind the stage notes.
    (i) Unlike a flea market, we can provide delivery for items not sold OTC (over-the-counter).

(ii) This means we can handle big, bulky or unconventional items; and items that is not practical to move to site. Eg if you are clearing house you may wish to sell your furniture, koi pond with the fishes or your second car.

(iii) Technically, we can register any items. This includes services.

(iv) On-line sales is huge but suffer from the rather inadequate protection offered by, say, Ebay or Paypal. Ebay has improved this with Ebay Live. We fill an important gap by providing a physical intermediary like Ebay Live. The potential is huge and we are rendering a great service to the bazaar and on-line community.

Guys. Here’s your chance to get rid of all your unwanted. Spouse/partner ?!.

Hee-hee. Don’t let your imagination run that wild. We allow only nice things to be sold …

  76. A @ # 80

TY? What? Where? Who? Never mind. Can I “chop” a share too.

Old chinese saying “Money Grab first. Ask Later.”

    I, Old Chinese…

    Hee hee

  77. Hi Gals N Guys,

I would like to volunteer to help man the stalls whoever needs it urgently and give the chance for a toilet break to nature calls.

  78. Hi Steven

If you are keen, you can man the stall I will share with JASMINE. If you are game, I share net profits after costs with you.

Besides books, may have “new/unused” camping torches, picture/certificate frames and some electrical components. You do simple recording too.

    You suggest the ratio.

    Cheers, Andrew

  79. Hi Steven #84 & Kenneth #11

Thank you for volunteering to help out the vendors in time of need. I am sure you will be greatly appreciated. Any more hands up????

    Hi Vendors,

    1. As requested by Terence, we are keeping this flea mart simple. So there will not be any meeting as such prior to the day.

    2. To quote KT Wong # 31
“AT BALI LANE, SCOREBOT WILL HANDLE ALL THE NECESSARY PROCESSES. AS I SAID BEFORE, ALL PARTICIPANTS HAVE TO DO IS TURN UP.”

    3. To reiterate, a 5′ x 4′ table rents for $10. You can bring your own tablecloth or buy it from KTWong for $3.80.

    4. Talk to another vendor and have a buddy system to help each other out and share a table.

    5. Price your wares to sell { ie. if you really don’t want to take it home. } Imagine lugging them all back home, maybe spend more good money on taxi fare.

    5. These are just a few nitty gritty thoughts on the up coming flea mart. If there is any way I can help, please do not hesitate to ask.

    Tks & rgds…………Jie

  80. Hi Yew Kwong,

    # 79…….I guess there really is no need to meet after all. Will be seeing you some other time on a different occasion. My comment # 86 explains.

    Tks & rgds……….Jie

  81. Terence,
I went through some of the stuff left over from the move and I don’t think they are worth lugging to and fro. I might just give them away to the Salvation Army again. So I won’t be selling anything at the flea mart, but I will be there to look see look see if I can pick up some things.

  82. Jie @ #87

I suggest that we still meet on Tues 7 pm as suggested by YK. If the timing is not convenient suggest another.

There is still a number of planning processes before execution and operations. Eg we will still have to confirm the number of participants and go through a registration process.

  83. Dear Jie,

Sorry cannot edit. Continuing from # 89.

There are many planning options available. We have to choose and make decisions on the event parameters. Then we will have to call a meeting for the participants and brief them what to expect when they actually turn up. They must also be clear what they need to do.

Eg how do they register their products; what they can sell and how; how do they find out if the products are pre-booked and at what price; how do they find out what are their delivery commitments; how is money collected; how do they expect to be paid. If they have special requirements then they need to have a project chaser line to ensure that their requirements are fulfilled on the day.

We always try to make it effortless and painless for the participants on the day of the event. This happens only because planning take care of everything. Otherwise, it’ll always result in a mess on execution. Its never easy on the planning or the planners. We carry their burden so that they have less to carry.

It is an important and noble responsibility.

  84. Mary @ # 88

    Hold on.

You may not have to lug them to the SHC Flea Market if they are bulky items. We appreciate that many members may be in your shoes. This is why we have a proposal to solve just that. The sales will be finalized at the event but will be sold at the corresponding on-line listing.

We can confirm this at the tentative planning session on Tues.

You can still give away part or all your proceeds. They’ll probably appreciate it better. We’ll be happy to channel it to your favorite charity.

  85. Hi KT, Yew Kwong & VENDORS,

    Re; # 89 & 90,

The aim now is to keep this Flea Mart, plain and simple. We have the list of vendors already and I think they will re-confirm with you, and who they are sharing the tables with.

    So VENDORS….LETS HEAR FROM YOU.

I agree that all dicussions can be done on the post and Forum……………Jie

  86. Good for you Jassmine and AndrewK.

Eleanor Chan and I will be sharing a table.

    Regards…..Jie

  87. Seems like all cogs are in place and SHC’s first flea mart is steaming ahead. I
ll be there to see what I can buy and then sell straightaway to make a profit…….will lelong on the floor or work hearder as a hard-sell foot peddler.

If anyone thinks of sharing a bed with me after all these chores of unpacking, selling & repacking, do knock on #12-101 landmark hotel……………..

  88. Huh Lina, me forgot abt date & time?

Isnt it on 150308 from abt 4-6.30 p.m.?

Whatever, room #12-101 at Landmark is booked for that weekend so whether it’s a pretty with a bounty slung over her back knocking the door or a confused, unkempt, haggard, x-eyed sweaty ah sor, they’re all welcomed.

  89. Hi Tim

    @#96

A gentle reminder: You have agreed to purchase a WEBSTER’s (gilded) Encyclopedic Dictionary at my pre-mart ‘soft launch’ for the princely sum of $20. It’s packed, together with the free gift, and awaiting delivery.

‘buy and then sell straight away to make a profit’- at the same venue? No way, right? But I do have wares you can make a profit from re-selling if you have the lobang. Make sure you linger at Andrewk and my stall on bazaar day.

    JassmineT

  90. Hi Joy,

I hope you will make an effort to participate in the Flea mart.

    Listed Vendors/Participants & Interested Parties,

Terence and KT Wong have reserved 15 tables for the occasion. Please respond. SHC depend on you to make this a success.

    Tks & rgds……………..Jie

  91. Hi KT,

I confirm we would take 15 tables for the SHC Flea Mart. Scorebot should manage all the logistics needs.

Meantime, if there are any specific questions, please share them with us, so that we can toss them openly. This is the first time we are organising a flea mart. I agree we should have a meeting, after we raise all the Qs of concerned. In particular, the layout of the tables at Bali Lane.

    Terence Seah

  92. Jass, what you reminded is correct.

Frankly I dont mind if yr WEBSTER Encyclopedic is not gilded so long as I am guided thru the A-Z otherwise I wd probaby use it as a shield when it rains, not doing justice to what Webster had wished.

Heee, dont pack it pls, I like to examine what’s inside….perhaps, a note saying it so explicitly “2nite, Rm 12-101 landmark. ok………..?”

Of cos can make $ fr ‘buy-sell straightaway at the same venue” You obviously dunno what an accomplished salesman can do, and what more he can do if he throws in freebies such as an shiatsu kiasu massage?

Heee, I am not abt to make a lobang with whatever ware or tool you hv but may consider it if you can cajole KT to make that irreversible irreparable plunge.

And pls make sure you & Andrewk are both on the same table, whatever pattern you both choose for yourselves. And then I’ll linger but wont tingle and if necessary add that tinder to start the fire….heee, remember the chinese saying “gunn chai liat huo” (dry wood easily starts a fire)? .

  93. Hi Tim

    1. The WEBSTER is not water-proof. Use it as a linguistic shield to ward off ‘arrows’ pointing your way.

    2. It’s packed (not wrapped) and open for inspection. It’ll be delivered to The Tanamera on 7th March.

    3. Admire your optimism in your ‘buy-sell…at same venue…with freebies’ modus operandi.

    4. No lobang, no profit.

    5. Fear not. At least one of us will be AT the table with service par excellence.

    JassmineT

  94. helo..
Sori i hvnt been reading this thread lately..
so pls confirm the dates, is it 15th or 16th Mar ah?…so many cakap2 but these 2 dates mentioned so many times leh? who are the official organiser?..Terence,YewKwong,Jie? apa macam? sori..im so blur & ask too much hor?

I am actually rather ‘nervous’..cos donno how to lelong in public..so I need help from my buddies…AhNee,Suzhang,Carly,Molly,OiCheng,Rene,& newbie Hamidah…boleh tolong!tolong! come join the fun lah!…hehehe

  95. Alamak, sori ..forgot some more buddies…Lily,Dolly,JuneChan,AnnTo..wanna join us?..got anything to lelong?
Let’s make this event a success!

  96. Hi Terence

Perhaps, like to update the forward:

    a) confirmed date/time/location of the Flea market
    b) table partnership/arrangement
    c) pertaining details to sign up and
    d)logistics……

    Thank you

  97. Hi Jasmine at#104

Heh, deliver to Tim at The Tanamera this Saturday 1 March when you will meet him, for the soft launch at S$20net w/o GST.

Save on one part of the supply chain and give Tim more tim(e) to roll over a few tim(es).

He won’t bargain further, this to be witnessed by 25 of us!

  98. Hi Norlinda,

No need to be nervous. You are doing the world and yourself a good deed. By getting rid of your surplus which may be someone’s treasure.

Just be yourself, you have the gift of the gab, so right there you have no problem.

If it helps, we can try to get our tables next to each other, and I will help you as much as I can.

    Be seeing you & regards………….Jie

  99. Not at all,to come in time for a damsel in need is an honour; a friend in n is a friend indeed.

    ????, Nor!

  100. Jass,

    1. You worry me when you said that the WEBSTER is as a “ward off” linguistic shield. Look, I hang garlics all over me and i dont see any need to talk. Even if you beat them in talking, you cant beat them in biting. No wonder you hv priced yr Webster to sell……..

    2. I now understand why it has to be packed and, let me add, placed in the same long box which is opened for good brothers’ (ho Hia tee) inspection. “It’ll be delivered to The Tanamera” Hahaha, I dont live there so I hv no opinion here. AndrewK, what say you….the long box with the Webster in it?

    3. Thank you and it does work.

    4. “No lobang, no profit”. Totally agree. It’s the oldest profession too.

    5. I still dont understand why people want to choose the table over the bed. For me. it has to be the bed and ON it, relaxing as I wait.

AndrewK, you must hv seen Jass’ Webster to know that you can also roll on it. That being the case, I dont mind taking it earlier but Jass will hv to show me how it’s done & bcos I am stupid, she’ll hv to roll & roll until I say stop. Of cos AndrewK can alternate with her to roll while I hv rock n roll with the gals in the pool.

  101. Hi Tim

    1. The WEBSTER will be a blessing if you forgot proper grammar and wondered whether to write “You worry me…”

    2. A long box is expensive. fortunately the WEBSTER does not need it. It’s personal delivery and will be delivered to a Mr Tim Liu and to no one else.

    Hi AndrewK

Considering his hands will be full in the pool, it’s better to delivery it on the 7th.

    JassmineT

  102. Hi Jassmine

You decide which is better: place it on the deck bed by the pool for him on 1 March while he swims or delay delivery to 7 March and charge a nominal storage surcharge of Stg 1 per week.

On 1 March, let him determine his rolling in water or on the sun deck bed for all of us to view. Possibly, a spectacular Bollywood performance!

Both days ought to be fine, you would be generous with him, don’t add on GST yet during this Budget year.

  103. Jie

I would probably be at Park Mall that afternoon with Felix the Cat and other feline creatures learning the art and craft of deboning a goldfish. So it is unlikely that I would drag my goldfish bowl and other stuff to class. I might drop by the flea mart for a look-see look-see after that.

You might want to put a listing in “5 Things You can Do Today” and “What’s Up This Weekend” in The Straits Times and in the IS Magazine to publicise the event. Just my half rupiah worth.

    Joy

  104. Eh eh Nor Sayang

I already said I will help you jaga your “stall” when you need toilet break. So dont worry. Hope you get your table next to Jie then I can help both of you when you need to take a break, but cannot at the same time hor.

  105. Joy,

Its a shame you are committed to slaying your goldfish. Don’t you think its best you give it a reprieve and join in the fun at the flea mart. Bring your other barangs, but leave your goldfish swimming in its bowl at home.

Yes, to generate a good turn out, I have thought of getting SHC’s Flea Mart featured in the Straits Times. { I say, I say,… great minds do think alike. } On top of that Eleanor and a few kind souls have offered to hand out flyers. But all that was shot down when we were told to keep things simple.

Maybe it is best we keep it simple. After all we do need the vendors/participants in place first. So far we have only 3 tables committed. Let me know if you have a change of heart.

    Tks & rgds………….Jie

  106. Yeah Norlinda & Caroline,

Even if you don’t sell a thing, just relax and enjoy the fun of a get-together, sitting around and shooting the bull. That’s the spirit……
If you do sell something , that is the bonus.

So come on people…..join in the fun and the experience of a flea mart………Jie

  107. Hi Jie,

Yew Kwong has a cycling event on the same Saturday. He is very keen to support the Flea Mart too. He will come after the cycling.

Meantime, if the table number is right, can Yew Kwong and Myself take Table No 1? Want to chob a good number.

For others who are taking part in the Flea Mart, please register here. This is to enable the organisers to do the planning work.

    Terence Seah

  108. AndrewK, you also steady, man……telling me that you can roll on her book but want me to do it instead. You whole life like that one huh? Heee, no wonder………

Ok, Jass, will stuff my wallet with another $20 and take delivery when it comes.

Terence, back to what this thread is all about………..

Labelling yr table 1 good enuough meh? You deserve better rating like 1-AAA

  109. Hi Jassmine & AndrewK,

I’ll even ‘chope’ Table #2 for you. I’ll take #3 and Norlinda/Caroline #4. How’s that for fairness. I really have no idea at the moment what the configuration is, but after the Founder, it is first come first served.

Do not hesitate if you have any other queries,
    ………….Jie.

  110. Jie

Let Jassmine’s wish comes true, lah – 3.

Me between two groups of sweet ladies since Terence and gang take No 1, boleh?

  111. Hi Jassmine

Now I have a laser disc turntable and seven LDs for the flea market.

LDs include My Fair Lady, Fiddler on the roof, Les Miserables, Teresa Teng’s concert, Bee Gees,The Greatest Love Songs on Karaoke and a collection of concert’s songs.

KT and Tim, are you interested to make a bid in this soft launch?

  112. Well, I shall let KT bid first……respect for an elder.

Seriously, the organisers shd meet to discuss and inspect the site otherwise things can go haphazard on the day.

Come what may, i will be there barring the recall…………

  113. Andrew,

With your ‘new’ stuff, I think we need another table!

BTW, I consider your ‘new’ stuff TREASURE!

    JassmineT

  114. Hi Jassmine

Don’t really need another table. Can stack the LDs on the Lasir D turntable, occupying 1.5 sq ft or total 3sq ft space at most.

Let us see any bid(s) on and off-line(flea market).

    Cheers, Andrew

  115. Alamak!…why it coincide with cycling ah?..susah leh!..then my buddies wont be around to participate with me..can i go cycling instead pls..hehe
Can i come after cycling..like YewKwong?
    Carly apa macam?

  116. Norlinda @ 128

Dun wori. We will go there 2 run our stalls when the cycling ends.

Rain or shine, cycling is still on.

  117. Hi Nor

Cycle all the way to Bali Lane … hit two birds with one stone… then cycle home.

Double happiness with one complete cycle.

    Bagus dan chantek

  118. Jie @ 122

Look like U hv a lorryload of stuf 2 put on display 4 sale. Just wonder wat r they.

  119. Andrew @ #124

I love to play your collection. $20 gross for the lot including good player. Net $10 cash less bet UOI.

Ahhh…. the things one have to do to collect bad debt nowadays. Sing like a dying princess also cannot get.

For AV, I am a huge consumer. But I am a technophile not collector. I am looking for blue ray that can play DVD format. Anyone has something for sale? Anyone “Back from a Future Flea Market Sale”. Ten years from now will just be fine.

Remember to get a collection of blue ray discs too. Wow, your friends with a special pre-premier showing. Ten years from the time it will be made. Remember to get “My Old Lady”; “Dead Tiger and Retired Dragon” where Chow plays the great grandfather; and “Lost Even without Caution” with Tony Leong flat on his back and under this time. Hee-hee.

Anybody with art stuff. Paintings, sculpture or light fixtures. Or even furniture.

  120. My business mgr says: can keep KT in view.

There are better deals than unilateral conditional deal.

Open the market to a wider and limitless appreciative world…

Princess and would be princesses are hale, strong and beautiful; likely to able to sing, dance and live into their young 80s and 90s.

  121. Hi ! Terence/Jie,

I would like to participating in the SHC Flea Mark & sell some of new/used item (eg: cloth, bags, costume jewellery & display stuff etc), Kindly reserve a table for me if the size of the table is not too big, else can share with some others member.

BTW, may I know when is the date/time & whether is the place shuttle pls?

    Thanks

    Judy

  122. Tim @ #125

    Kiddo,

See #132. Moral of the story. Don’t try out bid the other guy who is owed money by the vendor.

Your turn. Bring it on baby.

Is this for real. Or just Fiddling on the Roof?

  123. Anybody disposing their aquarium? I am looking for small fishes like guppies. Small fishes make my tank look big. And unbeatable unbeatable detail.

The trick is to zoom into your camera and display on your large screen TV for visitors.

  124. Nor, YK and cycle “Hell Angels” gang,

Cycle all the way to Bali Lane. Put the bikes on sale. Treat yourself to a sumptuous meal, shop for presents for yourself and take cab home from proceeds.

    6 birds with one stone.

Seriously, why don’t your put bike accessories on sale. There are many second hand stuff out there from reformed cyclists.

  125. Hi ‘Da’ Jie,

OK on, please reserve 2 tables for us, side by side, for the flea mart, lelong lelong ….

AnnLim / Ros / Anna Seet

  126. Judy @ # 134

Scorebot is at 18 Bali Lane. The tables will be in the space directly behind the bus stop. It is the main thoroughfare.

When you say new, do you mean a product line. Or last christmas gifts. If so, here’s a trick that never fails. Sell the gift unwrapped. Make sure that you have the gift giver’s name “accidental” stamped on it. That cheapskate will buy it back for two to three times the value to save himself from embarassment when it is opened in public.

In investment, we have a technical term for it. It is called “leveraging the cheapskate”. Hee-hee.

Do you want to post your wares and ask for bids now? Like what Andrew did for his LD player and collection. But with photos and bids like Ebay.

  127. Yew Kwong # 131…………..
No lorry load, just that I am sharing the table with Eleanor as indicated in # 95. Pardon me Eleanor, I omitted your name in # 122.

    Andrew K # 123……………
Are you trying to build a harem??? I wonder what Aileen will think??? I will comply with your request as best as I can tho’ for the moment I still don’t know what the configuration is.

    Judy Lim # 134…………………
Happy that you are joining in the fun. I will be putting up a new posting soon, hopefully it is clearer in detail. Unfortunately, there is NO shuttle.

    Ann Lim # 138…………………..
Yew Kwong!!!! This is where the lorry load is. Ann, Ros and Anna are pooling together for 2 tables. Welcome, welcome!!!!!

    Jie

  128. Jie @ # 123

A is a good boy. Boys from the MRT station cannot be sheiks.

Now you know why we sound so wonderfully joyous when we sing “When The Saints Go Marching Home”

    Home is harem.

  129. KT, you kiasu huh, bid $20 so high for what, spoil the market, you know?

Now how can I match yr bid when all along I had $10 in mind with the condition that AndrewK covers my transporation fare home….

AndrewK, nobody can outbid KT so let him fiddle with yr LCDs on the Bees’ roof with Theresa Teng giving him all the Miserables as she splays with his marbles……

YK, good idea to cycle to Bali lane and then sell them there……..surely, lelong at $20/bike will still land you with a profit which you can place a bet on & win the nite’s EPL matches, so starting yr path to growing wealth………….

My offer to share a bed still stands, probably bcos I hv more bones & so find even the most padded of tables uncomfortable.

  130. Wow.. wow… not time never join liao.
missed out alot due to family commitment.
I do have lots of things to sell, like costume jewelleries, semi-precious stone products .. is it too late to join? Can take a table if ok.

    M cheo

  131. Alamak Nor

Apa macam?? I also dunno leh.

If we start cycling early and finish at least one hour before flea market start, still got chance to make it.

See what Dai Gor YK say lah.

  132. Hi Jie

Aileen and I will think of halal, ME and Eastern cuisines at Arab Street/North Bridge Road with beauty and sweet aroma abound.

I was raised up around the nostalgic goldsmith area, Muslim restaurants, Arabic and Chinese schools, and the palaces.

OK to remain as Princes and Princesses lineage from the Middle Kingdom, the country with the highest FX reserves within the last ten years. Just fortunate to be schooled at the premises now sacrifice for the greater good of all in Singapore and the world.

Most have tasted the goodness and greatness what modern life-styles bring with Chijmes and “the sanes” to complement some roles.

  133. Caroline @ # 145

Good idea. Come earlier before the makan finishes and flea market starts. Scorebot will have a competely revamped menu for the occassion from their master chef. Yum-yum.

The good things like A’s LD player and collection for $20 is expected to be taken up like a snap. You know what it is like in a SHC makan … Chomp, Chomp, Oink, Oink…

I hear that Tim is bringing his bed to camp overnight so that he can be first in the queue for the LDs. Shhhh…. Don’t breathe a word. Its a secret deal. I am trying to sell him to the Arabs for their harem. No, not that. He has to undergo surgery before he takes up his new position as Official Comptroller of the King’s Harem Toilet. Say “Your Lordship” when you next meet him in a desert.

Idea. Works only for bikers. Sell popular DVD dramas that you last bought from China. Ride off quickly if the police comes. Remember to move faster than Sungei Road. Hee-hee.

Another two ideas. Take our wares and ride around the square to sell.

Or provide shuttle from Sungei Road to Bali Lane. Double the markup and sell up market on consignment from street vendors there.

  134. Hi KT

    @#132

I have a friend who wanted (two years ago) to sell her blackwood, mother-of-pearl set of furniture for a 5 – figure sum. If you are interested to have a look, I can contact her and see if the furniture set is still available. She lives on East Coast Road.

Now, on a much smaller scale, are you interested to buy a small dog sculpture? It’s brown with a black oval patch on it’s back. It’s got a ‘furry’ texture and is about 9 inches (sitting posture) in height – ideal for table display. The dog has a woebegone look -quite heart-wrenching.
It’s made in Italy, an original by Castagna.

What kind of paintings are you interested in?

    JassmineT

  135. Jas @ #148,

I have a rosewood set. I need smaller interesting items for odd corners in the house.

Dog sculptures no. After brain washing from our Dr. Green and Fanatical Pet Lover, Steven Chan, I’ve learned to appreciate real dogs. Like how they shit as fast as they beg for food.

I am interested in abstracts of any kind. Again for interior decor theming. I am not a great art lover for pure art sake.

If others are interested in the items that you may have. Would you like to supply a photo and an indicative price for the items? Especially for items which are too big or too valuable to lug around.

  136. Hi! Jie,

Appreciate your prompt feedback. I will visit the place b4 I commit myself to ask a table to be reserve. Reason is am quite worry to exposure in the sun as I mind melt under the sun leh. hihi

    #140 – K.T.Wong,

I mean my barang barang is really brand-new as I enjoy shopping during travelling, always like to buy & sometime keep till I forgot what I buy. I really need to learn from you about the post in Ebay & do some Investment as I intend to sell my full set of encyclopaedia & not sure how do it, may be can you teach me when we got opportunity to meet.Thank you for your advise.

    Judy

  137. Hi All

Just an advice. Sellers intending 2 sell shows, be it VCD, DVD or MTV, pls make sure they come wif agency’s clearance stickers. Tis pre-empt unncessary troubles coming 2 U n organiser wen the Authority conducts routine checks.

Samples of agency’s clearance stickers can be viewed at most CD/Video shops.

  138. Judy @#150

Take the sidewalk. It has a shelter overhead.

They have a name for this. It is called shopaholicsm.

The best retail therapy for shopaholics is a visit to the flea market. Learn how to sell instead of buying. See all the other members of Shopaholic Annonymous who have bought things that they don’t need. Feel the Fellowship. You are not alone. There are many out there exactly like you. Buy something. Feel the power that surges in the veins. Be normal and wholesome again.

    Hee-hee

Tomorrow we are having a special autotrading preview at Scorebot 7 pm. Experts from financial institutions will be there so you’ll get the best. It’s free to all SHC members.

The only problem is we are trying to squeeze Dennis into a suit. We making odds at 1:2 that he will succeed. You win $20 for $10 bet if he turns up in a suit.

  139. Andrew,

If no that thing that YK mentioned in #151 please contact my runner-biker Carol or Nora; my lawyer Tim and please deliver in small black plastic bags.

YK, What happens if we are flogging DVD’s of ourselves in the shower. Still need that thing or not.

Anybody has Edison Chen’s duets on video? Nobody can remember how he sings anymore. Bidding starts at $10,000 per clip.

  140. Hi ! KT Wong,

Sound interesting, squeeze a person into a suit & if he manage to turns up in a suit, the person who bet will win extra S$10/=.

Anyway tomorrow I caanot make it at 7PM, as I off-duty in work at 6.15pm & my work place at Changi Airport. C U in D/D.

    Cheer!

  141. They are all genuine products with original labels, YK and KT at #151 &153.

No need to bother anyone, just need to have real and appreciative buyers.

Bogus ones can stay at home …….and dream for the cow to jump over the moon and count stars and planets on a starry starry night.

  142. Hi KT ,others,

I had a medium sized mirror surrounded by Balinese “birds and flower wooden carvings.
    Pleasant colours bought from Bali.

And can be hung on the wall and in good condition.

    Any takers ?
If interested, pls email me for details.

  143. Hi Wong KT,

Poor Dogs, they need to beg for your food . Perhaps you could teach them to shake hands and fetch a stick back b4 to you b4 u give them food.

  144. Hi Steven,

I like wood carvings and if it comes with a mirror it serve another purpose. Are you putting it up for bidding or just giving it away?

Thanks, if you thinking of giving it away, and glad to know you are back to your jovial mood. Btw, have you send in your form to participate in the NDP 2008 Line Dance ( 1 dance only lah ) and they may need a tall cowboy like you.

  145. Hi All rounder,

It is for sale for a reasonable price.
    No thanks,line dancing in NDP??
Can’t even line dance, mind you to display oneself at NDP. You must be joking.

Thanks my mood has improved by leaps and bounds after taking the medication.
Cannot be stubborn again to stop the medication as I like.

  146. Hi Wong KT,

At 149 …. (.. I’ve learned to appreciate real dogs. Like how they shit as fast as they BEG for food.)???

OK. KT ,Set up one stall at SHC Flea market where you teach your dogs to shake our customer’s hand.

With each handshake, your dogs gets $2 each and with a kiss on the face another $3 each .And if your dog can jump up and ” BEAR HUG another $5 each.

And so in this way, your dogs do not have to beg from food from you for a very long time.

And I will be your 1st.customer. So they can easily earned $10.

    They earned their living.
No need to beg for food anymore from you. Ha! Ha!

  147. Hi Wong KT ,

At # 149, not fanatical after all but entrepreneursip.

How abt exploring my idea at 161 ?

  148. Steven @#161

    You’ll be my partner coach.

    Better trick.

Dog fetch one out of 38 balls with numbers. People place money on roulette table. Same rules.

Also train dogs to ride bicycle in case mata-mata comes.

  149. Judy @# 154

Come if you can make it. It is so easy that you won’t miss anything. Anyway it is free and easy and we are around.

It is a straight MRT for you downtown to Bugis. Then a short walk to 18 Bali Lane. You should have more than enough time. You can check out the flea market location also.

Trading and investment is not sequential learning but learning from exposure. The more exposure that you have, the better.

It is very much like kung fu. The best kung fu is to learn directly from a sifu or mentor master. You don’t need books. When many kung fu exponents start, they are not even literate.

In the early days, we learn trading by being pushed into the pits. You start by trading and learning on the job and from your own mistakes.
One can learn from mentor without books. One cannot learn from books without mentor. Best of course, is if you can supplement mentor practice with theory.

The pits may no longer be there. But I believe that trading has not changed. The best is to start trading with people better than you.

One common mistake that everybody makes. They spend their whole life looking for the perfect financial theory or system. No system is perfect. It is only the refined practise of a system that can bring you near to perfection. It is the same with kung fu.

The perfectionists will never get to the starting point. They are the majority who are still going to previews when their more practical peers are making millions from the markets.

  150. Steven @ #157

“Mirror, mirror on the wall. Who is the cheapest of them all.”

Everybody talks about having a reasonable price. What’s reasonable. Carol talks about 5 figures for a set of blackwood furniture. Indeed it may be a bargain. Point is we don’t know until we have a picture, description and dimension for it. No point having the most beautiful furniture if one end sticks out of the window.

Do you think you’ll bring it down to the flea market?

Otherwise, would you like to send us a picture and please include what we call a reserve or minimum price. Bidding starts from there and we’ll then try get the best buyer for you.

It is very unusual to get a seller like Andrew. Tim and I offered $10 and #20 respectively, and you can see in #155 how deliriously happy is he with our reasonable price.

But that’s not all. Anyone who wants to watch “My Fair Lady” instead of waiting for Christmas reruns can now bid higher.

So post your item now. The more market exposure you get your item, the better value you are likely to fetch.

  151. With a sifu, you learn kung fu; with a sigu, you learn to chant so do pls make sure you can tell their difference cos many sigus dress like & are also called sifus………..

    Haha, KT, Andrew in delirium?

He & I come from the same ahmad matter……ooops, alma mater, I mean so I hv to be on his side.

So even if I dont buy a thing from him, I’ll still spend some $ to buy 10 minutes sitting on his table as I read Jass’ webster and quietly stealing looks at her.

Btw, the webster is as good as mine now but I wont mind to lose a bit here…….anyone out there can hv this book covered in 24k solid gold for $50……..an ounce of gold is trading at USD900+ and if you scrape it hard enough, you can get 0.916 oz……..

  152. When do you become so smug, Tim?

Good to stop naming others or using not pleasant adjectives, lah-boleh! Be nice and kind, OK? You will get one sweet this Saturday if you remain good and gentle.

Otherwise you will find a delirium place at Wd Bridge sooner, hor! tsk, tsk! Stay humble lah.

The good boys at RI do not behave like that, hor! Unless belong to the bad, ugly and naughty minority smug ones who try to pass naughty things to innocent or impressionable young ones!

Good to maintain sanity and true purpose in this thread on worthy cause!

  153. Why do I need to tell you when I became smug, AndrewK?

When i do name another, it’s me to judge whether or not it’s good. Likewise, for the adjectives I used which you seem to run into problems with. Be good & you will get one salt a day from me, beginning this Saturday.

Otherwise your delirium might put you at Wd Bridge sooner hor! Stay sober lah.

The good boys at RI do not behave like that, hor. I know cos I spent 6 years there. The bad, ugly and naughty minority smart alecs who spent only 2 years there thot they are good enough to teach a tru-blue how to suck eggs.

Perhaps, more suited to sucking the thumb thumb?

  154. Once upon a time there were three schools.
One thought they own the country.
The second thought that they ruled.
    Lucky there was a third
We are still praying for their salvation

    Hee hee

Don’t take ourselves too seriously. In the end everything is just a fleeting moment. Enjoy every moment while it lasts.

  155. tsk tsk, Tim.

Time and length of stay/learning do not measure sanity, maturity and substance, lah!

Good to use pleasant and positive adjectives. Don’t create unnecessary stress and debate… . Chapter closed.

    Thank you. Relax !
