  9. “Danz for Joy!”

Sengh, it looks like you’ve gotten them wrong. Not all kukubirds ………there’re 2 lovebirds. Now hold yr breath and wait for nestlings to come.

  10. Tim,

Trust you to be alert to capitalize on our stand. To all who consider us an item we want to lead you on!

I have said before, we are up for an Oscar award, don’t bet on it!

    Danz for Joy!

  11. Hi Catherine,

White Card is supposed to be effective from August 15 according to latest news. It would be good if they have done away with it!

    Danz

  12. Hi Catherine H and Danz,

Your are right. The white cards will be used effective Aug 15th. Unless of course if they make another change. Malaysia Boleh, anything also boleh (can happen).

Have a safe and enjoyable trip.

  13. “To all who consider us an item we want to lead you on!”

Well, Danz, being a lamp post is already bad enough. Be a lamp post that follows you and Joy will be so bad that PUB has no hesitation to cut the power supply. So, no worry lah, go enjoy with Joy in yr arms and the very understanding us promise that we wont join to take yr joy of Joy away, specially when you both are deeply joined…..hee

  14. Hi Danz!
Sori for wrong info then. Hope they’ll provide the white cards for us at Newton circus.

    Hi Charles!
Tks 4 well-wishes. How come U not joining us this time?
    Too busy earning $$$$?

  15. Hi Cat Ho,
Wish what you said were true. More correctly it should be “too busy LOSING money”.
I hope I don’t have to change my car to a “Su, su kee”
Hope all the kukupbirds have a good time.

  16. Hi Dan,

It is confirmed that white card is required from the newspaper report.

Suggest that you arrange for the white cards to be issued to us at the meeting point to avoid the unnecessary delay of filling in the cards at the Immigration checkpoint.

    Andrew Koh

  22. Hi Danz/Joy,

I am afraid that I can’t get well enough for this trip. Can I urgently appeal for someone to take over my place?

Suddenly on Tuesday morning my lower back stiffen & painful, had difficulty in walking and even rest in bed. Seen OPD but failed to recover till in the night went to see my family doctor and was diagnosed as swollen bladder.

Hopefully both of you can help in finding a replacement. Sorry for the short notice and inconvenience caused.

    Thanks
    Anne

  23. Hi Shirleen.

I just saw your posting. I have already made arrangements to meet up with Clara & a few others. We are all meeting at the Bedok MRT PLATFORM @ 7:30am, first train carriage ie. do not go down the esclator. Pls join us if you wish. 25. Dear all

We fly by bus (maybe travelling at 120km/hour) over the cuckoo’s nest to Kukup this Saturday.

I have called most of you. About half did not answer my call. I have messaged those whom I didn’t call or who didn’t answer my call.

Now to work on some games to torture all of you. And you thought you were going to have fun?! Ha ha ha ha…

    Joy

  26. Hi Joy, Danz and Kukupbirds,

I dont know why the post sank so low. Guess, it must be a submarine that has no air to surface. Well, we just send some air tanks over. The Post should be up now. Enjoy the Kukup adventure.

    Terence Seah

  27. Hi Joy & Danz

Next time, any of your post sinks again, just send out a S.O.S. One of us will help float it again. Don’t wait till “it is peeking out from the horizon” as we may not have noticed the sinking unless informed.

Wonder why only Danz’s post has the sinking Titanic problem.? No one else has this problem leh.

  28. Hi Danz/Joy,

I don’t think Shirleen has seen my posting. Pls sms me her mobile no. I just need to know whether she’s meeting us @ Bedok mrt platform or not?

I was really pleasantly surprised when Joy rang me yesterday. I’m really impressed. Thanks for a good job. Well done.

  29. Hi Danz n Joyz

Thanks DAN we were dancing with JOY all nite long. With Karoake singing in stretching our voices to the limit, luckily we were in a closed-door sessions, otherwise our voices could be heard far and wide, to the whole of KUKUP.

We enjoyed our social dancing and line dancing. especially we had two floorings in two chalets to dance on. With the games added in, and sing-along, cordinated by Clara and Lydia, in our bus trips and also after dinner time, with HOKIEN songs added in by Annie Loh, it was a spice to the “curry” of English and Malay “keronchong” songs sessions,
which Terence loved best was the Hokien songs , it was a
music to his ears. The only set-back was no fishing for the two KOHS, Ron Koh and Andrew Koh, they had to look for a better fishing ground next time, and we would join you, happy fishing.

    RON n ALICE LAI

  30. Hi, all:

    Ron Koh

  33. Dear Ron Koh

I finally get to put a face to your name! I feel that you are such a gentle and soft-spoken man who enjoys solitude and solitary activities.

It must have been disappointing not to be able to fish. Thanks for explaining to me where the water went to and for pointing out the mudskippers to me.

Your pictures are such a lovely documentary of Kukup.

    Joy

  34. Dear Judy

Thanks for your words of appreciation. We are glad that no other dogs came near you after our first stop. My ear is still ringing. Hee hee…

    Joy

  35. Dear Catherine

We are glad that you experienced joy and laughter on the trip. Now, what is this Oscar Award and drink thingy about huh?

    Joy

  36. Dear fellow Kukubirds

Thanks for your words of appreciation here, through email and in person.

Helping Dan organise a trip for so many people has been a new experience for me as I stick my mountain tortoise head out of my little shell. Indeed life begins after 45!

And now for some admin matters. The operator said it is the norm to tip the drivers and the guides, so Dan gave them 100 ringgit. Other than that, Dan spent 30 ringgit on fruits and 100 ringgit on petrol for the recce. All these were funded from the $86 that the operator returned to us as one free ticket.

And now we wait patiently for Oi Cheng to upload the pictures from Dan’s camera.

    Till another time, good night.

    Joy

  37. Dear Anne Chee

    Hope you are feeling better.

I have transferred via IB $86/- to your POSB Savings account as your refund. Transaction reference is 1858140992.

    Joy

  38. Joy and Dan,

I have never been to Kukup before; and I really enjoyed the weekend retreat. It was real pleasure to see everybody getting to know one another better. Thank you for making this event memorable.

    Terence Seah

  39. Hi Danz and Joy

Just a note to say, Thank you for your time and arrangements for making this trip an enjoyable one. Thanks once again.

2D/1N Kukup fishing village stay . We really
had a good time @ Kukup. Well Done !

    Regards

    Alan n Ann

  41. We sure had a wonderful fun>> FUN >>> time. I enjoyed every minute of it, esp the games, singalong, karaoke, food, and esp the company of all the wonderful SHC people. And my passion for nature & photography was rekindled, thanks to Ron Koh.

To view some really good photography with comments, click on Ron Koh’s website, the link can be found in his comment on Post No. 41.

Yea, life really begins after 45.

  42. Hi Ron koh,

Thanks for your interesting photos and clear captions of the recent Kukup adventure.

…. The fruit that looked like an apple, but is not.

It is called a Pong pong and is use to make rat poison.

It is quite commonly found in Spore. In fact we spotted a few of these trees when we went for our Pipeline Rambo walk.

  43. Hi, Steven #57:

    Thanks for your info.

However, I am familiar with the pong pong (Cerbera odollam), and I’m sure the fruit I photographed was something else.

The plant was no more than 50cm high, the fruit was about half the size of a pong pong, and appeared more succulent. The fruit also did not grow in a cluster.

    Cheers,

    Ron Koh

  44. Hi Fong Cheong Kong, Maureen, Alan & Ann Bok n Lydia,

Glad all of you enjoyed the trip as much as me and Joy! The rain did not dampened our spirits. Sorry Terence you have to miss your coffee that morning. Thanks Catherine for the ‘chwee kueh’.

The singalong lead by Clara and Lydia help to lift up our spirits. We have a needful coffee break after the Causeway! The seafoods lunch was fantastic, which is what Kukup is famous for.

The games lead by Joy remind us of our childhood days. Lots of danzing too. I promised mahjong tutorial, I wonder how many have learn the tricks from Dan and Ron Lai!

The talking point was the BBQ dinner. So mouth watering to even talk about it! After dinner, more singing lead by Clara, Lydia and Annie Loh.

Sorry to say the durians was out of season. The operator could not get anyone to sell it to us. During our shopping spree some who were dying for durians managed to buy it at Tebrau JUSCO!

The next day we have a ‘Finding the shoes’ game and identifying whose shoes it belong and in the process getting to know each other better lead by Joy.

Thereafter, another sumptuous seafood lunch. A visit to the fish farm and shopping for one and a half hour at Tebrau!

I am trying to do this as a quarterly event. Watch out for the next outing on an island near Singapore. Probably on the first weekend of November. do we get your support?

    Danz n Joy

  45. Hi Dan & Joy,

I know my post came in very late, not becos of the postman but myself to be blame. BUT it is better than never.

I would like to thank a BIG THANK YOU to both of you for organizing this trip. Really really fun! Looking forward to more.

    Andrew, pics well taken!
