Picture manager and Calendar manager – new term starting Jan 2010

Currently, we have two active roles taken up by Yew Kwong and Dolly Lim.  The roles are Website administration and Club manager.  Both roles will run until end of 2010.

There are two other active roles, and they are  the Pictures Manager and the Calendar Manager.  The Pictures manager role is held by Oi Cheng, and this role will end its term in Dec 2009.  The other role of Calendar Manager is held by Dolly Lim; and this role also expires in Dec 2009.  Both Dolly and Oi Cheng have fulfilled the functions very well; no complaints.

Meantime, we will be looking for SHC members who are willing to manage one of these two positions in Jan 2010.  Likely to be someone with time at hand, loves fiddling with internet work, known to other members and pretty active getting to know people and joining the different activities.

For curiosity, what is a calendar personal.
Guess, just to look at the calendar, is it?
And predict any coming storm or tsunami coming SHC
    way right? hahahaaa!

  3. Nice change on the wallpaper. We have the four musketeers
of SHC showing their handsome faces albeit a little weather
    bitten.

Ben Foo stood out as the Soo Kee handsome boy with a mind full of investment units. Hahahahaaaa!

  5. Terence

What a difference! Thank goodness you’ve taken off the monkeys.

Already a few people, not from SHC, have made some remarks about SHC not having nicer pictures than monkeys to put up.

    Thank you.

  6. Wow!

We got four Suai Ge. They must have broken many hearts in their younger days. Right guys? Not joking ok!

Agree with Nor #6 and Mary Chan #7.

I too felt very uncomfortable with the indecent exposure heee!

    Cheers

  7. Hooray to the Gang of 4,

Congrats on making it to be SHC’s ‘coverguys’.

If SHC experiences a sudden influx of new members (especially females), Terence will know why ;-)

  8. Wahhh Terence very churm lei, put monkeys kenna humtum, put men also kenna humtum…put women neh….am sure will kenna humtum too hehehehehe

But can’t please everyone tiok bo..suggest you put pic of 1 of each…..monkey, woman, man and ……….

  9. Hi Jonathan #9,

For more than 10 years, I worked with fashion and Hi-So magazines. Magazine covers can make or break newstand sales. It is important to have known celebraties on the cover. Before we buy a magazine, we see who’s who on the cover page. Of course, in the case of SHC, for some reasons and I still don’t know why, there are more ladies than men.

What I have been looking for are a good mix of ladies and men in our activities. Our social activities tend to attract 70% ladies; altho I was impressed than Frisna was able to run the last monthly gathering with more than 50% men.

For a few months, I have noticed Sockie as an active photographer, taking pictures during our events. She is fast and creative; but tends to take scenic pictures. We discussed, and I asked if she could take more portraits of SHCians. She agreed, and after a few rounds, she took more than 30 portraits of members, of which I have found to very acceptable. The 4 shots above were taken by Sockie.

Well, I am still on the lookout for more portrait photographers. So, PaulK, King Seng, Joy, I hope you can do more portrait shots; closeups, reflecting the natural mood of the person and highlighting the real him/her.

    Hi Madeline,
Keep walking in front of the photographers during our monthly gatherings or other activities, and I am sure we will capture you on film one day.

  10. Hi Terence,

Ahh, so it’s Sockie who took the pics of our coverguys. Good job – candid and natural.

As you mentioned that you are still on the lookout for more portrait photographers, PATRICK LEE SJ, please do not whip out your camera (although it was sweet of you to bring your camera at our dinner, much appreciated). Why? BECAUSE he snapped a photo of me shuffling/stuffing food in my mouth with you, Terence looking on. He sent this pic to me besides our group photos and IF this pic of me appears on this forum/his private collection etc, HE IS DEAD!!

Hope to see some covergirls the next time. Still want to drool over these four guys……..

  11. Terence and Geraldine,

Thanks for the compliments but paiseh lah, me no professional photographer yet….let alone portrait photography. Just ‘fooling’ around with my camera and hopefully did not offend anyone in the process.

To all SHC memebers……I come, I see and I shoot so if anyone of you have concern about being ‘shot’ by me, pls just show me a sign (ahhhh but not the *** fingers hor) and I will ‘fire’ away at someone else….don’t want to turn up as dead meat….Patrick L SJ…beware kekekekekek

    Sockie

  12. Hi Sockie,

Hahahaaaaa……….see, we women are so quick, sharp and smart! ‘….don’t want to turn up as dead meat……..Patrick L SJ……..beware kekekekekek’. Nice, indeed.

Keep shooting. You are a natural.

  13. Over the last few months, our talented photographers have captured a number of nice portraits of SHCians during various events. You can be sure that selected portraits are carefully selected; and will not be used to make fun of any individual or situation.

We have some very good photos which I am eager to put up on our website banner. However, I dont have a good eye for colour, angles and image editing skills. If you have plenty of patience, reasonably friendly with any photo software, a good understanding of facial expressions and not expecting to be paid, I would be very happy to know you.

As SilverHairs, it is important to make that little effort to look good and feel good. I guess we live longer too, stay confident and are able to bring new life and cheers to our future years.

So, during our events, walk in front of our amateur photographers, and tell him/her that you feel good and want to be photographed.

Today is our monthly gathering. So, if you have registered yourself, come along, look good and feel good, among our fellow SHC friends.

  14. Currently, Oi Cheng fulfils the role of picture manager. She uploads pictures to the website of event. She has been doing a good job since. However, she has requested for a change, until such a time as we can find a new picture manager.

Well, today, I have got agreement from Sock Cheng (Sockie) to be the new pictures manager, wef 1 May 2010. She will be the central person to upload all events photos onto our website SilverHairsClub.com.

Thanks Sockie, and thank you very much Oi Cheng. Will be in touch.

    Terence Seah

  15. Hi Oi Cheng,

A difficult job well done, indeed!

    Hi Sockie,

Congratulations!! Good of you to be the next Picture Manager.

    Hi Terence,

You’ve made a great choice in getting Sockie to take up this post. Well done, too! Kekekekeeee.

  16. Thanks Terence for having the confidence in me to take over the role from Oi Cheng who had done a great job gettng the photos up on time

Thanks Geraldine, I hope I can do as good a job as Oi Cheng (^-^)

    Sockie

  17. Hi Oi Cheng,

Yes, you’ve been of great help to Terence and fellow members with your swift uploading of event pictures on the forum, and having been an EO before, I can attest to it. A tedious task well accomplished!

    Hello Sockie-Muay,

Congratulations in your new role! Do capture a good shot of yourself and post it on the Calendar of Events, this will certainly enable members who’ve not met you before, to know & recognise you instantaneously whenever they see you clicking away your camera at events…haha, go ahead, ‘mai paiseh’ hor.

Am very confident you’ll do an equally great job as Oi Cheng, cos’ you are quick on the uptake too!

    Cheers!

  18. Oi Cheng has updated the list of activities, organised during the year 2009.10. Photographs can be viewed under “Pages” and “Photographs & venues”. Thanks Oi Cheng.

Sockie, a photo enthusiast, takes over as Picture Manager on 1 May 2010.

    Terence Seah

  19. Sockie has taken over the role of Picture Manager from Oi Cheng, wef 1 May 2010. The role ends 1 May 2012.

Thank you Oi Cheng for the past role; and welcome Sockie to this new role.

  20. Finally I am able to get the system to work after various failed attempt….PHEW

I know that some of you are very anxious to see the photos taken at the various functions and I have already uploaded them for the following events.

    Photos uploaded are for :
    1) An enchanting night at Safra, Toa Payoh
    2) Monthly walk at Sembawang Park/Bottle Tree Village
    3) 1D/1N tour to Tg Batu, Kundur Island.

As usual please go to the post and drill down to the bottom to find the link. Alternatively you can go to the page under ‘Photographs and Events’ and drill down to the respective link.

For those who had taken photos of other functions and who wished to have them uploaded to SHC website, pls e-mail them to me at sockie_sg@hotmail.com and please make sure that you remove all the photos of members who do not wish to have their photos shown on the site. Once the photos are uploaded, it is quite tedious to go back and do amendments and I hope members will understand.

If there are too many photos to be e-mail, you can zip the files before e-mailing or put them on a cd and I will arrange to have this hand over at a convenient time ad place.

Now calling for those who had take photos of the following events to send them to me

    1) Pot luck gathering at East Coast park
    2) Coastal Thailand trip to eat durians and cockroaches
    3) Live to eat and walk at Hort Park (I have some photos and am waiting for Karen and Boon Liang for the rst)
    4) Taiwan Tour
    5) any more????

    Sockie

  21. Hi fellow SHCians,

I am pleased to say that Dolly Lim will be returning from her stint in China, at the end of July or Aug 2010. And, she has volunteered to restart her previous role as the Calendar manager.

Without her, we had not been able to update our list of activities. Let’s wait for her to come back.

    Thank you Dolly.

  22. Hi Terence

Last nite I was trying to upload some photos from about 1am to 4+am but was still hit with ‘Connection refusal’ error. Had tried rebuliding the album over and over, checked that all photos are correctly named with no space and special characters, password no problem, and breaking photos into smaller album, using the correct user name and naming the folder correctly in the usual format, checking with the US support center of the SW and updating the sofwtware but still NONE of these seemed to work

So I thought I had beter bring this to everyone’s attention so as not to leave anyone guessing why there are no photos to see for a while and also to dispell doubt that I am not uploading photos for ‘whatever reasons’….

As a mater of last resort now, I am going to reformat my PC over the weekend and hope that this will resolve the problem, failing that you may have to give me the ‘boot’ or buy me a new PC….and I guess it will be cheaper to give me a kick in the butt than buying me a new PC hahahahaha.

Sooo Oi Cheng, are you ready to catch the ‘ball’ again hahahaha. .

    “Jobs” on hand are

    1) Live to Eat – failed to upload as of last night
    2) Sengkang Walk – failed as in (2) above.

and thank you guys for your patience hor and am crossing my fingers that all photos will be up by next week :0)

All photos had been editted to make them look a little better, caption added when my jolly mood hits me, vetted to make sure that no ‘undesirable’ or ‘sensitive’ are included
I know, I know, Terence, you and another concerned member had been teling me not to spend too much time in editing the photos but ‘bad’ habits are hard to break lei. Just feel good seeing improvement in the overall photo by adding effects like soft focus, some glow, sepia and even B&W effect, strightening and cropping off the unwanted/excess parts and even a short caption to make the photos look interesting…….perhaps I will kick this habit very soon :0)

Now is what we say “Million tasks are done and now waiting for the East Wind” (better not use pinyin here esle Tim Tiu will be laughing at my mistakes hehehehe)

I am no Quitter but if this still does not work after reformatting my PC then I really do not know what else to do but ‘to throw in the towels’…… can I conclude that the SW just don’t like me for ‘whatever reason’… ok u can call me a silly woman just trying to find a silly excuse kekekeke. Ok on a serious note , any IT people out there who can offer any suggestion or assistance…….coffee on me and I will throw in a sandwich too :0)

    Sockie

  23. Hi Sock Cheng,

Let’s try to solve this issue this weekend. Keep the original pictures, and we have a go at it. Call you later.

  25. Sockie,
Thanks for uploading so many photos of recent events. It is indeed hardwork for you getting the job done until 4.43am in the morning.
Yours efforts much appreciated by all of us.

  26. Hi Dolly,

Thank you for coming in to run the Calendar page. We sure miss you. As a thank you, a song is dedicated for this hard work. Enjoy the clip on the banner.

  27. Hi All,
Just in case, 1 may wander y Dan’s post on cruise to nowhere is not stated in web calendar – pls note dat tis event was not up yet as there is a mention of at least 40paxs attendance is req’d hence I m not sure if there is not enuf paxs, will tis event still go ahead. I supp Dan or Joy will need to clarify this 1st – Terence, tis is my way to putting up web calendar, pls adv if otherwise and thanks for the dedication song earlier. Cheers.. Dolly

  28. Hi Dolly,

No worries, yes the ‘Cruise to Nowhere’ event is subject to the minimum number of 40 pax. Depending on the pax that signed up we may still try to go back and ask for acceptance should we fall short. If by the closing date, the figure is not there, we may cancelled the event and go on our own.

  30. Just up, a new banner picture. A good sign of the times. Santa forgot his sleigh. Somehowq, he landed in Singapore, Temasek Club. After I uploaded the picture, just realised one of the stars is duplicated.

    Am running short of stars.

  31. Hi all

Recently some of you might have noticed from the Phots & Venue page that a big chunk of photos link had disappeared after the Monthly Walk heading……wellll I was having some issues with my pc while I was trying to insert new photos link and accidentally deleted these links.

There were 2 options given, one to re-create the links and 2 to have my little finger rip of by the fairy god mother…..dunno which is the more painfull option hahahahaha.

Soooo while I am waiting for the fairy god mother to come a knocking, I thought I could try to go back and re-do the links as and when I find the time…..hopefully I can save my little pinky in time kekekekeke …….. so please be patient while I try to go back to the respective thread to retrive the photos link.

The photos are still there under the respective threads but it will make things easier for members to access the photos from the Photos & Venue page.

Pls be patient while I am doing the ‘re-consturction’ work and any help to jolt my memories on any of the past events would be a great help.

    S@@kie

  32. Girlfren Socks

First your toes on some trip over some mistaken excitement and now you hope to save your little pinky in time because of some accidental deletion.

What was the excitement this time? I know it wasn’t me.

p/s I will be patient while you reconstruct.

  33. Thank you GT Baby for your patience….the broken toe is on the mend now and hopefully I can still keep my litle pinky.

Okie folks the photos for the following event are now up for your viewing pleasure

    1) Monthly Walk – Zhenghua Park
    2) Visit to St Joseph Home
    3) Facial Kua-sa

BTW for those who are sending photos to me for upload, please try not to rename your photos. If you have to, then please do not use special characters or spaces as the software we use does not accept these and I will need to rename the photos again before uploading.

Dolly, me no receive the June photos from you lei….think got lost in cyber space. Can you re-send to me again

    S@@kie

  35. Hi All

Fianlly I am able to get the Software to work on my PC again..phew

Photos for the following events are now up for your viewing pleasure

    1) Aug Meeting
    2) Sep & Oct Walk
    2) Photoraphy outing – Special reminder to Danny, pls DO NOT use special characters eg, @ – ()* # etc when you rename the photos. Our software cannot accept such characters and I had to rename all your (renamed) photos which is very counter-productive.

Douglas I cannot extract the Sep Cycling/Monthly meeting photos and need you to e-mail these to me, thank you

  36. Hi Sockie,

Well done. And thank you for the effort. It’s a pain having to reformat the hard disk, and then having to spend your midnight oil to get the system started all over again. Hope you don’t have to keep reformat your hard disk so often. I can tell you are tired from the first spelling error in your comment.
