Advertising on the SHC website is not allowed

The SilverHairsClub.com website is very well visited by thousands of Singaporeans and the internet community.  It is SHC’s home.  It serves as a platform and a venue for SilverHairs to meet new and more friends.  SHCians can organise events at any venue, and use SilverHairsClub.com as the communications medium.  SHCians can share their thoughts, organise their special interests groups, discuss private business ideas, plan games, talk retirememnt plans, travel, etc.  There is almost no restriction, except for the club taboos.

A number of SHCians as well as external organisations have asked to place their events or information about their activities on our website.   Some organisations have also asked members to help place promotional and marketing informaton here.  A couple of members get pretty angry and nasty when their requests are rejected.  And, some even challenge the decision, as the use of this forum is free.   Some members do view that promotion of external organisations or services is for information of members, and it is their right to dessiminate the marketing or promotion informaton.  We do not have companies as members; only individual memberships.

As a guide, we draw a line between clear advertising vs venues/activities organised by members.  Very often, the line cannot be easily distinguished.  We are always supportive of Event Organisers EOs, who organise activities for members, and as such, there may be a cross-over the line.  As such, decisions to publish any promotional or advertising materials are final.  This website is free for members to use; and I would ask all members to note that advertising on the website is not allowed.

  1. Silverhairsclub is unique because of stringent rules and undertakings. Though human failures still surface at times.

Many other private organisations and clubs have no clear guidelines to sustain their own credibility.

Take Lions International Club, which I was member for 5 years then. Nothing more than networking and advertising of self-business and MLM. Though many others do really join without personal agenda.

silverhairsclub does well to monitor a free website and free membership for the benefit of people above 45 years.

Discretion will always be the better part of valour. In between some may try their luck. So good lucky trying !

  2. Hi PatrickL #1,

It’s nice to hear from you again. Generally, SilverHairsClub is a relaxed grouping of SilverHairs. As you would have seen, members can organise any event, or participate in any event. Let’s keep it free and easy.

On the issue of advertising by members, it is still no, as I doubt members would enjoy the forum crowded by sales, marketing and promotional materials.

  3. Hi Terence Seah / admin ,

Just consider my suggestions below :-

I know that advertising in SHC is STRICTLY NOT allowed as it has been laid down many yrs. ago.and that you had from time to time reminded us.

And recently you wrote that down again in your NEW post to further remind us.( Advertising on the SHC website is not allowed by Terence Seah in SHC in the forum pg.)

    1) Can you make it an “EXCEPTION” for the annual SHC Flea Market Carnival , 100% run by SHC members and a lot of “headaches” for both the EOs Danz and Joyz.I am greatly impressed by both of them for devoting so much of their time and effort in running this carnival.

What we need is MORE awareness among our SHC community and MORE participation so that our SHC members are AWARE

    i) what kind of items are on sale ?

ii) what are the range of prices ?
( You know S’poreans / others, are especially particular abt prices when buying an item or travel itinerary.etc… and that is why whole yr round also got sale. )

And that after reading Danz’s comments and if they find something suitable to buy and the price is reasonably cheap as compared to elsewhere , then they may come over to browse at our goods.

    2) For those ” stall keepers” who have made a profit,
10% of their net profit will be transferred to the Special SHC fund and this sum of money collected would be donated to the Orphanages in Johor Baru in future. Should Sam Huat n Dolly will to organise further visits, then it will fulfil its purpose.

    My opinion :-
I try once being a stall keeper at Bali Lane Flea Market many yrs. ago and I find the experience so “EXHILIRATING.” I told myself it is ok even if I will to make a loss and carting all the barang2 here; but to my surprise, I was able to made abt $20.

More than enough for a simple dinner and taxi ride home. Ha! Ha! :)

For those who had yet to gain this exhilarating experience ,
    ” Trying is Believing. “

  4. Hi StevenC #4,

On your suggestion to have a Special SHC fund to collect money for the orphanages, I am sorry I would not support such an arrangement.

And, on the subject of advertising, if you become the EO of the next Flea market, please feel free to talk with the Club manager Dolly. But, as a general guideline, advertising is not allowed on this forum.

Glad you enjoy Flea markets. I believe they are fun too. And, if flea marts become an avenue for us to make some good dollars out of our skills, services or products, we would make Flea marts an integral part of our Blue Helmet activities. Let’s try to perfect flea marts.
