Do u make your own Chinese New Year goodies? & would u sell any of your goodies to fellow SHCians?

Generally, SHC does not accept selling of products and services on this website.  This year, I think we shall give it a go, and see how organise or disorganise we can be if we allow the selling of CNY goodies on this website.

As long as you are a SHC member and make the goodies yourself, and that the goodies are not from a commercial organisation, you can use this website and take orders here.  You can state the prices and when and how to collect the goodies.  No tel numbers.  Email addresses are ok.

Can be kueh2, pineapple tarts, sponge cakes, "everybody’s birthday cake", roast cashew nuts, BBQ pork, etc.  Leave it to your imagination.  But, they have to be CNY goodies.

Please use only this Post.  This Post will close on 14 Feb 2010.

  1. I have heard about Suzhang’s pineapple tarts for a long, long, long time. Would like to place an order if she’s making this item for sales.

    Susan, what say you?

  2. HI Annto,

For me, I have not tasted anybody’s tarts since SHC started. But, I will be very interested if someone makes traditional quarter-fold love letters and crusty kueh balus.

Ok, this year, I will make extra and bring it to the CNY’s gathering if there’s one, then whoever want to try can try, so next time if i really make this a living, please support support ya… :). (Oops, sorry Terence, did I infringe the rule here?) dun wanna kena humtum leh. :(

  5. #5 Suzhang,

Suzhang, will you be able to spare a couple of hours to conduct a workshop on how to make your pineapple tarts? I’m sure there are others who wouldn’t mind paying to learn from you.

    Cheers
    Ros

  6. Hi Ros
Thank you for your interest. Paiseh, can’t conduct any workshop as I don’t have the facility nor time. Appreciate yr understanding.

  7. Pineapple Tart Pastry
    Hi Ros,

If you dare to give it a try…..

    Pineapple Tart Pastry

    Ingredients
    • 1 lb. flour
    • 10 oz. butter
    • 2/3 egg yolks
    • Some cold water
    • 4 teaspoon castor sugar

    Method
Sift the flour and add in the castor sugar.
Using the pointed ends of a fork, rub the butter into the flour until it looked like fine bread crumbs. If necessary, use fingertips to continue rubbing lightly the bigger pieces into finer pieces.
Add egg yolks and cold water at the same time and knead well lightly combine them using finger tips (rather than kneading them like bread dough) before rolling out to desired thickness.
(The fork and fingertip technique is what makes the pastry special)
For baking, bake using Gas Mark 3 (160 degrees Celcius / 325 degrees Fahrenheit) for 20 minutes. When placing jam onto the pastry, take caution not to smear jam onto the sides as this will easily “burn” and render the sides of the pastry (the flowery design) darker.

For the filling, you can buy it from Phoon Huat.

It takes a lot of effort to make it.

    Enjoy!!

  8. Dear all, my name is yen-yen and have been a very inactive member of SHC. I read the article on home-made CNY cookies with interest and am a great fan of loveletters. If any member is selling, I wld like to buy.

I’ve been receiving SHC newsletters which makes interesting reading and as such very updated with the happenings but have yet to participate in the events todate. I will make it to one of the events when schedule permits.

Ladies and gentlemen, pls continue to be hip, cool & happening… :o)

  9. Hi Terence,
I have an Aunt who makes tasty Pineapple Tarts and Almond Cookies from her home for the Chinese New Year. As they are not made by me, am I allowed to sell for her to SHC members ?
    Trying to help her.

    Thank you.

  10. Judging from the feedback on making and selling some of the goodies made for Chinese New Year, it looks like most SHCians and their families are going to Johore Bahru to buy CNY tidbits. Maybe this Post comes too early.

Please keep this Post to strictly SHC members only.

  11. Just a reminder to those buying goodies from JB.If possible try not to buy goodies that contain eggs, also one is not allowed to bring in bak kwa(bbq pork).

Just to inform those who wish to stock up on fresh seafood like fish and prawns, you can head down to Larkin Market for prawns and fish.

  12. Hi Lilian

Yes I hear you now. Past few weeks was busy with memorising my songs.

I bake pineapple tarts, various types of cookies and cakes for my family and my sisters’ families for every CNY.

However this year, I will not be doing much because I do not have a domestic helper, cleaning and washing takes up a lot of my time daily. Will probably make some for myself only this year. Told my sisters that they have to buy their goodies this year. Sorry to disappoint you.

    Carly

  13. Hi Alfred @# 12,

The Almond cookies are excellent and the pineapple tarts are also good. :) The pineapple tarts are so pretty-looking, it seems so sayang to eat them!

    Thanks for the recommendation :)
