    5. Any other business –
I’ve booked badminton court at Bt Gombak sports stadium on 5/4 and 12/4 (Thursday) 10.00am to 11.00am. Court 6. It is open to all interested peoples not necessarily westerlies. The stadium is at Bt Gombak MRT station. Parking is HBD coupon, not ERP gantry.

  2. Dear Inez,
I shall be attending the monthly meeting on 13th.April at IMM. Shall be looking forward to seeing all you Westerners. Cheerio!

  3. I fully agree with Primrose Kok on her use of “Westerners” in clear reference to SHC members living in Bt. Batok, Jurong East or West and Tuas. Easterners are those in Bedok or Siglap and our SHC northerners are staying in Upper Bt. Timah or Kranji farmlands.

Westerners, northerners, easterners and southerners and heartlanders(Chinatown residents) actually refer to residents inside designated geographic areas of a country. Whereas, Westerly, Northerly, Easterly and Southerly are merely directional pointers and they do not refer to people at all. A Westerner in Singapore can be a Chinese, Malay, Indian, Eurasian, Korean or even any Caucasian Singaporean businessman living in the western part of Singapore.

Please don’t get me wrong, I am not advocating for a change from “Westerlies” to “Westerners” in deference to Inez Lim.
May I take this opportunity to apologize to Inez Lim in advance should he be offended by my interpretation.

Owing to a prior appointment, I couldn’t attend the meeting for the Westerlies on 13 Apr/12.

    Best Rgds,

  4. Hi Inez,

Enjoy playing the two games James and you introduced to us.

The first one that got choice of reading words or colours help challenge my attention ability and flexibility. I tend to read words more quickly and automatically than naming the colours. About 10 mins of play I wanted to rest my lazy brain :)

The second is fun to play. It’s like a speed matching game. I can quickly pick simple pairing of three, but when trying to go for more complicated match I loose out.

The next gathering if you want more to play the second games you may have to bring say 3 sets for four player each group. Yesterday there are about 12 members attended.

Look forward to the next westerlies meet.

    Cheers! :)

  5. Inez,

Your comment has been transferred here.

“Hi all attendees of the meeting at IMM on 13 April. To those I didn’t get your names correctly, please accept my apologies – getting old la.. To those who participated in the quiz, i hope you enjoyed it – next time i will award prizes – OK?? There was a suggestion to hold meetings at Senior Citizen’s corners of HDB void decks which are under-utilised on weekdays – and also allows for easier mingling instead of just straight rows of tables. There are also tables for card games etc. Would appreciate your views and suggestions. Have a great weekend!! Cheers

    Inez”

  6. The Westerlies meeting is not able to continue as Vincent Khoo found himself not able to communicate through the web and forum; as he does not have a computer. He is unable to find a successor.

Is there anyone who lives in the West and likes to take the role of EO for the monthly Westerlies meeting?

    Terence Seah

  7. Hi Terence,

Have you found anyone to be EO for the Westerlies? I have previously started the post of ‘The Westerlies wind are blowing’ and am considering to assume this role.

    Dan

  8. Hi Dan #15,

I would be most happy to have you as the EO for the Westerlies monthly gathering.

The monthly gathering should ideally be located close to a MRT station. It is important that we consider convenience, although there are many nice clubs in Singapore. Not everybody has a car.

Food should be available off the counter, and members get to choose what they want to drink and eat. There should be flexibility with numbers ie no need to commit to the venue the number of people, costs. Time should suit those who are not working. Once in a while, an event to cater to the still working members would be great.

Cater to members who take buses and MRT. And, for parking, consider free parking for a few hours. After a few years running, and we get a feel of the numbers, we can venture to other venues.

Whether there is an agenda or topic, depends on you. But, what I have observed is members like to know one another and find their own interests and hobbies.

Sure, if you understand these needs, I shall be pleased if you take over the role of Westerlies EO.

    Terence Seah
