Survey on “How to make SHC more vibrant?”

Hi May Woo,

I need your help to create a survey.   First, I shall get feedback on what are the possible questions from members.

Hi everybody,

All of us have either participated in the Club’s forum, in different events organised by fellow members and have organised activities for other members.  Among us, some of us are just reading the Club’s chat, not participating or waiting for a later date to participate or to organise an activity.  Some of us are not keen to participate.

Some of us feel the club can be more vibrant.  Of course, each of us have different perception of "What is vibrant?"

Well, I am going to ask May to create a survey with 10 questions which will be sent to all members.  I think a survey would be interesting.  You are invited to write here a question, which would be part of the 10 questions we will ask.  "How to make SHC more vibrant?".  Include 3 or 5 multiple choice answers. The top 10 most relevant questions will be chosen to form the survey.

Closing date:  15 April 2012.

I hope you will participate.

  1. Hi Terence! Here’s my contribution.

    Question
What are the activities you would like to participate in if they’re being organized?
    a) Weekend picnics
    b) Movie outing
    c) Late night supper
    d) All of the above

    Cheers
    Ros

  2. Hi Terence

Maybe we take a look at our SHC Gathering first. Its like we know what we are going to do. Just eat, talk and then go home (except gatherings with Frisna and Yat Sing and a few others which I may have missed as EOs which had some of the elements mentioned in my next para – which are rare).

We can have a theme gathering where we come up with some surprise games, skits or competitions. Or even some cake decoration(cakes and icing can be made in advance), face drawing, hairstyling (amateur category) or even hula hoop competitions. It will be nice to have these if held at a member’s condo function room.

I miss my BBQs and Picnics. We can have a picnic by the beach where everyone come in Hawaiin shirts/blouses, shorts and slippers. Have a little music and relax to enjoy the stars and moon cos I noticed that usually after everyone have had their dinner, they are in a hurry to pack up to go home.

    My thoughts for now :)

    Cheers
    Carly

  3. Further to Rosalind’s activities, I have a few more to add:

    1. Short cruise to Phuket/Penang (i’m planning one in July)
    2. Short trip to Bali (i’m planning one in Sep)
    3. Monthly karaoke/dance sessions (which Jeff is already doing)

    Cheers!

Trip to Taipei to participate in Taipei 101 Run Up and includes activities like short cycling session to some corner, shopping, sightseeing/visiting places of interest (especially the flower festival where u get a chance to see cherryblossoms) n eating. Taipei has good food. Also not forgetting dip in the hotspring pool.

  5. Survey – question for consideration

Which of these mind-stretching activities are you interested in doing?
    1. sudoku puzzles
    2. memory puzzles/exercises
    3. crossword puzzles
    4. all the above
    5. none of the above

  6. Hi guys!

It’s all about “passion”: If we have passion for the activity or subject in question, then there will be vibrancy. I have come to this conclusion after reading through the many posts and participating in the organised activities of the SHC.

We do not need to look further than the walking and cycling groups to see this passion in action. Yes, it can be about what people really want to experience, what activity they wish, what interests them, but ultimately it is the passion of the organiser or team involved which would inject the vibrancy.

I can see that the walking group committee is fully involved in their monthly activity; I am seriously considering joining them for the Bukit Brown/MacRitchie walk.

I met up with Yew Kwong during our recent monthly meet, and he hasn’t lost his passion for cycling. Something he said about cycling to keep our knee joints in good shape has inspired me to unfold my folding bike again.

Rosalind has some great ideas for outdoor events, and Lydia has definite plans for Phuket and Bali.

I am sure that we can have a vibrant SHC with all these passionate people and more like them to lead in events.

  8. I think the survey is useful to understand the interests of its members although a multiple choice survey may not be the best. Some members may have more than one interest or need. I thought a selection of prioritized choices would cover more ground for the survey.

    Of course, confidentiality is must.

These are my few cents worth :-)

(Please prioritize the following- 1 for most important, 2 for second etc.., 0 if it is not a consideration at all)

    1. My key reasons for joining SHC
    – It provides a platform for me to meet and socialize with other members ( )
    – It allows me to contribute in organizing activities which I am keen in ( )
    – It allows me to participate in activities organized by fellow members ( )
    – It provides a platform for me to explore business opportunities ( )
    – It allows me the opportunity to know fellow members in the hope of developing closer and meaningful relationship ( )

    2. I believe SHC
    – Should be a formal structure where every member contributes effort to make the Club successful ( )
    – Should be a loose structure where committed members organize activities and other members feel free to participate ( )
    – Should provide an avenue for those who need financial assistance ( )
    – Should make a distinction between those committed to make the Club activity-filled and those who are contented to participate in the activities organized ( )
    – Should focus on social outreach rather than merely organizing activities for its members ( )

    3. My key interest in SHC is in
    – Social activities such as travelling, parties, karaoke etc ( )
    – Sports and recreational activities such as walking, running, badminton etc( )
    – Social outreach such as Home visits, fundraising for the underprivileged, etc ( )
    – Self renewal in areas of health, spiritual, mental, social rehabilitation or enhancement ( )
    – Life planning for the future ( )

  9. One activity that has not been organised so far is home-parties. Members can organise one and interested members can sign up subject to a certain number up to the organising member to decide. It can include meals or just snacks which will be paid by the member concern. Can this suggestion be put in the survey to gauge interest and viability?

  10. Thank you to members who have participated in providing questionaires to our survey on “How to make SHC more vibrant?”.

The questions will now be tabulated and sent out to all members this week.
