  1. It must surely be divine gift if one is blessed with ALL the ingredients Kia mentioned. For me, other than positive thinking which one can control with one’s mind, the rest arent easy to come by for many ordinary folks.

Heredictary genetic defects can and do affect health altho regular exercises & keeping faith to a balanced diet does help.

One wd hv held a job which paid well for a larger part of his work-life to be financially independent in retirement provided one doesnt seek fun dabbling in funds carelessly, leaving one no fund and no fun eventually.

Natural humour is even harder to find in a person. Clowns pander rehearsed humour to the audience but in their quiet moments, they cry. Some of us wear an invisible straghtjacket on our face. Even the tickle of the armpits wont bring on him a tiny smile.

Family support ? Well and yes, we can be hopeful.

Finally, finding good friends in SHC. Maybe this is the easiest to do but as the saying goes, it takes 2 hands to clap. So perhaps, the one who will find good friends is himself/herself a good friend to make.

  2. Me thinks its contentment; be content with what you have, be it be as little or as much. Like the gentleman said, some things are beyond our control…. health, wealth, family, whatever… but we ought to make the best of what is given to us in life.

Now, the things that are within our control… our attitude and sense of humour, and disposition… grab them and use them for things outside our control, and life could be a breeze… or not! Would never be dull, though, especially with help from SHC (Supremely High Companion…aiyoh God, lah). Of course, cannot deny Silverhairs do help too.

  3. Hahaha, “SHC = Supremely High Companion”…………….well said, I like that.

Obviously, we all have high regards and very best wishes for SHC, and really look on it for fellowship, serious fun only we sebiors know; even solace and shoulders to cry on (some might continue to lean on after crying, heee). Sure, it’s a high companion of the supreme kind which makes all of us supreme commanders………an accolade quite unfairly associated to juntas thus far.

  4. Happiness is a state of the mind. “Many people are as happy as they make up their mind to be.” I agree that is one of the secrets for happiness in life. And also, DO NOT compare. This is because when we compare, we tend to compare with those upwards and not those who are unfortunate and below us.

For the suggested 5 ingredients to enjoy our retirement, we can look at them from two perspectives as follows:

    A. When we are in our 30s we can prepare ourselves as follows:

    1. Good health – lead a healthy lifestyle, regular exercise, eat in moderation etc.

2.Financially independent – save our income as much as possible, be frugal and invest wisely for old age

    3. Positive attitude – try to see a glass as half full most of the time rather than as half empty. To appreciate what we already have.

    4. Sense of Humour – this can be due to our genes but in general, try not to take things too seriously. Try to see the funny side of things.

    5. Support from family members and friends – from early, we need to cultivate our family members and friends especially when they are around. In fact, as mentioned, to get support from them, we need to be supportive of and be positive with them ourselves most of the time.

    B. When we are seniors as retirees, we will need to do the above and in addition to take an audit of ourselves and take remedial actions as follows:

    1. good health – seek medical treatment if we are not well. Go for regular check-up, reduce stress, if any.

    2. financially independent – to live within our means. If inadequate, we may want to consider to do part-time work, if able.

    3. positive attitude – to continue to adopt a positive attitude in spite of any setback.

    4. sense of humour – to continue to see the funny side of things. This reminds me of a story of someone who was shot and seriously injured by, I believe, a robber. At the hospital, the surgeon treating him asked him whether he was allergic to any thing. He answered “Yes, to bullets.”

    5. support from family members and friends – to continue to support our family members and friends. To treasure their company and friendship. All of them have some goodness in them.
