Dumpling Festival Celebrations 2016

Hi fellow SHC members

I’m having a Karaoke event on stage.  Yes, you will get a chance to sing on stage!  No prior registrations, hassle free.  Just bring along your KCD and go up stage and sing.

Yes, and there will be an audience.  This is an EC event, organised by Pasir Ris East CC, and open to members of the public.  Tickets are priced at $5 each.  For a princely sum of $5, you will get buffet food served as hi-tea, 2 pcs of dumplings, take part in chinese tea appreciation, take part in a game with prizes to be won, a dumpling competition, sing on stage, dance, drama and a lucky draw too.

Date : 19th June 2016 (Sunday)

Time : 2:00pm till 5:00pm

Venue : Pasir Ris East CC, Multi-purpose Hall.  Pasir Ris Avenue 1 (pls google for directions there)

Short getaway to Batam – tentative dates 20-23 Nov 2015

I’m planning a short getaway to Batam, either 2 or 3 nights.

Tentative dates are 20-23 Nov 2015. These dates can be adjusted to suit your schedule, either 4th week Nov, or even December.

Activities will be free & easy.  Karaoke, good food, massage, music, cycle, etc..

Room will be basic, but comfortable enough, with breakfast thrown in.

Karaoke can be either arranged in a room or out in the open stage!

Food guaranteed good and cheap.  And massages also good and cheap!

And of course, the fun fun company … laughter & jokes all the way !

Depending on the response, I will arrange a 6 seater car, so that we can all travel together.   Yes, I am intending to keep the group small.

July’s Dance Nite Out …. 26th July 2013 (friday) .. Union Square Amara Hotel

Calling all dance enthusiasts.. music lovers… or those who just want to hang out on a Friday night…

July’s Dance Nite will be at Union Square – Ntuc Club – Amara Hotel.

This club has a cuban band playing mostly latin music like merengue, salsa, bachata, samba, rumba, cha cha. Band start from 9.30 pm. All the way till the wee hours of 2.30am!

For the early birds, the DJ will spin music to your request, as early as 7pm. So if you want to do your style of dancing, come by at 7pm.

Drinks at 40% discount before 9 pm for ntuc members and after 9 pm 20% discount.

This is a very cosy place, nice ambience and a good size dance floor.

There are many buses plying along Tanjong Pagar road, and the nearest MRT station is Tanjong Pagar Station, just a few minutes stroll away.

A visit to the ISTANA on Friday

The Istana grounds will be open to the public on Friday, 4th Feb 2011, from 8:30am to 6pm, for CNY celebrations.

Visitors will be entertained by 3 school bands, a Chinese dance performance by PA Talents and an exhibit from Jurong Bird Park.

Admission is free for Singaporeans and PR and $1 for other visitors.  For $2, visitors can tour selected function rooms in the Istana Building.  Istana souvenirs will also be sold, with all proceeds going to charity.

As usual, crowds will be anticipated, hence, for those interested in going, it is advisable to go early.

A Date with Friends @ The Esplanade on Sunday, 7th Nov

I’ve some wonderful news to share …. There’s a free concert this Sunday @ The Esplanade’s Outdoor Theatre.  It’s non-stop “Back to the 60’s” type of music by one of Singapore’s singing sensation. There’ll be plenty of Elvis type of songs, and hits by other singing legends of the 60’s. There will be a live band and the outdoor ambience will be good.  But be prepared for a crowd.  If you’re coming, let me know, and I’ll reserve seats for you.  Drop me an email/sms or register your interest here.

It’s free seating, first come first serve.

The schedule is as follows:

6:15 – 7:00 pm   1st session
7:30 – 8:15pm    2nd session
8:45 – 9:30pm    3rd session

Venue :   Changi Golf Club  (check out the exact location on changigolfclub.org.sg) .. good ambience .. best priced countdown in a relaxed ambience… no need to dress up!  No need to wear high heeled dance shoes!

There’s a direct bus no. 29 from Tampines Interchange.  Transport arrangements can be sorted out.

Starts @ 6pm on 31st December;  dinner will be served at 7:30pm.  But you can come in earlier to soak in the fresh sea breeze and fresh air, or walk along the Changi Boardwalk.  For those keen on karaoke, you may come in as early at 3.30pm to sing your hearts out.

East Zone get-together on 2 October (Sat)

Can all those who are coming.. please pay $10 to Bernie’s account asap… deadline is 27th Sep … I’ve had feedback that $12 is too expensive… hence I’m lowering the cost to $10…  there will be slight changes to the menu … and yes, this event is open to all members & their friends as well.

We’re having our next get-together in Lydia’s clubhouse in Pinevale, Tampines Street 73.  Well, it’s not exactly a 5 star resort kind of place, but we’ll have a good time, you can swim, jacuzzi, sauna, play tennis, jog, karaoke, or singalong.  A simple dinner will be arranged too.  For karaoke enthusiasts, please bring along your favourite CD.  We will even have singalong if the guitarists turns up. Clara/Lydia will be the disc jockey for the night, and will entertain you with song & dance.   Frisna/Lydia/YatSing will be the game co-ordinator.  Any other volunteers for games or ideas, please raise your hand.

Fong Fong has recommended a wonderful caterer, Water-rise.  They make delicious food.  We’re considering the following items… menu is still subjected to changes, at the moment.

Kukup CNY weekend getaway (Feb 20th – 21st, 2010)

I am the EC for this Kukup weekend getaway, departing early morning of 20th Feb (Sat), returning late on 21st Feb (Sun). 

Price : S$123 per person (2 to share a room @ double storey resort)

All meals included in price.  Coach transport from Singapore, and return.

Actitivities planned includes Karaoke, Dancing, BBQ, Mahjong, Card Games.

Highlights would be firiing of "live" firecrackers from rooftop to usher in the Year of Tiger.  Something that is not allowed in Singapore!

What’s happening on 12th/13th September 2008?

There’s been a lot of buzzing & confusion going on.  Some members are clueless as to what’s going on.  Some are not even aware of this event.  It’s  a celebration of the mid-autumn Festival,  done the SHC style.  Make yourself free, do not miss out the fun.  Ron Wie has booked a chalet at the NSRCC, and members can choose to stay overnight.  If you wish to stay overnight, and wants to share a room, pls drop an email to Lydia Chin.  Alternatively, just bring along your sleeping bag or tent, or borrow Terence’s camping tent.  The event line up, as of today, is as follows.  This is still subjected to further changes.

Day 1  (Friday, 12th September 2008)

  • 1:30pm     First shuttle bus departs from Tanah Merah MRT Station 
  • 2pm          Proceed to check into chalet no 10
  • 2-3pm       Origami (led by Ron Koh) 
  • 3-4pm       Scrabble, board games or Mahjong or karaoke (free & easy)
  • 4-7pm       Nature Walk along the beach : includes intro to qigong & nature photography.                  If  you’re coming for this item, pls bring your walking shoes, umbrella, hat & camera.  
  • 7pm           Dinner –  Pot Luck session.  Each person to bring along an item of food, wine, juice, enough for about 15 pax.  If you’re coming for this session, pls let us know what food item you’ll be bringing.  Post your food item on this thread.
  • 7:45pm till late      Line dance Jam Session (led by Hamida, our dance instructor).  We will be polishing up our line dance item for the coming Oct 15th meeting.  If you want to be a member of the performing group,  do not miss this first practice, which will be held during this Jam session.

Day 2 (Saturday, 13th September 2008)

  • 8am       Breakfast for those staying overnight (or those who wish to come in early)
  • 9am       Beach Walk or cycling  
  • Noon      Lunch (menu & venue to be determined later)
  • 2pm       Hair Cutting demo cum Hair Workshop by Lisa
  • 4pm       Free and easy – games , walking, cycling , Karaoke etc
  • 6:30pm     Lantern Festival Pot luck – bring food and you own hand made lanterns.  Beach party   will carry on for those who enjoy sitting by the beach
  • 8:30pm till late  – Dancing till the wee hours of the night from specially selected CD music & guest singers.  If music & dance is not your cup of tea, proceed to a quiet spot for some romancing.

Dance Jam night @ Kembagan CC – 31 Aug 08 Sun

Calling all dancing enthusiast.  Social dancers as well as line dancers.  Come on down to Kembagan CC on Sunday, 31st August 2008, 7pm till 10pm.  We’re having a practice session for social dance as well as line dance.  This CC is just beside the Kembagan MRT station.  Walk along a canal and you will see it.

Ron Wie & I are trying to form a performing team for the meeting on 15th October 2008.  So if you’re interested to be part of this performing team, make it a date with us.  Come for the first practice. 

PS> There will be a small fee of $3 per head to use the CC dance studio, for non members of the Kembagan Dance Club.
