Issues on investment or business

There has been frequent requests to have more discussions on business and investment on this forum.  However, many members feel that since the club’s  objective is to provide a platform to meet new friends, and that too much of business and investments issues on this forum tend to clog up this website, especially for those with no interests in business or investments.

I guess many members are still working, and many are comfortable with their retirement plans.  Some have reacted strongly and negatively to pure business and investment discussions.  A good number sees such discussions as advertising.  Advertising is not allowed on this website.  However, I am equally aware that there is also a strong desire by some members to develop business ideas and investment.

This website isn’t ideal to meet different group’s needs.

However, we can easily allow those who are interested in business or investment discussions, to view the thread, while those who are not interested, will not see the thread.  The forum wont be cluttered.

I am not so sure how to do it yet; but for a start if you wish to lead a discussion on business or investments, please write directly to me.  Leaders of such groups must be active, and keep the discussions or projects going.  Examples:  "An adverture club", "setting up shop", "investment seminars", etc. In principle, if a member has an interest to do something worthwhile to the SHC community, we will support the idea.

  1. Dennis, we can do a thread for private investments. Please email me the details of this thread.

All other members, if you have an investment or business thread that you will lead, please email me too.

  2. 1 man’s meat may be another’s poison so it’s an exercise in futility to cater to everyone’s needs, whims or even fancies. Dont even try, you sure die.

Similarly, no one shd say that my interest comes first and anythg else is trivial, trash only to clutter.

To me, every thread clearly carries a topic which tells you what to expect if you click to read it. Clip yr eyelids, do smthg else if the topic doesnt appeal.

It’s a sad day for SHC if someone dictates what he/she wants, and succeeds.

  3. Tim,

I have no disagreement with what you say.

Many of us do not want to see advertisements on this forum. Recurring suggestions to attend seminars, especially the speculative ones, get rich programs, forex and equity trading, make money programs, can however be seen and read by members interested in them, if they opt to read them.

I wish there is an easier way to filter out such advertising.

We respect all members’ business, but we also need to respect this forum, which is intended as a platform for SilverHairsClub members to communicate with one another, and meet new and more friends.

We get frequent advertising entries each week. And this needs to be moderated. I trust you understand this issue, even though you may not agree with the ideas taken.

Aiyah, let’s give it a go. Don’t make my life too difficult.

  4. Terence, we spoke briefly. Now I know where you’re coming from (Kadang Kerbau but that’s not the point) and yes, as I read on, I do get the feel that there may be opportunists joining SHC but come with an ulterior motive which they’ll advance.

These people may not be seen much at SHC functions, and if they do appear, their pitch is all about sales, their sales, not Robinsons sales.

However, we’re at least forty five but if up there we are no better than a faulty device, then we’ll anywhere get conned.

Caveat emptor i.e. let the buyer beware.

But bcos you founded SHC, there’s this bit more onus on you to watch & ensure that the SHC objectives wont get subverted. Within yr means, you will filter & sieve out the scam & scum. You hv our usual activists and me on yr side.

Actually, it is not a question of censorship, “yes” or “no”. At our age, as lay elders of the society if we can’t think for ourselves then when? Do we wait a bit further down the line until we really lose it all to dementia.

In practise, it is not difficult. Take the new post “Medical Innovations for Health”
    http://silverhairsclub.com/2008/01/1392
In an open active forum, no one should be able to make a questionable comment and recommendation without challenge. Knowledge can only be advanced if the community is prepared to debate and critic its own processes and thoughts.

If no one is prepared or able to discuss an issue then there is no interest. It will die a natural death. We are not each other’s self-imposed guardians. We lose every vestige of ourelves if we delegate our thinking to someone. Then others will have the right to our existence.

Just look at the current US president primaries. Is society better off with or without active, noisy, explicit and systemic debate on all kind of issues in all forms. Or do we meet debate with deadly force as in Iraq, Afghanistan. Which leads us back to the question posed by Matrix. “Is there only ONE?”

  6. Terence, just hope that I don’t make life too difficult for you. I believe that there is always a way to improve your system.

Incidentally two private post had being created one by myself the other by you for me. Are they for the same objective. Mine don’t have a direct password display on the thread.

    What is your advise.

    Together we will achieve MORE….DennisH

Sadly this has happened, not here in SHC but outside where yr every time is……….

The US has become a joke. Soon, they’ll hv halloween everyday.

Didnt the Roman Empire gall? Didnt Great Britain become lesser than great?

Dont bet that the sun wont rise from the west, what with saudi princes pumping in money to save american banks…………….

  8. Hi Terence I had deleted one private thread because the website system only recognise one private password at a time. I am exploring the edit function on the same comments # for updating.

  9. Dear Friends

Generally, there are four types of money managers : consumers, savers, speculators and investors.

Within investors, there are broadly three categories : passive, conservative and savvy.

There are seven broad-bands of investments: businesses, equity markets, derivatives, commodities, real estate, currencies and debt.

How much one will delve into and how deep will depending on individual scope, capacity and mental, emotional and psychology make-up.

We can be engaged and connected with any interested and well meaning groups who are keen and want to learn/share/progress.

    Warmest regards

    Andrew

  10. Hi Andrew

Your 15-sec summary is interesting and I know I have a lot to learn and a little to share. I am glad that you have a lot to teach and are willing to share.

  11. Andrew @ #13

    Wow. So many. Impressive.

I always thought there are only three types of everything in investments. Those who make money, those who don’t; and those who think they do but don’t.

Look forward to your talk. Have much to learn.

  12. Dear Joy and KT

We can learn much from each other.

I will be travelling to China this Wednesday early morning, invited to a welcome banquet on 1st evening and mgt dinner on Thursday evening. So cannot join you folks this Thursday evening.

Hope we can communicate one way or the other.
