Rollerblading….anyone?

Hi, my name is Stella, 48 years old.  Main hobbies are swimming, cycling, rollerblading, mahjong and reading.  I am looking for friends who are interested to go rollerblading.  I am not a professional in this sport.  Just started sometimes in October last year and have not been rollerblading for about 2 to 3 months due to work commitment.  Wanted to start again.  Its a good form of exercise.

  1. Actually, I used to roller skate and ice skate. I have got a pair of in line skates (roller blades) Think it would be fun to really try it out. I am interested.

  3. Hi Stella,

Hannah and myself started rollerblading from ECP to Changi Village recently. We try to meet around 3pm so that we can be back towards ECP before it gets too dark.

Besides rollerblading, I ice skate frequently too. If you are keen you can join us for roller-blading, and join me for ice skating.

    Cheers
    Kathryn

  4. Hi Kathryn, I would love to join you and Hannah. Is this on Sundays? If so, I better polished up my skills as have not been blading for quite a while. Let me know when is your next trip and I will make myself free. Reading from the comments above, Bobby Yee seems interested in rollerblading too. Do you mind him joining? Bobby, if you read this, do you mind?

Thanks Mary for your info. And Hi to Norlinda, nice to read your comments! Hope to meet all of you one day at the cycling event…but first let me settle down with rollerblading :-)))

  5. Hi Stella,

All are welcome. So far we skated on Saturdays. Joined SHC’s monthly cycling in June and July, but Hannah and myself rollerbladed instead of cycling. In July we bladed with a few SHC cyclists to Changi Village while the regular cycling group went towards Ford Road.

I think Alicia (and Mike) may be interested in rollerbalding too. This Sat is National Day and most people might be occupied. Most likely will rollerblade around 3pm with Hannah (or anyone else who might be interested to rollerblade) unless something crops up. We will confirm by Thursday.

If you can rollerblade only on Sundays, occasionally I can make it in the morning otherwise usually around 5pm to 6pm. If you wish to communicate more, my email: kathrynlhn@hotmail.com

    Cheers
    Kathryn

  6. Hi Stella, Hannah, and Karthyn,

Will join you all blading this coming 16th August, or if you all do plan on other days. I usually like to skate at the East Coast too, but dont like skating alone, except when there are some people cycling then I will join them.

So sure will like to join you all, if there is a group, more fun too. Cheers

  7. Hi Stella

Meet near the hawker centre between 3pm to 330pm it is confirmed. Hannah can make it. My concern is whether the traffic will be hindered from where I will be coming from… ie, Telok Blangah via AYE.

Hey Stella, could you send me an email so that we can exchange our mobile numbers – we can call each other on Saturday

You have your own boots and safety gear?

    Cheers
    Kathryn

  8. Hi Everyone,
I’m new to SHC. Anyway, one of my interests is rollerblading & have been blading around Bishan Park. I wouldnt mind joining in the next time you go out so please let me know.
    Cheers

  9. Hi Andrew

A few of us skate &/or cycle weekly at ECP (to Changi Village). Stella is rollerblading around Bishan Park too. Whereas I rollerblade mainly at ECP, and ice-skate at Fuji Ice Palace. Do you ice-skate? Have not been able to find a kaki for ice-skating.

If you would like to join us you might like to send me an email and I will let you know whenever we fix the date and time. It is quite flexible dependng on who can make it on which day and time, and they just go ahead. May end up only two or three pax.

    My email: kathrynlhn@hotmail.com

    Cheers

  10. Hi Andrew

Stella and myself will be participating in a 10km night skating organised by Skateline on 30th August at 7:30pm. You can have a look at website: skateline.com.sg for more info and route.

Any SHC members interested to participate, please take a look at the website, just need to email to the Leader, Jon. Hope to see some members

    Cheers

  11. Hi Kathryn,

Thanks for telling us about the Skateline Monthly Saturday Night Skating around various parts of Singapore.

Last night was really full of fun, thrills, excitement and exhilaration of conquering some of our fears of going up and down overhead crossings, Bedok, Tampines and Pasir Ris town central bumpy areas on our skates.

This is extracted from Skateline.com.sg website.

“Singapore’s first and most established monthly mass skate happens on the last Saturday of every month (on some special occasions it may happen earlier in the month). Join scores of urban skaters every month as Skate Assist Volunteers (SAV) bring us through exciting first-time-ever or tried-and-tested skate routes across the island.”

The above event (30th Aug) was very well handled and catered to beginners too, as half of the skaters are Skate Assist Volunteers who pratically lined up at every risky strechers to help you. The really encouraging thing is their ages range from 6 to 60. Even the six year old is very encouraging with words like ‘ So easy lah’. The event is also free of charge to all and they even have an air-con coach to ferry you back to ECP or to Bishan.

I have been wanting to do this since a year ago, so Stella, Andrew, Alicia and all other would be skaters, come and join us every Saturday at 3.30pm at ECP as Kat and me would try to be the SAV to get your all moving into this fun. If Bicyling is fun this is like floating on cloud nine, especially when you see young and old zooming while interveaving one and other what seemed like a co-ordinated pattern to whatever music you may be listening.

So Stella, Andrew, Alicia, Mike and all, Kat and me would be happy to get you prepared for next month Sat Night Skating. We planned to skate on Sats from ECP Skateline (near Burger King) to CV (or nearer) starting at 3.30pm, possibly joining Douglas cycling group too.

Some words of encourgament one 62 year old just took up skating at 58. ONe young lady started only in May and was already joining us comfortably. Heard not sure if it is true, some senior ministers are also learning skating, question why, the thrill is just irresistible, try it and you will know ?? Cheers.

  12. Hi Ronald

I am so happy for you and Kathryn that both of you made it for the SNS last night! My apologies for not joining as I felt that my skills is still not up to par to go for long distance. Especially when it comes to slope which is my biggest problem.

It is good that both of you have planned to be our SAV for SHC members. To support, I will try to re-arrange my kid’s class to Sunday and join all of you on Saturday at 3.30pm.

I hope by then I have enough of training to participate in the next SNS.

    Warmest regards
    Stella

  13. Good Stella, Ann, Alicia and others who are thinking of joining us at ECP on 6 Sept Sat at 3.30pm.

About more info on Skateline and SNS go to this website.

    Skateline.com.sg

    Cheers

  14. Hey Ron,

Glad that you enjoyed yourself, and to hear that you also made a couple of new skating friends during SNS. Actually it was Stella who told me about Skateline and their SNS.

I will be most happy to give a helping hand for anyone wishing to skate but must clarify that I am not as expert or experienced like those Skateline SAVs. I am not good too with emergency stops and steep downhill unless the downhill is clear of obstacles like traffic lights and pedestrians! I have been rollerblading along ECP to SAFRA for some time but started skating further than SAFRA on rough terrains only about a couple of months ago.

However if you are keen on ice skating…. hmmm well different story. Ice skating is my first passion.
Can teach yo a few tricks or so. ;-) Anyone keen?

Perhaps we can combine the monthly cycling with rollerblading – long distance?

    Cheers
    Kathryn

  15. Hi all,
Stella and Kat, prefers saturday skating from ECP to CV (or nearer) to be changed to Sat 6 Sept 8.30am (instead of 3.30pm), meeting at Skateline beside (Burger King).

The reason is that it would be better for new comers to skate during the day. So Alicia/Mike, Andrew, Ann and all those who want to join in please take note of the time change.

Actually may also prefer to be earlier, says at 8am if the majority can get there in time ???

    Cheers

  16. Hi Ronald

Thanks for the update. Its perfectly fine for me in the morning. Kat, are you still keen on breakfast at Mac? If so, then we would have to meet at 7.30am same place??

    See you…
    Stella
