Monthly Walk to resume: 14Feb2009

Ever wondered the difference between hiking and walking?  I did and found some comparisons:

.. Hikers hike on natural trails, walkers walk on any surface – concrete, asphalt, gravel, sand.    [We walked all types]

.. Hikers seek natural environments – forests, mountains, parks. Walkers walk anywhere.     [Right! We walked everywhere not just anywhere…. Ha]

.. Hikers like to dress the part…. in natural fibers, sturdy hiking boots, a hiking stick. Walkers may look like anybody else out strolling down the street.    [some of our walkers came in hiking shoes, all set to go]

.. Hikers bring along essentials to deal with any emergency. Walkers take their house key and maybe their wallet and water bottle.     [hee hee hee]

Are you a hiker or walker?  Me think we are both, never mind…whatever…whichever…

Let’s Hit the Trail once again shall we?  At least One step one day… aha

SHC monthly walks will resume on Saturday, 14February 2009.   emoticon

.. Be punctual.
.. Stay close to the group and look out for each other’s safety.
.. If you are not feeling well, please inform your friends as well as the    EOs.
.. If you need to leave earlier, please inform the EOs prior to set-off.
.. Individuals are expected to adhere to rules set by relevant authorities.

Recommendation:
1) Wear ‘walking’ shoes; light, loose clothing
2) Bring a small bottle of water; umbrella/poncho
3) Optional items: cap, sun block, camera/binoculars, insect repellant
4) Bring only the minimum, light is good!

Even if you are speedy, you may want to take the extra time to – soak in the scenery, take photos, appreciate the beautiful blooms, the butterflies, the birds and bees, perhaps a squirrel or monkeys!  Time in the natural environment should be spent observing and enjoying rather than hurrying to a destination…. the leisure walks that are intended!
Let the joy of doing a pleasant activity be there always……. emoticon
