  1. 4 THINGS YOU PROBABLY NEVER KNEW YOUR MOBILE PHONE COULD DO

There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies. Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it:

    One: Emergency

The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile; network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out.

Two: Have you locked your keys in the car?

Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their mobile phone from your cell phone.
Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other ‘remote’ for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).

    Three: Hidden Battery Power

Imagine your mobile battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370# Your mobile will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your mobile next time.

Four: How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone?

To check your mobile phone’s serial number, key in the following digits on your phone!: * # 0 6 #, a 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. When your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won’t get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can’t use/sell it either.

  2. Hi Jonathan

Thanks for starting this thread. I am having some problem with my new desk top and was wondering where to get some help/tips so now I can borrow your thread to seek some help on my PC problem ;0)

I have a very very unusual problem….when I open the SHC site with my desktop, apparently some numbers just mysteriously went missing, eg YK’s A/c no for the Batam trip and Steven Chan’s a/c no for the lunch. There I was wondering how to transfer money to them without the number…but when I go into the site with my office PC the a/c numbers are all there, but when I log in on my PC again the nos. were GONE !!!!!, back to using office PC the numbers are BACK again !!!!!!

Received an e-mail a friend sent to me with his phone no. and the no. did show up but the next time I opened the same e-mail the no. disppeared ????

Wonder if I have a number eating virus in my pc ??????hahahahahaha

2nd problem, my e-mail to 3 of my regular contacts kept bouncing back to me and I checked that my e-mail was not blocked by them. Have been sending e-mail back and forth with no problem in the past but recently I can only receive their e-mails but cannot send to them….this happen even if I used different PC….strange problem again?????

Am using Karpesky anti virus software and just bought my PC Acer Aspire less than 6 months ago.

Can someone shed some lights on what could be the possible cause and how to rectify this strange problem ?

    Sockie

  3. Hi Jonathan,

I have tried using my hp to open my car door but have to say they don’t work.

One possible reason could be that the car’s remote locking system uses a RF (radio frequency) system to ‘communicate’.

RF signals cannot be passed through the hp system. While you may hear the ‘click’ from the remote control, it does not mean that the RF signal has been successfully passed through. What happens is the hp converts the RF signal to an audible one, ie a ‘click’, which ‘travels’ through the transponders to the other hp, but it is not an RF signal, which means the car remote system cannot comprehend and therefore cannot comply, ergo car is still locked.

Try it, but make sure your other hp is half a mile away.

    But I like your idea of a T & T post.

While on this topic perhaps I can contribute an item.
For those drivers with a ‘keyless’ system, don’t get caught in this scenario.
Husband drives car with his ‘keyless’ key. Wife is a passenger. Husband alights at MRT station, but the car engine is still running. Wife takes over, driving car back to house. Wife has the other ‘keyless’ key also. After about 10-20 mins, car stops and is immobilised. Nothing in the car works, cannot lock, listen to CD, cannot start, etc., etc.
Call agent who sends tow truck, brings car to workshop, re-program the car’s circuitry, owner has to re-do all radio, seat, reverse sensor and all other settings and pay a huge bill for the ‘service rendered’.

This can happen anywhere, in M’sian highway, etc.

    What happened?

“keyless” start systems have an anti-theft program whereby the key sends a signal to the car’s computer, when the key is used for starting the engine. Along the way the ‘key’ continues to ‘communicate’ with the computer, ever 10-20mins that the ‘keyless’ key is still within range. Whenever the caomputer detects that the ‘starting key’ is not in range, it is programmed to assume a robbery has taken place and it will immobilise the car.

So save yourself a pot of money whenever you drive these ‘keyless’ autos.

    Cheers

  4. I encountered login internet website problem but not sure if this is due to the StarHub TV and MaxOnline Wireless Broadband which I have subscribed.

    Funny scenario…………

I can’t login internet website with my laptop in my room upstairs, but I don’t faced this problem when I login internet website downstairs at the dining room & living room. Whereas my son can login internet website with his laptop in his room upstairs, but will have problem when he used his official laptop (sometime have to bring office work home); he too encountered problems of login internet website. So he has to bring his official laptop downstairs to do his work.

    1) My laptop – upstairs not working, downstairs no problem.
    2) My son’s laptop – upstairs working, of course downstairs also works lah.
    3) Official laptop – upstairs not working, downstairs no problem.

Why…why leh????? Laptop problem or Broadband problem?

    Ah Nee

  5. Hi Jonathan,

Good of you to start this thread as I am sure we can all share somethings from each others’ knowledge, experience, etc.

Ah Nee, seems very likely it is due to signal strength problem as the signal is weaker upstairs ( assuming your router is located downstairs). Your son’s laptop probably is newer with better reception sensitivity.

One way to solve the problem is to move the router nearer the common windows or near the staircase. Try also opening the doors and windows of the affected rooms. Ideally the router should not be blocked in an enclosed room, so move it somewhere around the stairs if there is one.

    Hope the advice can help.

    Cheers

  6. Hi Jonathan,

I’ve got an info to share, hope this is helpful.

THE BANANAS with dark patches on yellow skin

The fully ripe banana produces a substance called TNF which has the ability to combat abnormal cells. As the banana ripens, it develops dark spots or patches on the skin. The more dark patches it has, the higher will be its’ immunity enhancement quality. Hence the Japanese love bananas for a good reason.

According to a Japanese scientific research, banana contains TNF which has anti-cancer properties. The degree of anti-cancer effect corresponds to the degree of ripeness of the fruit, ie the riper the banana, the better the anti-cancer quality.

In an animal experiment carried out by a professor in Tokyo U comparing the various health benefits of different fruits, using banana, grape, apple, water melon, pineapple, pear and persimmon, it was found that banana gave the best results. It increased the number of white blood cells, enhanced the immunity of the body and produced anti-cancer substance TNF.

The recommendation is to eat 1 to 2 banana a day to increase your body immunity to diseases like cold, flu and others. According to the Japanese professor, yellow skin bananas with dark spots on it are 8 times more effective in enhancing the property of white blood cells than the green skin version.

So don’t be surprised very soon the shop will go out of stock for bananas.

  7. Hi

    Just one more to share.

    EATING FRUITS …….
    It’s long but very informative

We all think eating fruits means just buying fruits, cutting it and just popping it into our mouths. It’s not as easy as you think. It’s important to know how and when to eat.

What is the correct way of eating fruits?

IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUITS AFTER YOUR MEALS! FRUITS SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH.

If you eat fruit like that, it will play a major role to detoxify your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities.

FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD. Let’s say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from doing so.

In the meantime the whole meal rots and ferments and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil.

So please eat your fruits on an empty stomach or before your meals! You have heard people complaining – every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat durian my stomach bloats up, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet etc – actually all this will not arise if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. The fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas and hence you will bloat!

Graying hair, balding, nervous outburst, and dark circles under the eyes all these will not happen if you take fruits on an empty stomach.

There is no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are acidic, because all fruits become alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on this matter. If you have mastered the correct way of eating fruits, you have the Secret of beauty, longevity, health, energy, happiness and normal weight.

When you need to drink fruit juice – drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT from the cans. Don’t even drink juice that has been heated up. Don’t eat cooked fruits because you don’t get the nutrients at all. You only get to taste. Cooking destroys all the vitamins.

But eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice. If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it. You can go on a 3-day fruit fast to cleanse your body. Just eat fruits and drink fruit juice throughout the 3 days and you will be surprised when your friends tell you how radiant you look!

KIWI: Tiny but mighty. This is a good source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin E & fiber. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange.

APPLE: An apple a day keeps the doctor away? Although an apple has a low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants & flavonoids which enhances the activity of vitamin C thereby helping to lower the risks of colon cancer, heart attack & stroke.

STRAWBERRY: Protective Fruit. Strawberries have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits & protect the body from cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals.

ORANGE : Sweetest medicine. Taking 2-4 oranges a day may help keep colds away, lower cholesterol, prevent & dissolve kidney stones as well as lessens the risk of colon cancer.

WATERMELON: Coolest thirst quencher. Composed of 92% water, it is also packed with a giant dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune system. They are also a key source of lycopene – the cancer fighting oxidant. Other nutrients found in watermelon are vitamin C & Potassium.

GUAVA & PAPAYA: Top awards for vitamin C. They are the clear winners for their high vitamin C content. Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation. Papaya is rich in carotene; this is good for your eyes.

Drinking Cold water after a meal = Cancer! Can you believe this? For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion. Once this ‘sludge’ reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup, warm water or warm beer after a meal.
A serious note about heart attacks HEART ATTACK PROCEDURE’: (THIS IS NOT A JOKE!) Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting. Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line.. You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack . Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms.. Sixty percent of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let’s be careful and be aware. The more we know the better chance we could survive…

Do give this information a thought!

  9. HERBAL MEDICINE
A member was sharing about Herbal Medicine yesterday and I found the information both useful and interesting. One of the herbs mentioned was Gymnema Sylvestre.
This herb has been used as a naturopathic treatment for Diabetes. It has been shown to reduce blood sugar levels when taken over a period of time while Gymnema when chewed in the mouth, will blocked the sugar receptors in the tongue so reduces one’s craving for sugar. Here is one of nature’s many wonder remedies. It would be wonderful to hear from you if you have any such info to share. Meantime, I am going to find myself such a herb to grow and hopefully in time, reduce my indulgence in sweets and sugar, darlings excepted.

  11. REF: #10 Herbal Medicine

    Hi Hou Chong,
With regards to Gymnema Sylvestre, it can be easily cultivated if you have a garden as it grows very fast like a creeper. However, if you have a balcony with plenty of sunshine it will be just as conducive.

Hubby and I are not diabetic but if it could cut our blood sugar levels, we thought why not. So we potted it and chewed the leaves. I would harvest and stack 5 leaves, roll it up and shove it into my hubby’s mouth. It is a bit grassy in taste but then I love salad though my hubby does not so I normally let him finish off with a tiny piece of chocolate which probably cancelled out the potency of one leaf consumed.

In fact, I find the taste so refreshing that I developed a habit of chewing on one after a meal as a breath freshener.

A surprising result from consuming the herb for a week was that it regulated both our blood pressure levels – mine being excessively low to the point of fainting spells and der hubby being a little on the high side with his boh chap eating habits.

The only snag was that our potted herbs could not last very long in our apartment due to insufficient sunlight (talk about having chosen a too good apartment facing) and we had to eventually chuck out the withering plants which thrived for about 3 months. You can make stem cuttings and place them in various pots to get a better harvest of the leaves. It loves water so it has to be watered once in the morning and once in the night to generate faster growth.

You can get it in capsule form for approx. $40 or so in GNC but I think that is extravagant as I bought a whole packet of the leaves for $2 that lasted me for 3 weeks at Kampong Senang which was how I was introduced to it initially. Unfortunately, when I went back to get some more, the staff who attended to me had resigned and the rest of the folks were cluesless and showed me all kinds of other leaves…sigh.

You may have some luck if you go the actual Kg Senang cultivation ground at Tampines instead of the shop at Aljunied. You can check out their website on exact location.
You’d better google this herb and extract a picture from the net to ensure that you are getting the right plant or leaves in case the folks you encounter at Tampines are just as clueless.

To conclude is another testimonial from a dear friend of mine whose brother was diabetic but refused to take conventional medication and started taking this herb as a healthier alternative cure. Apparently, after 2 months of consistant usage of the herb in his salads and sandwiches (men are so picky when it comes to greens, hence the food disguises by their wives) that he was pronounced diabetic free by his doctor. Hooray!

This is such a miracle plant but strangely nobody here seems to know the local name of it so that it can command a sense of recognition when someone mentions it. It is supposedly very commonly grown in Malaysia. Can anyone here enlighten us on this herb namewise?

    (((Live long and Prosper)))
    Mad

  12. Hi Madeline, #12
Your friend’s testimony is very interesting and should provide encouragement to those who are diabetic. I suspect the ones who will benefit most from taking this miracle herb are those who have a low threshold for sugar, as opposed to a diabetic esp. of type 1 cat.

I am not a diabetic and like you, feel that cutting our blood sugar levels is probably better in the long term. I enjoy eating sweet things esp. chocolate and always take excessively so you can imagine what risk I am facing Thanks for the lead towards finding the plant and cultivating it. I will go to Kg Senang and try my luck.

Another plant which is known to provide miracle cure is the Prunella Vulgaris. Have a read on internet and see if you have ever come across it.
(Live long and Prosper – I recognized this one – not going to mention here)
    Best regards
    HC

  13. Hi Hou Chong,

If you must eat chocolates, try sticking to the dark variety as the sugar content is lower and you get the maximum benefits of a very good compound (forgot name) with a higher density of cocoa in it. And if you were to get into drinking red wine together with eating dark chocolates, you may outlive us all. The French swear by that combination and research have shown it to be true. So you can actually live a little haha!

If you find cultivating this plant is too bothersome, a good alternative is to consume Cinnamon which is what we are doing now that our not very green fingers gave up on growing anything. Apart from lowering sugar levels, Cinnamon is also good for stiff joints, aches and digestive aspects. You can find it in capsule form at GNC and strangely nowhere else given that it is such a common spice.

I gave a combination of Cinnamon and Chromium to my Dad (became diabetic due to excessive weight gain) who would initially shuffle very slowly for about 10 paces or so. A few weeks later, everyone noticed that his mood has lifted as he was constantly cheery and could easily shuffle along 15 metres at a go rather speedily. Now he no longer has problems bending his knees to enter a car as he previously did.

Just going on that combination, the checkups showed that he has maintained his sugar levels without any other medication for his condition makes for a pretty good testimony.

You might want to check out on all kinds of healing methods and healthy foodstuffs at the Holistic Fair that is on today and tomorrow at the top of Fort Canning Hill. Bring sufficient money if you are interested as the ATM is a long way down the hill at the shopping centre.

    (((Namaste)))

    Mad

  14. Hi Madeline #14
The compound found in dark chocolate is epicatechin and it originates from Cocoa. I understand that red wine is known to be beneficial to the health of our heart owing to the high content of antioxidant in it. Cinnamon and the combination of Cinnamon and Chromium sound like wonderful natural remedies. I will do some reading about them.
    Thank you for sharing.
    Cheers

  15. Hi All,

My pharmacist sister loves to sprinkle some tumeric powder on her food that she prepared for her family. It has many benefits to our health e.g. fights the bacteria that causes diarrhoea,it is an antioxidant, strengthen our bones, fight Alzheimer’s diseases, reduce pigmentation, prevent cancer, help treatment in inflammatory skin conditions and many other benefits. (You may want to read up in the website for more informations).

Many of us are aware of the numerous benefits of this deep, exotic yellow spice, few incorporate turmeric in our daily use,it has been used by the Indians more than 2000 yrs ago till today.

Turmeric is one of nature’s most powerful healers. The active ingredient in turmeric is curcumin.Long known for its anti-inflammatory properties, recent research has revealed that turmeric is a natural wonder, proving beneficial in the treatment of many different health conditions from cancer to Alzheimer’s disease.

Turmeric can be taken in powder or pill form. It is available in pill form in most health food stores, usually in 250-500mg capsules.

My favorite way to use it is to add a pinch of it to my fried rice, egg salad or soup. It adds a nice flavor and gives my food a rich yellow hue and I like the fragrants from it.

Turmeric should not be used by people with gallstones or bile obstruction. Though turmeric is often used by pregnant women, it is important to consult with a doctor before doing so as turmeric can be a uterine stimulant.

Hope this information is useful for some of us.

    Happy reading!

  16. With regards to the above post, I would like to add that due to consumption of Tumeric, Indians have the lowest rate of the Alzheimer’s disease in the world.

I was wondering around at Mustapha’s just now but forgot to get some fresh Tumeric for this health purpose. This place has the best looking ones with good value too. You can grate about a teaspoon of the fresh Tumeric and consume it with some honey daily as advised by Bernard Harrison ex-wife (forgot name) who was on the telly some time back on natural health and healing aspects.

Tumeric in capsule form selling at GNC costs over $70 which is quite ridiculous a price to be paying for something that is so common and so cheap locally. The Himalayan brand at Mustapha’s is around $28 and lower in dosage such that you have to take 6 pills instead on one from GNC which is why I recommend the fresh form if you can take to the taste. I personally have not tried it, but if it is good for me and with honey added, I think it will be palatable enough.

    (((To a good, healthy mind)))
    Mad

  17. Hi Madeline, she’s Nazli Anwari.

After my massage, I’m always given a small cup of warm tumeric and tamarind drink which I have always found most refreshing. One can buy sachets of this mix in a jamu shop.

But I suppose nothings better than the real fresh rhizome.
My mum used to tell me she had to drink a concoction of fresh tumeric juice and honey when she was young and how awful it was. Perhaps I should try it someday for its health benefits.

  18. Hi Daisy,

Thanks for the name info. This also reminds me to go out and get some fresh Tumeric to try out with honey soon.

Any Jamu shop you can recommend as I do not know any. I would love to try that Tumeric and Tamarind combination. I wonder if Little India has this stuff as it is rather near my home. Is it just simply those 2 ingredients, if so I can concoct my own. Tamarind has been known to break down fats but cannot be consumed too frequently due to its acidity.

Re : How to remove colour stains completely from white shirt. Up to date, the stains cannot be removed away 100%
even though I used the colour bleach that is sold commercially.

If you are able, pls share with us. Thanks.

  22. Hi Terence S / Admin @ 21 ,

The above comment is NOT an advertisement BUT for those SHcians who MAY want to benefit for air travel to
K.L.( Subang Budget Airport Terminal )in K.L. and
NOT KLIA 2 way trips for the price of 1. Good deal.

Even much cheaper than the bus coach on line for 2 way trips.

  23. Hi Steven #23
For removing stains on white shirts, try applying those chemical sold in 50ml or 75ml bottles, under the brand name stain devil, dylon fabric care etc. With repeated application, the stain should go, no matter how stubborn.
However, you may have difficulty once the shirt has been ironed.
For those stained shirts which posed a mental challenge and it is ruining your sleep bec nothing works, often the best solution is to buy a new shirt..haha.
    HC

  24. Hi Daisy #20

Thanks for the info. I have tried grating 1 teaspoon of Tumeric with a squeeze of honey onto a porcelain spoon and gulped it down with water. The Tumeric may be gingery in taste but milder and the honey masked it substantially with the water. Quite a breeze to consume it.

    Cheerio,
    Mad

  25. Hi Steven

I recently stained my white blouse with chilly sauce. Immediately after I arrived home, I sprayed affected areas (clumsy, clumsy!) with Kiwi Stain remover, left it for a while, wet areas, then spot cleaned with dynamo and hippee it’s all gone now!

You might like to try spot cleaning with dynamo first and watch if the stain goes away.

Dynamo seems to be pretty good for white fabrics and I noticed even soaking for a while seems to have a brightening effect.

Still, it depends on the type of stain and how fast you treat it.

Good Luck or as suggested by Hou Chong, go buy a new shirt! Ha ha ha….

    Have a nice day!

  26. Good morning Madeline

Just a reminder to have your dose of tumeric and honey this morning! Nothing beats the ways of the good old days I guess.

    Shall try it someday.

Got to get ready to work now.

You have a nice day too!

  27. “Hi Steven, I recently stained my white blouse………I sprayed affected areas……with Kiwi Stain remover….and hippee it’s all gone now! You might like to try…..”

Does it not appear that Steven-C has started wearing blouses and maybe miniskirts for Xmas? With wolf howls egging him on, a Steven in bikinis for SHC’s cabaret will be every bizman and mamasan’s delight………..and my hot no. 1 for the nite.

  30. Tip worth sharing – Why there is no need to SHOUT!

One day, a professor asked his students ‘Why do we SHOUT instead of speak when we are ANGRY?’

All the students thought for a while. One answered ‘Because we lost our cool. That’s why we SHOUT.’

Asked the professor again, ‘But the person is just right next to you, why can’t we talk softly but have to SHOUT?’

Everyone gave their opinions but none was accepted by the professor

Finally, the professor explained ‘When we are ANGRY, our hearts drift apart. To mask the DISTANCE we are feeling, we instinctively SHOUT instead of speak so the other party can hear us.’

‘But as we SHOUT, we get ANGRIER. And we are drifting further apart. So we SHOUT even louder…’

‘It is the opposite when we are in love. Not only we do not shout, we whisper into each other’s ears. Why?’

‘This is because our hearts are very close, almost never apart. As our love deepens, we reach a state of communication where there is no need for words.’

‘We understand each other well enough just by exchanging looks,’ concluded the professor.

‘Therefore, when we are arguing, DO NOT speak words that will make our hearts drift apart. WAIT a few days. When you feel your hearts are no longer far apart, pick up the conversation and continue from there.’

  31. Hi James Tan
Re: your comment #32 under “SHC Diabetes Group”
Terence and Oi Cheng have very generously given me a Gymnema Sylvestre plant each (also see my comment #10 above about the GS plant). Both the plants are doing very well to date and I will do my best to propagate many more from these. I have taken note of your interest, thank you.

While on the topic of herbal remedies, may I recommend you to look at this youtube site “grow your own drugs”. Pls follow this link:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOPblKsqH-o
In the series, the ethnobotanist will show how herbs, fruits and berries can be put towards a variety of uses, from beauty treatment to providing natural remedies for ailments eg. constipation, common colds etc.
    Enjoy.

  32. Life-saving tip on Aspirin usage. Posted with thanks to Mary Chan….It may save someone’s life some day!

1.If you take an aspirin or a baby aspirin once a day, take it at Night. The reason: aspirin has a 24-hour “half-life”. Therefore, if most
Heart attacks happen in the wee hours of the morning, the aspirin would be
    Strongest in your system..

FYI, aspirin lasts a really long time in your medicine chest. Years.
(when it gets old, it smells like vinegar.)

    Please read on.

    WHY ASPIRIN BY YOUR BED
    Save lives ….

It is important to always have ASPIRIN in the home!!!

Why have Aspirin by your bedside ?

    ABOUT HEART ATTACKS

There are other symptoms of an heart attack besides the pain on the left
    Arm.

One must also be aware of an intense pain on the chin, as well as nausea and
    Lots of sweating,
However these symptoms may also occur less frequently.

NOTE : There may be no pain in the chest during an heart attack.

The majority of people (about 60%) who had a heart attack during their
Sleep, did not wake up. However, if it occurs, the chest pain may wake you
    Up from your deep sleep.

If that happens, IMMEDIATELY DISSOLVE TWO ASPIRINS IN YOUR MOUTH and
Swallow them with a bit of water.

Afterwards, phone a neighbor or a family member who lives very close by and
    State “HEART ATTACK!!!”
And that you have taken 2 ASPIRINS

Take a seat on a chair or sofa and wait for their arrival and ….

    DO NOT LIE DOWN !!!

Why you need to have a couple of Aspirin by your side at all times …

  33. I cannot resist telling this story. Last night, I heard the story of a young man who has difficulties making breakfast in the morning. So, he went to a supermarket.

He went to the frozen food section and picked up a packet of frozen char siew pows. He then asked the sales girl how to cook the frozen pows, as he does not cook. The sales girl replied “Simply boil water and throw in the frozen charsiew pows, from the pack”.

This young man followed the instruction, boiled the water the next morning and threw in the charsiew pows.

I think his wife or girlfriend must have given him a good scolding. Do you have tips or tricks?

  34. Re #35
The herb plants given to me and which I thought was the Gymnema Sylvestre, has now fully grown and identified as the Gynura Procumbens. It is commonly known as Scrambling Gynura and locally called Akar Sebiak, kelemai merah.

For those of you who are taking the leaves or other parts of this herb for its medicinal properties, I recommend that you do some research on it. Meantime, I leave you with this you tube clip :
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZVuKRVlHbY

I shall re-commence looking for the elusive Gymnema Sylvestre and also the Prunella Vulgaris plant.

  35. Some of you may have received White Roses and you may have preferred that they were of another colour. Well, here is something which you can do. Put the rose stalk in a vase which is filled with coloured dye. Place the vase somewhere reasonably bright (like by the window but not in the open sun) and presto, the colour of the dye will soon appear on the petals of the white rose.

  36. Hi Hou Chong #38,

Have you heard of another Gynostemma…….Gynostemma Pentaphyllum…also known as “Jiaogulan”, supposedly dubbed
    China’s ‘immortality’ herb!

Google it to discover what it can do. The herb teabags can be bought locally from chinese medical shops.

    Best of health,
    Jonathan

  37. Hi Jonathan,
Happy lunar new year to you

Thanks for the tip. I did some homework on Gynostemma Pentaphyllum since and am impressed with the many usefulness of this herb/tea.
Will certainly go out to get the teabags soon.
    Best regards

  38. Hi all,

    Just to share,

For those who have not been to the flyer, it is best to alight the flyer’s cabin at 7.15 PM, when the sun is setting down . You can have a day view as the flyer’s cabin moves slowly and steadily upwards. Once right at the top, the night scene takes over. You can see the beautiful Spore skyline with the Sands casino , MICE resort in the vicinity and the DNA bridge.

After comparing the two scenes, the night scene with thousands of lights switched on was more beautiful than the day scene which has too much details and that you “feel” the great congestion in our concrete jungle. :(

  39. Hi StevenC @#42,

In your haste or enthusiasm, you wrote ‘to alight…at 7.15pm” instead of “to board…at 7.15pm”. Ayayaya, my kepala pusing for 3 secs!……………..just joking.

  42. Just to share this simple tip I received via email…

Anti-Mosquito Repellent – Use Listerine mouthwash!

    Process…
Place contents of Listerine bottle into a spray bottle.
Spray yourself, your deck and your yard.
Use the spray inside a dog house or on the dog’s bedding.
Use the Original Listerine Antiseptic Mouthwash only, the yellow one, for the best mosquito fighting power.

    Reason…
Listerine contains the ingredients thymol, eucalyptol and menthol. These ingredients are derived from natural plants believed to repel mosquitoes. It also repels flies, ants & other insects.

Hope it will be useful for all the Walkers, Ramblers, Cyclists, Outdoor Lovers, those going overseas etc.

  44. Hi All esp. those travelling overseas,
Just to share a simple idea.
If you have to drive for hours in a direction where the sun is beating onto your face, you can provide a shed for the lower half of your face by half-folding a used envelope and stuck it in-between (beneath) the base your sunglasses and (over) your nose. As for the upper half of your face, just put on a Cap and a pair of sunglasses like you normally would.
