  1. Lily…

I have a Christmas D & D at the Kovan CC, but am not sure if I want to join them because their event are mostly Karaoke singing & less dancing which I don’t prefer. Most likely I will join you all but let me excuse myself from the CC first and transfer $$$ to Dolly. :)

    Ah Nee

  2. Hi Friends

Nice to have you sign up so quickly. Great supporters. Too bad Sockie can’t make it.

TC has a new band which is quite good. We were there last Fri and Terence decided on the spot to book the place. We hope to “pau” but is still under negotiation.

Whether we succeed in “pau-ing” the whole place or not, if we have a big enough group there, we will more or less have the dance floor level to ourself. Those who have been there with us before, should know.

For those who have not been to TC, this would be a good opportunity. Other times, you will need member to sign you in. So, hope to see you sign up soon.

  5. Hi Ah Nee @ 4,

…I have a Christmas D & D at the Kovan CC, but am not sure if I want to join them because their event are mostly Karaoke singing & less dancing which I don’t prefer.

OK. NO problem. You can sell me your ticket as I prefer to listen to KOK singing and chit chatting with SHCians . As for payment I can
e transfer to your account and you can easily pass your ticket to Rene at Bra cafe as you worked nearby. ok ? Pls. reply. TQ.

  6. 2010 has been quite a fun year for the SilverHairsClub. To round up the year, I see Lily and Dolly have decided to start and organise a SHC Christmas party on the 18th Dec.

I am quite confident we will not messed up our website banner, as we have tried a few times, and it seems to work well. So, I shall start first, and I hope you will take the opportunity to dedicate a song, available from Youtube, from you to another person. Let me know the song, and I shall try to have it up on the banner asap. One member one song, and one receipient one song. So, this song from me to Catherine Ho. REmember those days when we call up our favourite radio station to dedicate a song?

We will continue this service until 25 Dec 2010. Have fun.

    Terence Seah

  7. Aiyo….Steven Chan, I am talking about Christmas Party on 18 Dec, not 31 Dec Countdown Party. hahaha…..you also blur blur like sotong leh, why not you join the 1st SHC Christmas Party at Temasek Club on 18 Dec organised by Lily / Dolly.

    Ah Nee

  8. Hi Lily,

Here the dedication “You say it best when you say nothing at all” from you to that someone special. May that someone special listen in. Enjoy.

    Terence Seah

  9. Wow! beautiful song! But i prefer the Westlife version or a male voice singing it.

    Terence,
can i have Sukiyaki (Japanese version)? And i dedicate this
unforgettable song to all baby boomers. :)

  10. Hi Terence,

wow.. a song dedication. what a novel idea! You’re now a professional DJ.

I would like to dedicate this song specially to you, and to all my good frenz in SHC (u know who you are).

My choice of song is “TO ALL THE GIRLS I’VE LOVED BEFORE” a duet by Willie Nelson & Julio Iglesias.

    Cheers, Lydia.

  11. Hi Jassmine #18,

I am sure all of us are happy to receive your dedication. Sukiyaki is a great song. Most of us are +/- 55 and I remember this song as a world hit sung during our childhood. A beautiful song to all Baby Boomers by Jassmine Teo, SHC’s most prominent poet.

    Terence Seah

  12. IT’S SUKIYAKI!
    It has come so quickly!
    My fatigue vanishes immediately!
And Terence gets full marks for efficiency! :)

Now, Terence, you are in a mini poem. lol!

  13. For those who do not know Lydia Chin, you may like to know she has a vibrant character, always keen to participate in singing, dancing and “getting to know more people” events. She recently organised a gathering for SHCians living in the East.

    Hi Lydia #20,
Here’s your dedication to all your good frenz in SHC. The song “TO ALL THE GIRLS I’VE LOVED BEFORE” a duet by Willie Nelson & Julio Iglesias.

I am wondering why you have chosen this song. Are all your friends BOYS? No gals, eh?

    Terence Seah

  14. Yo, “DJ” Terence

Here’s a request I like to post it to you to help find… (^_^)

There was a group called the “Cascade” and so far, I know they have sung only 12 songs before they “disappeared” or “disbanded” – not sure what happened then as it was before my time.. (>o<)

I love all of their songs and the one played most (I heard from my sisters) was “Rhythm of the Rain”… (^_~)

So if you could find ANY of their songs, I like to dedicate it to all SHCians… **(^_^)**

  15. Hi StevenN #28,

?? is a love song. I call these type of songs campus music. They bring back good memories of the days in Pre-Universities and Universities. This was when we began to think we were falling in love. Nothing else matters, except between two loving dovebirds.

And Hi, to those who are still romantic at heart,
I like to share with you an observation on the dedications that come in. It strikes me, so I must share with you. I remembered when I first fell in love in school, I called a radio station and requested for a song dedication to all the guys and gals in one particular class. Actually, in my heart, I just wanted to dedicate the song to one particular girl, but because I was shy, timid and not wanting to offend other schoolmates, I dedicated the song to the whole class. My objective was not met.

After 35-40 years, it appears that we are all still the same. Shy. The song dedications at SHC are to all the boys and gals in town. How about dedicating a song to just one person?

    Terence Seah

  16. Hi Terence,

I want to share and dedicate this song to all fella SHCians entitle ‘My Way’ by Elvis Presley.

This website with all the popular song compilation is found on youtube at ‘http://www.lyricstube.net/’ with courtesy of Daniel Chan.

I am not sure how to select the particular song?

    Dan

  17. Hi terence,

Thanks for the lovely introduction. I hope to have your presence, the next time I have an east zone gathering at my place.

To satisfy your curiosity …. The song “To all the girls I’ve loved before” brings back fond memories for me… and yes, I’ve some very good frenz in SHC.. girls inclusive. And for the girls, they are the reason this song was composed ..! I hope everyone listening in right now, will enjoy, and reminise your past lover/s!

    Cheers!

  18. Hi Terence

Thanks for giving us a chance to make a dedication.

I would love to have “Those Magic Changes” by Johnny Contardo of Sha Na Na played for someone special whom I call Baby :) He knows who I am talking about. It is also for friends who love the sixties and seventies music.

This song brings back the good old days of the sixties and seventies. The courtship days, falling in love….

    Carly

  19. Hi Lily!

I’d jux transferred $20 to yr a/c this evening.
    Reg: 2898

Yeh! Pack up my work station until ….Blur… blur…

    30 yrs of collection! Finally…….

    Tku!

  20. Terence

I also want to dedicate a song. It is to the elusive virgin/s in SHC.

Whoever you are, you never walk alone but that is not the song for you. I am requesting for ‘Man Smart Women Smarter’ by Harry Belafonte. Hope you end up better than all of us.

  26. Hi Dolly, Lily #42,

It’s end of the year, so it must be very busy everywhere in Singapore. I wont be able to join you, but I hope more will join you, even those the place cannot be exclusive. The place is still fun, and has the year-end festivities mood. Have fun.

    Terence Seah

  27. Hi Dolly

  30. To all SHCians,

This lau yah DJ cannot cope with the song dedications. But, here it comes. By the Cascades, “Rythmn of the falling rain”. Dedicated to all SHCians… **(^_^)**

    Pauline Ho.

  31. Hi Dolly,

Just my 2 cts worth but I think it would be better to keep to the $20/entry charge and either, (i) buy another round of drinks, since it’s a long party, (ii) buy some goodies, door gifts, lucky draw etc with the extra, since its Christmas or (iii) ask TC mgmt to provide some door gifts, lucky draws in return for a higher entry charge.

Considering you got the place so close to Christmas, you are extremely fortunate to get the booking. Like what some may say, ‘pee kah mai pee eh”. Lidiat how to get?

Wishing all a Merry Christmas in advance.

  32. Hi Lily!

No prob for me. As a matter of fact all the better for me because I needn’t rush there after my church service from
    AMK.

Does it mean we come after dinner?

  33. Hi Catherine, Gabriella & others
Thanks for your support. Yes, do come after dinner please. Though we do not have exclusivity of the whole place, we do have the whole lower level (dance floor level) to our group.

    Hi Charles
Thanks for your suggestion. You are indeed generous, but Dolly and I want to keep the budget as low as possible so more people can come and join in the fun. Yes, the night is long and $10 is inclusive of free-flow of soft drinks (coke/7-up) & draft beer so our members can drink to their hearts’ content. Any short-fall will be borne by me, and that is why we now cap it at 40 pax max. Dolly is also looking at the possibility of including novelty door gift. She will revert by early next week.

    Hi Ivan
Dress code for guys : chin chye lah. The girls are the eye candies – not the guys lor ….. haha. But the club do have their own dress code for guys. No collarless T-shirt, shorts/bermudas or sandals.

As for BYOB, will have to check with the club if this is allow and any corkage charge. Will let you know in due course.

    Hi Eileen
Hmmm…… you are bringing 2 guys. Very good….. Yes! we need more guys.

    Calling for Santarinas!!
We have a volunteer for Santa Claus. Now we need some sexy santarinas. Sexy does not mean hour-glass shape but fun and spontaneous ladies hor.

BTW, since I do not have a minimum quota to meet, we will close this post in a week’s time or when we hit 40 pax which ever comes first. Those haven’t paid up by then, very sorry we will see you next year.

    Thanks for your understanding.

  34. EO Lily #52,

  38. Hi Richard #57,

  55. Hi Ivan and other participants

TC management replied on the corkage charge :

Liquor corkage charge @ $50++ per bottle. (NO DFS bottle allowed). Total Max 2 bottles to bring in per member.

It’s their way of discouraging guest to bring their own bottle. Sorry :(

We now have 2 Santarinas to help out at the party, hoping to rope in one more. Guess who are these ladies and who will be the Santa Claus?

  56. Huh? I dun have a Richard Lim on my list leh. The only 2 Richards I have are Richard Wong and Richard Kee. And the 2 Lims I have are Judy Lim & Ivan Lim. Sure you got the rite post anot?

Thanks to Ivan who contributed the chicken wings and to my buddy Dolly, who contributed the party hats and the games.

Hope to see you all again at another event.
    Till we meet again, adios.

    Lily

  59. Congras to Lily, Dolly and other helpers for organising and making this 1st SHC Christmas Party, a successful one. The band was fabulous and the atmosphere was good. Members responded with vibrant non stop dancing till the early morning. I counted only 4 guys and 1 lady not on the dancing floor at one stage (more ladies than men this time, I think). A good start to a 1st Christmas Party for SHC. I enjoyed myself – many thanks.
    HC

  60. Lily, u r welcome la. Thks, HC for the compliments. Doe d party hv some hiccups but glad dat it had turned up fine. The self ‘tikam-tikam’ draw was not successful :( but, I am definitely not going to give up trying, will try 2 improvise further n hopefully next tx, I m successful lor, let ur fingers x, hor…

  63. Dolly#97,

Just read your post ….. MMmmmm, perhaps for gift Xchange, you should follow Frisna Tan’s #37 Rules at her postings in DEC 2010 MONTHLY GATHERING cum XMAS CELEBRATION, hahahaha!

Anyway, just laugh it off if you got short-changed by the gift-xchange …….. no point getting pissed or agitated ….. it only increases the “enjoyment” of THAT giver when reading #97. Now, Y do u even want 2 bestow tat PRIVILEGE 2 THAT giver? Hope u c my philoso-physco-concept ….. hahahahahahaa.

  64. Hi EO Lily & Dolly

    Karen

  65. Dear EOs Lily & Dolly,

Thank you for having planned an excellent X’mas Party for all of us @ TC last nite. With a Live Band playing a repertoire of 70s & 80s oldies, we really ‘rocked’ the whole dancefloor with everyone in their merriest mood!

Dolly ~ all newbies & existing members were so spontaneous and with their warm exchange of handshakes that led to a quick dance, that helps to alleviate the task of a Santarina….Kam Siah!

Ivan ~ Thanks for the chicken wings that gave me the extra energy with my non-stop dancing!

Sam & Richard W ~ The 2 Santas from ‘Asia’ in shimmering red suits too added some hilarity to the evening but these Santas are well trimmed without that ‘pot belly!…haha

All in all, its a great festive party organised. Lets all relax on a sunny Sunday!

    Cheers,

  67. Dear EO Lily/Dolly,

Thank you both of you for your effort organizing the wonderful & enjoyable 1st X’mas party in Temasek club last night. I enjoyed myself & strongly agreed with the comment from Hou Chong (#96) that it was a successful event, and that everyone enjoyed the night especially with the dance & music.

Personally I feel that gift exchange is not about the monetary value of the gift but it’s the thought that counts. Both EO stated clearly that the value of the gift should not be below $10/= & I like their idea as this would allow all enjoy the moment when they opened their presents. I think as a participant we should all respect their idea & follow the rule. We should not bring any unwanted item o r”recycle gift” as a present. As mature adults, we should consider that the person receiving these gifts may be disappointed when they opened their presents, instead of pleasant surprise intended for the gift exchange program. Hmm, maybe we can consider to include our names in the gift exchange next time. Haha.

Ivan, I would like to thank you for your offer of the last piece of chicken wing to fill my hunger till end of the event before we go for our supper.

Lastly, I wish all members the best of this festival season & good in health, prosperity and happiness in year 2011.

    Cheers ^_^

    Judy Lim

  68. Dolly, Lily, all helpers/organizers, a big thank you for
organising 1st SHC X’mas Dance event at Temasek.

It was indeed a very novel and enjoyable evening that will
set a standard for all future Xmas party to emulate.

My heartfelt apology to those who did not get the ‘right’
gifts. Incidentally, I have some extra presents that I got
from the last few days of partying to give away. If any1
would like, I can give them away. Rest assure these are
not unwanted ‘free’ gifts. Do write to me at jamestancl@gmail.com
    for details.

    Have a very Merry Christmas!

    james n susan tan

  69. James

Your comment #106 – it is the thrill of opening a gift .. u understand that feeling.

Why are u offering your “xtra present” to those who are not happy with the gift exchange. A simple $10 gift – anyone in SHC can afford to buy at anytime.

What everyone is trying to say is – be sincere about this gift exchange and not just bring any “white elephant” from home…

Maybe if your “xtra Gift” is a diamond Ring or a Rolex – please do offer in the SHC web ..

I am shocked to hear that someone got the “note-pad” that we have from the PJ DND … that packaging already turn yellowish and I was shocked that the person can bring it for gift exchange..

If everyone expecting a $10 gift from the other , they also have to fork out a “nice” $10 gift from their pocket.

No offence to those who attended this party … it was a very successful event and all of us enjoyed the night very much.

Thanks again to Lily & Dolly for all the hard work.

    Karen

  70. Hi Lily and Dolly,

It was a successful 1st SHC Christmas Party and all of us have a jolly good times. For $10 we got free flow of beer and soft drinks, where to find and it held in a private club with a live band.

Much have been said about the gift exchange which I feels that some of us regard it as ‘lucky dip’! The season of Christmas is about giving, unconditional giving. it is the thought and intent of the heart. We should not feel short-changed as it defeat the purpose of givings!

    Dan

  71. #106,

I know there are a lot of rich ppl in SHC so a $10 gift is
    definitely nothing to them.

Neither am I here to belittle anyone by offering a Xmas
gift f.o.c; just my sincere wish to make someone a little
happier an smile a bit more.

Otherwise, these gifts would be given to my nieces/nephews
    or some neighbour’s kids.

However, if this gesture is not appreciated, it’s ok.
    Issue closed.

  72. hi Lily and Dolly,
Though I am a busy bee, I make it to such a fantastic and enjoyable X’mas get together . My congratulations to both of you in organising and patiently working out the events smoothly . Again , thanks for a great nite . Jeff and Irene ! I will definitely find time for future such activities . God bless .

  73. Dear James,

Not sure why must you feel heartfelt & apologise to those who are not getting the right gift. I have mentioned in my earlier post (#105) that ” A GIFT IS NOT ABOUT THE MONETARY” I feel that it should be given with sincerity from our heart. Since you have extra gifts to give away, can I suggest that you donate it to charity & share the joy of the festival season with those who need it instead of asking member to email you for your gift.
BTW, I would like to share with you that even though I am not the one who receive this gift. I do understand the disappointment when the member opeen their gift and found the content.

Thank you for your kind understanding.

    Judy.

  74. HI..I was not at the party so proabably I am in no position to comment. But I wish to say something about this gift exchange event. Probably some participants wanted to inject some humour by putting in a “valueless” item.

The fun is to see the reaction on the recipient’s face when he or she opens it. The response could be (1)Lift it high and laugh it off, (2)Keep quiet and just accept it or (3)Feel short-changed and dump it at the nearest bin. In any case, what is it that we don’t already have that we want as a gift? On the part of the giver, it is always TOUGH deciding what to buy for a gift. And as far as gift-giving is concerned, the people who are really having a Merry Christmas are those selling gifts at shopping malls, because their cash registers are ringing Jingle Bell non stop.

James is offering his gifts out of goodwill. While his apology may not be necessary, his intention of giving away what he does not want or need is sincere and noble.

My gift to all – Good Health, Good Heart and Good Humour everyday. Merry Christmas.

  75. Hi Lily and Dolly,

The 1st Christmas Party was a great success, well done.

Would like to wish all SHC members Merry Christmas and
happy Y2010 stay healthy and happy.

  76. Hi

I have some old underwear & socks from my sons ,it quite new as they wore it just once … anyone interested ???

I am offering these gifts out of my goodwill as well.If u are not interested …I will give it to my nieces/nephews or donate to the poor..

    karen

  77. Folks

Yes, Christmas is the season of giving. But the gift exchange programme was also meant to be a time for receiving too …. hence the word “Exchange”.

To have the spirit of giving and not to expect anything in return is indeed honourable …. that applies to “donation, contribution or sponsorship”.

To get rid of your junk in return for a surprise gift …. is far from any of the above.

Anyhow, as EOs, we have learned from this episode. Let’s close this chapter and move on from here.

Dolly and I will organise another party whereby everyone can officially bring their junk for exchange in a game setting. But beware, you might end up collecting more junks than you intend to get rid of. It is called the “White Elephant Game” guarantee to thrill and make everyone squeal with laughter.

We will do this well after the festive seasons are over. Stay tuned.

  78. So sad… Christmas being a religious occasion is also a festive for giving and sharing. Exchanging gifts, be it Christmas or otherwise, all it needs is a LITTLE thought for picking a decent gift for your friends and people you know.

From reading this thread, I understand the EOs had done a great job and participants had a wonderful time, so don’t let this incident mar the Christmas spirits. Not worthy harping on it lah ^:)^

  79. Thank you Lily and Dolly for organising this 1st SHC Christmas party. I would give it 100% passing marks. We really enjoy ourselves with the music, nice company and free flow of drinks. We must really thank Lily/Dolly for sponsoring the free flow of drinks as I understand the free flow is not from the Club but rather from the EOs pockets. This song below is dedicated to Lily and Dolly and all those who help in staging this very successful event. Merry Christmas and Happy New year to all SHCians.. http://www.lyricstube.net/video.php?artistid=3275&id=108572&artist=Christmas%20Songs&title=All%20I%20Want%20For%20Christmas%20Is%20You
